Game two was another win for Fairview. It was by a single goal, but it was a win. Mack had scored the goal for Fairview. He poked the puck off the other team and broke down the ice. It hit the back of the net and he was piled on. The guys were buzzing so far. A set of girls were near the Fairview girls once again. They weren’t rude, they were just convinced the referees were on Fairview’s side. One of them, who had made it known that her name was Sarah, kept going even after the players cleared the ice. Danielle was annoyed.

“I’m just saying, the refs called everything on us and nothing on the other team.” Sarah whined.

“We had four penalties in the first period, Sarah!” Danielle exclaimed.

Sarah’s eyes went wide at Danielle. “How do you know my name?” She gasped.

“Because you didn’t shut up!” Dani yelled. “The game’s over, fuck off!”

Danielle stomped out of the rink. Audrey followed her out. Dani ignored Audrey calling for her and walked to the washroom. Audrey followed her in, just to see a stall slam shut. She knocked on it, leaning against it. Dani put the seat down and sat, brushing her hair out of her face.

“What’s wrong?” Audrey sighed.

“That girl was annoying!” Danielle yelped.

“No, what’s actually wrong?” Audrey rolled her eyes.

Danielle opened the door, frowning at Audrey. “Why do I like Michael Dal Colle and why won’t he even look at me?” She huffed.

“Because boys are stupid. Don’t worry about it too much, okay?” Audrey reassured her.

The pair walked out of the change room. They made fun of Sarah and her friends as they walked back to the room. Before they got to the hall that Fairview’s change room was in, Sam came running over to them, shirtless without any shoes. He still had his hockey pants and lower body equipment on. He grabbed Audrey’s shoulders, getting a look from her.

“I need you to go upstairs and grab me some food, please.” He looked into her eyes.

“Okay, what do you want?” She asked.

He smiled, letting go of his shoulders. “Something greasy and something meaty.” He explained as he handed her his bankcard.

She pushed it back. “My treat.”

He exhaled dramatically before pulling her into a hug. She could feel her face burning up. She heard her name being called but she ignored it. Sam let go of her. She saw the rest of the girls and some of the guys coming towards them. She held a finger up to her lip, telling Sam not to mention what she was doing. He nodded, zipping his lips. She smiled.

“Babe, didn’t you hear me calling you?” Brendan’s voice interrupted.

She turned to him. “No, sorry. I was talking.” She frowned as he wrapped an arm around her.

Babe?” Sam spoke.

Audrey felt her heart stop. “Uh, yeah. This is Brendan. Brendan, this is my neighbour, Sam.” She introduced them.

Brendan shook Sam’s hand with a smile. “Pleasure to meet you.”

Sam nodded. “I haven’t heard anything about you before. I didn’t even know she had a boyfriend.” He told Brendan.

Brendan shrugged. “Guess she wanted to keep me all to herself.” He joked, pulling her in closer.

“Yup!” Audrey replied, her voice high pitched.

“Oh, so this is the famous Brendan?” Holiday played as if she had heard a word about him. “I’m Holiday.”

“Which one?” He smirked before laughing.

Danielle snorted at him. He was a joke. Audrey laughed with him while Holiday fake smiled. Sam just stared at him. Was he jealous? He couldn’t tell. He just didn’t like something about the guy. Brendan finished laughing and pressed his lips to the top of Audrey’s head. Aaron came down the hall. He and Brendan both lit up when they spotted each other. Brendan ran over to Aaron, who then lifted him in a hug. Sam walked over to Audrey.

“Be careful, alright?” He whispered.

“Of what?” She shot back.

He didn’t answer. He shot Brendan another look before walking down the hall. Taylor and Holiday walked over to Audrey.

“You need to explain.” Taylor said through gritted teeth. Audrey nodded.

“I have a game now. Come watch?” Brendan said, pouting at Audrey.

She nodded. “Right after I get something to eat, alright?”

He nodded and kissed her. The four girls took off, along with Candice and Kaylynn. Brendan went to his change room. Aaron was the last Fairview guy to get to the change room. They all looked to him, waiting for the story on Brendan and Audrey. He rolled his eyes as he walked to his spot.

“They were together when Audrey was back at Northdale. She left and didn’t really end things so I guess he assumed nothing was different.” Aaron kept it short. “Even though they haven’t talked since she left.”

“So he’s crazy?” Nick asked.

“More or less.” Aaron shrugged.
