Sam sat in his car, watching Audrey walk with Nick to her own. They were holding hands and looked happy. He hated it. Audrey leaned her back against her car to face Nick. He smiled and said something before kissing her. Sam rolled his eyes. Nick was no where near good enough for Audrey. Nick kissed her again before she climbed into her car. She waved to him as she pulled out of her parking spot. Sam followed.

They drove home the same way. Sam pulled up next to her at a stoplight. She looked over, rolling her eyes. Her window was down so he rolled down his. She turned down her music, waiting for him to say some snive comment.

"So, the captain now? Making your way up in the world, huh?" He spoke.

She smirked, shaking her head. "It's called an upgrade."

He froze as she drove off. A car behind him honked before he drove off. He couldn't believe she had moved on after she seemed to like him so much. It wasn't fair to him. He hadn't been the best but it just wasn't alright. Especially not his own teammate.

Sam got home and slammed the door shut. Griffin watched him from the couch. He wanted to complain to him, but he couldn't. Griffin was still mad at him. Sam came up with an idea. He pulled out his phone and dialed Aaron's number. He answered.

"What's going on, man?" Aaron asked.

"Just missed your voice." Sam teased.

"I missed yours too, buddy. But what's really wrong?" Aaron laughed.

"I don't really know." Sam shrugged. "Have you heard about Nick and Audrey?"

"Ah, so that's what's wrong." Aaron sighed. "Are you feeling jealous or what?"

"Maybe just lonely. I mean, I hung out with Audrey every day and now because I confused her, I ruined our friendship." Sam explained.

"Try talking to her, bud. It's the only thing you can do." Aaron suggested.

"Yeah, as if. Audrey avoids me at all costs." Sam huffed. "I'm gonna go take a nap or something. Thanks for listening, man."

"Yeah, no problem. Hang in there." Aaron said before hanging up.

Sam waited before Griffin got up. Griffin didn’t say a word, he just walked out the front door. He walked around the block a few times. There was no way in hell he was going to condone his brother after the shit he pulled on Audrey. Griffin passed his house for the sixth time. He slowed down. Was it wrong of him to not help his brother out at his time of need?

No.

Sam did this to himself.

Griffin kept walking. He round the corner and slowed down as he approached Audrey’s house. Would it be wrong to go talk to her?

Of course it would.

Even if he was mad at Sam, that was still his little brother. He might have been on Audrey’s side but he couldn’t show it. He kept walking a bit before he stopped. He needed to go talk to Audrey. He wanted to try and make it right between her and Sam, for Audrey, and for his own sanity.

He walked up to her front door. He knocked and she pulled it open. She glared up at him. She didn't look like she was in great shape. She had her hair piled on top of her head in a bun. Her eyes were red and puffy under her glasses. She had a baggy Kings shirt on with spandex shorts and boot slippers. She frowned at him once he looked her over.

"Are you really this upset?" Griffin sighed.

She rolled her eyes, stomping back to the couch. "Yeah! I am! I miss the kid like crazy!" She cried before she sunk into the couch. "I'm lonely."

He walked over and sat beside her. He wrapped his arm around her before she rested her head on his shoulder. "You have Nick now." He tried to reassure her.

"But Nick isn't Sam." She huffed. "This is stupid."

"He's in no better of shape, Auds. He misses you just as much." He told her.

"Shut up." She shook her head. "Why aren't you over there consoling him then?"

"Because he doesn't deserve it." He shrugged.

She groaned. "Griff,"

"No, he did this to himself." He argued.

"He's your baby brother!" She yelped. Griffin shrugged. "C'mon."

"What?" He furrowed his brows.

"We're going over to your house." She stated.

"Why?" He questioned as he stood.

"To see Sammy."

Audrey walked out the door in what she was wearing. Griffin argued with her the entire walk. She wished she had changed before she went outside. Not because she looked disgusting, just because she was freezing. She walked into the Reinharts house.

Sam was laying on the couch. His eyes slowly drifted to her. He sat up when he realized it was her. She gave him a small smile. He stood up and walked over to her slowly. She jumped into his arms when he was close enough. He held her waist tight as they hugged.

"Is this real?" He laughed as she pulled back.

"Griff told me you were down so I thought I'd bring him over to cheer you up." She explained, feeling awkward now.

"Auds, I don't even understand what's going on. Why are you so mad at me?" He frowned.

Her expression changed immediately. Her brows furrowed, her face squished together. She couldn't believe him. She shook her head with a laugh.

"You know exactly why, Sam." She breathed.

"I guess I do but I don't," He sighed. "I just want my best friend back."

She shook her head. “You don’t get it!”

“What? What don’t I get?” He growled.

“I can’t be your friend, Sam!” She exclaimed. His face sunk. “I can’t just be friends with you. Do you get it now?”

He nodded. “I don’t know what to say.”

She felt her heart drop. She nodded her head once before she turned on her heel and walked out of the house. Griffin watched her then looked to Sam. He was zoned out. Griffin shoved him causing him to stumble.

“Go after her! That’s what she wants!” He yelled.

“Griffin, I c,”

“You’re such a fucking idiot!” Griffin hollered. “Even if you don’t feel the same, she’s still your best friend.”

“It’s a lot to take in.” Sam mumbled, staring at the door.

“No, it really isn’t.” Griffin shook his head. “Just don’t talk to me until you fix shit with Audrey.”

“My own brother is backing out on me?” Sam chuckled.

“Sam, Audrey hasn’t had a stable relationship in her entire life because of who her dad is and now you’re gonna fuck up the only one she has because you’re being a baby.” Griffin explained. “This is all you. Don’t try to blame anyone else.”
