Avalanche to the Heart

Avalanche to the Heart

One month later,

It was official, as Nathan was tearing it up in the NHL during his second year, having twice as many goals as his idol, Sidney Crosby, him and Lillian were a couple.

While Destiny was out pursuing the heart of Gabriel, the Captain, Lillian was only thinking about Nathan. It was interesting that both girls were drawn to such wavy-blond men, but damn were they both fine.

Lillian’s POV

Lillian thought about Nathan all day. She didn’t think it was possible for someone to fall for someone this fast but she guessed it was. She had. He had. They both had. The day could not have gone any slower, but finally it was time for the game and she drove to the Pepsi Center with Destiny so fast that she thought she was going to get a speeding ticket.

Jeremy couldn’t drive them or come this time. He had the flu and he didn’t want to spread it. The girls didn’t blame him. But Lillian couldn’t wait to see Nathan again. She always couldn’t wait to see him.

When she arrived at the Pepsi Center, it was packed with a sea of burgundy and blue. Of course, she wore her MacKinnon jersey to support them (and Nathan). She wouldn’t want to be the odd one out. And Destiny had her familiar Gabriel jersey on. Since they had met, her best friend had managed to hook up with the Captain. They were friends...or maybe more. Destiny never came out and said it yet, but I knew in a matter of time she’d tell me they were together. They hurried to their seats.

The puck dropped at 8:07 pm and the madness against Detroit began. Growing up with Nathan and hanging out with him now, both girls knew every player on the Avalanche and they knew all the nicknames too. Sure enough, Nathan scored with only 2:14 left in the first period giving Colorado the lead 1-0. In the second period, Iginla scored beautifully giving Colorado an even larger lead 2-0. And in the third, Zetterberg scored, but in the end Colorado won on the empty net by Gabriel Landeskog. They both jumped to their feet as did everyone else in the “Mile High Dome.” She didn’t know what was more exciting, them winning or that it was time for another date with the wavy blondie known as Nathan.

She texted the forward saying that she would be waiting for him outside the locker room, but he insisted that she come in, because the boys wanted to see them both again. She couldn’t really refuse since he pretty much carried her in, which Destiny trailing her.

Nathan finally put her down in the changing room where she was greeted by all the Avs. They all embraced her and Destiny and they were pretty sweaty. But both girls tried not to show that they were grossed out. It was just like back in Halifax. That’s when she noticed Gabriel staring at Destiny from his stall, but then he looked away pretending he wasn’t staring at her snowy haired friend. She sighed. He was shy, just like Destiny was. They were best friends and now it seemed like they were strangers. He hadn’t acted like that before.

When Nathan finally finished getting ready, he took Lillian to a nearby restaurant where she could tell he went very often. She bid Destiny farewell, as she meandered over to Gabriel and sat down with him. People greeted the Avalanche player like an ordinary guy that came to this restaurant a lot. It was nice not to be interrupted by fans for once. Though she loved that Nathan cared, every once in a while she had to admit it got kind of annoying and old.

“That was a nice goal today,” she complimented.

“Thanks. That one was for you.” He winked.

“Haha so excited for the playoffs yet?”

“Of course, but enough about hockey.”

The rest of the night got pretty awkward from there. Both of them tried to make it less awkward, but that just made it even more awkward. By the time Nathan dropped Lillian off at her apartment, she could tell that they both just wanted this night to end. She said goodbye and he had that cute look on his face with his hands shoved in his pockets, like he wanted to say something. Then, suddenly, he pulled her into a kiss, surprising her. His lips on hers just felt so right. The way their tongues battled for dominance made it even more passionate. When they pulled away, all she could think was wow. That kiss, made up for all the awkwardness tonight.

She climbed into bed thinking about it? Would Destiny ever find out? And speaking of the Elsa-look-alike, how was her evening with Gabriel? Ha-ha, she deserved a good evening, as did he. Gabriel and Destiny looked good together. She fell asleep with these questions stirring in her head, as well as other questions and thoughts.

The next morning, she woke up to the sound of her phone ringing.

“Hello?”

“Hey, Lilly, I was wondering, do you wanna hang out today?” It was Nathan MacKinnon.

“Uh, yeah, sure.”

“Great. How about my place at 5:00?”

“Ok. See you there.” She hung up.

After last night, she was excited yet nervous. That kiss was absolutely magical but what if there was more awkwardness to each other? No. She couldn’t think that way. Nathan was a great guy. And they were happy with each other. She couldn’t wait to see him today.

She drove to Nathan’s feeling extremely happy, not suspecting anything odd to happen. Be strong Lillian. You know you love him and can’t stay away from him! She thought. And oh, how her conscious was right.

“Nathan! Kinny! I’m here!” she called, darting up the stairs and knocking loudly on the front door.

“Oh, good. I was expecting you,” Nathan replied from the living room. “Come in, Lilly!”

Nathan’s POV

Nathan watched the girl he’d always loved walk through the front door and toward him. She was smiling largely. He eyed her up and down, as she sat down, smoothing out the pretty purple sundress that she wore.

“You look amazing.”

“As always, right?”

He nodded, unable to disguise his approval and awe of her raw beauty. “You ready for this?”

“Nathan--,” she whispered.

The Avalanche forward ignored her and pulled her in close to him instead, holding her as close as he could without pulling her off the couch. “No, don’t speak, Lilly. You don’t need to. I love you so much.”

The next thing Nathan knew, Lillian was sitting on his lap on the floor, her nose was buried in his neck. Her hair was so soft and smooth under his neck. For a moment, he took everything about her in, just in case she decided she hated him.

He took in the way she always smelled like vanilla. The way her skin was like porcelain; soft, smooth, pale. How her nose was cold against his neck. The feel of her fingers digging into his skin like she never wanted to let go. “I love you, so, so, so, so much.” He murmured into her hair.

“I love you, Nathan. Just please, don’t leave again.” With the words, his heart lifted. She needed him as much as he needed her. They were finally equal, the truth was out. He pulled her in tighter.

“I will never ever leave you again.” He’d never been so scared to lose anything in his entire life. Never ever would he ever come close to losing Lillian again. “I promise.”

“Thank you so much.”

“Anything for you, darling.”

She looked up at him and smiled. “You can just call me Lilly!”

“You’re so stubborn.”

She tapped his nose with her index finger. “And you’re too cute.”

He wrinkled his nose up. She pushed him down, backward, gently into a lying position on his back. Their lips were locked together and his hands moved in a wild, elaborate dance over the material of her dress. It was almost like they were back at Prom or Homecoming...years ago. They were that happy young couple everyone was jealous of, but this time they were older and they were more mature.

They were ready. And Lillian Kinnon wasn’t going to do it without Nathan MacKinnon by her side.

One Year Later,

Lillian Kinnon and Nathan MacKinnon lived happily as boyfriend-girlfriend. They vowed never to leave one another and to always be there. Nathan treated Lillian like a princess and she was his number one fan. He made sure to keep her happy and to keep her well stocked with his merchandise.

Her best friend Destiny ended up hooking up with Gabriel Landeskog and the two ended up having twins: a baby girl and a baby boy. The girl had gorgeous white hair like her mother, while the boy had more of the look of his dad. They lived happily together and often saw Lillian and Nathan at parties and gatherings...and of course over the summer.

And Jeremy Horton got engaged to Matt Duchene and the truth came out. Matt came out to the league, who was totally okay with it. After all, it wasn’t the messed up NFL. In the NHL, talented came first. That was always how it had been. Besides his teammates all knew about his bi-sexual - or now homosexual - feelings.

The two got married in Denver and everyone was invited to it: all the Avs, Lillian, Destiny, and the families, as well as a few other NHL players. It was a magical setting and scenario and the two men were on Cloud 9 as they read the vows, accepted them and then kissed as husband and husband.

Lillian and Nathan were happy just being boyfriend and girlfriend at the moment, but neither ruled out the possibility of going further.

And they eventually did.

The End.

I apologize tremendously for not updating this. I will be continuing this, but at the moment I'm a little stuck on it. I have that horrible shitty issue of writer's block and it sucks. I'm trying my best to get something going with this and also Awkward Intentions. I had a plan with these, but I kind of lost it at the current place of this story. Again I'm really sorry about the wait and I hope to have a new chapter up by no later than this coming Sunday. :)
