The Best is Yet to Come

2 years after Nicole was traded to Chicago she had won a Stanley cup, a Norris trophy and she had a boyfriend.

And by boyfriend I mean she was dating the captain. (AN: jk. I ship Kazer so hard)

So technically she had moved on from Pittsburgh and while it was a chapter in her life she would never forget, it was just a chapter.

Olli on the other hand was still caught up on her. She was this mysterious, scary yet vulnerable girl who came into his life for a short while and changed it for the better. Because of her he realized that you can't judge a book by its cover and he never again underestimated the power of a women.

But it was still hard for him to see her face or hear her name on the TV without thinking of all their memories, she was his first time, his first real girlfriend, and his first love (besides his mom, but that just makes him sound like a loser).

And even though she put on a tough face for the world she still thought of Olli about every day. She'd get texts from him and never open them in fear he'd make her love him again.

It's not that she didn't enjoy loving him, she was scared to fall for him again only to get burned.

The 2 teams had battled in the years after the trade but every time one or the other person was somehow "injured".

But this time the Pens and Blackhawks were playing each other in the Winter Classic. And no matter how awkward was neither Olli nor Nicole was going to miss the opportunity.

The game happened and Nic was sitting in her room of Toews apartment, he took her in when she first came to Chicago and then they became a couple, when she heard a knock at her door.

She figured it was just Jonny asking if she wanted to order pizza but it was Olli.

"I don't wanna talk." She said as soon as she saw him.

He stepped into her room and grabbed her shoulders making her face him.

"You don't have to, I just want you to listen to the things that took me 2 years to figure out how to say." He looked her in the eyes.

She nodded her head and he continued.

"Ok, the night you got traded I was angry and upset and I let you leave without saying what needed to be said. Nic, I love you. Not loved. Love. Present tense, and I know you're with Jonny and I respect that." He blinked away tears, "but you were my first love, and that changed me. Nicole I just need you to know that I still love you. And I always will, and if you ever need somebody I will be here. And I need you to know that even though I tried to ignore you it was only to spare me pain and before you, I didn't know what love was."

"Olli, I appreciate you coming hear tonight and I needed to hear these things and you were my first love too." Nic smiled, "and I still love you. But we need to move on from each other."

"I agree." He nodded.

"And this isn't going to be goodbye. It's going to be a see you later." She hugged him.

"See you later." He mumbled into her soft black hair, that still smelt like fruit.

"See you later." She smiled into his hoodie.

And he walked out the door, said a quick thank you to Jon for letting him in and went back to the hotel room the guys were staying at.

"Hey, Olli. Where were you?" His roommate Kasperi asked.

"I just had some... Unfinished business to take care of."

Back at Jonny's apartment Nic was curled up on the couch with Jon and some pizza.

"How come I've never seen that hoodie before?" He asked.

She looked down and saw her hoodie, she hadn't realized which one it was.

She was wearing Olli's hoodie. The one that he had given her when they first kissed.

And that my friends is the end of The Best is Yet to Come. This story was something I started over the summer just because I had this idea and I figured other people might like it too. It also helped me express my love for Olli. But anyway I don't plan on a part 2, mostly because I don't have my ideas. But if you guys have any comment them and we'll see.
