Crossing the Line

Chapter One

Logan laughed as Cam sped down the highway, the city becoming a blur in the rear view mirror. “You know you have to take me back right?” she teased stealing his BU Terriers cap off his blonde head. “Shut up Logan I’m kidnapping you for the day. We’re due for some solid twinning,” Cam said trying not to smile. Logan laughed again and studied her brother from the passenger’s seat. For twins they really didn’t look that much a like. All they had in common were their eyes, bright blue eyes that didn’t seem to match. Hers were far more playful than his, which was fitting since everything about Cam was serious. “So where is this twinning happening?” Logan asked watching the last skyscraper disappear in the side mirror. Cam smirked and told her that it was a surprise making her huff in frustration. “So how’s my other sister?” Cam asked changing the subject. “Oh she’s just as great as always. Just broke up with dirt bag actually,” Logan replied telling her brother about her best friend Jackie. “Thank god!” Cam exclaimed making a mental note to pass that along to his best friend, Jackie’s brother. The Jeep got quite for a minute while Logan was looking for a radio station. Cam bit back laughter when he heard her cursing and pleading with each station to play her favorite song. “Yes!” she shouted throwing her hands in the air and singing along with the Zac Brown Band. Cam laughed glancing at his sister; she looked like a wild child with her red curls whipping all over the place as she screamed and danced along with the song. “MY BAR TENDER SHE’S FROM THE ISLANDS HER BODY’S BEEN KISSED BY THE SUN!” Logan screamed along with the radio. “Coconut replaces the smell of the bar and I don’t know if it’s her or the rum,” Cam shouted along with her making them both laugh.

“I’ve missed you Log,” Cam said out of the blue after a few moments of listening to the radio. Logan rolled her eyes. “Cam we talk every day and we live in the same city it’s not like I never see you. We ran into each other the street the other day. By accident,” Logan said and Cam knew she was right but it still wasn’t the same. “So how have the boys been?” Cam asked sneaking a glance at his sister. Logan didn’t seem to miss a beat or even blush as she told her brother about her interactions with her friends over the summer. “I got a call from Canada yesterday actually just to check up and a surprise package from Finland because he came back early,” Logan said. “Oh and Jackie and I are apartment hunting if you can think of anywhere. It’s been great of her brother to let us say in his place after graduation but we both hate mooching,” Logan said catching Cam off guard. “I thought you were going to have Shawn as a land lord and move to Charlestown,” Cam said starting to worry that Shawn wasn’t holding up his end of the deal. “It’s too far from Jackie’s job,” Logan said. Before Cam could comment any more on the situation Logan squealed in excitement. “We’re going to the best place on Earth you’re the best brother ever!” she exclaimed throwing her arms around him as he tried to get off the exit.

“Cam stop laughing I’m seriously so excited right now,” Logan said bouncing in her seat as he continued to laugh and look for a parking spot. “Logan it’s not like we’re going to Disney, we’re going to Nantucket, there’s a huge difference,” Cam said finally pulling into a spot. Logan gave her brother a dirty look. “Damn straight there’s a difference. My island is better than a place with unruly kids,” she said in a tone so serious Cam burst out laughing. Without a second thought Logan jumped on her brother’s back and declared that since he laughed at her he could carry her to the ferry. “You’re just lazy,” Cam laughed looping his arms under her knees for a piggyback ride. “I shall admit to nothing,” Logan said unable to contain her giggles. “Alright lazy ass I’ll take you to the ferry but I’m telling everyone about how your legs were too short to keep up with me,” Cam said with a smirk that she couldn’t see but knew was there. “Fuck you!” Logan exclaimed trying to kick him but not jumping down. “Wow Log, I know we’re close but incest is not the answer,” Cam said. Logan hissed in annoyance but that only made Cam laugh harder, to the point where he had tears gathering in his eyes. “Are you done?” Logan asked as the ferry came insight and her childlike excitement returned.

“I really shouldn’t do this,” Logan said as she continued to eat her ice cream. “Shut up and eat it before I push you in,” Cam responded pointing to the harbor below them. Logan started to flip him off but then remember that Nantucket in the middle of tourist season would have a lot of children and refrained. “Look at all your self control,” Cam cooed. Before he had time to react Logan swatted his ice cream cone out of his hand and into the water. Laughing at the look on his face Logan stood up and started running away from him back towards Main Street. “You better run!” Cam threatened running after her. She took a moment to glance over her shoulder to look for her pursuer and found herself sprawled out on the ground after colliding with something. “Are you alright?” a voice asked and a hand reached down to help her up. With the sun in her eyes Logan couldn’t see the face of the person she’d just assaulted but she took his hand and began to apologize profusely. “I’m so sorry, I should’ve been looking where I was running. Are you okay? I’m really so so-“ Logan’s endless apology was cut off by laughter from the person she had run into. “Please, there’s no way you could cause me harm. You barely reach my shoulder. I’m more worried about your hard fall,” the guy said with a teasing smile. It’s the same kind of thing Cam or one of the guys would have said to her but for some reason when this stranger said it Logan felt herself bristling. Pull herself up to her full five-foot one she looked up at the person but heard something behind her before she could say anything. “Alex,” Cam snarled his gaze shifting from protectively looking at Logan to furiously looking at the person in front of him. “Hey Cam. Haven’t seen you since the season ended,” Alex said stepping around Logan to shake her brother’s hand. Logan watched the exchange somewhat confused, she had never heard of her brother’s teammate Alex. “I’m sorry to interrupt your date,” Alex said gesturing to Logan even though he knew she wasn’t his girlfriend. Cam’s eyes were flashing again, in a way that Logan hadn’t seen since they were children. She walked over to him and laid a hand on his arm. “We have to get going or we’re going to miss our ferry,” Logan said looking only at her brother and doing her best to ignore the stare boring into her. “It was nice to see you Alex,” Cam said wrapping a protective arm around his sister’s waist before walking towards the docks.

Logan jumped when her phone rang. There had been nothing but silence between Cam and Logan since the encounter with Alex. Logan didn’t want to push and Cam didn’t want to explain. She was relieved for the distraction and answered before looking at the caller ID. “Okay so, I think I found a baby sitter. But if I didn’t then I’m still going but Milan won’t be there. I told him to deal with it because you were my friend first so I get to go to your birthday party over him. Of course he pulled the Cam card and the big brother card but hey he also started to look for a baby sitter too so maybe we’ll both be there,” Brittany ranted before giving Logan a chance to say hello. “Hey Britt, my day was great thanks for asking. Yes I’m very excited for the party,” Logan responded laughing and heard Brittany say some choice words in return. “But as long as one of you in there that’s alright. If you want we can set up a room for Val so you can both come with or without a baby sitter,” Logan offered and felt Cam’s gaze on her. Brittany gushed for a few more minutes and then informed her that she, Katie and Stef would be over early so they could all get ready together. “Jackie will be there right?” Britt asked and Logan just laughed in response. “I’m just making sure! We’re trying to set Dougie up with a date and since they haven’t met yet we thought it might be a good match. But we want it to be double blind and not tell her it’s even happening,” Brittany said. Logan pondered setting her best friend up for a moment before agreeing. “Alright I’ll see you at you and Jackie’s apartment to get ready and then I’ll bring you to the super secret party location,” Britt said and hung up. “Brittany?” Cam asked, his voice startling his sister. Logan nodded glancing at him from the corner of her eye while she texted her best friend. “I don’t even want to know what kind of trouble she has planned for you ladies tonight,” Cam chuckled thinking about the crazy things they’d done in the past.

My heart hurts for what's happening to Logan :( the drama is a very good driving force though. I'm so happy that Tuukka finally vocalized his feelings, and I hope that he gets her home soon so they can be together and happy.

Really like this so far! Love the Jackie/Dougie drama in the latest chapter, either way it's going to cause some issues for them in the future! Keep up the good work! :)
