Forever Chicago

Possibility

-1 year later-

“Sweetie are you sure you’re okay? Abby told me you were feeling really sick.” Jon asked over the phone. It was the Stanley Cup Finals and it was the Blackhawks against the Montreal Canadiens and they were in Montreal with a 3-0 series lead. “Yeah Abby had a stomach bug a few weeks ago and I think I caught it. I’m sure everything’s fine.” I said as I felt myself getting nauseous again. “Alright well I’ll call you tomorrow to let you know what time we’re getting in, okay?” “Yeah. Good luck tonight babe, I’ll be cheering you on.” I smiled as I thought about the Hawks closing out the season if they won tonight’s game. “Love you babe.” “Love you too Jon.” And then I hung up.

-That night-

“Yes, come on Jon! Come on!” I yelled as Jon raced down the ice with the puck. It was in overtime and Abby and I were freaking out. As he kept going we both stood up on the couch holding hands. “Come on babe!” I yelled as he took his shot. “YES! OH MY GOD THEY WON! THEY WON!” Was all I could yell as Abby and I jumped up on the couch. Abby and I would have been there with the boys but Abby was currently very pregnant and couldn’t make the trip and someone needed to stay with her, so I had volunteered. “Jon got the winning goal!” She yelled back as we continued to celebrate and did little happy dances. After about 5 more minutes of that Abby started to get back pain so she sat down and I went to make her a cup of tea. Once I started to boil the water, I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. I pulled it out to reveal Jon’s face lighting up the screen. “You won!” I yelled as I pressed the accept button on my IPhone. “I know! And I got the winning goal!” He yelled back. I could imagine him now, back in the dressing room, jumping around like a little kid in a candy store. “I know babe, Abby and I were screaming and jumping around. We’re so proud of you guys!” I said as I took a cup down from the cabinet. “Wait! Abby was jumping? No she can’t do that, that’s bad for the baby!” Pat yelled. “So I guess I’m on speaker phone? And Pat she’s fine… she wasn’t really jumping, that was more me.” I said laughing at how concerned he was. Ever since Abby had found out she was pregnant, Patrick had been so concerned about everything and it was really cute. “Yeah babe you are.” Jon responded laughing at Patrick. “Well in that case, congrats boys! I love you all and we’re gonna have a dinner here when you get back to celebrate bringing home The Cup again!” I heard a bunch of cheering from the background and knew that was a yes from all the guys. “Alright babe we gotta go but we’ll be home tomorrow around 4 okay?” Jon said as he took me off speakerphone. “Alright. I gotta go give Abby her tea so I’ll see you tomorrow, love you.” I said picking up the mug and heading towards the living room. “Love you too.”

As I got to the living room and put Abby’s tea on the coffee table I got really nauseous and ran to the bathroom to throw up. I heard Abby come in a minute later. “Arianna, are you okay?” She asked as she leaned against the doorframe. “Yeah, I’m fine. I just caught what you had a few weeks ago.” I said rinsing out my mouth. “Arianna, you’ve been sick for almost 3 weeks, I was sick for 5 days… Maybe you should take a pregnancy test.” She said biting her lip. “Abby I’m not pregnant.” I said looking at her with an are you kidding face. “Yeah well I was exactly the same as you are now at the beginning of my pregnancy.” She said returning the same look. “Please, just to rule it out as a possibility.” She asked me with concern. “Fine, I’ll pick a test up tomorrow morning at the store.” I said heading back up to my room. “Good. Goodnight.” She said turning off the TV and heading to the downstairs guest room.

-The next morning-

It was about noon when I got home from the store and took out the box with the pregnancy test in it. I know I had told Abby I wasn’t pregnant last night and acted like it was no big deal, but I was actually freaking out. Yes Jon and I wanted kids, but we weren’t planning on having them this early. We had only been married for a little over a year. I mean I was only 22 years old for god sakes. We wanted time to be married and do whatever we wanted before having kids, but Abby was right- she’d been this way when she found out she was pregnant and I was terrified of what the little stick was going to tell me.

After you took the test you had to wait 2 minutes so I set the timer on my phone and distracted myself by putting the dishes in the dishwasher away. The timer rang, telling me it was time to go check the test. My heart was beating a mile a minute and my stomach was in knots. When I went in and look at the stick I was shocked…

Two bright pink lines…
