The Season
The Contract
I stared up at the rafters in awe. It looked so much bigger from the inside of the glass, then from up in the stands. I glanced over all of the names on the banners and jerseys, and I knew that I was right at home. I breathed out a sigh.
"Wow!"
"It is quite the building huh?"
My soon to be coach Claude Julien said from somewhere beside me.
I was amazed to find that in just a few days, the smooth stone under my Nikes, would be a glassy ice rink, and I would be wearing skates, not running shoes, as I moved across the playing surface.
"Are you just about ready to sign a contract?"
Claude's voice broke my train of thought.
"I sure am!"
I replied exitedly.
**********
It was about 4 PM before I was close to getting home. As I drove the remaining 5 kilometers to my house, I thought about my experience at TD Garden. I couldn't wait to play with some of the best hockey players in the world! And if I was getting paid to do it, then that would be an added bonus! Too good to be true!
I had signed a 1 year contract for $900,000 and I couldn't wait for my tour of the building the next day.
I slowly pulled my truck into my driveway, and opened my door. I almost collapsed before I made it onto my front steps. I inserted the key into the lock, and I heard a soft click as the door unlocked. I stumbled through the door, and ran all the way to the back of my house. I pushed aside my clean clothes pile, and fell onto the bed. I was asleep before my head hit the pillow.
