Forever Chicago

Ch. 21

“Kodie!” the girls hurled themselves onto my bed early the next morning, “It’s your wedding day!” Kylie said.

We went straight to work showering, and getting hair and makeup done, all while munching on fruit and orange juice.

Makeup on and hair done, we headed towards the church.

As we stood in a dressing room, zipping ourselves into our dresses, this was becoming more real.

I was actually getting married.

“We need the bridesmaids!” the wedding planner yelled.

“Okay,” Mrs. Toews came in the room, as my bridesmaids cleared out.

“You look stunning.” She said coming up in the mirror behind me, “But one thing is missing.”’

She pushed a gorgeous, floor length veil into my hair.

“Mrs. Toews,” I said, “It’s beautiful, are, are you sure you want me to wear it?”

“Of course sweetheart, I finally have a daughter.” She said tears forming.

“Ladies,” the wedding planner poked her head in, “It’s time.”

Taking one last look in the mirror, I picked up my flowers, and headed into the hallway.

“Kodie,” Mr. Toews said, “I know I’m not your father but since he won’t be attendance, may I
walk you down the aisle?”

“Thank you, I’d love that.” I smiled.

The music began to play, as pair after pair of bridesmaid and groomsmen walked out.

I took a deep breath as two huge, oak doors were pulled open in front of me.

Jonathan’s POV:

Holy Shit

The doors opened revealing Kodie, she looked incredible and more beautiful than I had ever seen her.

She moved slowly towards me, I couldn’t take my eyes off her, or wipe the stupid smile off my face.

“Who gives this woman to this man?” the priest said.

My Dad stuttered, “I-I do.”

Kodie’s soft hands were placed in mine, her beauty radiated off her.

“Jonathan,” the priest said, “You may now read your vows.”

I stuttered through them like an idiot. “Kodie, ever since I met you in the hospital that day, you have made me the happiest man in the world. I can’t believe how much you’ve changed my life. I’m cannot wait to spend forever with you, I love you so much, and thank you for being you.”

Kodie’s POV:
Jonathan’s vows brought tears to my eyes, but now it was my turn and I was just praying I wouldn’t mess mine up. “Jonathan, ever since you walked into the hospital 2 and a half years ago, you’ve had my heart. I cannot thank you enough for everything you’ve done for me, you and your family have shown me what it’s like to be loved. I love you.”

“Jonathan do you take Kodie to be your wife?” the priest asked.

“Yes, uh- I mean, I do.” He said.

I laughed, as the priest said, “Kodie do you take Jonathan to be your husband?”

“I do.” I said.

Both our hand trembled as we laughed at each other trying to exchange bands.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I now present to you Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Toews. Jonathan you may kiss your bride.”

Jonathan pulled me into a sweet kiss.

The church went crazy as we walked down the aisle. I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face.

After months of planning we were finally married.

Rowan’s POV:
I watched as Jonathan and Kodie took the floor for their first dance. They were so in love.

Seeing how happy Kodie was with Jonathan, made me miss my ex-boyfriend Cam. I hated myself for missing him, but at the same time maybe I didn’t miss him, but just missed having someone to hand around with me, who I thought cared about me.

I tried to wipe Cam off my mind, thinking about our fallout just made me mad. Today was about Kodie and Jonathan.

Jonathan stared into Kodie’s eyes like she was his entire world. I wanted someone to look at me that way.

“Hi.” Someone came up behind me.

I turned around to see Sidney standing behind me, “Hi.” I smiled.

“May I?” He said putting his hand out.

I smiled as he twirled me out onto the dance floor.

“So how do you know Kodie?” Sid said as we sat at a table.

“We played softball together when we were 4 all the way through college.” I said.

“Wow,” he said, “That’s a long time.”

“Yeah.” I laughed, “She’s like a sister.”

We sat there talking for hours, until Jonathan and Kodie were ready to make their exit. As I watched my lifetime best friend walk out of the brilliantly decorated reception hall, happier than ever, I couldn’t help but smile.

Kodie and Jonathan left for their honeymoon, while I headed back to the lake house to pack my stuff and head back to Boston. I didn’t feel quite ready to leave the calm and serenity of
Kodie and John’s lake house, but work awaited.

As I headed downstairs carrying two stuffed bags, Sidney met me at the bottom of the staircase.

“Let me help you with that.” He said taking them.

“Oh thank you.” I said.

We walked out to my cab, where he helped me place them in the trunk.

“So Rowan,” he said, “I know we just met, but um” he rubbed the back of his neck, “I’d really like to see you again.”

“Me too.” I smiled, blushing as we exchanged phone numbers.

“Have a safe trip.” He smiled, kissing me on the cheek.

I got into the cab, and he shut the door, and instantly a grin crossed my face.I headed towards the airport with nothing but Sidney on my mind.

It was about a two and a half hour flight from Chicago to Boston, leaving me plenty of time to daydream about Sidney and I.He was so unlike any guy I had ever met. Boston boys were typically confident, sometimes rude, but Sidney, he was so gentle and sweet, and he really understood me.

I finally made it back to Boston around 2 in the morning.

Exhausted and jet lagged I dragged my luggage off the rotating belt and slung it over my shoulder. The green line train was full of creepy people this late at night but it was the only way of getting back to my apartment. Sidney still crowded my mind.

Finally at 3:30 am, I hurled myself into my bed and fell asleep.

I awoke in the daze the next morning, as routine I picked up my phone. By this morning, I was pleasantly surprised to see a text from Sidney.

Hi beautiful, hope you had a safe trip home. Can’t wait to see you again!-Sid

Every time his face popped into my mind, I couldn’t help but smile.

Me neither! Good luck during pre- season!- Rowan

I blushed, as I fell back on my bed, as I wondered what Kodie and Jonathan were doing.

Kodie’s POV:

“Good morning Mrs. Toews.” Jonathan said as he curled his arms around me as we lie entwined together, in our gorgeous, honeymoon, condo in Bora Bora. It was gorgeous, crystal blue water surrounded our condo.

“Good morning Mr. Toews.” I smiled, kissing him.

Jonathan and I were entwined in wedded bliss for the week we would spend here. But, we preferred to spend our time lounging around the dock, and working on making little Toew’s.

Jonathan and I had agreed on trying for a baby as soon as we were married. We knew we wanted kids, so we figured, why wait?

The week was the best of my life. As our honeymoon winded down, we couldn’t wait to get
home and start our new life together.

We were abruptly snapped back to reality as soon as we stepped off our plane from paradise.

Jonathan was bombarded with news reporters and camera’s as we tried to make our way out of the airport.

“Jonathan!” they screamed chasing after us, they crowded around him shoving me to the side, and to the ground.

“Kodie!” I heard Jonathan yell, but I couldn’t see him, photographer stomped around me, blinding me with their cameras.
A cameraman stomped a foot on my stomach holding me down.

“Get the hell off her!” I heard Jonathan yelling, pushing the man off.

We sprinted to the car, driven by Patrick Kane and Paige, as they chased after us.

“Holy crap” Patrick said, “What are you the Beatles?”

“Ha ha” Jonathan glared.

What have I gotten myself into?
I thought.

We sped off to our apartment, as we tried to laugh off the event.

A few days passed, Jonathan and I were trying to balance being newlyweds while looking for a townhouse, along with trying to make a baby, as well as Jonathan’s season starting.

Life was crazy.

We were constantly running around, by mid-September we had finally found a townhouse that we loved. It was in uptown Chicago, and close enough to the hospital and the United Center for both of us.

The only problem now, was Jonathan had left for a five day road trip leaving Riley, Paige and I to pack up our apartment.

“Oh, Kode look at this!” Riley said, holding up a picture of Jonathan and I from the first year we started dating.

“Oh my gosh.” I said, “We look like babies.” Jonathan was only about 24, and I was 23 when we had first met.

As we packed up our apartment, I realized this was the first home Jonathan and I had shared together. It was full of our history, and even though our new home was bigger, and prettier, I was going to miss this place. We had our first fight here, we had our first time here, and we had formed from kids to Mr. and Mrs. Toews here, and I would never forget that.
