Chapter 9

Gen sat in front of her bathroom door as J.T. paced back and forth from her bed to the door. "Stop pacing you are making me dizzy." He smiled at her as he kissed the top of her head and went back to pacing. "The next couple days will be the biggest. These little shits will be the future of the NHL. I need to know which ones will be joining the Rangers. Gotta map out the competition babe." It was the morning of the second round of the 2014 NHL Entry Level Draft and the Rangers were about to make their first selection in the entire draft. "Here we go." Gen wasn't stupid, she knew these selections not only affected J.T. but also her brother. She started getting queasy. "The New York Rangers select from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds Brandon Halverson." The two of them looked at each other with a sigh of relief. The Rangers just drafted a goalie, something that had nothing to do with J.T. or Patrick. She was thrilled. And he was kind of cute, just another hot hockey player the Rangers drafted, she was staring at one of them. "Well that's good." She got up off the floor and walked over to him from behind, wrapping her arms around his broad chest. "Yeah we always need a good goalie for when Henrik leaves us. I don't even want to think about Henrik leaving us." She didn't either. Henrik Lundqvist was one of the best goalies, maybe the best goalie in the league. The Rangers weren't the Rangers without him. "When's our next pick?" She let go of him as he started to pace again.

"3rd round. I can't wait around another round! I need a beer, be right back." He excused himself from her room and she grabbed her phone. "Any Cornell new freshman get drafted yet?" She texted Cole. Cornell had a lot of drafted players, so she was just curious. "Yeah this girl named Gen Connelly, heard she has a mean slapper." She laughed, Cole was always funny. "Nah not yet. Still hope though, if their good enough for the Chel, then their good enough for me." She knew the draft was a soft spot for Cole since he hadn't gotten drafted when most of his friends including J.T. did. "Well I heard our Captain is pretty gnarly, can't wait for him to leave us this season and play in the show." She was always there to give a boost of confidence for her best friend. "Yeah he can't wait either. I am about to go to dry land training with the boys. Keep me informed if a guy gets drafted." She sent him another I will text and threw her phone on the bed. She looked up at the screen, a kid from the ECAC, the Cornell conference just got drafted. She saw that kid play last year, it was pretty awesome. "Well anything?" J.T. said coming in and sitting on her bed. "No Cornell guys and no Ranger guys yet." He nodded. She couldn't believe it was almost July, that meant they only had a month and a half together until he had to go back to the City and she to Cornell. "We're going to make this work right?" She looked into his eyes. "Where is this coming from G?!" She didn't want to be single another second, she wanted J.T. For forever, or as long as they could last. She didn't want it to end before it's expiration date. "I just don't want to lose you." She laid down in his lap as he stroked her hair. "We're going to make this work. I love you Gen. Always will." J.T. had just told he loved her. He loved her! "I love you too Jonathan Tanner Miller." She kissed him as he ran his fingers through her hair. Why did summer have to so fleeting? She wished she could stay in this moment forever. With him.
