Goodbye Girl

3/25

Emily sat on her computer, typing reports up. Her office door opened and Jamie walked in. He dropped onto the couch near the window in her office, letting out a sigh. Emily glanced over at him, not turning away from her computer screen. She saw that he was laying on her couch. She rolled her eyes, spinning towards him in her chair.

"Yes, Jamie?" She asked.

"Problem." He stated, sitting up. "You know how we're supposed to go see Neal for his birthday this weekend?" Emily nodded. "Yeah, I don't know how I feel about leaving Tyler here alone. He doesn't really know anyone or anything about the city."

"Okay, so bring him?" She said, furrowing her brows at the confusion.

"Would that really be that great of an idea?" Jamie questioned.

"Why wouldn't it be?" She turned back to her computer.

"You show up to your ex boyfriend's party with a new guy and suddenly, his entire team thinks you're shady." He explained.

Em let out a laugh. "James knows Tyler's just my roommate. He wouldn't think any differently. Especially if I explain why he's coming with us."

"Then call him right now and tell him." Jamie stood up, walking to in front of her desk. "Better yet, FaceTime him so you can see how pissed he's gonna get." He crossed his arms.

"Fine." Emily spat back. She pulled out her phone and found James's contact. She pressed the FaceTime button. A smiling James answered. "Hey!"

"Em, what's up?" He asked.

"I might be a plus two for your party." Emily bit her lip.

"Jamie and who else?" James cocked a brow.

"Uh, Tyler, if that's alright." She told him. His expression didn't change. "I mean, he doesn't really know anyone else besides Jamie and I. I'd feel really bad leaving him in a city he doesn't know by himself." James nodded in understanding. "He's really cool though, James. You two would probably get along really well."

"I'd love to meet the kid better off than just in a game." He smiled. "Bring him along!"

"Really?" She perked up.

"Yeah, of course, Em. Any friend of yours is cool in my books." He declared.

"You're the best, James." She smiled at him. "I'll see you soon."

"Take care." He finished before hanging up.

Emily put her phone down before looking at Jamie with a smirk. He rolled his eyes at her and walked to the doors out to the hall.

"You should know that I'm always right by now, Benn. It's been long enough for you to catch on." She shot at him.

Jamie shook his head at her comment then walked out. He made the walk down the hall to the lobby doors which he walked through and straight to the elevators. His phone buzzed, notifying him of a text. He looked at the screen to see a message from James Neal. He laughed a bit when he read it.

Are Em and that Tyler kid an item?

A very angry James Neal sat on his couch, waiting for a reply from Jamie. He shook his foot while he chewed on his cheek. The guys would be over any minute for beers and movies at his house. Right on cue, a loud knock followed by the door opening signaled that the boys had arrived.

"Lazy!" Evgeni Malkin cheered, hugging his friend. James shoved him away. "Lazy upset." He frowned, sitting beside him.

Sidney walked in with a case of beer. He placed it on the counter in the kitchen before coming into the living room.

"You alright?" He nodded at James.

James stayed silent. Paul, Marc-Andre, Tanner, and Beau came into the living room. James turned his head away from them. He looked down at his phone in his hand. Jamie replied.

Can't tell ya! They're both pretty closed books

James looked at the message. Emily would. He threw his phone across the room. The six guys present let out a choir of "woah"'s. Paul picked up James's phone. He looked at James to his phone. He read the conversation opened. He let out a silent sigh and looked back at James.

"I'm sorry, man. But now it's your turn to find someone new." Paul suggested.

James groaned, leaning back on his couch. Geno looked from James to Paul in confusion. Paul mouthed 'Emily' to him and he understood.

"Yeah, cheer up, Nealsy. We go out and find new girl for you." He voiced. "Make you happy with new girl."

"It's not that easy, G." James argued. "She's been the only girl I could think of for the last nine years of my life." He sat up, holding his head in his hands.

"News flash, she isn't thinking of you anymore." Beau spoke. All the guys shot him a dirty look. He put his hands up in defence. "Hear me out!" They all rolled their eyes. "Look, it's shitty that she's found someone new, but don't you want to see her happy?" James nodded, still not sure on where he was going with his speech. "She obviously wants the same for you, so if she saw you how you are because she's seeing a new guy, it'd ruin it for her."

"Where are you going with this, Beau?" Marc-Andre intervened.

"Where he's going, is that James needs to think about Emily's feeling before his own right now." Sidney answered.

"Yeah. If he really loves her, he'll let her be with whoever and do what ever is needed for her to be happy." Beau finished.

"That beautiful, Sunshine." Geno complimented the young guy.

"What's shitty romantic comedy did you get that one from?" Tanner asked.

"None. That all came from the Love Guru himself, Beau Bennett." He expressed, dropping onto the couch. "Someone grab me a beer."

"Are you even legal?" James broke his silence.

"Yeah, I am. But as if that would bother you." Beau shoved him.

"What do you mean by that?" James laughed.

"I mean you were boning a seventeen year old when you were twenty." Beau used James's head to lift himself from the couch.

James reached out after him to punch him while the guys let out "oh"'s. "Get me a beer, fucker!"

"Or he'll fuck your younger sister!" Tanner called out.

All the guys laughed while James punched Tanner in the shoulder. Beau came back in with two beers. He handed one to James before taking his spot beside him again.

"No worries with that. My sister has standards." Beau stated, taking a sip of his beer.

"I'll remember that when you need help picking up a girl." James pointed his beer at him.

"Currently, you're the one who needs the help." Sidney piped in.

All the guys laughed and let out "oh"'s, per usual. James laughed along with the guys. If Emily was going to move on to a new guy, he was going to let her. He was going to do the same thing. James was going to be happy without Emily.
