It’s a couple weeks before Melody’s due date. Melody is sleeping while James is out for the morning. She wakes up in severe pain. James comes home and hears Melody crying. He goes into the bedroom to see what’s wrong.

James - Mel? Honey? You ok?
Melody - I’ve gone into labor.
James - Ok ok I’ll get you to the hospital.

James helps Melody out of bed and grabs her bag. They head to James’s car and then James drives as fast as he can to get Melody to the hospital. Melody’s doctor puts them in a room. James moves the chair closer to Melody’s bed and starts holding her hand trying to comfort her.

Melody - I have never been in so much pain in my life
James - Is there anything I can do for you?
Melody - Go find my doctor so she can give me something for the pain.
James - Ok I’ll be right back.

James goes to find Melody’s doctor. A short time later James and her doctor come into the room. Her doctor gives her a shot of pain killers to help ease her labor pain. A short time later Melody is asleep. James sits back down in the chair and starts holding her hand and whispering to her how much he loves her. He then leans over and gives her a kiss. A few hours later Melody wakes up.

Melody - Hey, how long was I asleep?
James - A couple hours.
Melody - Thank you for staying with me.
James - There’s no place I’d rather be then by your side.
Melody - I love you James.
James - I love you too sweetie.

Melody goes back to sleep for the rest of the day. Some time in the middle of the night Melody wakes up when she feels fluid leaking from her.

Melody - James, wake up.
James - What’s wrong sweetie?
Melody - Go get my doctor. My water just broke.
James - Ok, I’ll be right back.
Melody - Just hurry please.

James gets up and goes to find Melody’s doctor. By the time James and the doctor come into Melody’s room she is too far in labor to give anymore pain medication. Melody starts to cry cuz she is in extreme pain from the contractions. A half hour to an hour later Melody gives birth to a healthy baby boy, who she has named Deter James. James comes back into Melody’s room after texting Leslie to tell her that Melody had her baby. He sees that Melody is sound asleep. He goes over and sits in the chair by her bed. He leans forward to give her a kiss and runs his fingers through her hair. He falls asleep for a couple hours until it’s morning. He wakes up to see Melody smiling at him.

James - Hey baby, I love you.
Melody - I love you too James.
James - How are you feeling?
Melody - Just tired
James - Then just go back to sleep baby.
Melody - Will you stay with me?
James - Of course I will.
Melody - Would love to cuddle with you.
James - Of course you can cuddle with me.

James gets into Melody’s bed with her. Melody snuggles up to James and goes right to sleep. James wraps his arm around Melody and goes right to sleep until later that afternoon. Leslie comes to the hospital to visit Melody.

Leslie - Hey, how’s she doing?
James - She’s pretty tired.
Leslie - Then I won’t stay long. She needs to rest.
James - I did take some pictures of her baby with my phone if you wanted to see him.
Leslie - I would love to see her baby.
James - Here he is (Digs out his phone and shows Leslie his picture of Deter)
Leslie - Aww, he is so cute.
James - Someday he’ll be my son.
Leslie - Aww, and you’ll be a wonderful father to little Deter.
James - I hope so.
Leslie - I know so and maybe one day you and Melody will have your own baby.
James - I would love that.
Leslie - I’m going to go so she can rest.
James - We’ll be home in a couple days.
Leslie - Ok

Leslie leaves when James runs his fingers through Melody’s dark brown hair. He then gives her a kiss when she wakes up.

James - Hey, sleep ok babe?
Melody - Sure did since you were here with me.
James - I’d love to see my future son.
Melody - Aww, of course you can see him.

Melody leads James to the nursery. James smiles when he touches Deter and has a small tear roll down his cheek as he talks to little Deter.

James - Hey there little man. I may not be your real daddy but I hope to be one day. I love your mommy with all of my heart and I will love you just the same even though you aren’t my biological son.
Melody - Hey, what’s wrong sweetie?
James - Just seeing him got me choked up a little.
Melody - Aww, it’s ok to cry. You’ll be a wonderful father to him.
James - Will I be able to adopt him?
Melody - His bio-dad will have to terminate his rights and who the hell knows where he is. I haven’t seen him or talked to him in 9 months. Other thing we need to do is get married at some point.
James - Then lets get married once the season ends.
Melody - Aww, I would love that.
James - Why don’t you go take a nap.
Melody - Will you join me?
James - I need to call my mom. I’ll join you in a little bit.
Melody - Ok

James gives Melody a kiss. Melody goes back to her while James goes into one of the waiting rooms to call his mom.

Deborah - This is a nice surprise. What do you need Son?
James - Some advice
Deborah - What’s wrong James?
James - You remember Melody right?
Deborah - Yes, that wonderful girl you’re engaged to. Did she have her baby?
James - Yes and I want to adopt him.
Deborah - Wow, you must really love Mel to want to do this.
James - You bet I do. Her ex left her and started cheating on her the minute she told him she was pregnant. Her son needs a father even if he isn’t my real son.
Deborah - Oh wow James. That isn’t right that she had to go through over half her pregnancy alone.
James - Mel hasn’t seen or spoken to her ex in 9 months.
Deborah - Then it should be easy to get her ex to terminate his rights. You and Mel will need to get married before you can go through the adoption process.
James - We plan on doing that this summer.
Deborah - Aww, well if she needs help planning this wedding or helping baby sitting I can come down.
James - I’m sure she’d appreciate the help. I should go check on her.
Deborah - Ok, take care James.
James - I love you Mom.
Deborah - I love you too Son.

James and his mom hang up. He goes back to Melody’s room to check on her. When he goes into her room he sees that she is sound asleep. He smiles when he gets into her bed with her. He wraps his arm around Melody and goes to sleep until later that night. A couple days pass. Melody and little Deter are allowed to go home. A couple months pass and it’s now the first week of June. Melody, Leslie, and James’s mom are planning her and James’s wedding at the end of the month.
