We Are Here and Now

Fourteen

"Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming the newlyweds, Mr. And Mrs. Sidney Crosby!" The DJ announced from his setup in the corner of the dance floor.

Sidney spun CiCi around and let her lead him out onto the dance floor. Her radiant smile was all he could see and it was all he wanted to see. CiCi let Sid wrap an arm around her waist, hers resting around his neck, their fingers twined together and they stood amid flashbulbs and a soft spotlight while they waited for the DJ to cue the music.

"You're going to love the song I chose," Sid said softly. CiCi smiled adoringly at him and she waited in anticipation. She had agreed to let Sid choose their first dance song because it was one less thing she needed to stress over. She just assumed it would be some country song which was his music of choice as of late.

But the opening chords for Etta James' "At Last" began and Sidney spun CiCi around as her face displayed a look of complete surprise. She grinned at him as he drew her close again and began to sway to the beat of the classic song. CiCi rested her head against Sid's shoulder, nose nuzzled into his neck, wanting to be as close to him as possible and she could hear him softly singing along to the song.

"You're my happy spot, you know," CiCi said while Sidney continued to sing. She lifted her head and squared her body in front of his by securing both hands around his neck. Sid instinctively wrapped his around her waist and pulled her close for a kiss. When they broke apart they remained in their intimate embrace and kept their foreheads together as the song continued on.

"You are so beautiful," Sid said.

"Thank you," she replied with a seductive grin.

"Thank you for marrying me," he said back. She pressed her lips against his jawbone and ran her nose across his cheek. She rested her head against his shoulder again and he gripped her hand in his once more, holding their intertwined fingers close to his heart. And as the song started to come to an end they gave the guests one last celebratory kiss. The crowd cheered them on as the song finally ended and the DJ began to speak again.

"What a beautiful moment, you two! Next up, Cesira and her father." The opening of "My Girl" by the Temptations started. Sidney shook Joe's hand as he let go of CiCi and walked over to stand with his mom. She snaked her arm around his waist and he draped his arm across her shoulders as they stood off to the side to watch the father-daughter dance.

"I am just amazed," Trina started.

"How do you mean?" Sidney asked, peaking down at his mother.

"You've been so focused on hockey all your life that I never thought I'd see the day that you would get married."

"Really?"

"Don't get me wrong. I knew the moment I met Ci that she would be my daughter one day. Motherly instinct."

"I knew it too," Sid said with a smile. He watched CiCi and her father dance to the upbeat song and grinned when he saw her throw her head back and laugh. He wondered what was being said between the pair. "I can't wait to dance with you Mom."

"Love you baby boy," she said softly.

On the dance floor CiCi was doing everything in her power from crying, and her father was succeeding in seeing that she didn't cry too. "Seriously, kiddo. You're set for life now! You really married him for his money, you can tell me."

"Stop! You know I love him."

"He's just so different from any other guy you've dated."

"If you mean he's attentive and caring and puts my needs before his then you're absolutely right."

"You didn't sign a prenup right?"

"Daddy!" Even though she insisted, Sid wouldn't think of it anyway. He had actually gotten angry with her when she had initially suggested it.

"I'm just teasing sweetheart. I don't want you to cry because I'll cry. You're my number one; you stole that from your mother the day you were born. I just have to share my need to protect you with Sidney now." CiCi threw her arms around her father's neck and squeezed a hug.

"He's a good man," she whispered, biting back tears.

"Like I said, not like any other guy you've dated before," he said with a small smile.

"He's good to me." Joe nodded at CiCi's admission.

"And you're good to him and for him. And he makes you happy."

"Extremely happy. And he's good for me too."

"I know it."

"Thank you for making today special for us." Her father leaned down and placed a kiss to CiCi's forehead just as the song came to an end. "Love you Daddy."

"Our turn," Sid said as CiCi and her father walked off towards Diana. Sidney led Trina out onto the dance floor for their mother-son dance. As they passed by CiCi she stopped him and hugged Trina. Sid exchanged a handshake with Joe and then turned to his mom. "A Song for Mama" by Boys II Men started to play.

When the song ended Sidney walked off the dance floor with his mom and found CiCi in the middle of a laughing fit with Geno. He ventured over towards them to see what it was that was so funny.

"Sid, man. I can't do this," Geno said.

"Do what G?" He asked and smiled broadly at his wife, who still hadn't let up in her laughing fit.

"I can't talk."

"But you're talking now. Just read what you wrote dude. Do you want to read it to us now before the DJ gets you to do it for the audience?"

"No."

"What is so funny?"

"Tell me how your morning was and maybe I'll tell you why I'm laughing," CiCi said through her slowing giggles.

"You didn't, G."

"No! Care said is good. I must read to you," Geno explained. But he ran out of time and was called upon by the DJ to give his toast to the couple. Everyone found their seats, Sid and CiCi taking center stage at the edge of the dance floor, their wedding party flanking both sides. Geno met the DJ with his microphone, thanked him and turned nervously towards the crowd.

"I must to apologize, my English is not good," he began, "I just read what is wrote then."

Sid draped his arm around CiCi's chair and gave his best man an encouraging smile. CiCi leaned back against Sid and he leaned forward to whisper to her. "He's going to embarrass me, isn't he?"

"Yes. I've learned a few things about you today." Sid groaned and leaned his forehead on her shoulder. He could feel her silent laughter as her body shook against him.

"Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. I am Evgeni, or Geno, or G as Sid calls me and I am the best man," Geno remained focused on the script he wrote and had revised by the bridesmaids for grammar purposes just the night before, "And as tradition, I am here to welcome you all here and point out that the tent is only secure in ten places so an easy escape is possible. For those of you who are completely clueless on who Sidney is, like Ci was when she met him, I am here to provide some insight into the man Ci will be putting up with forever.

Firstly, I would like to say that CiCi is a stunning bride. When she began walking down the aisle I looked at Sid and he just looked stunned.

When Sid asked me to be his best man today, part of me was honored and part of me was terrified. But mostly I was laughing inwardly that he's finally admitting what we've all known all along, that I am, in fact, better than him.

Having never been a best man before I had to spend hours surfing the web to try to find exactly what my duties would be. I also came across several pictures of Anna Kournikova, but that's beside the point.

So apparently the most important thing I had to do was to make sure Sid got to the ceremony on time, looking presentable, clean-cut and sober. That wasn't a problem, he has no style, he can't grow facial hair and the man doesn't drink." Laughter erupted throughout the tent. Geno paused and broke into a grin when he was pleased with the reaction he got.

"Some of you may have been surprised by how calm and collected Sid has seemed today, he seemed to have avoided the wedding day jitters and kept insisting "I'm fine," all day. However, that is probably because none of you saw him at 10 o'clock this morning when he was lying face down on his bed in his hotel room, in nothing but his shorts and a t-shirt, with his mom rubbing his back trying to get him to eat some more scrambled eggs so that he would then get dressed. (More laughter and Sidney's face buried in CiCi's neck) Sorry dude, you know I had to mention it. Anyway, where was I?

Sid was born on August 7th, 1987. On this date in history you have the infamous Hatfield’s and McCoy’s battle, the Peace Bridge between the U.S. and Canada was dedicated, and of course nothing cool with hockey happened then because he was born in the off season. He does share his birthday with Charlize Theron, and even she stands taller than him.

I've known Sid for nearly ten years now, when his teeth were still his, and when I encountered him for the first time he insisted he would bring up the rear when we stepped on the ice. As those of you who know him know his teeth are now 75 percent fake and I managed to weasel my way onto the ice last simply by my experience and intimidating height difference alone.

When Sid first met Ci I knew there was something special happening. Having been socially awkward and not on a real date in a number of years, I was surprised when he texted me the night he met Ci to say he met the girl of his dreams. I wasn't able to meet Ci until a few months later, but when I finally did I was convinced that he would marry her.

Here we are, two years later and while it may seem like a short time to be with someone, it was not for them. These two were destined to meet and I feel are the epitome of the perfect couple. She brings out everything good in him and his game on ice has been epic since he has loosened up and developed a life outside of the rink. Ci, I'd like to thank you from the entire Penguins organization for that.

So, to wrap this up, I'd just like to say that marriage is not about finding someone you can live with, it's about finding someone you can't live without. So if everyone would like to join me in a toast to the new Mr. And Mrs. Crosby, Sid and CiCi. May your love be modern enough to survive the times and old fashioned enough to last forever.

Ladies and gentlemen, the bride and groom."

CiCi blotted her eyes with a cocktail napkin and Sid clapped with everyone else. Geno passed the microphone off to Caroline and walked over to CiCi and Sid. He fist bumped Sid and gave CiCi a kiss on her cheek before he returned to his seat next to Sid. All the while the guests applauded his toast.

Once everyone had calmed down, Caroline glanced at her piece of paper and began to launch into her speech. Except, she sounded more nervous than Geno. CiCi smiled at her and reached up to grab her hand.

"Hello everyone. My name is Caroline and I am very happy to be here this evening to celebrate the wedding of my best friend CiCi to her new husband Sidney. CiCi, you look absolutely stunning tonight. Sid is one lucky guy.

If you don't know the story, Ci and Sid met at a bar in the Southside two years ago, and it was in no way how any of us imagined Ci would meet her future husband. But no matter their unconventional start, they proved early on how incredibly perfect they are for each other. No distance could keep them apart, and even as Sid traveled all summer to train he never seemed to miss a chance to call CiCi. Heck, Sid even got himself a smartphone that first summer so he could text faster and FaceTime with Ci. They took a leap of faith in each other that fateful night and found how easy it was to love each other completely. And now CiCi and Sid, because of the trust you had in each other and in the love that you shared, you are finally able to live and love together as husband and wife, in the US and in Canada!

To the beautiful bride CiCi: we met as babies when our mothers brought us together, and I am honored to still be one of your closest friends and celebrate with you on this special day. Typically the maid of honor gives some marriage advice. I am not yet an expert on marriage, but I am an expert on CiCi. I know that Sidney will not only be your husband but your new best friend. So Sid I would like to share some insights from CiCi's very old best friend to her new best friend.

First, if you ever upset her, she really loves ice cream. And if you really upset her just take her to Hobby Lobby and let her loose.

Second, CiCi will not be afraid to knock sense into you when she feels necessary. I once said the wrong thing, actually I said a lot of wrong things before, but one time in particular she threw a pillow at me which happened to contain a textbook from her art history class. Who keeps their textbooks in their pillow cases?

Three. If you ever get tired of CiCi talking just send her out for coffee with her friends. But only if you can handle a caffeine hyped CiCi.

Fourth, CiCi is the queen of procrastination, but she seems to do her best work in the middle of the night. Sid, you could take advantage of this...

Sid you are now prepared for all that lies ahead. You have chosen a wonderful woman to be your wife and all I ask is that you take good care of her and always keep her laughing.

And CiCi thank you for being such a wonderful friend. I love your infectious laugh, open heart, and brutal honesty. Always remember that I, along with the rest of us girls will always be here to support you.

Before I finish I want to share with you part of a letter that you wrote to me on our high school graduation day. I read it again on our college graduation day, my wedding shower and will read it again in three months when I get married. "Caroline, we have been through life's ups and downs together and we are still standing strong. As the day that we move approaches, I pray that our friendship will endure forever so that one day we really will sit next to each other in rocking chairs watching our grandchildren play and reminiscing on these wonderful days of our youth." Well, CiCi, we still have a ways until grandchildren, blood or not, but tonight you are one step closer!

Please raise your glasses to CiCi and Sidney. May the happiness you have tonight only be the start of a wonderful life ahead."

CiCi stood next to Caroline and gave her friend a tight hug. "It was perfect!"

"Thank you. I love you!" Caroline gushed as she returned the hug.

"Love you too," CiCi said back while Sidney stood and waited for his turn to hug the maid of honor.

"Did I finally win your approval?" Sid asked as he embraced Caroline.

"Oh God, you've won it tenfold! Take good care of her. She's pretty damn special." Sid nodded and let go of Caroline.

The rest of the party went without incident. Everyone appeared to be having a great time with plenty of guests tearing up the dance floor, taking advantage of the cookie and candy bars, having a good time all around. CiCi was pretty certain that she danced with every person at the reception during the bridal dance. Sidney actually let loose and danced freely with the guests.

As the DJ announced the final song, Sid found CiCi with a group of wags talking animatedly with Katherine.

"Sorry to interrupt, but may I dance with my wife one last time tonight?" Sid asked.

"Oh, I suppose. Where's Kris? Geno better not be liquoring him up!" Katherine declared while Sid swooped in and took CiCi into his arms. John Legend's "All of Me" started to play and CiCi secured her arms around Sid's neck.

"Hi."

"Hey beautiful. Having fun?"

"Absolutely. Happy for the night to be ending though," she sighed and rested her head against his chest.

"Oh, but our night is just beginning my love."

"Is it now?"

"And we are not expected to be anywhere until Monday morning. So I intend on christening every room in our big old house twice over." CiCi laughed, but was pleased in their decision to fly to Hawaii on Monday and to spend their first night as a married couple in their own bed.

"Our bags and the gifts are packed?"

"And placed in the Range Rover. The guys helped."

"Then take me home Mr. Crosby," CiCi whispered, a smile splaying on her face.

"With pleasure, Mrs. Crosby," Sid echoed and sealed their night with a kiss.

******
"Why aren't you pulling into the garage?" CiCi asked when they arrived home an hour later. "We have so much stuff to haul in." She anticipated Sid’s next move and had a suspicious feeling he knew where he was going with this move.

"I don't care about that stuff. The gate is closed. The truck will be fine here in the circle for a minute. I'll get you in and then move into the garage. Now stay." Sid climbed out of the driver's side vehicle and hurried around to CiCi's door. She was quietly thanking her girlfriends for telling her to leave her wedding night negligee at home since they would be going home after the reception. She could quickly change while he pulled the car into the garage.

Sid opened CiCi's door and helped her down out of the SUV. He never let go of her as they walked up the path to the front door where he quickly unlocked it with his key. "Wait right here," he instructed then hurried into the house to disarm the alarm. CiCi finally caught on to what Sidney was planning to do, and while this was already their house in which they lived for the last year, never did he once carry her over the threshold. She felt almost giddy over this moment.

Sid came back out, leaving the door open with the foyer light on and said, "Okay, all set."

CiCi just smiled and giggled as she threw her arms around Sid's neck and let herself be swept up into his arms. Before he stepped towards the door he captured her lips with his own and squeezed her body close to him.

"Sticking to tradition?" CiCi asked when she pulled away from his lips. She smiled at her husband and giggled softly at his excited facial features.

"I'm just being a gentleman," Sid said with a matching smile as he walked through the door, but didn't release CiCi. Instead he continued through the house to the steps that lead to their room and then to the upstairs. He let CiCi stand and he backed away to look at her, standing in the middle of their bedroom, in her wedding dress, curls all over her head looking adoringly at him. "Wait right here. I'm going to move the car and lock up the house."

CiCi nodded and watched Sidney back out of the room, never breaking eye contact with her until he reached the steps. She had to move fast and when she heard the door close behind him, she rushed to the walk-in closet to get out of her dress and into the shear lace nightie that she purchased for this night.

She worked quickly, dashed into the on suite and touched up her makeup, pulled the fascinator out from her hair and mussed up the curls for a little volume. She was pleased with her appearance and finished just as she heard Sid on the steps. She moved to the bed and sat on the edge, crossing her legs and trying to be as seductive as possible.

Sid's reaction when he saw her proved that she was a success. But she couldn't help but stare at how gorgeous he looked in the gray suit pants and blue vest. His tie was long gone, his sleeves to his crisp white dress shirt were rolled up his muscular forearms and his hair was no longer perfectly gelled into place. That was brought on from a night of her hands running through it as they danced and embraced.

The thing that got to CiCi the most, the one item that turned her on, was the platinum band on his left hand. The band that he promised to keep close even though she knew he wouldn't be able to wear it constantly given his livelihood. She bit her lip as she watched him bring his left hand up to the buttons on his vest, something he never wore but she decided he needed to wear more of, and watched it sparkle in the soft glow of the bedside lamp as he worked the buttons through the button holes. She sat paralyzed as he undressed himself, no words spoken between the two. But she couldn’t wait and launched herself off the bed and into his arms.

CiCi clung to Sidney, rooted in her spot with the feeling of lust and want that had been building all night finally finding its way to the surface. Desire surged through her as she felt his lips press firmly along the skin between her neck and shoulder strap. He was leaving hot, wet kisses and was rewarded with a soft moan escaping her lips. Sid’s hands grip tightened on her waist and she could feel his lips curve into a smile along her skin. His mouth parted slightly, giving way to his teeth sinking slightly into her sensitive skin and another moan escaped her.

He clashed his lips against hers and moaned against the sweet taste, capturing her face in his hands. She sighed and melted into him, his tongue begging for entrance. When their tongues collided he moaned so deeply and she wrapped her arms around him tighter, clinging to him closer. Then suddenly he had her in the air, legs wrapped around him as he carried her back to the bed, collapsing on top of her. His weight felt divine on top of her and she quickly worked her hands to get the rest of his clothes off his body. He sunk his teeth into the supple flesh just above the bra of her teddy eliciting a gasp and CiCi moaned, “Sidney!” for the first time since he entered their room and found her. His lips crash against hers again and he lifted his torso up in order to let CiCi remove his button up.

“Too many clothes!” she groaned when he threw the shirt off to reveal an undershirt. “Why the hell do you have so many layers on?”

“Why the hell did you bother putting this little get-up on? I am about to rip it off!” He thrust against her heat to show her how hard he was for her.

“I just wanted tonight to be, you know, special,” CiCi offered quietly, her fingers running down his back.

“It’s not like this is our first time,” Sid said rashly.

“But it is as husband and wife,” CiCi said and turned her head away to hide her embarrassment. He stared down at her with wide eyes, clearly in shock for a few seconds. He hadn’t considered how special their first time should be. He simply looked down, pulled her face close to his and sealed his lips with his, agreeing silently how their first time needed to be incredible. They continue kissing, breaking apart long enough for Sid to lift his shirt over his head.

“You’re keeping this on for now,” he pointed at her lace negligee while he stood quickly to remove his pants. She admired his fit form and how hard he was for her. He ran his hands up her smooth legs and under the short nightie to remove the scrap of material passed off as her panties. “As hot as it is to see you in these, I think it’s safe to say they aren’t hiding anything. They can go.” CiCi giggled at his antics and sighed as his quickly climbed back on top of her. His hard cock pressed into her thigh.

He leaned down and kissed her slowly as he pushed inside her. He moved slowly and gently, his lips never breaking from hers. It was an overwhelming feeling of fullness and pleasure. Sidney broke his kiss, pressed his forehead against hers and said, “I love you Cesira Crosby.” She smiled and raised her lips up to kiss him. He began to move and the closeness felt familiar, yet completely new to them. It didn’t take long to reach a rhythm that brought them both to the breaking point and as CiCi fell over the edge, Sidney followed with a grunt and slowed his thrusts until he collapsed on top of her.

She welcomed his weight again and sighed in relief. “Again,” she said breathlessly. Sid giggled and rolled off of her to the side. “Give me a minute.”

She rolled on top of him, pressing her wetness against his throbbing cock. “Now, baby!”

“Let me catch my breath,” he said, but his body was disagreeing with him and he found himself enjoying the view. CiCi looked phenomenal, but he wanted to feel skin on skin. He sat up, pulling her nightie up over her head in the process. He pressed a kiss to her chest right above her heart and said, “Okay, again. Forever.”
