the interview with UPMC went pretty well. No, actually it went great! They liked abby a lot; therefore, she got hired right then and there. “so, we need your sizes to order your scrubs and once they come in, we’ll call you to set up a week of orientation on the unit with one of our senior ER staff nurses. it’s something we put every new employee through once their hired to that position.” The ER nurse supervisor, Kristie explained. Kristie was one of the three nursing supervisors for the emergency department at UPMC. She has been a nurse for almost 40 years, most of them working in either the ER or ICU. She has a lot of knowledge and experience working with critical care patients; something i hope to have in the years to come. “then after the week of orientation, i will then look over the comments your mentor wrote on your review sheet and I’ll decide where you go from there.” she added, abby nodded that she understood. by this time, the documents/forms were signed and filled out; abby said her thank yous, and byes as she shook everyone’s hand.
it was five when abby had gotten done, so she decided to go to the rink and skate for a few hours before she went home. abby pulled into the back parking lot at the arena and saw sid’s vehicle, she ignored it and continued walking. when she arrived at the back entrance, she scanned her ID badge and went straight to the women’s private bathroom were she had kept her equipment from the night before. this bathroom was always locked; the only people who had a key for it was abby and the female cleaning staff. abby quickly changed in her practice gear and skates; she saw sid shooting pucks at the net when she stepped on the ice, hoping he wouldn’t notice. but, it was too late. “hey!” he yelled skating up to abby. “hi.” She managed to get out, not wanting to make conversation. “so, you gonna accept my one on one challenge or is little prissy pants scared?” sid asked. abby skated over to him and now they were face to face, “number one, i am NOT prissy pants and two, i’m not scared. Let me just let you know, that i could kick your ass!” she spat at him, now with a serious facial expression on her face. “i highly doubt that.” Sid smirked. this so-called NHL superstar was cocky and really pissing abby off; she wanted nothing more than to prove him wrong. and, that is actually what she did. “well, i guess i won’t be getting that dinner.” Sid yelled to abby as she skated off the ice. “Larry’s. tomorrow, 7pm. be there.” abby replied and a smile came across his face. abby really didn’t want to have to see him again, let alone have dinner with him but she figured that this was the only way that would get him to leave her alone. “i will!” abby shook her head and made her way back to the bathroom to change. what am i getting myself into? She thought. abby had won the one on ones with sid fair and square; she could have had him stop bothering her, since that is what he was gonna have to do if she won, but she just decided to give him a chance.
it was 9 o’ clock by the time abby arrived home, her parents were in the living room; her dad was watching ESPN and the highlights of tonights games while her mom was reading. the TV showed the canucks 3-1 win against boston. Kesler with a goal and the Sedin brothers with the other two. the post-game interview with Henrik Sedin came on, which caused abby to let out a few tears. Not letting her parents noticed, she went upstairs and texted Henrik back from earlier.

(abby) hej! Good game tonight! i’m proud of you boys! :)

abby knew some Swedish words from Henrik teaching her. she locked her phone, sat it on the nightstand next to her bed and drifted off to sleep. the next morning abby awoke to a big bang coming from downstairs. “what the fuck…?” She mumbled as she got out of bed and threw a pair of clothes on.
