Forever Chicago

Ch. 4

“Hi!” Paige squealed as she flew into Patrick’s arms.

I stood up and walked straight into our bedroom.

“Kodie,” Jonathan said behind me.

I shut the door without slamming it.

“Kodie,” Jonathan came through the door seconds later.

“Kodie, it’s not what it looks like.” He said touching my shoulder lightly.

“It looks like you really liked kissing that girl.” I said pulling away.

“No, I didn’t” he said.

“Then what is it?” I said angrily turning around to face him.

“Kodie I was drunk!” he said, “And stupid and it meant nothing and I’m sorry! I’m so sorry.”

I turned around to see Jonathan’s saddened face staring back at me.

“I’m sorry.” He breathed as he took me into his arms.

I didn’t know what to say, so I just wrapped my arms around his neck.

“I’m sorry.” He muffled into my neck.

“It’s okay,” I said, “As long as you don’t like her.”

“Of course not.” He laughed.

As we lied together in bed that night, I realized how empty I had felt without Jonathan around.

“I missed you.” I smiled up at him.

“I missed you too.” He laughed kissing my forehead.

As we fell asleep to the snow gently falling outside, I realized I did want to be with Jonathan forever.

My alarm rang early the next morning.

“I hate your job.” Jonathan groaned next to me.

I laughed and rolled in closer to him.

Eventually I made my way out the door and en route to the hospital.

Jonathan’s POV:

“How’d that go?” Kaner said as I walked into the kitchen.

“Don’t worry about it.” I smirked.

“Oh shiiit.” He laughed, “You know you guys have been together for like two years now.”

“Yeah?” I said,

“Do you think you wanna ya know?” he asked.

“Marry Kodie?” I said.

“You said it not me.”

“I mean, yeah, I know she’s the right girl for me.” I said realizing marriage looked like the next logical step for us.

Holy crap, could I be getting married?

Kodie’s POV:

I sat slumped over the front desk.

“So” Riley said sitting next to me, “How’d it go?”

I picked my head up and couldn’t help but smile.

“See!” she laughed, “I knew it.”

“I guess you might’ve been right.” I smiled.

“Hello,” Riley and I looked up to see a tall, dark haired man standing at the front desk.

“Well aren’t you two nice to look at.” He gleamed, Riley blushed, while I rolled my eyes.

“Can I help you?” I snarled.

“I have a cut here that needs stitches.” He said as he held up his left armed which was bound in red paper towels.

“Stitches are all you.” Riley said looking at me.

“Follow me please.” I said grabbing a clipboard and leading the man into a room.

“You are just beautiful.” The man sneered creepily as he sat down on the patients table.

“Please fill out this sheet.” I said, ignoring the comment and handing him a clipboard.

“Whatever you say ma ’me.” He took the clipboard into his other hand and began filling it out while I left the room to get supplies.

“Do you know that guy?” Riley asked as I passed the back of the front desk.

“No, but he’s really creepy.” I said nervously.

Returning to the room I took the man’s paperwork, and set in the front of the door.

“Hold your arm out flat please.” I asked politely.

“Of course.” He smiled staring into my blue eyes.

“So,” he said as I began to clean and stitch his wound.

“What do you say you let me take you out tonight?” he smiled.

“I say no.” I said, “I have a boyfriend.”

“Oh yeah, what’s his name?” he said abrasively.

“Jonathan.” I answered never looking up.

“Jonathan what?” he practically yelled.

I hesitated, afraid to reveal Jonathan’s identity, but this guy was relentless.

“Jonathan Toews.” I shot my glare up to me his.

“Bullshit” he said.

“It’s true actually.” I snarled jamming the needle harder into his arm.

“Ow,” he said, I dressed his arm in a white bandage, and handed him a package of discharge papers.

“Have a nice day.” I snapped, leaving the room in a hurry.

“Jeez, that guy was a freak.” Riley said as I joined her at the front desk and we watched the man storm out the front door.

“He asked me out.” I said trying to force a laugh.

“What’d you say?!” Riley smirked.

“I said no, I have a boyfriend.” I said.

“Did you tell him it’s Jonathan, what did he say?” she asked.

“I said it was Jonathan, and he got pissed and thought I was lying, it was actually kind of scary.” I said.

“Oh my gosh, well he’s gone now, so tell me how last night went?!” she said giddily.

“Well, it was kind of weird when he first got home, so we just talked and hung out and it was really just a stupid mistake, and now we’re,” I smiled, “We’re good.”

“Hmmm did he hang out…in your pants?” Riley asked.

“Don’t worry about it.” I laughed, “We have to find you a boyfriend.”

“Please.” She said, “And not someone like that guy you just stitched up.

“Come to the game tomorrow night? You can hang out with us after, there’s a ton of single guys on the team.” I asked.

“Oh my Gosh really? What do I say? What do I do? What do I wear?” She spoke a hundred miles an hour.

I laughed, “Relax just be yourself, you can come over before the game and get ready.”

“Oh my gosh, I’m nervous but excited, but nervous.” She said.

“Riley, you’ll be fine.” I laughed.

“How was work?” Jonathan asked kissing me as I came through the door.

“Good,” I said, “I invited Riley to the game tomorrow night.”

I said taking a Gatorade out of the fridge.

“Good, Smitty has thing for her.” He laughed.

“Really?” I laughed, “How does he know her?”

“Your Instagram.” He smiled.

I almost spit out the liquid laughing.

“Seriously?” I smiled.

“Hey,” Paige said coming through the door.

“Hi” I said, as she set her purse down near the door.

“Hey Kodie are you okay? Riley texted me about that weird patient you stitched up today.” She said.

Riley, Paige and I had hung out a few times since we all met in Chicago through work and boyfriends and had become pretty close friends.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” I said.

“Woah what happened?” Jonathan asked concernedly.

“Nothing just a creepy guy who needed stitches.” I said.

“Asked her out.” Paige said sitting on a stool.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Jonathan said.

“Because it didn’t mean anything, it was stupid, he was weird, don’t get jealous.” I laughed, sliding my arms around his hips.

“I mean how could I not be when he had the hottest nurse in the world.” Jonathan said kissing my forehead.

I smiled.

“Good luck.” I said kissing Jonathan as he left for his game the next night. Riley would be over in about an hour to get ready with Paige and I.

I showered quickly, put on a light coating of makeup and brushed through my hair before there was a knock at the door.

“Hey!” Riley said, as she came through the door.

“Hi!” I said.

“Okay,” I said rummaging through the closet, “So who’s jersey do you want?” I said, “It looks
like we have pretty much everyone.”

“Who’s single?” She asked.

“Okay you need Ben Smith.” I laughed handing her a black and red t-shirt.

“Hey,” Paige said knocking on the door, “We almost ready?”

“Yup,” I said.

I quickly through on a Toew’s shirt, jeans, tan riding boots, and my coat.

“Okay, I think we’re ready.” I said.

The three of us piled into Paige’s car and headed towards the United Center.

By the time we arrived in the families press box, most of the other wives had already shown up.

“Kodie!” Patrick Sharp’s daughter Madelyn came running towards me, flailing her arms out.

“Hi Maddy!” I said scooping her up.

“Hi pretties!” Sharps wife Abby said coming towards the three of us with baby Saidie on her hip.

“Hi,” I said, setting Maddy down and giving Abby a hug, “This is Riley, we work together in the hospital.”

“Hi.” Abby said, “I’m Abby, Patrick Sharp’s wife.

“Hi, nice to meet you, your girls are beautiful.” She said looking down at Maddy.

“Why thank you.” Maddy said, making all of us burst out laughing.

The puck dropped as the Hawks took on the Anaheim Ducks.

“That’s Ben.” I said, and his number swarmed up the ice.

“I can’t tell if he’s cute or not.” Riley smiled, “I like the way he plays though.”

The game flew by ending in 1-0 nothing, win, with the only goal belonging to Jonathan.

We filed down to the locker room with the rest of the wives and kids.

“Good game.” I smiled, as Jonathan kissed me.

As players filed out, Jonathan, Paige, Patrick, Riley and I decided to meet at a bar in downtown Chicago with some other players for drinks.

When we arrived, Paige and I were itching to introduce Riley and Ben.

“Just talked to him, he’s really sweet.” I said to Riley, as she nervously awaited his arrival.

“There he his.” Paige said as Ben came through the door.

“Riley this is Ben, Ben Riley and I work together.” I said.

“Hi.”
