Sure Feels Right

Chapter Thirty

The month before the wedding was hell. Literal hell. We were in Pittsburgh until almost June. That would have been fine, but we had so much to do in Vancouver. I would have asked for help, but I wanted to be there to make sure everything was fine.
"Scar, I can do whatever you need me to. I'll put you on facetime so that you can be there too." Lilly tried calming me down, but it was no use.
"No. I appreciate it, I just need to be there." I started to cry from all the little things that I needed to get done. Robert walked in and saw the state I was in.
He dropped his bag and walked over to me, taking the phone out of my hand, "Lilly, it was a long day for both of us. We're going to have sex now. Okay, bye." He tossed my phone on the couch.
"I'm not in the mood."
"Then we'll take a nap. You just need a break. We'll be in Vancouver tomorrow night, just take a nap with me before I go out." He pulled me up the stairs and threw a pair of shorts at me. Apparently I was going to sleep whether I liked it or not.
I had completely forgotten it was his bachelor party tonight, but I wasn't too worried. He would probably just get really drunk and call me like the last five times he went out with all the guys.
"I love you, now go to sleep." He held me to his chest and slowly fell asleep.
A few hours later I was rudely awakened and I was not happy about it.
"What the fuck was that." I shot up and pushed wet hair out of my face.
"Robert is late." Beau laughed
"You're a prick, Bennett."
"So I've heard." He obviously didn't care about my insults anymore. He has heard them quite a lot.. "Drew wants to know if you want to go to dinner since you'll both be alone tonight."
"Uh, yeah. Maybe after I dry off." I got up and stepped into the closet, stripping off the wet shirt and putting on a dry one.
Across the room, Robert was stepping into a pair of jeans as he talked to some of his teammates. "Can you grab me a shirt?" He asked, walking to the closet.
"Yeah, what do you want?"
"I don't really care."
"Alright." I threw him a plain blue shirt and a quartzip to go over it. "Have fun," I called over my shoulder as he left the room.
I called up Drew, asking her where we should meet for dinner. Knowing her, it would be really good food. She knew the best places to eat.
"So are you excited? What is it? A few weeks?"
"Yeah. It's really exciting, just really stressful. It'll be nice to get to Vancouver so I can start helping with everything." I took another bite of the fajita I had made. This food would never be as good as the stuff you get in Mexico, but it was pretty damn close.
"Are you going to make Borts shave?"
"No. He made that decision on his own. I told him I didn't care because I really don't."
"You are probably the most laid back bride I've met. What's your secret?"
"Ganja." I casually put out there, making her almost spit out her water. "Kidding. Well, kinda."
She shook her head and went back to eating.
"Have you set a date yet?"
"Yeah. We decided on a weekend in January." A winter wedding would be hard. Then again, they wouldn't be able to go on a long honeymoon anyway because of Hudson.
It was barely eleven when I got my first call from Robert, "Hey Scarlett." I could hear a few guys talking in the background, but I couldn't tell who they were. Must be going to the next bar.
"Hi Robert."
"You should come out with us, it'll be fun." He slurred. Someone in the vehicle told him to leave me alone.
"It's your bachelor party, Rob. Go have fun." I poured myself another glass of wine, almost finishing the bottle.
"But it's more fun with you."
"Be safe and have fun. I'll see you in the morning." I set my phone down on the counter and walked down to switch out the laundry I had been doing. Neither of us had been very productive lately, especially not with house work.
I sat down in the living toom, turning on netflix and attempting to find something to watch. You can never go wrong with Grey's Anatomy, right? I had almost fallen asleep when I got the second call somewhere close to one.
"How's my beautiful fiancee?" His words were even more slurred than before. The amount of alcohol that takes is absolutely ridiculous, unless he was drinking straight liquor. Which, he didn't always do. He was kind of a little wimp when it comes to pure alcohol.
"I was going to sleep, but apparently you wanted to talk."
"I'm sorry. I woke you, didn't I?"
"No, no. I was awake." Kind of. But I liked talking to him, sober or not. Not that I was completely dry at the current time.
"What time do we leave tomorrow?"
"Uhh.. Around noon? I'm not sure. Just be home before ten."
"Geno is actually bringing me home now."
"Oh, okay. I'll unlock the door." I put my glass in the sink, heading to the front door to make sure Robert could get in. He would most likely call me anyway.
Getting up the next morning was rough for the both of us. I didn't get near enough sleep and he was, well, hungover. He threw the last few pieces of clothing into the suitcases and brought them to the car. Because we were running late, I threw a bunch of fruit into the blender and made smoothies. A little food is better than no food, right? I would worry about dishes but Drew had to come take grab Stanley before her and Beau left for California and then Vancouver.
"What did you put in this?" Robert took a drink, and then another.
"A lot of random stuff."
"It's really good."
"I wish I knew what was in it. I'd make it more often."
Security went slower than usual. I didn't understand why. Most schools were still in session and it's not like there was a major holiday, especially on a Thursday.
"Over this." I complained as I buried my face in Robert's chest. "So over traveling."
"We'll be in Vancouver for a while, so you won't have to deal with airports."
"Yeah, then I have to deal with customs going to Europe." Robert planned the entire honeymoon. He said that he wanted to be more involved in our wedding than he already was so I have him that. Apparently he really wanted to go to Ireland and England. I wasn't going to complain.
"You have a while to unwind." Yeah, yeah. Whatever.
After one very long day, we were in Vancouver getting picked up by my parents and sister. It was a relief to see them for the first time in months.
"Why don't we go get food?" My mom offered. "I'll tell you all about the schedule for the next few weeks."
"At least you're on top of this cause I'm not." We all squished in my mom's car. Not sure why they didn't bring the suv, poor Robert's legs needed more room..
"So you have your bridal shower on Saturday. Kenzie said your bachelorette party is next Friday." Glad she's helping out. My maid of honor didn't really seem to be my maid of honor lately.
"Wait, Drew isn't going to be in town yet."
"Oh, her and Beau are flying up with Stanley and leaving the day after the wedding." Robert told me. I nodded, a little confused but that's nothing new as of lately.
"The rehearsal dinner is at our house the Friday after and then there's the wedding that Saturday. In between then you have the meeting with the dj, final menu meeting with the caterer, we're going to decorate on that Thursday before, and photos Friday or Saturday morning depending on what you wanted, Scarlett."
"Wait, what photos?" Robert looked at me confused.
"Special photos. You'll find out later."
"Oh and dad has a surprise for you." Lilly informed me.
"Both of you actually. Robert gets his tonight, Scar gets hers at the wedding."
"That is so not fair!" I pouted, slumping into my seat. Robert smiled and poked his elbow into my side.
"Suck to be you doesn't it."
"It'll be worth the wait, I promise." My dad told me. I knew it would, but that didn't mean I wanted to wait. Marrying Robert was worth the wait but I still wanted it to happen sooner.
Later that night, my dad took Robert down to the room where he kept all his hockey stuff. Canucks gear, to be more specific. I wasn't supposed to go, but Robert wanted me to. It felt weird because I was pretty sure this was supposed to be their bonding time, but my dad said it was fine.
Well, of course he did. He loves me. I'm his favorite. Why wouldn't he want me there?
I was the last one to walk into the room, and I was somewhat glad I was. Right between the Rypien and Bieksa jerseys that my dad had signed for me, was Robert's jersey from this past season and the WBS one on the other side of the room. My mom had asked for it, but I thought it was something for the wedding. I never expected this to happen.
"My three favorite players." I whispered, hanging onto Robert's side.
"Scarlett will vouch for this, but no other teams gear has been in this room. It's not allowed, but now it's only Penguins and Canucks."
"Wow." Robert stared at the wall in front of us. I turned around, noticing pictures of me and Robert were hung up around the room, including one from the game I went to with my father. I'm very attractive when I'm yelling. "This means a lot."
I knew my dad loved Robert, but I didn't thought he would do something like this. I mean, there are times when I thought my dad loved this place more than he loved me.
"Thank you." Robert said after a long silence. I was still looking at all the pictures, remembering when each one was taken. Like the first game I went to and the first game we took Kenzie to. I stood there trying not to cry while they both hugged it out.
In three weeks, I would no longer be 'daddy's little girl' and I'm not sure I liked that.
I hugged my father, not caring that I was bawling for what seemed like no reason. But after that, he left me and Robert alone.
"This is amazing."
"He took down his Sedin jerseys to put those up."
"He didn't have to."
"He wanted to. Besides, those are probably hung up somewhere else in this house now."
"Are you just attracted to the fighters?" He draped his arm over my shoulder.
"Apparently. I can remember first seeing Ryp play. It was amazing. He did a lot for the hospital Kenzie was in too. Knew my father by name. Bawled my eyes out when my family broke the news to me. Bieksa remembers me. Never knows my name though." I laughed and wiped my eyes.
"I love you."
"I know."
My mom got me a dress for the bridal shower. It was a bright blue maxi dress that unfortunately drug on the ground. She handed me a pair of Lilly's heels and told me to put them on.
"I can't walk in these." I told her, shoving my feet in the bright pink heels that were handed to me. They looked really cool, but I wasn't a fan of the height. "This is only the bridal shower. I don't need stipper heels."
"They are not stripper heels!" Lilly yelled, shoving an earring in one of the many piercings she had.
"My daughter is not wearing stripper heels." Robert started laughing at the three of us. "Robert and I will be here, having some quality time together."
"Oh dear. That's exactly what I want. My fiance to start making jokes like my dad." I stood up, stumbling forward. "I'm not even drunk and I'm going to break a bone. Awesome."
I ended up being late to my own bridal shower thanks to my sister and the fact that I could not walk in these heels. There were a lot of people I hadn't seen since I was here visiting Kenzie. All my bridesmaids and a lot of my family members were here.
I'm not even going to lie, the best part about bridal showers was the lingerie. It was slightly awkward with my grandma there, but she tells some dirty jokes so I wasn't so worried. It was all really cute stuff too.
I had been in Vancouver almost three days and it felt like mere hours. These next few weeks were going to fly by.
