This Means War

Chapter 6 - Shots fired

Jonathan’s P.O.V.

Finally arrived at the United Center, I entered the building and went to the meeting room like a zombie. I knew I had to clear my mind to focus on the coach’s speech but all I could think about was Nadia: what happened, how I felt, what she said… The last one kept me intrigued. Why would she think such bad things of herself? I pushed the door, trying to, at least, put her aside for hockey stuff. The last seat left was next to Pat. For the first time in my life, it felt awkward. I sat and waited for the coach to speak.

“Alright… Now that our captain finally arrived…” he started, severely staring at me.
“Too busy with chicks, ya know” Pat cut him.

I squeezed my fists, almost ripping my hands’ skin off. He turned his head towards the coach with a proud smile, waiting for him to continue. The coach, unwilling to joke, looked him straight in the eyes.

“Whatever Jon was doing, I think he understood what I meant, right?”
“Right, coach” I quickly added.
“Good”

The coach continued his speech to motivate us for the new season and get us ready for the games. I was incredibly bored and unable to focus. I shook my head, trying to get back to hockey.

Patrick’s P.O.V.

He thought he was smart enough to catch me? Duh, I won’t be turned down by this little comment! I kept on raging during all of the speech until the part where we were leaving: tomorrow night. That meant I had a night left to get one more achievement done with Nadia. I was not gonna let that chance pass. As soon as the coach finished giving the details about the trip, I grabbed my phone.

Hey :) it’s Pat! Wanna hang out tonight?

Message sent. Good. I just had the time to look up from my phone that I saw Jon right in front of my face.

“Dude, what the fuck?” I exclaimed in surprise. Wasn’t expecting this.
“I think we need to talk” Jon said, pointing his eyes towards a corner.

I sighed and followed him. Dang, was he gonna be on my back the entire trip?

“I think we have a problem” he flatly said.
“What kind of problem? You’re saying that as if we were in a relationship. Are you having your period?”
“I knew you were some kind of jerk but can you keep it for the girls?”

We both sighed.

Jonathan’s P.O.V.

“Stop being all pumped up, Tazer!” he threw with a smirk. “What really is the matter?”
“Oh you know what is the problem, Pat! We’re fighting over that girl”
“Nadia? You really want that kind of chick in your life?”
“She might be kinda weird and unusual but still… I’m sure it would be better than with any of the sluts surrounding us”
“Kinda weird?” he chuckled. “Dude, that girl is fucked up don’t you see it?”
“I forbid you to think that of her!” I growled, pointing my finger at his face.

He held his breath for a few seconds then I chilled a bit.

“You’re right… I’m pumped up…”
“Do you see what she’s turning you into? Don’t be that guy”

I looked him in the eyes. What kind of that guy was he saying I was?

“We should forget her” he dropped.
“I can’t do that” I instantly replied. “I felt something special when I saw her… I can’t just close my eyes on her case and move on…”
“I’m not the captain but you sure will need to move on a bit if you want to play 100%”

I exhaled deeply. It did hurt to admit it, but he was right. If I wasn’t 100% listening at a simple team meeting, I could not imagine what it would look like if my ice skills were the same.

“I can focus! I’m just thrilled and confused because meeting her feels so different”
“Damn, those stars in your eyes are blinding me!” he joked.
“In the end… I think I like her like a lot… So…”
“So what?”

I straightened my posture and gave him a severe and dark look. It wasn’t long that his traits faded from funny and flirty to scared puppy look.

“I would like you to stay away from Nadia. I really like her and I want to see how far this can get. I will not tolerate any intervention of any kind coming from you. Understood?”

Patrick’s P.O.V.

What the hell did he just say?! It hasn’t been 24 hours that he met her and now he’s all protective and shit? I had to watch myself to make sure it didn’t look like I wanted her and keep on with this strategy… Yes, I had my plan. I had to know what she had that was so special to make me want her so much… But she was so funny and natural… Jon was right, she was weird and unusual but how comforting did that feel! I was taken out of my train of thoughts by my cell phone’s vibration.

“Understood?!” Jon repeated, sounding a bit annoyed by my daydreaming.
“Yeah, sure… Whatever!” I said, stepping away to leave the place while taking out my phone to read the text message I just received.
“That means you cannot text her either, Pat!” he warned me.
“Don’t worry dude, I just got a hook-up on my agenda before leaving” I replied with a wink.

He seemed to calm down and trust me. Good. I turned around and continued my way, reading the message from Nadia.

“You sure you got the time?”

Nadia’s P.O.V.

“Are you nuts?!” Tommy almost yelled, grabbing my phone.
“What’s wrong this time?”
“If he asks you out, he obviously has time for you!”

I exhaled and put both hands to my face. God damn it!

“I don’t even know why he’s still asking me out… It must be some sort of bet” I said, face down still in my hands.
“Come on, sweetheart! This is not high school anymore!” he said, bending over to face me.

He pulled my hands off of my face and looked me in the eyes with that seductive look and hot corner smile. I wasn’t sure if he was trying to be comforting and can’t turn off his hotness or if he wanted something else…

“I know but this is still such a harsh environment! Dating them feels as safe as jogging in a landmine field!”
“I like your comparisons” he chuckled, seeming more natural. “Oh crap, the pork!!” he exclaimed, jumping up and running to the oven.
“I guess I’ll take it slow… This is going way too fast for me; I can’t follow or understand what really is happening!”
“I was about to suggest it” he said, taking off an oven mitt to wipe some sweat from his forehead.

I smelled the delicious aroma coming from the spiced up pork we just made. Well, Tommy made most of it while I was pouring my heart to him once again.

“I still can’t believe what just happened… Am I in real life or what?!” I laughed.

It still felt like something between a dream and a joke.

“This situation reminds me of a quote from some video game you always play…” Tommy said, staring at the floor as if he was expecting it to tell him the answer.
“Hum, how do I put this? I play a fucking lot of games! Deadspace, Gears of War, Halo, Bioshock, Saints Row… ?”
“You know I am so not into that kind of stuff! It was the historic thing, with the dude killing people with a hood on his head…”
“Assassin’s Creed!” I exclaimed, remembering what I think is the best game ever made.
Nothing is real. Everything is permitted
“Yeah, Altaïr’s words to live by” I said like a sir. Finally a subject I knew and controlled!
“So if you tell yourself that none of the usual rules are true and that everything you could think about is permitted…” he started.
“That means there is absolutely nothing holding me from a future with a hot hockey player!”

He nodded, cutting the meat in slices.

“Is there anything I can do to help?” I asked, feeling not useful in the kitchen.
“I will not leave a knife in your hands but would you mind getting some wine from the mini fridge in my room?”
“Good” I said, standing up to go get the wine as my phone vibrated in my pocket.

“We’re only leaving tomorrow night of course I have plenty of time for you ;)”

Patrick again. Shit. Now what? I went back to the kitchen and put the bottle on the table almost a robotic way. Tommy looked at my expressionless face.

“What? Did you just witness a murder from the window?” he joked, handing me a plate.
“Worse… Pat texted me again. What should I do?”
“Well… It’s up to you I guess. What do you want to do?”

Yeah, sure, what do I wanna do? Such a simple question (insert a ton of sarcasm here)! I let myself fall on the chair like a potato bag and facepalmed myself. I exhaled heavily and heard Tommy pouring wine in some glasses. I took my hand off of my face and looked at the table. A beautiful and mouthwatering plate was waiting for me along with…

“Oh my God that glass is humungous!” I blurted out.
“And you need a humungous cure for the stress these dudes are giving you!” he said, pouring a little more wine in the glass.

Looking at the wine in the glass, I had found my plans for the night.

“You’re right. I should leave them to their hockey stuff and mind my own business in order to rest from that crazy weekend we just had” I told my roommate with a proud smile.
“And by resting you mean drinking wine with your roommate and not caring about them?” he chuckled, pouring himself the same amount of wine.

I nodded and chuckled. Before cheering, I went back to his room to get another bottle. His face when I came back was priceless.

“Gosh! Sounds like you have a plan” he laughed, looking at me with question marks in the eyes.
“Yes, I have a plan. It is to relax and clear my mind, as they should already be doing!” I said, putting my glass up to cheer.
“I drink to that!” Tommy added before cheering with me.

Taking a sip, I threw my phone on the couch. He didn’t need to know what I was doing. I was single, which meant I had the right to ignore them if I pleased for a night of chilling out with my roommate.

Jonathan’s P.O.V.

Home alone, I was lying on my bed. I looked like a starfish holding a cell phone. The 2 first games of the season were not even a day away and I could not focus. With Pat trying to steal Nadia, I could only hope she would not fall for him. I unlocked my phone and browsed my contact list, looking for her name. Finally finding it, I remembered the moment I left her. She said that I had to keep going with my hockey life and that everything was gonna be ok. I closed my eyes and remembered her beautiful smiling face and her eyes full of stars. I smiled, feeling her soft lips on mine again.

“You are right, Nadia. Everything is going to be fine. Everything…”

I kept reminding me this while I continued browsing my contact list to find a restaurant to order from. Fast food wasn’t good before a game but who cared? I didn’t wanna cook at all… After hanging up, I went back to her name on my phone and decided to send her a little message. Best scenario: we would have another conversation. Worst scenario: she would be busy doing something else and not able to answer me. No big deal. No. Big. Deal.

“Hey! It’s Jonathan… Just checking up on you :) I wish you a nice evening and sweet dreams <3 bye xxx”

It didn’t make much sense but I still sent it. I stood up and put on pajama pants and went to the living room to wait for the delivery guy to arrive.

Patrick’s P.O.V.

It’s already been an hour and she didn’t answer my last message. Why?! She used to answer them in the following minute! Now it’s been one fucking hour! I didn’t understand. Was she ignoring me? That was the worst odd I could ever think of to keep me away from my goal of getting her… I had to get her. I literally had to. I had to find out what she had that drew me so much to her. It was going to be a win-win situation anyway: we’d hook up and Jon would be pissed off or, maybe we’d develop a relationship. That thought was quite scary… I remembered how it was with my exes: always focused on my fame and wallet. Nadia was sure not be like that but, was I ready for such a challenge? I exhaled deeply. That wasn’t the normal me. I needed something to cheer myself up for the beginning of the season. I had to hook up with Nadia sometime just for scoring but I wasn’t gonna let myself sink because of her. I grabbed my phone and looked through my contacts list. I found the naughtiest slut ever in my contacts and invited her. Definitely, some good ol’ rough sex was the right cure!

Nadia’s P.O.V.

Two and a half bottles of wine had passed. Saying that I was tipsy was totally underrated. I was sitting on Tommy’s lap on the giant leather couch, acting like a horny stripper. The only difference was that I wasn’t a stripper, hahaha!

“I love what wine does to you” Tommy said in a groggy voice, gripping my thighs.
“Mmm I prefer what YOU do to me” I cooed, an inch away from his face.

I looked him in the eyes, wrapping my arms around his neck.

“You must really need this kind of distraction to come to me when you have 2 superstars after you” he whispered before pulling me from the back of my head for a romantic kiss.

I didn’t wanna waste any more time. I put my hands down his pants and gave him the hungriest look I could ever give him. I hoped he was gonna get the message quickly.

“You want it rough, sweetie?” he hissed before throwing me on my back.

I pulled really hard on his shirt while he was trying to take off my jeans. We laughed but ended up in underwear in a record time for drunken people!

“Shit, there is no condom here!” I exclaimed sitting up to scope the room, looking for that precious box.
“Come on!” he said, grabbing me bridal style and bringing me to his bedroom.

He threw me on the bed and picked a condom from the box on his nightstand. I won’t give any details, but the last of our clothes flew away and I had no time to think about anything disturbing.

Notes

Sorry for the long wait! I had to take care of some personal things but now that it is done, enjoy! I hope you like it :)
