Forever Chicago

Ch. 25

Jonathan’s eyes got big, “Uh-okay.” He said springing up from the bed. Hearing the ruckus Mrs. Toews appeared at the door.

“What’s going on?!” she yelled shaking and umbrella clasped in her hands.

Seconds later the whole townhouse had awaken.

People flew around everywhere, “The baby’s coming!” I kept hearing yelled.

Jonathan and I sped off to the hospital trailed by a car of Rowan, Mr. and Mrs. Toews and Jon’s brother and girlfriend.

When we arrived I was whisked away into a room, Jonathan trapped at the front desk filling out forms. The contractions were stronger and more painful than before.

Time ticked down with only twenty minutes left until Christmas day.

Finally the doctor returned, Jonathan clutched my hand.

“Mrs. Toews we’re going to have you push.” He said.

11:56,:57, :58, still pushing.

:59,
“You’re doing great Mrs. Toews.”

One more push, Mrs. Toews.”

At 12:00 on Christmas day Jonathan and I heard the cries of our first daughter.

The doctor wiped her clean and placed her across my chest. My eyes filled with tears.

“Wow.” Jonathan said looking down at the little baby.

She was perfect, ten fingers, ten toes, everything we ever wanted, and she was ours.

“I love you.” Jonathan said kissing me on the forehead as we cradled our newborn baby girl.

“I love you too.” I said looking at him.

I placed the baby in his arms and watched as his eyes melted into her.

We sat that way a long time before Mrs. Toews burst through the door.

“Where’s my grandbaby?” She said flailing her arms out.

Jonathan placed the baby in her arms.

She gleamed, “What’s her name?”

“Ryan” Jon answered, “Ryan Andree”

Tears filled her eyes at the recognition that our little girl carried her name as her middle names.

“Thank you.” She gleamed.

Rowan was in shortly later.

“She’s beautiful.” She smiled.

Rowan’s POV:
I watched as Kodie sat snuggled together with her perfect little family. I wanted to have that.
Around 9 am I walked out of Kodie’s hospital room to grab gifts from the apartment. I walked into something tall, and hard as I left the room. I looked up to see a dark haired, brown eyed man staring down at me.

“Hi Rowan.” Sidney said.

“Hi.” I said, quickly brushing past him.

“Wait, can I talk to you for a sec?” he said.

I breathed heavy, I knew this talk would come.

“Look I don’t know what happened between us.” He said.

“Well you obviously didn’t think I could handle you.” I said bitchier then I had intended.

“Look, what I said that night was messed up, I know that” he said, “But I-I’m sorry I never meant to hurt you.”

“It’s a little late.” I said softly.

“I know, but, I miss you Rowan.” He said moving closer and closer.

Before I knew what was happening Sidney had me pulled into him, as he gently kissed my lips.

Part of me wanted to pull back, but a bigger part of me wanted to fall back into Sidney even harder than I had so many months ago.

As our kiss broke, I tried to find my feelings again.

“Sidney, I-I don’t know if I can do this.” I stuttered.

“Hey,” he said lifting my chin with a strong hand, “I have loved you since the first time I met you.”

It felt so good to fall back into him.

“Hey where’s-“ Kylie cut off coming out of the room, “Oh sorry.” She said slipping back inside.

We laughed.

“So,” he said, “Do you think you wanna try this again?”

“I don’t know” I said, “I mean both our lives are crazy.”

“I know, but,” he said looking down at me, “I want you in my crazy life.”

I laughed, “I want you in mine too.”

Kodie’s POV:
Kylie came back into the room with a devilish look on her face. I peeled myself away from the greatest Christmas present I would ever receive to see what she was hiding.

“What?” I laughed as she sat down.

“Sidney and Rowan.” She said, “I just saw them getting pretty close in the hallway.”

The thought made me happy. I looked back to Jonathan cradling Ryan, I hoped someday soon, Rowan could experience this amazing feeling.

Snow fell hard outside the hospital room.

This couldn’t possible of been a better Christmas.

Paige’s POV:
I watched as Kodie and Jonathan cradled their new little girl. I wanted this, I wanted this with Patrick. I ran my hands over my stomach. In 8 months I would have his baby, how would tell him?

Patrick came in seconds later.

“Hey babe.” He said kissing my cheek.

“Patrick,” I said nervously, “I have to tell you something.” I took his hand and led him into the hallway.

“What’s going on Pay?” he said turning to me.

“Patrick ,uh- I’m” I stuttered.

“Babe, you can tell me.” He said him arms around my lower back.

“Patrick I’m pregnant.” I blurted out looking down, and then nervously up at him.

It was quiet for a moment.

Then he smiled.

“That’s amazing.” He said pulling me in.

“Really?” I said.

“Yeah,” he smiled, kissing me, “We’re gonna be parents.”

I felt a huge weight lift off my shoulders, as we embraced in the hallway.

Kodie’s POV:
I watched Ryan and she lay on her back staring up at me. I loved her so much already; I couldn’t wait to get her home.

2 days later Jonathan and I drove home with our new little girl.

We arrived home mid Chicago snowstorm.

Ryan wailed at the cold as I carried her baby seat inside.

We spent the next week cuddled into our little townhouse with our new baby girl, it was one of the best weeks of my life.

Jonathan’s first game back was a home game against the Winnipeg Jets.

I dressed Ryan in a red Toew’s t shirt and black tutu. 3 weeks old and she was already a hockey baby. I slung a baby bag over my shoulder and headed into the cold Chicago night.

“There’s the newest Blackhawk addition!” Abby Sharp smiled as I walked into the press box.

“Oh, she’s beautiful!” Dayna Seabrook squealed.

The game raged on. Ryan shocked me, and she sat perched in my lap, staring down at the ice.
The Hawks fought off the Jets for two long periods, before the Jets finally struck in the third. Ryan squirmed through exhaustion as the game dragged on.

The Hawks fell to the Jets 1-0. I knew Jon would be upset but right now I had to focus on getting Ryan home and to bed.

After tucking my tired baby into her crib, I sat on the couch cuddled in with Ollie. It was nearly one am, when Jonathan finally returned home. His face was stoic and disappointed when I greeted him at the door.

“It’s okay.” I said hugging him and we sat down on the couch.

He said nothing but put his head in his hands.

“You’re beautiful.” He said turning to me as he kissed me slowly. I fell back on the couch as Jonathan’s hands moved up my thighs tugging at my yoga pants.

Pulling my thong aside he slowly began to thrust in and out. My lips grazed across his neck as Jonathan finished inside me sending me over the edge.

We fell asleep cuddled on the couch next to Ollie.

The next morning I was startled awake by Ryan’s cries. Jonathan would be leaving for a road trip to Philadelphia leaving me and Ryan alone for four days.

“Hi Ry.” I smiled as I reached her crib. She smiled up at me with her big green eyes.

I carried her into the kitchen setting her in her baby seat as I prepared a bottle.

“Hi.” Jonathan said coming in behind me.

“Hi.” I laughed as he nipped at my neck.

Ryan kicked her legs.

“Hi Ryan.” Jonathan smiled lifting her up.

I watched as he cradled the little girl within his strong arms, the sight melted my heart.

The morning zoomed by and soon enough it was time for Jonathan to go.

“I love you.” He said kissing Ryan and I before peeling himself away again. The sight was sore.

I sat down on the couch, Ryan perched against my knees. I was flipping through TV channels when my phone rang.

“So,” Paige said on one end, “Looks like there’s a Blackhawks baby boom.”

“Who now?” I laughed.

“Amanda and Bryan Bickell.”

“That’s great!” I laughed, “We can practically build a new team.”

We chatted for a few minutes about names and things before I smelt something that called for a diaper change.

Paige and I’s conversation lingered in my mind.

As I placed a clean diapered Ryan in her pack and play, I thought back to last night. I wasn’t on birth control anymore. Out of curiosity I picked a new pregnancy test out of the baby bag.

The three minutes wasn’t as torturous and I had recalled Ryan’s being. I didn’t think I would be pregnant, I probably wasn’t.

The timer rang and I was shocked to see a little pink plus fill the screen.
