BoardingHouse

Jonathan couldn't feel his hands anymore, and Leah was slowly but surely loosing feeling in her toes, but it didn't matter to either of them. They had been deep in conversation on a park bench since they had left the little bar. Jonathan almost felt like he had known Leah for years, it had only been two hours.

"So you were born and raised in Chicago?" Leah nodded her head, Jonathan continued, "But your favorite hockey team is the Kings?" Leah closed her eyes and smiled, nodding her head again. Jonathan took in the sight. Her eyelashes were long, and dark. Her dirty blonde hair wasn't her natural color, but Jonathan liked it, much more than the platinum blonde hair most puck bunnies had. He could tell that light freckles danced across her face, and her eyes were a beautiful green, a green Jonathan would never get bored of.

Leah laughed, "I know I'm a horrible fan, but I've always loved Los Angeles and I went to a game once and it was just-- I don't even know how to explain it, it was--"

"Magical," Jonathan finished for Leah, knowing exactly how she felt, since he had felt that way when he first touched Blackhawks ice as part of the team. Leah once again nodded her head, not quite understanding how someone she had met only two hours ago could understand her more than most of the people she'd known her whole life.

Leah looked down at her watch, hoping that Jonathan would offer to walk her home. He did.

Jonathan looked down at Leah as they were walking to her house, it was close by and in all honesty he didn't want to leave her, not just yet. He had asked every question any guy would normally asked, like where she lived, where she went to college, how many people were in her family and with every question Jonathan just got more and more intrigued. He had run out of questions. Except one.

"Have you ever been to a Blackhawks game?"

Leah looked towards Jonathan, he was staring ahead, but looked down when her eyes met his cheek. She chuckled, "Now what kind of person would I be if I was born and raised in Chicago and have never gone to a Blackhawks game?"

Jonathan looked back ahead, "Let me rephrase the question, have you ever gone to a Blackhawks game knowing one of the players?" Leah bit her lip.

"No." Leah smiled, Jonathan followed suit. Leah pulled up to the stairs that led to her little
brownstone house that she apparently shared with some friends. Jonathan had almost hoped that the walk had been a little longer.

Leah bit her lip. Jonathan spoke, "You can pick your tickets up at will call for our seven o'clock game tomorrow night, eh?"

Leah faltered, opening her mouth then shutting it, not quite knowing if she should reply or just smile. Jonathan smirked before turning around, starting to walk home. Leah finally spoke, "Can I bring my boyfriend."

Jonathan, already knowing she didn't have a boyfriend, kept walking, "I'll already be there."

--------

Jonathan was sitting next to Kane on the plane, they had been playing some video game for most of the flight. Most of the guys had left the night before alone, other than Patrick and Patrick of course. The only two people who had known one hundred percent of his and Leah's story.

"Hey Jonathan you wanna come sit by me for a minute?" Patrick Sharp called from across the aisle, the aisle seat next to him empty. Jonathan put his phone down on his chair before walking across the aisle to the open seat. Jonathan looked around as he settled in, his teammates were either playing video games or sleeping. "Yesterday?"

Jonathan shook his head, 'What about yesterday?"

"You can't honestly tell me that seeing Leah didn't tear your heart apart?" Jonathan sucked in a breath, "Because it tore my heart apart."

Jonathan shrugged, "It hurt more to see the dress, if we're being honest."

Patrick looked towards his Captain, "You know Jonathan, I know that you turned off all your emotions when she left but seeing her yesterday wasn't just a coincidence. You have to be fucking with yourself to think that you guys are really over." Jonathan opened his mouth to speak, Patrick continued, "three years is a long time, but not when you never stopped loving her Jon."

Jonathan had heard enough, he stood up and looked towards his older teammate, "I don't believe in coincidences."

----------

Leah stood looking at the boarding pass in her hand, she had been debating on whether or not to go through with her plan. It was iffy, because there was a fifty-fifty chance that Leah saw Jonathan again. It had been about two weeks since the Blackhawks had played the Rangers in New York and Leah was still unsteady by her run in with the team. Of course she had already talked to Patrick Kane about coming into Chicago, he had promised her that no one would know she was there, and since she was only there for three days, she thought that maybe she would go by unscathed.

But when Leah walked into Patricks apartment, after using the boarding pass, and the two hour flight, she knew she was screwed. Every Blackhawks eye in the place turned towards the open door, nobody quite expecting Leah to be the one who just walked into Patricks place. Leah just stood in the doorway, wearing jeans and a sweater, riding boots up to the knee, she was still a catch to every guy in the place.

Patrick walked into the living room, some beers in hand, and immediately turned his attention towards what everybody was staring at. He almost dropped his beers, "Shit I completely forgot, oh fuck." Patrick put the beers on the living room table and rushed towards Leah. "I am so so sorry Leah, I thought you were coming in tomorrow."

Leah shook her head, searching the living room for the one body she was trying to ignore, he wasn't there. Leah let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding in, "It's fine Patrick, I promise." Leah turned towards the rest of the team, still staring wide eyed at her and smiled, "Hi guys, long time no see, sort of."

Patrick Sharp was the first to get up and walk towards Leah, going for a hug, "Leah what are you doing here?"

"I uh, um have a few meeting with some cosmetic businesses who have an interest in my shampoo and conditioner," the rest of the team walked over and gave Leah a celebratory/ I haven't seen you in three years, except two weeks ago for five seconds hug, and high five. Leah was about to speak again when there was a knock on the door.

Everybody froze.

"Patrick you fucker open up the door."

Leah sucked in a breath, and looked alert towards Patrick, he cursed under his breath. Leah could hear the twisting of the doorknob and got more and more anxious. Patrick Sharp and Corey Crawford quickly moved Leah towards the kitchen, where she would be blocked from Jonathan, while Patrick opened the door.

Jonathan walked through, "Since when do you lock your door?" Jonathan looked around the room and saw that most of his team was standing near the front door, like they were waiting for something, "I know you guys haven't seen me in a day, but can't you make it to the couch on your own?" Jonathan laughed while making his way towards the living room, the rest of the team exhaling loud breaths, following suit.

Corey and Patrick stood in the kitchen with Leah until they heard the opening of beer cans and the announcer for the Bulls game getting louder as the volume button was pushed. They looked back towards Leah, she smiled. "I'm gonna go see my city, just tell Patrick to text me when he leaves." Corey and Patrick nodded before forming around Leah, like bodyguards, to sneak her out of the kitchen and into entry hall.

She waved goodbye before closing the door behind her, exhaling an audible breath as she walked towards the elevators.

---------

Jonathan looked around the arena during warmups. Only the normal amount of fans had come for warmups, and Jonathan didn't expect Leah to come early, so he didn't bother to search the crowd. He skated over to where the Patricks' and Corey were stretching, staring into the crowd.

"What are you guys looking at?" Jonathan said, lifting his leg up onto the boards.

Corey snorted, "More like who."

Kane spit his mouthguard out, "A complete broad Tazer." Patrick pointed his glove towards a girl sitting in the stands with a friend. Jonathan looked towards the girls and immediately recognized the dirty blonde hair and light freckles. He smiled before lifting his glove up into the air and waving.

Leah was looking around the arena, it was near the end of warmups. She had been to a million different Blackhawks games, but this one felt different. Especially since she could feel some of Jonathan's teammates watching her.

"They're watching you," Kylie said. Leah laughed and nodded her head. She looked around the arena again, people watching and laughing along until Kylie spoke again, "Hey one of them is waving at you." Leah looked back towards the ice only to see Jonathan waving his glove in the air in her direction while his teammates looked on, flabbergasted.

Leah smiled before waving back at Jonathan, laughing as she saw the look on nearby faces, including her best friend.

At the same time both Patrick and Kylie said, "Who is that?"

Leah looked back towards the ice, "A friend."

Jonathan looked towards Leah, smiling to himself, "Someone you'll be seeing a lot of."
