Don't Forget Me

Pent Up Anger

"Fuck" he breathed heavily, wiping the fog from his visor. His team was down 3-0, and that didn't seem to be changing any time soon. Every bounce went the way of his opponents; every shot went wide, every save was made, either easily or miraculously by Ryan Miller. The tension was obvious on the bench, nobody wanting to lose game one of the Stanley cup playoffs; especially to the 8th place team.

"Number 88! Holding" the ref yelled out. Patrick rolled his eyes, accepting the penalty with no argument. He got lazy, he'd admit that. The Canuck stole the puck off his stick, skating desperately out of the defensive zone. Pat, feeling the sting of a extended shift, had no desire to skate on the back check.

He sat in the penalty box, letting the feeling of losing this game sink in. Jon was here; he had to impress Jon. Jonathan Toews; the last captain; the one nobody thought would ever make it; the one who was on,y alive today thanks to Patrick. He wanted desperately to win the cup, especially from last years tragedy. His girlfriend was here also; as were his parents, and his sisters... Losing was NOT an option.

The game droned on and on, things getting worse, not better for the Hawks. The score was now 5-0, and there was a minute left to play. It had been the longest minute of Patrick's life. As the seconds ticked down, he noticed more and more fans filing out of their seats, heading for the door; they knew the outcome of the game. As the horn sounded, and just as Patrick thought to himself it couldn't get any worse, it did. The fans began to boo; and boo; and boo. He looked around at his dejected teammates who all wore the same similar expression to his own.

"I'm fucking disappointed" Coach Q came into the dressing room in a huff. "Do you guys want to be here? Huh? Do you want the cup? Because it certainly doesn't fucking feel like it" he snapped. All the players held their heads low, nobody wanting to look the coach in the eye. "Sharp?"

"I'm disappointed in our play" current captain Patrick Sharp pointed out. "The bounces just didn't-"

"It wasn't the bounces" Coach Q growled. "Practice is at 6 am sharp tomorrow morning; if you're not an hour early, you're skating extra" he stormed out of the silent room, having nothing more to say at the present moment. There was only so much yelling he could do during the course of the game, and he had already done it. During both intermissions he let his team have it; their play was inexcusable.

Nobody spoke a word. Patrick sat still at his part of the bench, eyeing the floor with copious amounts of anger. He didn't even so much as remove his helmet. Most of the guys got undressed rather quickly, escaping the heat of the media.

"You coming Pat?" Sharpie broke his concentration. He looked up, noticing the dressing room was completely open; all except for himself and Jon.

"I need a minute" he lied, feeling angrier the more people spoke to him. He had made too many bad plays; too many bad shots; and too many bad passes. He failed his team, his coaches, his trainers, and more importantly, his family and friends.

"Okay, see you tomorrow" he answered awkwardly, nodding acknowledging Jon on his way out. The two men sat in the room, silent for a moment. Patrick knew it was a matter of time before Addison and Emma walked through the door.

"We'll get 'em next time" Jon spoke up, trying to stay positive. He knew his team had played like shit tonight; and he also knew, Patrick wouldn't be up for chatting about it. He played awfully; a fact all of the fans knew. He avoided the media, dodging to the bathroom during the post game interviews. Jon knew that wouldn't look good on him, furthering the anger Patrick had.

Finally as predicted, Addison and Emma walked into the room. Addie carried Aveyah in her arms, asleep. Emma stood beside her, face twisted in an unreadable way. After a few moments of silence, Addison spoke up.

"Take a picture, it'll last longer" Addison chuckled, gaining each of their attention. They looked up, simply acknowledging her precense, before tilting their heads back down to that seemingly interesting spot on the floor beneath them. Emma looked around awkwardly, having no idea what to do in the situation. She had only experienced the wins, where the locker room was lively and talkative; where everyone would have been out celebrating at a bar by now. Addison gave her a look of empathy; this was a hard first time to experience the post game blues; especially after a blow in game one of the playoffs.

Patrick threw his on the floor beneath them.

"I- Pat I'll meet you outside" Emma blurted out. She didn't even wait for an answer; before Anyone could even blink she was out the door. Patrick looked up, gazing strongly at the door where his girlfriend just left. He swore under his breath, tossing his helmet into his bag in fury.

"Pat-"

"I'm not in the mood Addison" he snapped immediately. Jon's head shot up at the tone of his voice.

"Don't talk to her like that" he threatened his best friend. Patrick's eyes met Jon's, anger rushing through them. Patrick had had it. He was frustrated after the loss; over disappointing his family, his friends, everyone... He felt all the built up rage he had from the game come out.

"Tell her to fuck off then; she shouldn't be in here!" He snapped back furiously. Addie recoiled, shocked at the harsh words Patrick had just spoke.

"Excuse me?" Jon asked in aggravation. "What the hell did I just tell you? Don't you EVER speak to her like that" he raised his voice to better send the message. Patrick stood up, as did Jon. He threw his gloves off to the floor beside him before speaking.

"What you gonna do about it, huh?" Patrick smirked. "You're nothing compared to me; you can't skate, can't lift, can't do a goddamn thing" he hissed. It was blatantly obvious Patrick was trying to get a rise out of Jon; he was begging for a fight.

Patrick wasn't sure why, but he wanted a fight. He had desired to launch his fist into somebody's face the whole game. Without even a second thought, Patrick knew his fight would be Jon; he would deal with the consequences later.

Jon's face went white, obviously hurt by his former teammates words. He balled up his fists and launched himself towards Patrick, planting a punch to his right cheek. Patrick stumbled back in surprise, before launching himself at Jon. He jumped on top of Jon, who tried to fight back as best as he could. Aveyah had awoke at the commotion, so I took this time to set her down on the bench and try to break apart the fight.

"Patrick!" Addison yelled, trying to pry him off of Jon. "Stop this!" She shouted louder. Emma must have heard the commotion for she came bursting through the door, face fallen in surprise.

"Patrick!" Emma yelled, coming over to her aid. Patrick stood up, pushing Addison as had as he could to the side. She landed on my side, closing her eyes on impact. Patrick immediately realized what he had done. He had a bad game; so what, everybody did. He was usually good at controlling his anger; but in that moment, he couldn't. He couldn't deal with the sympathy; the words of 'encouragement'; he wanted nothing of it.

"Addison..." Patrick trailed off, trying to approach her. He needed to apologize what he had just done, immediately. He knew he didn't mean it; he didn't want to hurt her, ever. Addison shot to her feet, lip quivering, hot tears streaming uncontrollably down her face. Patrick was supposed to be her best friend; he was never supposed to hurt her.

"Stay away from me" She threatened, running towards Jon to help him to his feet. Emma ran over to help, Jon breathing heavily, blood dripping down from his lip. He shot Patrick a glare, steading himself using Addison's shoulder.

"Addie please" Patrick begged, eyes still wide. "I didn't-"

"Don't come home tonight" Jon barked; the look in his eyes told Patrick he wasn't going to take no for an answer. "Let's go" he took Addison's hand, pulling her from the room. Addison picked up Aveyah on the way out, feeling stiff with shock.

The room fell silent once more. Emma stood near the doorway, trying to understand the events that had just transpired. Even in the short length of time she had known Patrick, he never displayed that kind of anger before; ever.

"Emma..." Pat trailed off, unsure of what to say.

"I- I'll talk to you tomorrow" she blurted out, not wanting to feel the wrath of Patrick Kane on her, too. The look on Addison's face had said it all for her. She could not have possibly looked more hurt than she did after he pushed her.

"Please Emma-" he begged her, approaching her slowly. She flinched a little at his touch, thankfully going unnoticed by Patrick. "I have no where to go tonight. Please, don't hate me too" he added in a whisper. She gazed into his eyes, seeing the hurt throughout.

"Maybe you should have thought of that before you started this horseshit" Emma snapped. "I'll see you later" she added coolly. And with that, Patrick was left alone in the room once more, one single tear dripping down his perfect face. In that moment, he felt like a monster.
