Sure Feels Right

Chapter Twenty-Three

Right now my favorite part of the house, other than the fact I was living in it with Robert and our comfortable bed, was the speaker system that went through the house. Our living room wasn't completely furnished, neither were many of the rooms but we has a sick sound system. It pretty much gave me the power to make my music heard in almost every room of the house.
Robert went out to lunch with his team so I was making myself something to eat and blasting Emblem3 throughout the house. I danced to Girl Next Door as I sang along.
"Now I'm at your door. Knock, knock, knock. Now we're on the floor, you on top, top, top."
"I thought she was a dancer. She looks like an idiot."
"Yeah, but she's my idiot."
I spun around dramatically to see Robert, Beau, Jayson, and Olli staring at me, trying not to laugh. It was then I realized that I was wearing a sports bra and a pair of really small shorts.
"We can be one body, come on let's rock, rock, rock." I started dancing again, not caring what the four guys standing in front of me thought. The song changed and I stopped when I realized what song it was, "I've always had a thing for girls that dance, when they get a little tipsy."
Robert smiled and shook his head, "And it sure feels right."
"You should really keep your day job, Scarlett."
"She sings better than Drew does." Robert defended me, but I wasn't planning on giving up my career just yet.
"Yeah that's not hard." Beau started laughing.
"Dude I'm hungry." Jay spoke up.
"I thought you were going out to eat." I sat down at the table, starting to eat the chicken I had made.
"Yeah we were, Jay didn't want to though." The three hockey players I was not engaged to sat down at the table with me and Robert leaned against the counter.
"Where's Drew?"
"She's having some Penguins moms bonding time." Ahh. I really could wait to be a part of that. I'll keep my personal bonding with a glass of wine.
"You know, I'm a little hungry too." Olli admitted. His accent was really cute, I had to admit. I cut off a piece of chicken and ate it as Jay and Olli stared at me.
"Oh. This is so good."
Robert slapped the back of my head, "Stop being mean."
"Make me." I shoved another piece of dead bird in my mouth.
"I can't in front of them."
"Gross." Beau complained, "Now that image is burned into my mind."
"You're such a child." I rolled my eyes and got up to put my plate in the dishwasher. That chicken was gone faster than I wanted it to be. I must admit, I am a damn good cook.
"Hey babe," Robert said. He got a little upset when I didn't answer. "Scarlett."
"Yo." I spun around, only to see my fiance sitting in my chair.
"Will you make lunch?"
"Yeah. Sure. Why not. Scarlett doesn't have a life so why not make lunch for her future husband and his annoying teammates?" I walked into the pantry, still complaining about having to cook for these four people that are probably going to eat everything in my house which is going to be a real problem.
I came back out with an armful of ingredients I would need for the lunch and set them out on the counter. I looked back in the fridge, hoping there were enough chicken breasts in the fridge for lunch. "Damnit. Alright, someone has to go get chicken. I nominate Beau. You can use the buddy system and go with your favorite hockey player."
They both groaned, but still left to do what I had asked. Or told, I guess.
"Go put on a shirt," Robert instructed as he started getting things ready, "And different pants."
"Why?"
"Please?"
"Fine. Start the bacon, I'll be back down in a few." I kissed him and went off to find a long sleeve shirt and a pair of running shorts.
"So what exactly are we having?" Olli asked.
"Uhh.. Chicken covered in bacon, cheese, and mushrooms. Minus the mushrooms. Oh, and rice."
"Sounds healthy." Robert laughed.
"The chicken makes it healthy, obviously. I'll start the chicken once Beau and Jay back."
"You're the best," he murmured into my messy hair, "I love you."
When they had all had started their meals, I switched my shorts for jeans and found my wallet. "I'm going shopping!"
"Where at?"
"Animal shelter. I'm getting a dog."
"Sure you are."
I drove down to the mall and wandered around for a while before ending up in Victoria's Secret. Some part of me knew I would be blowing at least $100 in here today.
"What did you get?" Robert called from the kitchen. Beau was tilting back on his chair, trying to see my bags.
"She has a pink one. Looks big too."
"It's big because I bought new sweaters smartass. Don't get your hopes up."
"I'm not. They were all just going."
I walked into the bedroom, setting my bag on the floor next to the dresser and slipped into a pair of shorts. I climbed on the bed, waiting for Robert to walk in.
"So I have a question for you."
"What is it?"
"When Kenzie was here, did she seem skinnier than she did the last time we saw her?" I watched him ruffle his hair, trying to think.
"Yeah. Kind of, I guess. Why?"
"She keeps posting pictures and sit seems like she's getting smaller again. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I don't want her to go back down that road." I started chewing on my lip, thinking of the last time I spent a week in the hospital with her. It had been almost five years, but it was still possible for it to happen again.
"She'll be fine Scarlett, I'm sure Tyler is taking care of her." He sat down next to me, letting my head rest on his arm. "What do you want to do tonight?
Usually on the nights that Robert didn't have a game, we would stay in, have a little date night type of thing. Sometimes we would go out for dinner, but it was usually us cooking and watching a movie after. The nights that Robert played in Pittsburgh, we usually went out to drink after.
"I don't care. We could pick up where we left off on our Harry Potter marathon?"
"I'll go make the popcorn." He barely pressed his lips to my forehead and left me alone in our room. I looked at all the pictures of us together. My favorite was from the time we spent together in Toronto. We were walking quite a few feet ahead of my parents, holding hands. We just looked so happy.
I guess we did in all of our pictures, but it was so early in our relationship. Before anything was official. Months before actually.
I grabbed a few blankets from the closet and walked downstairs. I laid two down, pulling the pillows from the couch onto the floor then sat down where I could see the tv.
"Really? Four blankets?"
"I'm freezing, okay?"
"Put on a sweatshirt." He handed me the popcorn and sat down beside me.
"I was actually just going to suck all your body heat, but I guess clothes work too."Robert draped his arm over my shoulder and I cuddled into his side.
"Oh, we're having dinner with Beau and Drew tomorrow because Kane is in town."
"Do you know how awkward that's going to be?"
"Just try not to make too many comments about it. I'm sure everyone is going to be pretty on edge."
I spent the entire day trying to prepare myself for the dinner. There really was only one person that could prepare me for what was going to happen. His name is Jack and he goes great with coke.
"Do I have to go?" I whined as we walked to the car.
"It'll be fine. You can come back after and sleep or whatever."
"Damn. You sold me. Now I can't turn down the offer." He rolled his eyes, ducking into the car. "And you have to deal with me for the rest of your life. Aren't you so excited? Having to deal with my sarcasm every day?"
"Well, I guess I am."
"Damn right you are."
When we got there, Drew was finishing up the food and Patrick was playing with Hudson. I had no idea where Beau was, but I didn't really care. I was pretty determined to hold the baby.
"Hand over the child, Kane." I held out my arms and he gave me the two month old Bennett child. He was adorable. Made me want to have children. But I think I'll stick with just playing with Hudson for a while.
"You can sit at the table, everything is almost ready." Drew yelled. Beau brought a few things and set them on the dining room table.
Robert and Patrick were having a conversation while I was entertaining the baby. I walked into the kitchen and saw Beau and Drew talking. They both looked so happy and so in love, it made me tear up a little.
Not really, it made me want to vomit but I figured that was Hudson's job. Or it was while until I was drunk.
"Hey, uh, I think he's hungry."
"Here, I'll take him." Beau grabbed his son from me and reached in the fridge for a bottle. It made me really happy that they don't fight as often any more. Beau said he was even thinking about proposing but didn't know when to actually pop the question. I told him it should be in the snow. Go for a walk or something like that. He said he might use my suggestion.
I had finished a beer before we actually started and realized that would not be enough. It was quite obvious that Beau still hated Kane and it just made the whole thing horrible.
"So Scarlett, how's grad school?" Patrick asked me.
"It's horrible and I question why I decided to go every day. How's everything in Chicago going? You find a girl yet?" Beau laughed and Drew shot him a dirty look.
"Everything's good. I've actually been just focusing on hockey lately."
Robert and Beau started talking, as did Drew and Patrick, leaving me alone to search for something stronger to drink. I got up and looked in the freezer for something that would mix well with whatever they had in their fridge. Good thing vodka goes great with everything. There was definitely more alcohol in my glass than there was orange juice, but I'm not complaining.
I got back and there was more tension in the room than when I had left, "What happened?"
"Beau made a comment about the taxi incident," Robert took my glass and finished its contents.
"Fuckface." I mumbled and got up to refill it.
"You love me."
"Yeah, whatever."
When I sat back down the second time, I could tell Patrick was pissed at Beau.
"Well at least I don't make out with random girls when I went to the bar with someone else." Oh shit.
"You're right. You just get drunk and beat up innocent people."
"Beau shut up," I said, "You almost faught your teammate one night because you didn't think that flirting with other girls was wrong. You are an idiot."
"Scarlett," Robert warned me.
"Okay Patrick is an idiot too."
We sat there, awkwardly laughing as the three people in front of us were arguing. Eventually, I just brought the bottle of vodka and the juice out to the table and got drunk.
"I love you." Robert looked at me with a big, goofy grin on his face. "You're beautiful."
I started giggling and hid my face in my hands. Beau looked at us like we were idiots and went back to bickering with the other sober hocket player. It only took about ten more minutes before we decided we wanted to get drunk at our own home.
Luckily, Taylor was at her boyfriend's house that wasn't too far so we were able to continue drinking. Well, I guess he kept drinking. I decided to stop due to the fact that Robert can hold his liquor better than I can and I was already pretty far gone.
"You're my favorite." Robert slurred, it was the fourth time he had told me since we were home. "I can't wait to get married. I'm sure you'll look amazing. You always do."
I wrapped my arms around his midsection and listened to his heart beat, "Being away from you sucks."
"I know baby, I know."
