The New Assistant

rolled over my bed and hit snooze. It was Tuesday September 23rd, 2014, only 2 days since the Rangers game. The guys had a game in Philly on that Thursday which was all booked so I really didn't have much to do at work.

I had a nice little condo. It was my Mom's until she got re-married and moved to Colorado with her new husband. It was pretty big for just me, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, an awesome kitchen and living space- and no stairs. I liked quiet, as soon as I got to the prudential center there were so many men screaming and yelling over each other.

I got out of my comfy warm bed and quickly made it before I got changed. I put on a gray tweed pencil skirt, a white blouse, and a burgundy sweater. I left my hair down because I guess it looked pretty okay. I threw on my make-up and grabbed a banana before heading out the door at 8 am on the spot. I didn't need to be at the prudential center until 8:45 so I had time to spare.
I got into my car and drove out of the complex and to the prudential center. Parked my car and headed in. I was so bored. I had absolutely nothing to do. I couldn't even book any more trips or anything because it was too far ahead and I already booked everything from now until January.
I turned on my computer and went on pinterest for about 45 minutes until Adam walked into the room along with Eric.

"Thank god." I murmured through the DIY section of pinterest.

"What?" Adam said on his phone while he sat in one of the two chairs across from my desk.
I logged out of pinterest and looked at them. "I was just really bored I had nothing to do. Do you guys need anything? Please need something."

"Sorry to burst your bubble Charlotte but we are fine. We gotta get to practice anyways." Eric said standing up and walking out of the room."

I sat in my office re organizing papers for the millionth time until FINALLY something happened.
"Hi are you Charlotte, the players assistant?"

I stood up from my desk and gave her a handshake, "yes that's me, what can I do for you?"

"Hi I'm April Salvador, Bryce's wife."

"Of course have a seat!" I exclaimed motioning her to sit down. "What's up?"

"Oh sorry my husband said he wasn't feeling so well so I brought him some medicine only he's at practice and I can't wait cause the kids are at daycare and I have to pick them up and-"

"It's no problem, the guys will be out within a half hour you can just leave them here with me and i'll give them to him."

"That's awesome thank you so much Charlotte!" April got up to leave and opened her mouth and closed it.

"What?" I laughed. She sat down again and quieted her voice.

"I'm gonna say this once Charlotte you're very pretty-"

"Well thank you, so are you!"

"Well, the thing is I really don't care because I trust my husband but these other wives and girlfriends might be a little jealous of you."

"What do you mean?" I asked

"Their girlfriends, you know the young guys, always think someone is out to steal their man. You might want to introduce yourself before they find out through their husbands and boyfriends. Sorry to freak you out but i've seen it before."

"Quick question before you leave?" I asked again

"Sure." April said.

"Are Adam, Jon, Eric, and Cory single?" I was about to rip them a new one if they were dating someone and then going out to clubs with me.

"I don't think so. Cory was the last one to date anyone like 4 months ago but she was crazy and they broke up. Brooke? Maybe it was Brooke? I don't know." She laughed and stood up, "Thanks again for giving the medicine to Bryce I really appreciate it."

"No problem April, i'm always here. Sadly." April got up to leave but turned around in the doorway."

"Charlotte what time are you here till?"

"Depends on the day. Probably 5:30 or around then. Why?"

"A couple of the wives are going out to dinner tonight about 3 or 4 of us. I'm sure they won't mind you coming."

"Wow really? Thanks April that's so sweet of you!"

"No problem just ask Bryce for my phone number and text me your address so I can pick you up at like 6ish okay?" April smiled.

"Perfect! Thanks April!" I giggled and she left my office. I looked at the clock. It was only 2:30. The guys were now off the ice and only had tapes and weights at 4:30. That gave them a 2 hour break in the middle to shower and eat.

Cory, in his goalie gear, came into my office and almost got stuck in the doorway.

"Hi? Cory what are you doing you are getting sweat all over the place. I'm about to spray you with febreeze."

"Sorry. The guys sent me in here to say that we are going to Smashburger in like 20 minutes if you wanna come."

"Sure that's fine. Swing by here to get me when your leaving."

Cory nodded his head sending more beads of sweat down his face. Before he left the room completely, I called him again.

"Cory! Can you send Bryce in here please?"

"Yeah sure."

A couple of minutes later, a sweaty Bryce Salvador was in my office wearing a long sleeved athletic devils shirt and some shorts.

"Hey am I in trouble or something? The whole locker room made that noise like I was going to the principles office for something bad." He laughed and took a seat.

"No, no haha. Your wife was here about 15 minutes ago. She dropped off your medicine that you left at home."

"Yes, perfect."

"Also Bryce, before you leave can you write down April's phone number? I scored an invite to a wives dinner tonight." I said excitedly

"Oh jeez. Good luck with them. They are more vicious than us sometimes. But I mean if you want into the volcano of jealousy then go right ahead." He said while writing his wives name down on a post-it and handing it to me.

"Your wife said the same thing." I laughed.

"And that's why I married her." Bryce said while walking out of the office.

Jon held the door open for me as we walked into a new smash burger 10 minutes away from the prudential center.

"Lunch on me. Get as many burgers and fries as you want." Eric declared with no one arguing back.

I decided on a regular burger with lettuce, cheese, and ketchup and some garlic fries. I put in my order and so did the rest of the gang. We sat down at a booth against a wall full of mirrors until our food was done.

"Alright guys I have a question. Like a serious one." I began while sipping my diet coke.

"What's up?" Jon asked

"Okay so Bryce's wife, April, invited me to go out to dinner with some of the wives and girlfriends tonight but she said some of them get a little jealous at times. I just don't know what to think."

"I've been on this team for a pretty long time Charlotte." Adam began, "and yeah, some of them are bitches but so are so regular girls. Most of them are nice. I'm just warning you that they may not like how you go everywhere with us when they get to see their husbands and boyfriends only some days. But go, April is totally awesome and not friends with any of the crazy ones."

"Alright I'll go. Also, Cory, can you explain Brooke?"

"Oh shiiiittt" Eric said sitting down with our food , "It's about to get good."

"Eh, she was a puck bunny. I had a thing with her when I played in Vancouver and when I got traded, I thought that we were done but now she followed me. I haven't seen her in like 4 months so I don't really know what's with that."

The rest of lunch we sat around and ate our burgers. The guys explained to me about the wives and girlfriends, which apparently are WAGS. I shot April a text saying to come at 5:30 and she responded that it's gonna be a fun night.
