The girls stood at the bar of the upstairs restaurant. They were all waiting for Audrey to explain. Taylor kicked her leg.

“Spill!” Taylor yelled.

“Oh my god, he’s my ex from Northdale that doesn’t understand that he’s an ex.” Audrey growled.

“He’d probably understand if Audrey had actually broken up with him when she moved.” Kaylynn added.

“Oh, Auds.” Holiday shook her head.

“I know, okay?” Audrey sighed. “I’ll talk to him before we leave.”

“You need to. Aaron told me Bren is so hung up on you.” Candice frowned.

Audrey let out an unhuman noise as she rubbed her face. The waitress placed Audrey’s order in front of her. She thanked her and grabbed it, walking to the change room without waiting for the girls. She knocked when she got there. Jo opened the door and smiled at her.

“Hey, gorgeous.” He greeted.

She rolled her eyes. “Samson!” She called, waving the bag of his food.

He stood up, walking over to her. She handed him the bag. He pushed it back to her before he guided her out of the room. He took her to the end of the hall, near a set of fire escape doors. She looked into the bag of food.

“I got you a burger with condiments and vegetables on the side because I didn’t kn,”

“Auds, you need to set Brendan straight.” Sam breathed.

She took a deep breath.”Look, it’s really none of your business, Sam.”

“You don’t want to be with him anymore and it isn’t fair to him or yourself.” He continued. “I’m just looking out for you.”

She looked up at him with a frown. “I know I have to do it but I’d hate to see him hurt.” She explained.

“Just tell him you’re not feeling it anymore. If he gets mad, he wasn’t worth it.” He assured her.

She nodded. “I’ll do it after his game.” She stated. “Here’s your food.”

“Thank you.” He smiled at her. “I know you’re worried about hurting Brendan, but you need to do something for yourself.”

“I’ll do it. I promise.” She told him. “For myself.”

Audrey watched the rest of Brendan’s game by herself. She spent it thinking.Thinking about what she was going to say to him, and Sam. She was always thinking about Sam. He was different than any other guy she had ever been interested in. He was nice to her. He cared about her thoughts and her feelings. Sure, he only saw her as a friend, but you couldn’t blame a girl for falling for him.

Before she knew it, the game had ended. Northdale won and Brendan had scored two goals. He came off the ice, grinning. He waited by the door in full equipment as Audrey walked over. She smiled at him when she reached him. He kissed the top of her head while hugging her. She shoved him away.

“You smell like shit!” She cried. “Go change!”

He chuckled. “Okay, wait for me.”

So she did. She sat outside the Northdale change room, waiting for Brendan. Waiting to break Brendan’s heart. The Fairview team walked past her as they made their way to the rink they were playing on. Most of them didn’t notice her, but the few that did mocked her. They all knew who she was waiting for. Sam came by and tapped her with his stick. He smiled at bit and she returned it with a nod. The change room door opened and Brendan walked out.

“Do you wanna watch Fairview?” He smiled, helping her up.

She took a deep breath, adjusting her jacket. “After we talk.”

Audrey took Brendan’s hand and guided him away from his change room. She knew she’d have no luck finding somewhere without people around. She decided that out front of the arena was their best bet. Brendan waved and smiled at people as they walked. He knew everyone. They got outside and Audrey sat on one of the giant rocks that were there for decoration. Brendan stood in front of her.

“You know what we should do? Go on a double date with Aaron and Candice.” He spoke. “We could go sk,”

“No, we couldn’t.” She cut him off. His eyes fell to her. “Look, Bren, this is your last year at Northdale. I live hours away and you’re graduating this year. I think we should just be friends.” She exhaled.

He looked down before nodding his head. “You’re right. Friends is perfect.” He agreed.

“It just doesn’t feel the same anymore.” She frowned.

“It really doesn’t and I’m really glad you thought of this because I wouldn’t have.” He laughed. “Do you wanna go watch your school now?”

She nodded before her phone started ringing. “Mack, aren’t you on the ice?”

“I ran back into the change room.” He explained. “Selena is here and I need her to not be.”

She rolled her eyes. “I’ll be there in a few.”

“What was that?” Brendan asked as they walked inside.

“Selena’s here.” Audrey whispered, spotting her.

Brendan furrowed his brows. Everyone at Fairview knew about Mack and Selena. Everyone knew about the nasty break up. They all knew it was because Selena cheated.

Kaylynn came into the picture after Selena. She knew the entire story, and Selena knew who Kaylynn was. She stood with her head down to avoid Selena. Selena was standing near the change room, waiting for Mack. Audrey walked over to her with a smile before guiding her into the rink.

“Mack must’ve forgot something.” Selena shrugged.

“Yeah, let’s go get good spots before the game.” Audrey smiled, guiding her inside the rink.

Mack ran past the two and onto the ice while Audrey had distracted Selena. Selena was going on about something her and Mack had done. In ninth grade. Audrey just nodded along. Selena let out a squeal when she saw Mack on the ice. Audrey had to do everything to not roll her eyes.

“Didn’t you and Mack break up?” Dani shot out.

“I’d say it was more of a break.” Selena argued.

“I’m pretty sure he dated his girlfriend after you for longer than he dated you so I doubt that.” Taylor shook her head.

“Okay, why are you both being little bitches?” Selena hissed, crossing her arms.

“Becuase Mack’s done with you! He broke up with you because you’re a whore! Fuck off and go away!” Holiday yelled. Everyone stared at her in shock. “I’m so fucking sick of Mack freaking out every time this girl shows up. Just stay away. Get it through your head that he no longer has feelings for you. He fears you.”

Selena started shaking her head. “Audrey, tell her she doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”

“She does. Mack just called me, freaking out because you’re here.” Audrey frowned. “I think it’s time to move on, Sel.”

Selena let out a screech that caused everyone to freeze. Mack’s eyes were wide as he watched. She took a deep breath before bumping past Audrey and out of the rink. Audrey watched her walk to the front before she exhaled. She turned to Mack and gave him a thumbs up. He let out a sigh of relief.
