Sure Feels Right
Chapter Twelve
"Why don't you have any food in your house?" Robert whined as I walked out of the bathroom.
"Probably because it's been a few weeks since I went to the grocery store and I'm guessing the same goes for my roommates." I grabbed onto my towel, making sure it wouldn't fall off as I reached for a glass. "Let me get dressed and we can go."
He followed me downstairs, sitting on my bed as I searched for something to wear.
"Stop bending down like that," he mumbled. I turned around to see what he what he was complaining about, "Or at least put some clothes on."
I rolled my eyes, "Or you could somehow distract yourself while I change. You don't have to sit in here while I change."
"Maybe I like the show," he winked and pulled me onto his lap. He started kissing my neck, sending chills down my spine.
"Nope." I laughed and jumped to my feet. "Not today. Not right now." I corrected.
I quickly put on a pair of leggings and a sweater before slipping on a pair of boots before he could protest. Defeated, he stood up and put on his coat.
"What time do you have to be to the dinner thing?" I asked. Right on cue I fell flat on my ass. It had just started healing from the last time..
"4:30." He carefully helped me to my feet. I could tell he was fighting back a smile.
"Good. We still have loads of time."
Robert grabbed a cart while I started wandering around the grocery store. I went straight to the produce, putting a weeks worth apples into a bag heading over to the peppers next. Whenever he came shopping with me, he mainly played on his phone and pushed the cart, making comments about how long it took me to decide what I wanted to eat. We turned down one of the freezer aisles and I stopped dead in my tracks.
"Fuck me." I mumbled as I studied who was standing at the end of the aisle.
"Scar, we're in a store.."
"No. That's my ex.. The one that cheated on me. I haven't seen him for over a year." Robert stood up and I could put his hand on the small of my back. The girl he was with stared me down. She was the same one that I walked in on him fucking. I tried turning around but he had already seen me.
"Hey Scarlett, how are you?" I couldn't tell if he was trying to be genuinely nice, or just faking it.
"Just peachy," I held up my casted arm, "But hey, I'm still breathing."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Scarlett this is-"
"The girl you cheated on me with? It's great to finally meet you with clothes on." I gave her a wicked smile and she finally stopped with the 'I'm better than you' look she had smeared on her face, "This is-"
"Robert Bortuzzo, I know." He said through gritted teeth.
Back before I realized a lot of hockey players were complete pricks, they were the guys I was attracted to. Horrible, really. When you're in college, any athlete is going to act like they're God's gift to women. Especially when they were drafted to the Senators in the second round.
"Looks like you're not just going for the prospects anymore." He was out for blood now.
"No, she's got the better guys going after her now," Robert stepped in. He only had a couple inches on Corey, but something tells me Corey has seen him fight before, "Guys that won't cheat on her."
"Please. I know how guys are in the NHL. Very few are faithful."
"Cause you're one of them. Well, you will be once you actually start playing." Corey was trying to upset me, but he was really just making Robert mad.
"Oh and I'm sure you're super faithful to her when you leave town," He challenged my boyfriend. As much as I wanted to believe Robert doesn't cheat, I wouldn't be surprised if he did.
"I am. I've seen one of my good friends get hurt because my roommate couldn't keep his hands to himself. I don't know why anyone would put someone through that kind of pain. But I'm kinda glad you're an idiot," A smile spread across his face. Lord knows what he's going to say, "Because now I have Scarlett and you have a real winner."
We left them alone to be upset. I thought that blonde was going to cry. Guess shes not better than me after all.
"You know I would never cheat on you, right?" Robert wrapped his arms around my waist as I reached to put away a can of soup.
I sighed but didn't say anything. I want to say yes. But there's a part of me that knows any guy could slip up when enough alcohol is in their system.
He turned me around to face him, "Scarlett, I'm being serious. I have never thought about cheating on you."
"But the girls that hang around the team are better.." I whispered.
If I could have one thing. Just one thing. It would be self confidence.
"Prettier, maybe. Better? No. I don't know how to make you understand how amazing you are. But I'm not going to stop trying."
He leaned down to kiss me.
"Oh, Drew is in town for the dinner tonight. Can you pick her up?"
"Yeah. Of course. I'll see you at the dinner."
I checked the time. Rachel and Brad wouldn't be here for a few hours so I opted for a nap. It has been a long day and I didn't need a bunch of time to get ready. I grabbed Robert's sweatshirt and curled up in bed. This whole cold basement thing is wonderful in the summer, but I could do without it in the winter.
I woke up to a ridiculous amount of texts. It was actually just five, but from five different people. It's a rare occurence in my life. Especially lately. I replied to my mom and Drew but ignored the others. I had about 45 minutes before I needed to be ready so I quickly put on some makeup and straightened my hair before slipping into the black dress I bought for this dinner and put on a pair of bright blue pumps.
The last time I was this dressed up, I walked in to see Robert and some stick. It wasn't exactly a night I wanted to remember, but he did tell me he loved me for the first time so I guess that's a plus.
"Alright, we need to go like now." Rachel rushed in the house as I finished a glass of water. "Brad is waiting in the car."
I grabbed my clutch and a jacket. I knew I would freeze outside but I still didn't put it on. I gave Brad directions to get to Robert's house and walked to the door to get Drew.
"Dang girl, if I wasn't pregnant I'd definitely go home with you tonight." Drew's comment made me blush. I didn't realize I looked that good. "Classy yet very sexy. You pull it off well."
I was looking down at my phone, trying not to break my ankle when we walked into the building. I looked up right in time to see Beau staring at Drew and hit his roommate repeatedly until he looked on our direction.
"Dude. Look."
"Wow." I walked over to kiss his cheek without having to push myself to my toes. "I have no words."
"Well you look pretty handsome yourself."
"As much as I want to stay here and chat, we should probably do what we're supposed to. I'll come find you after, Scar."
A couple hockey players were at each table depending on how many open seats there were. Luckily, Drew knew most of the players and kept the conversation going when Malkin and Letang came to sit with us.
"Hey, did you know Scarlett is fluent in Russian?" Rachel asked as I took a bite of the chicken.
"Really?" I nodded and he started talking to me in his native tongue. He seemed happy that he had someone to talk to without worrying about getting words wrong. I, however, felt like I was going to mispronounce something and make a fool of myself.
>> All I can think about is getting you home ;)
I quickly flipped my phone over and blushed. I could see Robert smiling from a table away. Rachel sent me a knowing glance but didn't say anything. My phone buzzed again but I was a little worried about looking at it.
"Are you gonna get that or just make them wait?" Drew cocked an eyebrow. She knew exactly what was happening.
"I uh.. think I'm just going to wait to open that." My phone kept buzzing. I could only imagine what Rob was sending..
The whole table was staring at me, waiting for me to pick up my phone. I gave in and the first message I saw was from Rachel.
>> Stop sexting at the table. It's rude.
"Rachel!" I shut off my phone and shoved it in my clutch.
"It was actually Brad that sent it.." Her fiance was laughing his ass off and my cheeks were as red as a Blackhawks jersey.
I left the table to find a bathroom and hopefully calm down a little. I was resting against the sink when Robert walked in.
"Oh no. No no no no no. We are not hooking up in the bathroom." I started laughing as he made his way towards me.
"I never said anything about hooking up in the bathroom," he grabbed my hips and lifted me so that I was sitting on the sink. He pressed his lips to mine and I couldn't resist. I wanted this every bit as much as he did. I opened my mouth and tilted my head to deepen the kiss as his hand made its way up my leg and under my dress.
"Okay, we'll finish this later." He helped me off the basin and waited while I went back to my table. Hopefully they didn't notice.
When I sat back down, Geno leaned over to whisper something in Russian. "Have fun in the bathroom."
"Not enough," I laughed.
Everyone was eyeing Robert as he sat down just a few minutes after me. I'm sure they all put two and two together. Oh well. It's not like we had hot bathroom sex. Even if I wished we had.
Drew's POV
Scarlett's breathing had even out by the time she sat back down. Her and Geno were talking in Russian. Probably about where she had gone.
Beau and Robert were just a table away. Beau kept catching my eye and smiling. I couldn't wait until I got to see him every day.
>> That whole pregnancy glow thing really works for you.
I smiled and put my phone in the pocket of my dress. The four of us said goodbye to the two Penguins sitting with us and went to find tweedle dee and tweedle dum.
"Can you like not wear those shoes? You're giving me a heart attack." Beau rubbed his neck. The tie he was wearing didn't last long. It was draped on his shoulders.
"Dude, if I had a pair of those. I'd wear them absolutely everywhere. That shits expensive." Scarlett seemed offended. "I wish I had a pair."
"Yeah they were a gift." I admired the red bottoms of them with the two girls. I heard Beau mumble something about Patrick and I rolled my eyes. "Last time I checked I'm carrying your child not his so quit being a baby."
Once Robert was finished talking to one of his teammates, he came over and wrapped an arm around Scarlett's back pressing his lips to her temple. The way he looked at her, he made it seem like there was nothing else in this building.
"Hey," Scarlett's roommate nudged me, "Bennett looks at you the same way."
I guess she caught me staring but I'm glad she said something. It's good to know he still wants me even after he knocked me up. "You've got the kid wrapped around your finger."
Beau leaned down to whisper in my ear, "She's right, but I'll never admit it." He winked and finished his conversation with the Pirate that was standing next to us.
Robert and Scarlett were still in their own little world, laughing about something. They were so cute together. If they don't stay together, I'll probably have some words with Robert.
Thanks do much for the link. Beautiful gown. She's being quite the B**h about everything. So he made the wrong choice. Grow up. Not sure if want to be around her either.
