Patrick walking into the dressing room like he’s the king of the world. Kennedy is back in Chicago safe and sound. She got her job back in Michigan Avenue magazine and the season starts. When he reach to his stall it was just a normal day for them. Patrick was almost getting ready when Addison came in.
“Pat.” When he looked up he was shock that she was here.
“Does Jon know that you’re here?"
“Yes he does because my leave isn’t till your long trip in Nov. But I wanted to talk to you about Kennedy’s birthday. Do you have any ideas?”
"I was thinking of doing a surprise party for her and have it at her favorite restaurant. Since it’s after the Nashville game I will just tell her that we can just go on a date night. She won’t know it."
“That’s a great idea Patrick. I’ll plan it so then she won’t know it."
“Thanks Addison."

After the practice Patrick went back home and sees that Kennedy was on the phone. She mouth out the word dad. Kennedy doesn’t talk about her dad a lot. He doesn’t know if she’s close with her dad like him with his. Watching TV Kennedy was done talking to her dad and sat down next to Patrick.
“So how’s your dad?"
“He’s doing ok, he think he’s sick and I’m trying to get him to see a doctor."
“So do you want to have date night?"
“Sure, I would love that."
It was getting closer to leave for their date night. Patrick was walking into their bathroom and sees Kennedy putting her make up on, he knew that there was somethingwrong with Kennedy.
“Are you thinking about your dad?” Kennedy nodded her head. He lean on the counter.
“I haven’t seen or talk to my mother since I moved down here. I’m really close to my dad like you."
“I’m here now and you have my family. There are days when I love my family and then those days when I want to be an only child. Come on you look amazing by the way.” Patrick kiss her cheek.

At the dinner table it was quiet for a moment. Patrick was looking at Kennedy while Kennedy was looking at her wine glass.
“I know that your birthday is coming up.”
“So?” Kennedy looked up from her wine glass.
"I want to know what you want to do on your birthday."
“I haven’t though of anything to do for my birthday."
“What do you normally for your birthday?"
“Well when Addison and I do for my birthday is just order a large pizza and rent movies. Then go out to the clubs. To bad we can’t do that anymore."
“You don’t have to stop that because of that. You forgot that there’s someone in this room that loves you and will take Addison’s place. Take you out shopping for an amazing outfit and I want to show everyone how amazing you are.” Kennedy looked around to find someone.
“Oh you mean you, I though it was Theo James.” Patrick rolled his eyes. When they got back to their apartment they both knew that Patrick has another day off and Kennedy knows that she won’t be going into work. They were sitting in the living room just flipping channels and couldn’t find anything to watch.
“You know that I don't really know you at all.” Patrick sets down the remote.
“What do you mean?"
“I mean you know me but I never met Kennedy before she moved to Chicago.”
“What do you want to know?"
“I want to know the little things like, what’s your parent’s names?"
“Brent and Kate."
“Are they still together?"
“No they split when I was a freshman in college. I was kinda of glad because my dad was so miserable with the marriage. My mother wasn’t helping the marriage that much and I will get into arguments with her about it. Then I found out that she was cheating on my dad with other guys at her work. It’s just sad that she would do this to my dad. He never did anything wrong in the family at all. Shes loves to control our family a lot that she wanted control my life. She already pick out my husband when I get out of college. Then she wanted me to stay in Thunder Bay and have his kids. Be a stay at home mom and I didn’t want to do that. So when I found out about the divorce I told her I don’t want her in my life for the rest of my life. I hope I don’t be like her when I have kids or when I get married." They talk about what Kennedy favorite things when they looked at the clock and it was close to 2 in the morning.
“Man our bed is calling my name."
“I am with you.” Once they were in bed Patrick couldn’t take the smile off of his face.
“What’s that look for?” Kennedy did the same look on her face.
“I’m so happy that you came back, there’s not a day of how much I missed you. I love you so much Kennedy."
“I love you to Patrick."

Today was Kennedy’s birthday she is now 27 years old. 3 more years till she hits 30 she couldn’t believe how time flies. She was laying in bed thinking of all the great things in her life. Kennedy didn’t see that Patrick wasn’t in bed. Then her phone beep saying that she has a couple of texts this morning. Grabbing her phone she got a couple of happy birthday texts from Addison, some of the Blackhawks team mates and so course Matt. Once she put her phone back on the bed side table there was a small note that she didn’t see before.
“Dear Kennedy, Happy Birthday and I have everything plan tonight after we play against Nashville. You have the day off from work thanks to me. There’s a place that I want you to go and pick out your outfit to our date night. That’s a hint and nothing else I’m going to tell you. There’s champagne in the frig and all of your favorite bath stuff next to the bathtub. I just want you to relax in your birthday and not to worry about anything today. You need this more than me. While you are reading this I’m at morning skate and hoping there’s room for me in the bathtub when I get home. I love you more than hockey right now.

Kennedy wanted to keep this letter for a long time. She put in side her bedside table and headed into the kitchen to get the champagne. She was getting everything ready when she could hear the front door close. Walking into the living room in just her robe Patrick was walking to their bedroom. Patrick’s face grew 2x wider than normal.
“Happy birthday.” Patrick gave her the best kiss that any women wanted from their man.
“Have you started on your bath yet?"
“Just filling up the water right now.” Kennedy grabs Patrick’s hand and headed over to the bathroom. As they sat in the bathtub.
“So where’s the place that you are sending me today?"
“You are going to the mall to get your outfit tonight. It’s part of my birthday gift."
“This is just to much Patrick you didn’t have to do this."
“I wanted to.” Kennedy nodded her head and just relax with Patrick.
“How was practice?"
“It was good. I just hope that we beat Nashville because Addison couldn’t stop talking about how Nashville is so great this year."
“You’ll be them tonight, I can feel it."
When Patrick got Kennedy out of the house and Patrick needed to text Addison to make sure that everything for tonight is ready. Addison quickly text him back saying that the party is ready for her.
After the great OT win against Nashville. Kennedy was waiting for Patrick to finish up and it was getting annoyed for Kennedy because he’s taking more time that he dose after a win. Addison had to leave early because she was tried and needed to get some sleep. When he came out of the dressing room he act like he tried his best to hurry up.
“Sorry about that Jon and Brent wanted me talk to me about something. Where’s Addison?"
“She left early because she was getting tired.” Patrick nodded his head and they both went to his car. When they walked into their private room everyone scaredsurprise at Kennedy. She was in shock of how Patrick would do this for her. Kennedy went to everyone to tell them thank you for coming and then she spotted her dad.
"Daddy!"She ran up to him.
“I thought that you couldn’t come down to Chicago?"
“Addison wanted to keep this as a secret. Your hair Kennedy, it’s amazing on you.” She turn around and there was Addison feeling just fine.
“Thank you Addison for doing this."
“Don’t thank me this was all Patrick’s idea even bringing your dad down here.” She couldn’t believe that Patrick would do this. Now she knows how much Patrick loves her. When Patrick walked over to the group he was so happy of how the party to out to be.
“Dad this is Patrick, Patrick this is my dad.” The both shook their hands.
“Nice to met you Mr. Blackwood."
“Please call me Brent. Now I can put a face with the name.” The group talked a little when the music started to play. Patrick asks Kennedy for a dance. It was a slow song but it didn’t matter for them.
“Thank you so much Patrick. This is just to much for me."
“You’re welcome and I think this isn’t to much for you.” Their forehead touch one another and just happy to be with each other.
“I love you and Happy birthday Kennedy."
“I love you to."


In the morning Addison and her farther were going to have breakfast to just talk. It’s been a long time since they had breakfast just them. It was a beautiful morning to be in October in Chicago. When Kennedy found the restaurant her farther was waiting at the table that he was sitting in. As they talk a little more about the party she could take the smile off of her face when her dad said that he really like Patrick.
“I talk to him for a couple of minutes. He’s a prefect guy for you Kennedy and I’m glad that you found each other."
“Thank you dad that means so much to me. Can’t you believe about Addison thou?"
“I know going to be a mom with twins. I though you will be the first one to get knocked up."
“Daddy!” She rolled her eyes. It was getting close to the end of their breakfast before her dad needs to leave. Kennedy could see that there was something wrong with her farther.
“Dad is there something wrong?” He place in napkin on the table and played the rim of his water glass.
“I have news to tell you and it’s kinda bad."
“Dad what’s wrong?"
“I’m really sick and I mean really sick. I told this to Addison and she knew that you needed to see me before anything more happens to me."
“Dad you are scaring me, what’s wrong?” she asks again.
“I have a lung cancer.” Kennedy couldn’t breath anymore. Her dad is dying in front of her and there’s nothing that she could have done to stop this. She lean on her chair and couldn’t move at all.
“So I’m staying longer here in Chicago to get another doctor’s ideas to see if they can help me here instead of Thunder Bay."
“Does Mom know about this?"
“Yes she does but I told her not to worry we both made our life differently after we split. I’m sorry to tell you this after your birthday."
“No you’re fine I’m glad that you told me because dad.” She grabbed his hand.
“I’ll be there helping you fight this no matter what time, day or were I am. I will be there because that’s how much I love you. You and Patrick help me become who I am today.” There were tears coming down both of their cheeks.
“Thank you Kennedy, now we need to get going. I’m going to see a doctor to and I don’t need you to come because we are going to just talk.” Kennedy nodded her, both got up from the table and headed outside.
“Call me after your doc visit then.”

When Kennedy walked into the apartment she was now looking for Patrick.
“Patrick?"
“Bedroom.” When she got to their bedroom, it looked like Patrick just finish taking a shower and putting dry clothes on.
“How was breakfast?” It didn’t take that long for Kennedy to start to cry. Patrick wrapped his arms around Kennedy and they sat on the bed.
“Honey, what’s wrong?"
“Dad told me at breakfast that he was dying of lung cancer.” Patrick didn’t say anything but just hold her of a long time.
