She's Only 17.
Two Sails Away
For the next two weeks, Jamie and Rylee only separated from each other for practice or work. Since it's summer, Rylee has a part time job at the rink in Frisco. Jamie made frequent excuses to go to the concessions counter to see her. Tyler and Jordie would roll their eyes, knowingly. Together, Jamie and Rylee had explored the majority of restaurants in Dallas and the surrounding suburbs. Since Tyler is a new house owner and his new abode has a fantastically sized pool, The group of Tyler, Jamie, Rylee, Jordie, Jordie's long-time girlfriend Jessica, and Tyler's flavor of the week were poolside almost every night.
The only thing that complicates things between Jamie and Rylee is trying to be as platonic as physically possible until Rylee's birthday. Jamie caught himself being very couple-y with her. Always touching her, whispering things in her ear, and even the way he looks at her emanates a couple. Today is a rare day where Jamie and Rylee aren't together. The boys are heading down to Forth Worth for training camp the next day, and Tyler and Jamie are chowing down before getting read for camp.
Through a mouthful of food, Tyler says, "Listen, I know you like her and the whole 'friends' thing is just for the time being but you need to be more careful. We all see the way you look at her. I'm not trying to be an ass, but I don't want things to get squashed because you can't handle yourself."
Jamie nods and takes a swig from his water bottle, "No, you're right. It's just really hard for me to control myself with her and I've never had this problem before." Jamie shovels a bite of rice in his mouth and thinks about the other day when he took Rylee to Chipotle. She loves it there and had accidentally gotten a huge glob of sour cream on her cheek. He hadn't been able to help himself, and he had reached over and wiped it away.
"Well, I honestly think being in Fort Worth for a few days really isn't bad for you two. You both need to make sure to have other friends to keep things on the down low." Tyler says, he stands and takes his empty plate over to the sink.
Jamie finishes his plate and takes it over to Tyler. "I'm ready for camp." He sighs. Jamie hates the off season more than anything, and since he had a taste of playoffs last year, he's ready for more. "You and me both." Tyler says, rinsing their plates. "Can I at least see her before we leave?" Tyler chuckles, "Damn, Chubbs, you've got it bad."
Rylee sighs as she watches a kid spill nacho cheese all over the lobby floor. She looks over at Becky, the girl who is supposed to be manning the counter with her, and she has her face in her phone. "Hold down the fort for a minute?" She asks, heading towards the cleaning supply closet. "Mhmm," Becky mumbles, not even looking up. Rylee finds the mop and heads towards the evil, yellow puddle. She begins to mop up the mess and she feels a pair of arms sneak around her waist. At first she thinks it's Jamie, then she looks down and sees no tattoos. She quickly rips herself from the arms and spins around. This twerp that plays for the Jr. team is grinning at her. "What the hell, Sam?" Rylee snaps. "Just thought I'd come say 'hi' to my favorite girl."
Rylee narrows her eyes at him. "One: I'm definitely not your girl. Two: I don't think there are any girls dumb enough to be 'your girl'; and three, if you ever do that again I'll chop your balls off."
She hears a snort from behind her. Rylee turns to see Tyler leaning against the glass door. "Not that she wouldn't chop your balls off, because I believe she would, but you certainly don't want to mess with her when her boyfriend is on the premises." Sam's eyes widened and puts his hands up. "I didn't know she was yours, man." "She's not, now get out of here." Tyler jerks his head towards the doors. The kid hurries out and Tyler grins at Rylee. "'Chop your balls off'? Nice one."
Rylee smacks him. "What if he'd asked who my boyfriend was, huh?"
Tyler shrugs his shoulders, "I would've told him: Jamie."
"But-"
"Oh, stop, you may not be 'official' but you don't want to be with anyone else and he certainly doesn't." Tyler states.
"Is he here?" Rylee smiles hopefully. "Yeah, he wanted to say bye before we leave tomorrow." Tyler picks at his nail. "Well, where is he, you dork?" Rylee laughs.
"I'm right here." Jamie's cool breath tickles her ear and Rylee feels his strong, muscular arms slide around her, tight and protective. "Hi," she giggles and turns in his arms. "Public, you two, you're in public. Go in the empty room over there." Tyler rolls his eyes. Jamie smiles and leads her to the small office space. He closes the door and pulls her into a tight hug. Rylee places tender pecks on his collar bone. Jamie pulls her up to his mouth and presses his lips softly to hers. They pull away and Rylee frowns, "We suck at being friends." Jamie laughs softly and says, "I know, I can't help myself with you. My self control goes to shit."
They hug tightly one last time before exiting the room. "I'll text you." Jamie smiles at her. "You better," Rylee grins. She walks over to Tyler and gives him a hug. "See ya later, Segs." Tyler hugs her back, "See ya, Ry." They walk out the doors and Rylee is still on the clock.
She puts away the mop and walks back behind the counter. Becky's eyes are still glued to her phone. "Anything exciting happen?" Rylee asks. "Huhhm," Becky grunts. "Cool," Rylee sighs.
