Forever Chicago
Ch. 15
I sat Timmy on the kitchen island, and began to wash the blood from him with a warm wash cloth.
“Are you okay sweetie?” I said, as I dressed his cuts in clean, white bandages.
He nodded, as I pulled one of Jonathan’s t shirts over his head.
Timmy looked exhausted as I tucked him into the guest room bed.
I fell asleep soon after, thinking about how awfully Timmy’s father treated him, and how I would never treat my children that way.
…
The next morning, I woke up to find Timmy and Ollie cuddled together in the guest room. As I began to make a pancake breakfast, I couldn’t help but think what it would be like to a mother to Jon’s kids.
“Good morning.” I said, as Timmy approached the counter.
“Hi.” He yelled sweetly, as I flipped a pancake onto his plate.
After breakfast, Timmy changed into his cleaned, once bloodied clothes, and we headed for the hospital.
“Didn’t I send you home yesterday?” Susan said as we reached her office.
“Yes you did.” I snarled, “And you sent him home to get beaten again.” I said as Timmy flocked to playroom inside her office.
“What?” she said.
“Timmy’s father beats him, badly; I could hear him screaming as soon as I pulled up to his house.” I said.
“I had no idea,” she said.
“No because you didn’t look into his story deep enough.” I was so angry with Susan, she could have very well cost Timmy his life.
“I’m sorry.” She said.
“Don’t apologize to me,” I said, “Apologize to Timmy, and find him a good home.”
“I will,” she said, “I promise.”
“Timmy,” I said crouching down beside him, “I have to go now, Miss Susan is going to find you a good home, I promise.”
I hugged him tightly.
“Bye Kodie.” He said.
It panged me to walk away from him, I just had to hope and pray that Susan would find him a good home.
As I drove from the hospital to Riley’s apartment for more baby things, my phone rang.
“Hey gorgeous.” Jonathan’s voice was sweet on the other end of the phone.
“Hi,” I giggled.
“How was your night?” he said.
“Actually it was weird,”
I went on to tell Jonathan all about Timmy.
“Your amazing.” He said.
“Far from it.” I laughed.
“Way closer than you think. I gotta go but I’ll talk to you later, Love you Kode.” He said.
“Love you too, Good luck tonight!” I smiled.
“Thanks babe.” He said before hanging up.
I reached Riley’s apartment just as I hung up the phone.
“Hey!” she said opening the door.
We sat down on the couch as Riley pulled a single baby book onto her lap.
“Okay,” she said, “So we’ve narrowed it down to two names. Tae or Savannah”
“Oh my gosh, I love both.” I said, “How’s the nursery coming?”
“It’s pretty much done, we’re just waiting on her.” She laughed.
We hung out for a bit, before I headed back to my apartment and Ollie.
…
That night Ollie and I sat cuddled together on the couch awaiting another battle between the Blues and the Blackhawks.
I was exhausted from the day, and was in no mood to stay up and watch, but I had to.
The first period buzzed by scoreless, along with the second.
The third period climbed to its end with only one goal being scored by of course, Steve Ott.
The guys looked miserable as they exited the ice.
I climbed into bed and fell into a deep sleep.
…
Ollie licked my face early the next morning, I showered quickly and awaited Jonathan’s return, I knew he would probably be stung from last night’s loss.
“Hi.” I said as Jonathan walked through the door, without Patrick Kane, who I assumed had gone to Paige’s.
“Hi,” he sighed immediately pulling me in close to him, “I missed you.”
Jonathan kissed me hard as his hands began to travel lower and lower down my back. I laughed lightly, as I kissed him back hard.
Jonathan lifted me by the waist as he carried me to the bedroom. Laying me on the bed,
Jonathan’s body lay over me.
I tugged at his shirt, as he pulled my jeans off. His lips grazed along my neck as my back arched into him. I rolled over on top of him, as he pulled my t shirt over my head. Jonathan’s pants joined the floor, along with bra.
Jonathan lay back on the bed as I sat over him, slowly moving up and down, and he moaned. As both of us came into each other, Jonathan sat up on the bed massaging my breasts with his lips.
We fell back into bed, and I into Jonathan’s strong grip.
“I missed you too.” I smiled.
…
That night Jonathan and I sat watching the news, half asleep I was shocked awake at what came across the screen as I lay across Jonathan’s lap.
“And in other news” The anchor read, “6 year old Timmy Collins was beaten to death by his father on Saturday night.”
“What?” I sat up abruptly, “Oh my God.”
“What is it babe?” Jonathan said.
“That’s Timmy.” I said, putting my hands over my face.
“Aw Kodie.” He said hugging me.
“I can’t believe I bet another kid die.” I said.
“No Kodie, it’s not your fault, Rose was sick.” He said.
“But Timmy wasn’t,” I said, “I never should have brought him back to the hospital, I knew Susan would give him back.”
“Kodie,” Jonathan took my face in his hands, “It’s not your fault, you couldn’t of saved Timmy.”
I couldn’t help but cry.
…
Timmy’s death was hard to take, but I had to move forward. It was the playoffs and Jonathan had another game tonight the series was at 3-2, and unless the Hawks won tonight, their run at the cup would be cut short.
“Good luck, don’t freak yourself out.” I smiled kissing Jonathan goodbye.
I was nervous for this game. I knew how hard it would be on Jonathan if they didn’t win, and I knew it would fall on me to piece him back together.
I met Abby, Riley and Paige, at the United Center.
“Hey,” Riley yelled from across the press box waving me over to them. She had practically ballooned at 4 months pregnant.
I sat down, and awaited puck drop.
The game zoomed by. The Blackhawks just couldn’t find the back of the net no matter how hard they tried.
With only 2 minutes left, and the Blues at a 4-0 lead, it was becoming pretty clear that this would not be our year.
As the final horn sounded, the entire United Center fell silent, as the Blues celebrated on the ice.
We walked straight to the locker room, no one said anything.
Player, after depressed player exited.
I waited on Jonathan for almost 45 minutes, until Coach Q came out.
“Hey, Kodie,” Q said, “Jonny, he’s really struggling; I think you should go in and talk to him.”
“Are you sure?” I said.
“Of course, he was asking for you.” He said patting my arm.
I walked into an empty Blackhawks locker room to see Jonathan sitting alone in his stall, fully dressed, staring at the floor.
“Jonathan,” I said sitting next to him, “it’s okay.”
He said, nothing, for the first time ever, I didn’t know what to say.
“Jonathan?” I said, he picked up his head, “Are you okay?”
“I don’t know Kode,” he said, “feels like no matter what its not good enough to win.”
“No,” I said, “You were amazing and you worked so hard, it just, it just wasn’t in your cards tonight. But someday it will be.” I leaned into him.
“Thank you.” He said leaning into me, “Losing sucks.”
“Believe me, I know.” I laughed.
I kissed him.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” I said.
“Yeah.” He said, “Let’s go home.”
…
“Hi!” I said hugging Abby as her and Patrick dropped their two girls off at our apartment.
“Kodie!” Maddy flew into my arms.
Between the loss and Timmy, I had almost forgotten our promise to babysit.
“Try not to kill one.” Sharpy laughed, slapping Jon on the back.
“Thank you so much Abby,” said, “We’ll be back by 11.”
I shut the door behind them, and we were left with Maddy and Saidie.
Saidie immediately wailed.
Jonathan’s POV:
I watched as Kodie lifted the screaming baby from her carrier, and she was immediately soothed. Kodie was such a natural mother, she was so calming, and the sexiest I had ever seen her.
I had always known I wanted to have kids with Kodie, but sooner rather than later?
