Hurricane Jenny
001:
Chapter One
"Jenny! Get up, we have practice!" I heard pounding on my door and then sighed against my pillow.
"Go away," I muttered as the pounding on my door continued.
"Get your ass up, Jenny!"
"I'm up! Geez, I'm up!" I growled and then sat up and then crawled out of bed, "Freaking jerk thinks he can party all night and then expect me to be ready on time. I'm serious running on barely any sleep."
I walked out into the hallway and saw the cups all around the house. I sighed and shook my head and then walked towards the kitchen and living room and saw the mess, the alcohol everywhere, the place looked like a barn yard, smelled like it too.
"Jenn-"
"I'm up!" I growled from the kitchen because I heard my brother pounding on my bedroom door, "You do realize that mom and dad are coming up tomorrow, right?"
"What?" Jared asked as he walked into the kitchen only in a pair of shorts and his hair was a mess. I picked my hand up and threw it on the calendar, there it was, plain as day, big red letters with a thick circle around it, 'Mom & Dad', "Shit."
I heard footsteps coming down the hallway and looked passed my brother in the doorway to see a fake red head tip toeing down the hallway, throwing her clothes on and looked around, "So you kept a girl," my voice must have scared her, because she jumped and I thought she was gunna bring her claws out and hang herself upside on the ceiling, "My brother, you've picked another winner," I muttered, my words dripping with sarcasm as I walked passed my brother, patting his back and then walking passed the girl, heading towards my room to get ready for practice.
Growing up was hard, growing up was definitely hard because I watched as my older brothers grew up and left, following their dreams and joining the NHL. Jared and I were the only ones left that have yet to join the NHL, and I was afraid that we would never get our shot, or at least, I would never get my shot.
I graduated high school June 16, 2010, not long after that, I moved to North Carolina with my parents because Eric was living down there, after being drafted onto the Hurricanes in 2003. I was there for my brother when he and his team won the Stanley Cup and 2006, and then was there when he got married his longtime girlfriend, Tanya in 2007, and had his first child, Parker in 2009, and they're expecting their second son this December.
Marc had left in 2007, he became his NHL career after being drafted to the New York Rangers. It was an interesting move for him, because he wasn't use to the new territory, I always teased him because he would always call or text me telling me that he learned something new.
Jordan had left in 2006 because he was drafted to the Pittsburgh Penguins. It was harder when he left, compared to when Eric and Marc left, because I was always close to Jordan. My parents and I would go down to visit him and meet his team, I had fun and enjoy their company, mostly spending my time with Marc-Andre Fleury and Sidney Crosby, having them teach me something's. I was happy when they were impressed at how good of a goaltender I was. I was there when my brother got arrested during Eric's bachelor party in 2007, he and Eric spent the night in jail, and my parents had a cow, while Jared and I were completely loving it. I was there for my brother when he and his team won the Stanley Cup in 2009, I charged onto the ice and tackled him to the ground, showing my excitement for him.
I was definitely angry with Jared when he left me in 2008 to move down to San Antonio, Texas to join the AHL Rampage team. I mean I was happy that he got a shot, but, now all my brothers were gone and I felt alone.
My parents thought that if I really wanted to continue my hockey career past my high school team, then I was going to have to move to the United States with them. After being in North Carolina for two months, their predictions came true, Jared was traded to the Charlotte Checkers, and I was drafted onto that team as well, adding another Staal to the professional hockey community, but still my heart was set on becoming a part of the NHL community, the first female in the NHL community.
Jared and I bought a small house in Charlotte, moving out of Raleigh to make sure that we were close to our team. It was definitely some getting used to, it was hard to keep up with these guys, but once I got the hang of it, just like that family gathering, I might be small, but I was mighty, and I became a real asset to the team.
It's 2010, I'm eighteen, fresh out of high school, and I was prepared to go into the hockey community, and kick some serious ass.

"Nicely done, Staal!" Coach said and Jared and I both yelled 'thanks' and then looked at each other.
"Sorry sis, but he was talking to me," Jared said as he skated over towards me.
"Keep dreaming, Jared," I said as I stood up and grabbed my water bottle from the top of the net, "He was talking to me."
"Whatever," he said and then started to skate away and I smirked.
Once practice was over, Jared drove back to the house and I laughed as we walked through the front door. The mess was still there, everything was right where Jared had left it, including the smell. I shook my head and walked through our front room, being sure to watch where I stepped, "You have fun cleaning this up!"
"What?! Come on!" Jared yelled and I laughed and waved to him as I walked into my room and started to change.
My phone was going off and I looked down to see that my brother, Jordon was calling me. I smiled and picked the phone up and threw it to my ear, "How's my favorite brother doing?"
"What's up squirt?!"
"Why must you call me that still?" I whined and he laughed, "What do you want?"
"We play the Hurricanes next week, are you going to be at the game?" he asked and I perked up and walked over towards my door, because my schedule hung on the wall next to it.
"When?"
"Sunday," he said and I sighed.
"I have an afternoon game, what time is yours?" I asked.
"Ours is at noon, when's yours?"
"Five thirty," I said and I heard him chuckle, "What are you up to?"
"I wanna at least see your game, if you can't see mine," he said and I squealed and jumped up and down, "Calm down there, squirt."
I laughed and then felt my door hit my face and looked to see that Jared had stormed in, "Jared! You asshole! That was my face!"
"Sorry! Come out here and help me!"
"No! Your party! Your mess! Your problem!" I barked and he glared at me.
"Who are you on the phone with?"
"Jordon, now go away!" I ordered and then pushed him our and closed the door behind him, making sure that he locked it.
"Party?" Jordan asked as I placed the phone back to my ear.
"Yeah, he thought it would have been fun to have one last night and it finally died down this morning," I muttered, hearing Jordan chuckling, "Four hours before practice."
"Ouch," he said and I sighed.
"Tell me about it. So are you going to watch are game?"
"Yeah, who are you playing?"
"The Providence Bruins," I said and he laughed.
"You have this game in the bag, can't wait to see ya squirt!"
"Stop calling me that!" I whined, only hearing him laugh, and other people as well, "Am I on speaker?"
"Yeah!" he yelled and I heard all of the guys yelling 'hi'.
"Hi guys! Are you going to be at my game too?"
"Definitely!" they yelled and I laughed and laid on my bed, “So where are you guys ranked?”
“Um, I’m not too sure, why?”
“Because we’re ranked number three!” I said proudly and Jordan laughed, “If the other guy would just pick up the slack, we would be number one!”
“Oh, she’s definitely a Staal,” I heard one of the guys say and I smirked and looked over on the wall to see a picture of me with my four brothers.
“And don’t you forget it!” I laughed and rolled over onto my side. I heard something smash outside the door and then sighed, “Hey, I have to go, I think Jared broke something, I’m close to killing him.”
“So should I call later tonight to make sure he’s still alive?” Jordan asked and I scoffed.
“If you want, I though you wanted to have one less sibling,” I laughed and he snorted.
“You’re a dork.”
“I take after my big bro,” I laughed as I climbed out of bed and heard his teammates laugh, “Love ya, Jord, I’ll talk to you later.”
“All right, love you too, squirt.”
