Sure Feels Right

Chapter Eleven

A few days after Christmas, Beau started house shopping which meant me and Robert had his place to ourselves. I had my head in his lap, watching a Law and Order rerun. He ran his fingers through my hair as my eyes were threatening to close on me.
I tried concentrating on the show, but all I could think about was how great it was to be with him right now and suddenly, it was hard to breathe.
I love Robert. I love him so much it's absolutely ridiculous. He just deserves someone so much better than me. Half the time I see him, I'm crabby and just want to sleep instead of talk to him. I was that way with a majority of people, though. Rachel and Kenz were trying to plan summer weddings and I wasn't good help at all.
I wasn't depressed, I was actually really happy. I was just stressed and when I'm stressed, all I want to do is sleep.
"We need to talk," I sat up and turned to him. I willed myself not to cry and prayed that my voice would stay strong.
"Okay, what about?"
"I um- you deserve better than me. You deserve someone who will be happy to see you when you come home from a roadctrip. I love you, but I've seen the hockey girlfriends and I'm not one of them." I got up to slip on my boots and jacket. He just looked at me.
"Wha- what are you saying, Scarlett?"
"I'm saying you can do so much better than me," I told him before leaving. I practically ran to my truck, bumping into Beau on the way. I was determined not to cry until neither of them could see me, but I broke down as soon as I got in my vehicle. I can't believe I was doing this.
Robert's POV
I sat there on the couch, stunned. Did she really just break up with me? I turned my attention towards the door when Beau walked in.
"So are you gonna chase after her or nah?"
I shook my head and grabbed a set of keys before driving to Scarlett's place. Beau could be so stupid sometimes. I was still trying to think of the reason behind this by the time I got to her house. I knocked on the door and moments later Scarlett showed up with reds eyes. We stared at each other for a few minutes without saying anything.
"So are you just going to leave every time you're stressed?"
"It's not-"
"Bullshit. Bullshit, Scarlett. Do you even believe what you're saying?" She shook her head, no. The tears dripped from her chin. "Well then why are you doing this?"
"Because I'm not good enough," she cried, "I see the looks I get from girls when we are out. I don't belong with you, Robert."
I ran my fingers through my hair and tugged at the ends. "That is such a lie. Such a fucking lie." I paced around her living room. "I love you, Scarlett. I need you. Why can't you see that? I don't want one of those girls that's jealous of you. I want you. I want that idiot that falls off the table and breaks her arm. The one that looks best in just my t-shirt. The girl that is so honest it hurts. I can't sleep without you, Scarlett."
I stepped towards her and brushed a strand of hair behind her ear. She wiped the tears running down her face and looked at the ground. I gently placed my hand under her chin and tilted her head so she would look me in the eyes.
"You are the only person I want to wake up next to."
She nodded, "Okay." She whispered as she wrapped her arms around my midsection. Her hair still smelled of apples from the shower she took this morning.
"Can I have some time alone?" She looked up at me.
"Yeah, of course. Do you want me to bring over dinner?"
"Yeah," she gave a little smile, "That sounds great."
I leaned down to kiss her forehead and drove back to my own house. Beau was sprawled across the couch, playing on his phone.
"You get a house?" I threw my keys on the small table by the door and kicked off my shoes
"Yep. Lease starts when this one ends. You getting one?" He didn't look up from his phone, just kept scrolling through whatever social media site he was on.
"Yeah I've been looking at a couple small places," I looked in the fridge for a Gatorade, but we were out. Imagine that.
"Going to live with Scarlett?"
"Eventually, that's the plan."
Scarlett's POV
I sat down on the floor at the foot of my bed. I wasn't sure what I would be doing during my time alone, but I figured I should get my shit in order. Robert completely called me out but I'm glad he did.
"I could organize my closet," I said to myself, "Go through my entire closet and get rid of whatever I don't like."
I slowly sat up and opened my closet, taking out a few hangers at the time. Soon, every piece of clothing I owned was on my bed. Sans workout clothes. Those weren't going anywhere. I started making a few piles and halfway through I was bored and kind of lonely.
<< I lied, wanna go get groceries with me?
>> Be right over
I threw on a pair of sweats and grabbed a scarf. I brought the glass of water upstairs and waited for Robert by the door. I studied the Christmas decorations that were still up in our window. I would be making my roommates help take those down. They were their idea.
When his car pulled up, I stepped out into the darkness, hoping the porch light would turn on. It was only 4 but it looked like it could by 9. I sat down in the front seat and he had turned on the heated seat for me. I leaned over the console to kiss him on the cheek.
"Want to go out to eat?" He asked.
I wasn't exactly dressed for going out, but I agreed to it. He drove to Olive Garden and parked in what seemed like the farthest spot from the door.
"Goodness. Park far enough away?" Right on cue, I slipped and fell on my butt.
"Apparently I did," He laughed and helped me back up kissing my forehead before taking my hand.
There was a line when we walked in. We had to wait around twenty minutes, but we found ways to entertain ourselves. It was a pretty normal thing to get funny looks from people in public.
"Beau find a house?" I asked between bites of a breadstick. It was my third already. I probably wouldn't be able to move after we ate.
"Yeah. Seems like a nice house in a nice neighborhood. Drew moves here beginning of February. They move the first of April." He twisted some pasta around his fork and shoved it into his mouth
"What are you going to do?" I studied his face, trying to find a hint. He just shrugged.
"I think I might get an apartment. Maybe move in with one of the other guys. Get a place of my own. I haven't really thought about it."
I nodded, letting it go. If he had anything planned, he wasn't going to tell me. The lease of my current house was over in June. I had assumed that Rachel would be moving in with Brad. Taylor and Katie talked about getting an apartment together with me but nothing was ever decided.
We left the restaurant and carefully walked to the car. Robert made some joke about me breaking my other wrist. Hey, I could get a bright pink cast to match my orange one. I was too busy trying to connect my phone to the bluetooth to realize where we were going. When he parked the car, I looked up to see we weren't at the grocery store. Or my house. Or his.
Robert had walked around to my door and opened it before I could muster up the words, "What are we doing here?"
"Just follow me," He held a hand out for me to grab and walked up the stairs. He pulled a key out of his pocket that opened the door.
We walked into an open living room with a fireplace and a set of stairs. I wandered around, finding the kitchen, bathroom, and a bedroom. Robert followed me up the stairs to find an open master bedroom. He let me take it all in for a while before asking any questions.
"Do you like it?" He ran his hand though his already messy hair"
"Yeah. It's amazing. Why?" I slightly tilted my head, wondering why on Earth he had brought me here.
"Well, I need a place to live and I wanted to make sure you liked it.. Because I bought it." He smiled, not making eye contact with me.
"What?" I'm sure my jaw was on the floor. I was surpsied, to say the least.
"You know how I said that I didn't want to wake up next to anyone but you? I was serious." He finally looked at me and stepped closer.
"You- you're asking me to move in with you?"
"I don't know when your lease is up, but yeah. I want you to move in with me."
Not even twelve hours earlier, I pretty much broke up with him. Now he wants me to move in. I was speechless.
"If it's moving too fast, you don't have to." He added.
"No. No, I'd love to move in." I smiled and gently kissed him. "It won't be official until June, but I will gladly move in with you."
"Come on, let's go do something," He opened the door, "Let's go skating."
"Robert, it's freezing."
He gasped, "And you call yourself a Canadian."
"Fine. I need to go get more clothes. I completely tore apart my closet, by the way."
"So I'm guessing we're staying at my place tonight?" I nodded. It wasn't like I hadn't spent the last week at his house. He was even back from practice before I woke up.
That was definitely something I could get used to. Especially if we were the only people in the house.
