Coach say what?

Madeline sat in her stall in the Boston College Women's Hockey locker room as coach talked about the upcoming weekly schedule. "The guys will be working out with you guys so please be respectful of them." Madeline rolled her eyes. Since Kevin Hayes her only friend on the team graduated last spring she had no friends on the guys team. She couldn't handle Thatcher and what he had said to her the other night. Did everyone in the hockey community really think that her and Aaron's relationship was a joke? Wasn't real? She couldn't even think about it. He made mistakes with Claudia, she made mistakes with Morgan but their relationship was real. It was hard but real. All she wanted to do was be in bed with Aaron. He always knew how to make her feel better when she was over thinking everything and everyone. "Mads, hello Madeline? Thomas? Number 91.... THOMAS." Madeline snapped out of her trance and concentrated on her coach talking in the middle of the locker room. "Coach York wants to see you in his office. Now." She looked at him like he had four heads. Why would the coach of the boys team want to see her in his office? One word. Demko. "Alright..." She slipped on her Bauer Shower Slides and walked out of the Women's locker room and next door to the Men's and opened the door. "Is Coach York in his office?" She said as she gave Thatcher stank eye. "Yeah he is Mads." Ryan Fitzgerald the sophomore who had exploded last year said as she closed the door and walked into the Arena and up the seats to where the Coach's offices sat over looking the arena, and the ice. She knocked on his door as he said to come in. "Coach Crowley said you wanted to see me?" He told her to sit down and she did what she was told.

"I've been watching you Thomas. You have soft hands, stamina like a horse. You're hockey IQ is one of the best i've ever seen. You know where the puck will be before it even gets there. You are just like your dad and brothers. Maybe even better then three combined. I want you on my team." She let out a laugh. She wanted to roll over and laugh for days. "Who put you up to this? My dad? OC? Craig? Rammer? My brothers? Hayes? Alright Kevin come out..." Jerry York looked at her like she was crazy. "What no? This is not a joke. I am serious. You are better then some NHL players. You could play in the NHL. That's the next step for you Madeline. And I think playing on my squad will get you there." She wanted to bolt out of that office faster then humanly possible. "There's NCAA Rules. It's not allowed. It's banned. Girls can not play on Men's teams. Sorry Coach. I am the Alternate Captain of the Women's Team. And that's what it will have to be. I am a not guy. I have to settle for the Olympics and hope I win a gold medal in 2018." She pressed the home button on her phone. Maybe a text could save her from this mess of a conversation. OHL coaches, WHL general managers, even NHL scouts have always gotten her hopes up. She was finally over not being able to play in the show. And now this clown was making it harder for her to swallow the information right now. "I can try to contact the NCAA. We can prove that you are too good to play for any Women's team. You have the talent of Crosby, you need to play with the big boys. We will figure out a way to get you on this team. You deserve this Madeline. You are the best of the best." He said she could leave and they would find a later time to discuss this.

The minute she left his office she zoned in for her dorm room, and her computer. So she could skype with Aaron. "Wow well I am stunned." He said coming into view. Shirtless. In Reebok shorts. His abs glistening from the pre training camp workouts. "Me too." He smirked at her. "Come play for the Panthers." She laughed. "Rangers, Blackhawks, or Leafs. My top three." Her dad played for all three at some point in his career and she was going to carry on the legacy. "Gotta go, Erik wants to hit the gym. I'll call you in an hour and we'll talk more about this 91. Love you." He left the conversation and she stared at her computer screen. She opened up her Messages and typed a text to Morgan. "We need to talk. Can you video chat?" She was about to open Pandora's Box. But she needed to talk to Morgan. She needed her best friend...Or her ex best friend in a moment like this. Morgs was comfy. She needed comfort. Her life could be upside down by tomorrow.
