Just Say Yes

Today was the day Kennedy and her dad will know what’s going on with dad’s lungs. Kennedy was getting nerves. They were sitting in the doctors office and Kennedy’s dad just watching Kennedy waiting on the doctor.
“Kens, everything is going to be fine. I will fight through this."
“I know but I just don’t like being in the hospital that’s all.”

“Thank you guys for waiting my name is Dr. Scott Tucker and I have your test back. It’s look like your doctor in Thunder Bay was correct. You do have lung cancer and it’s stage 3 you have a 75 % chance of beating this. At this point in this stage you can’t leave the states. Do you have a place to live?” Kennedy was going to tell the doctor that he was going to live with her and Patrick.
“I’m living at a hotel at this moment.” Doctor nodded his head.
“That means you will have to do some surgeries to get the cancer out of your lungs. Then you will have to do some radiation and chemo.” All of the thing that the doctor is telling them both Kennedy could only think is about her dad have to go so much in little time. Kennedy didn’t see that the doctor had stop talking and they both stood up.
“Kennedy?” Her dad shook her a little.
“Sorry. Thank you for your time.” They walked out side of the hospital and they have the date of when Kennedy’s dad will have his first out of many surgeries, it was on the same day as when the Blackhawks are playing the Flyers. When they went their separate ways and Kennedy went back to her place. Kennedy was hoping that Patrick will be home by the time she gets home. She really needed Patrick right now. Her brain has been telling her lies and she couldn’t shake it out. Only Patrick could help her get those bad ideas out of her head. Walking inside her place she could feel that Patrick was not here.She didn’t want to be in the house alone. Kennedy changed into some workout gear and need to run. While running around the city of Chicago she was thinking of what it would be like not having her farther around. Not walking down the aisle with her, not seeing his first grandchild or the holidays when he can make it. She has no clue what her mother is going through. The farther of her child has lung cancer. She needed to stop because her own set of lungs were on fire. When she stop running, she place her hands on her knees and try to get her lung to get back to normal. In life something we don’t thank of what we have. She was thanking of her clean lungs that she could run. But knowing that she can’t run from her problems her whole life. Turning around and walked back home.

Taking a shower alone her mind wouldn’t stop talking. It just wanted her mind to stop talking for a couple of hours and can relax. Place her hand on the glass of the shower wall. She didn’t see that Patrick came home and place his hand next to her on the other side. Kennedy jump to see that Patrick was right there. Turning off the water and Patrick handed her robe.
“How was the doctor?"
“Ok, he does have lung cancer and he has 75% chance to live."
“That’s great. Kennedy what’s wrong?” Kennedy put her head in the middle of Patrick’s chest."
“I don’t know what’s wrong with me. I know that’s great news to hear but my head won’t stop talking about all of the bad things that are going to happen if he doesn’t make it through everything that he had to go through. You know the life that we are going to have and he might miss everything if he’s gone."
“Kennedy your dad is a strong man like Stan. If he’s not here I will be your superman and save you.” Then Kennedy laughed at that.
“What?"
“When you said Superman I was thinking of you wearing that Superman cape during the last All star weekend."
“Do you know anything for your dad?"
“His first surgery isn’t till you play against the Flyers. Are you going to be sad if I didn’t go?"
“No he needs you more than me or a game."


After the big win against the Flyers Patrick cut the interviews short and headed to the hospital to see who Kennedy and her dad are doing. Reaching to his room, Kennedy was asleep on the couch and his dad was watching the high lights of the game. He looked over and Patrick and waved him in to come in.
“How did everything go?"
“Everything is good.” Brent trying to speak slower than normal. Patrick went over to the couch and put Kennedy’s head on to his lap without waking her up.
“Patrick I wanted to tell you thank you for loving my daughter. My daughter means everything to me no matter what. Ever since she was in my arms the day she was born I told her that I will do anything to make her happy till she finds the man to replace me. I think your the right man for her Patrick."
“I hope so to but I think at this moment she doesn’t want to replace you with anything in her dreams. I wanted to tell you that when you die I will be there for her no matter what. I know that Kennedy wants to be in her life for a long time. She wants you to be there when I marry her and see your first grandchild."
“Did she tell you this?"
“No I can see it in her eyes. I love your daughter more than hockey and that’s a big step for me becoming a man for her."
“Do you want to marry my daughter?”
“Without a question I do want to marry your daughter."
“Well this you have my blessing whenever you want to ask her.” When Patrick looked at the time it was time for them to leave. He didn’t want to wake Kennedy up so he pick her up and headed home.
“Thank you again Patrick.” He spoken right before the meds took in and put him to sleep. Patrick didn’t respond back and headed home.
