Goodbye Girl

8/25

The Stars played their first two preseason games at home. They had lost against the Blue Jackets in a shoot out. Tyler had a goal and an assist that game. Emily knew because he bragged about it all night. He repeated, 'my first game as a Star and I got two points!' to which Jamie reminded him it was preseason and didn't matter.

When they faced the Panthers, they had a 3-2 win in another shoot out. Tyler assisted Jamie on his only goal of the night, asides from scoring in the shoot out, as well as Chiasson.

They played Florida again, in San Antonio. She decided to make the trip out to cheer on her organization. They won 4-1. Antoine Roussel came out cheering about the game and kissed Emily on the lips when he walked out of the change room. He played an unbelievable game. He laughed at Emily's reaction before walking away.

Their next game was away in Colorado. Emily watched it on TV. They won 5-3, Jamie contributing two of those goals. She texted Tyler and questioned where his point of the night was. He responded hours later with a simple 'go fuck yourself.'

They came home to beat Colorado 5-1. As soon as he walked out of the change room, Tyler pointed out how he had gotten two assists to Emily. She made a comment about how they weren't goals still and he glared at her.

Jamie had some how convinced Emily to drive to Oklahoma to see them play the Oilers. Dallas won 4-0. She didn't have much time to focus on the game since her boss was there, chatting here ear off about work related stuff.

Jamie, Tyler, and Emily all went back to their apartment that night. They sat around watching movies and talking about the game over some beers. Em was pulled out of the discussion by her phone ringing. James's name flashed across the screen. She took a deep breath, standing up. She walked into her room before she answered.

"Hey." She spoke.

"Hi, how are you?" He sounded upset.

"I'm good. How was preseason?" She asked.

"Won three, lost once in OT, lost twice in regular." He told her. "Won in a shoot out twice against Chicago and beat the Wings. How was Dallas?"

"Won five, lost one." She shrugged. "How did you play?"

"I got the first goal of preseason." He chuckled. "Sunny assisted it."

"I'm happy for you, and Beau." She smiled. "How about the other five games, James?"

"Oh, uh, I did alright. Didn't help out much the second game, or the third, but Beau won that for us in the shoot out. One of our draft picks from this year got a goal. Bortz got in a fight." James paused for a moment. "I assisted two of the goals that gave Jussi the hatty against Columbus, even though we lost."

"You sound so sad when you talk about losing." Emily frowned.

"Well I don't like doing it." He laughed.

"Okay, keep telling me how good Beau is." She teased.

"I got an assist on Tanger's power play goal, and a puck over glass." He mumbled the second part. Emily laughed. "But I got a beautiful shoot out goal."

"Beautiful goal for a beautiful man." She smirked.

"I'm flattered." He cooed. "I did nothing in the last game besides getting a shitty roughing call. But Bortz fought again!"

"I'm still proud of you." Emily stated. "Who's your first game?"

"Devils. Home opener."

"Florida. Home opener as well." She sighed. "You better call me about the game as soon as you get home."

"Don't I always?" He scoffed.

"Only because I always remind you." She rolled her eyes.

Back downstairs, Jamie watched Tyler as his eyes follow Emily up the stairs. Tyler looked back to the TV and took a swig of his beer. He finished it before he stood up. He looked at Jamie.

"You want a beer?" He offered.

Jamie shook his head. Tyler nodded, turning to walk into the kitchen. Jamie smirked.

"But you want Emily." He spoke.

Tyler froze behind Jamie. He cocked a brow at him. Jamie look back, grinning. Tyler shook his head, making his way into the kitchen. He grabbed a beer and walked back to the living room. He sat in his spot on the couch, feet propped up.

"If you're into her, man, go for it." Jamie continued.

Tyler shook his head while drinking from his beer. "Not into her."

"They way you look at her? Bullshit." Jamie laughed.

"Only thing I'm looking at like that are those legs, which everyone stares at like that." Tyler defended.

"She told me about the night at the bar."

"I was drunk and you saw the dress she was wearing."

"I didn't try to kiss her."

"I never tried."

"I didn't try to tempt her."

"You couldn't. Every other girl in the club was on you." Tyler chuckled. Jamie stayed silent with a grin on his face. "I'm not into her."

Jamie scoffed. "Okay, buddy."

"I'm not and even if I was, I'm not looking for her crazy ex to kill me." Tyler expressed his fear.

"You could take him." Jamie sipped his beer.

"He has a good three inches and like thirty pounds on me." Tyler explained.

"He has like an inch and ten pounds on you, relax." Jamie shook his head.

"Still scared of the guy." Ty shrugged.

"Of who?" Emily's voice cut in as she came down the stairs.

"No one." "James." Tyler and Jamie said at the same time.

Tyler glared at Jamie before turning to look at Emily. She walked over to her spot between the two of them, grabbing her beer as she sat. She let out a breath as she lifted her legs onto the ottoman. Her middle seat wasn't in an L shape like Tyler and Jamie's.

"Why are you scared of James?" She asked Tyler.

"Because he's tryna get with you and doesn't want to get beat up." Jamie said.

Tyler reached over and Charlie Horse'd him. Jamie held his leg in pain while Tyler glared at him.

"I'm not trying to get with you. Jamie's trying to get me to go for you even though our relationship is platonic." Tyler stated, drinking his beer.

"Jamie, you're gross." She groaned, punching him in the same spot Tyler had.

It didn't hurt the way Tyler's had so he rubbed it to get the sting away. He sat up, placing his beer on the table. He turned his body towards them.

"Hear me out," Jamie said. Tyler and Emily both shot out 'no's. "You're both hot so if you got together and had kids, they'd be hot."

"Did you just call me hot?" Tyler cocked a brow.

Emily took a deep breath. "You should move in with Jordie because you're driving me insane."

"No! Jordie's annoying!" Jamie cried.

"Then shut up!" Emily yelled, shoving him back by her face as she stood up.

The next few days were business as usual. Emily, Tyler, and Jamie all arrived at the arena together and left it together. The guys had heavy conditioning and Emily had heavy paperwork. The day before the season opener, all three were given the day off. Tyler and Emily were lounging in the living room when Jamie came down dressed nicely.

"Where are you going?" The impressed tone in Emily's question caused him to smirk.

"Out."

"Out where?" Tyler asked, sitting up.

"On a date." Jamie chimed.

"Be safe." Emily pointed a finger.

"Yes, mom." Jamie rolled his eyes.

"Lock the door when you leave." Tyler waved to the door, settling back to his spot.

"Okay, dad! Anything else parental you want to say?" Jamie mocked.

"Be home by midnight." Tyler warned.

Emily whacked his arm. "That's too late. Be home by your usual curfew."

"Which is?" Jamie laughed.

"Just come home alive." Emily suggested.

"And make sure she's easy before you try to bring her home." Tyler grinned.

"Oh my god, Tyler!" Emily gasped. Jamie laughed as he opened the door. "I can't believe I married you!"

Tyler and Jamie were both laughing. Emily had a smile on her face. Jamie waved as he closed the door. Tyler and Emily got comfortable again and continued watching the hockey game, well games since they were flicking through the three that were on.

"Quick, who scores first: Leafs or Flyers?" Tyler asked, looking towards Emily.

She let out a 'hmm' as she thought. "Flyers."

"What? No way!" He laughed. "Kessel won't let that happen."

"Oh, and any of the Flyers' D will?" She snapped back.

"Okay, fine." He flipped the channel. "Detroit or Buffalo?"

"Okay, well Detroit's my first love so obviously them and it's against Buffalo so it's a given." She explained.

"Fuck, I hate how you know hockey. All my other girlfriends that I'd play this with never knew why they were picking who they picked." Tyler expressed. Emily smirked and he caught why. "I know you're not my girlfriend, they're just who I used to do this with. That's all I meant." He flicked the channel.

"Colorado." She spoke.

"You're kidding?" He gasped.

"Nope. Patrick Roy is an unreal coach."

"Anaheim is an unreal team!" Tyler shot up.

"Relax." She kicked him.

He grabbed her foot with his free hand and switched back to the Philadelphia game. The game was still scoreless. He flicked to the Detroit game and saw it was 1-0 for them. Emily sat with a smirk on her face. Tyler looked at her.

She moved her foot in his hand. "Go team!"

"I didn't argue that Detroit was getting the first one of the night." He threw her foot.

"You didn't agree either."

"I didn't care." He tossed back.

He turned to the Colorado game. They watched until the horn blew as Ryan O'Reilly's wrist shot went in. Emily let out a sigh and looked at her nails like she hadn't realized she was right. Tyler glared at her.

"Oh, get over yourself." He shook his head, looking away from her.

She grinned before switching spots and crawling over to him. He was sitting in the corner of the L with his legs away from her. His arms were on the tops of the couches.

Emily wrapped her arms around Tyler's torso and rested her head on him. He ignored her and continued watching the game. She glared up at him. She didn't mean anything by her actions. Harmless flirting, she thought. Tyler thought the same thing.

"Ty!" She whined.

"Don't talk to me." He hissed.

"Check the Flyers game." She growled, looking back to the TV.

Three minutes left in the first. The game was still scoreless. With seven seconds left, Lecavalier skated around the net and passed to Brayden Schenn, who ended the first with the Flyers leading 1-0.

"Unbelievable." Tyler whispered. Em looked up at him and he looked at her. "How the fuck were you right about all three of them?"

"I'm a genius." She shrugged, pulling out her phone. She gasped when she looked at it. "Today is the second, right?"

"Uh, yeah." Tyler answered as more of a question.

Emily rolled her eyes and stood up. She dialled a number and walked into the kitchen. Tyler muted the TV to eavesdrop. He thought their friendship was at that level now.

"James?" Emily spoke when she heard him answer.

"Yeah, hey. What's up?" He asked from the other end of the phone.

"I need you to three way me." She said.

Tyler burst into laughter. Emily stepped out of the kitchen, glaring at him. He held up his hands in innocence. She rolled her eyes, going back into the kitchen.

"James?"

"Yeah, I'm just thinking of which of the guys would be u,"

"No! I meant three way call!" She growled. Tyler laughed. "Call Petey while I'm on the phone with you and then add me to it."

"Oh, for his birthday." James understood. "Gimme a minute."

Emily took a deep breath and went back into the living room. She sat down beside Tyler and placed her head on his shoulder. He put an arm around her as he changed the channels between the games.

"Hey, you there, Pete?" James spoke.

"Yeah, what do you want?" He grumbled.

Emily held back a smirk. No doubt in her mind that Pete was hungover or wasted. Tyler cocked a brow at her. She gasped before putting it on speaker.

"Em wanted me to three way with you and her." James explained.

Tyler gave her a look. She rolled her eyes.

"That's a little weird. I don't really wanna be in that with my broth,"

"Three way call, Pete!" Emily cut him off.

"Oh, that makes more sense." He laughed. "So what do you want?"

"I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday, Petey!" She chimed.

Realization hit Tyler. "Happy birthday, Pete." He spoke.

"Who the fuck is that?" Pete spat.

"It's Tyler." Emily rolled her eyes. "You played Whalers with him."

"I played Whalers with three Tylers, better specify."

"Neither of the Browns." Tyler laughed.

"Holy fuck, Segs. You're with Emily?" Pete laughed.

"They're just roommates." James broke his silence.

"Oh, right." Pete laughed again. "Okay, well, thank you, both, but I'm trying to get drunk so I'll probably drunk text you later."

"Sounds good. I'm used to James's." Emily taunted.

"Shut up." James chuckled.

The phone call ended with that. Emily and Tyler sat in silence. He just stared at the TV. She looked up at him, chewing on the inside of her cheek.

"Sufficiently awkward." Tyler stated.

"Why?"

"I don't like Neal." He shrugged.

"Which one?" She giggled.

"James." Tyler glared. "Because he's a dick."

Emily rolled her eyes before snuggling into Tyler's chest. He kept an arm around her before switching back to the Flyers game. It was tied 1-1 in the second. She cursed, causing him to smile. He went to the Buffalo game to see Detroit winning 2-0.

"Expected." Em mumbled.

He flicked to the Colorado game and it was 3-0 for them. Emily held back her smirk. Tyler glared down at her.

"Get away from me!" He yelled, trying to shove her off.

She wrapped her arms tighter around him and wrapped her legs around his thighs. He laughed, shaking his head at her. He gave up pushing her away.

"You're ridiculous." He chuckled and felt Emily shrug.
