In the change room, the guys had all arrived, besides Jack and Andre, and had music blaring while they pumped themselves up. Nathan wasn't. He was slumped in the corner on his phone. He noticed Audrey's complete demeanor change when he walked in. Jo dropped down beside his best friend.

“You know we’re gonna kill it today.” Jo nudged him.

“Audrey honestly hates me.” Nathan whispered. “She just tenses up when she sees me.”

Jo let out a long breath. “We are here for hockey. Don’t worry about whatever Audrey’s doing, alright?” He squeezed Nathan’s shoulder.

Nathan nodded before Jo got up. He finished getting dressed while music blared through the change room. A playlist Audrey had made. Nathan wanted nothing more than to move on and get over Audrey, but she was always around. He couldn’t get over her. He never even had her and he was hung up on her. It was messed up and he hated himself for it. He finished getting dressed and decided to wander the arena.

The coaches finally arrived a half hour before their first game. The guys were all called to the room. Dustin, Phil, and Jamie talked game with the team before it was time for warm up. The girls were all standing at the glass. Warm ups went by quickly, then it was game time. Fairview played Henderson first. They were one of Fairview’s biggest rivals.

A group of girls in Henderson jerseys were standing to the left of the other girls. Danielle rolled her eyes and looked at Taylor, who was already glaring at them. Holiday wanted to avoid conflict, Audrey’s eyes were on the ice, and the other two didn’t care about either team since they weren’t from either school. Dani elbowed Audrey. She looked over at the girls and shook her head.

Audrey wished she had given those girls more than a dirty look once the game started. They hadn’t stopped chirping Fairview once. All the girls were annoyed, even Holiday, which said something. Kaylynn had kept Candice quiet for the most part. She was doing a good job of it before something was said about Aaron. Candice walked past her friends to the group of girls. They all gave her dirty looks.

“I get the whole school rival thing, but you’re being rude. You’re fully aware that the six of us standing there are cheering for Fairview and you’re being like this.” Candice hissed.

“I touched a nerve because I insulted your boyfriend, didn’t I?” One of the girls smiled.

“What does it matter? You’re still being a bitch.” Audrey called as she walked over. “Just cheer for your team and keep the rude comments to yourself.”

“Oh, coach’s daughter speaking up.” The girl smirked, standing. “Look, I’m just pointing out that number five is slow and it’d be easy for my boys to skate to his side since it’s the weak side.”

“I wouldn’t be downing my team when they’re up three goals.” Audrey shrugged.

“You’re only up two.” The girl narrowed her eyes.

“No, you see, number twenty three?” Audrey asked, pointing to Sam. “He’s been reading your players the entire game. The second that puck drops, he’s going to win the faceoff, pass to number ninety five, who will then deke your left defenseman, before passing back to twenty three who will go top shelf on your goalie.”

The girl rolled her eyes. “Our goalie has one of the quickest gloves in the city.”

The goal horn blared in the background as the guys hugged Sam. “Guess not.” Audrey smiled before going back to her spot.

The game ended with Fairview winning 5-0. Zach’s first game awarded him with a shutout. The guys all piled around him, bumping heads. They all filed off the ice to their change room. Audrey was at the door, unlocking it, as they started to come over. Curtis tapped her butt with his stick. She stood up straight and glared at him jokingly while he grinned.

“Nice goal.” She said as he stepped forward.

He leaned in and kissed her cheek. “Nice butt.” He smirked.

Audrey laughed, shaking her head as he walked into the change room. She nodded at all the guys and congratulated the ones that did big things. She noticed a few missing and turned to look for them. Sam Bennett was standing with Kaylynn. She had a smile on her face while he looked shy. He was a foot taller than her with all his equipment on. Candice was hanging off Aaron, literally. Her arms were wrapped around his neck while he held onto her waist. Her feet were off the ground. Aaron was scary tall.

Taylor was talking with Jack. She always looked so happy when she was with him. Jack was the same height as Aaron, but Taylor was a little shorter than Candice. Maybe that’s why she was just standing with him instead of hanging from him like a necklace. The difference between Jack and Aaron was that Jack was lanky and Aaron was muscle. He was all about working out. Holiday was with Andre. He was tall, but so was she. The were the perfect height for each other. Her head was at his chin, so he could rest it on her head while he held her.

Danielle let out a growl as she walked over to Audrey. “Can we please go get food or something? These couples are making me sick.”

Audrey chuckled. “Yeah. Can you guys tell my dad that we went for food?” She asked the love fest in front of her. A few nodded. “Thanks.”

Danielle and Audrey walked down the hall talking about the game. Audrey’s name started to be called. She finished what she was saying and looked up. Dani and Audrey were walking directly towards a small group of guys. One was coming straight for Audrey. His smile grew. She suddenly recognized who it was.

Brendan?” Audrey gasped as he pulled her into a hug. “I didn’t think you’d be coming!”

He pulled away, holding her face. “Why wouldn’t I? It’s my last year.” He said, staring her in the eye.

“I don’t know. I just didn’t think.” She giggled.

“God, you’re as beautiful as ever.” He sighed before kissing her.

Danielle just watched in shock. She had no idea who the random kissing her best friend was. She was confused as hell. Audrey pulled back from the guy slowly. Danielle watched them before looking at the guys Brendan had walked over with. They were all in Northdale Hockey clothing. It made sense now.

“Bren, this is my best friend, Danielle. Dani, this is Brendan.” Audrey introduced, making her eyes wide as she looked at Danielle.

Brendan extended a hand and smiled. “Nice to meet you, Danielle.” He cooed.

Danielle nodded once as she shook his hand. “Likewise. Audrey has told me so much about you.” She lied.

Audrey held in the gasp she almost let out. She put a smile on her face and turned to Brendan. “We have to run out and grab some food for the guys. I’ll find you when I get back.” She explained to him.

He nodded, kissing her again. “I might be playing when you get back, so come watch.”

“Yo, Auds!” Jacob hollered from the doorway. She turned to face him. “Can you grab me a bite?” She nodded. “You’re a beaut.”

Audrey shook her head and turned back to face Brendan. “'Beaut' calling awaits.” She joked.

Her and Danielle finally escaped. The second they walked out the door, Audrey let out the largest breath. Danielle started the rapid fire of questions instantly. Audrey begged her to wait till they were in the car. Once they were in, buckled, and ready to go, Danielle pestered again.

“So?”

“My ex, from Northdale. He’s Aaron’s best friend and he doesn’t seem to understand that not talking for months means we’re done.” Audrey growled. “But I’ll probably make it well known if he kisses me again.” A chill ran down her spine.

“Sam might fight him.” Danielle teased.

“Sam isn’t into me.” Audrey rolled her eyes as she turned onto the road.

“Then get Nathan to box him.” Danielle shrugged, earning a glare.
