Crossing the Line
Chapter Eighteen
“Don’t forget I’m going skating tomorrow so I won’t see you until the evening due to conflicting schedules,” Logan reminded Jackie before heading out to her night shift. “I’m going skating blah blah blah,” Jackie mimicked stabbing her raspberries. She was jealous that Logan got to go skate with their old teammates while she was stuck in a doctor’s office for her first baby appointment with her barely boyfriend. “How is it fair?” she grumbled to Tazer who just looked up at her with sympathetic eyes. “Maybe she’ll fall and someone will accidentally cut off one of her fingers,” Jackie suggested to the dog, who gave her a confused look. “You’re right, Logan never falls,” she sighed getting up from the island putting her empty dish in the sink. “I’m meeting Dougie for lunch after his practice today so hopefully this will go better than last time,” she muttered more to herself than to Tazer who continued to listen raptly. Jackie decided to take a shower since she had time before lunch. Letting the warm water run over her Jackie looked down at her stomach. She knew she wouldn’t start showing for at least another two weeks but she still liked to look just in case. She heaved a sigh and ran her hands across her stomach. “Well baby, wish Mummy and Daddy luck, hopefully we’ll work this out before we see you tomorrow,” Jackie said to her unborn baby as she got dressed.
Every time the door opened Dougie held his breath and prayed it was his girlfriend. When she finally did walk in Dougie wasn’t sure how to start breathing again. He watched anxiously as she made her way over to him and sat across from him. If Jackie noticed his strange actions and twitching she didn’t say anything but rather just smiled in greeting. “I can’t do this any more,” Dougie blurted out. Jackie jumped back, startled by his abrupt outburst. “You can’t do what anymore?” Jackie asked cautiously. Dougie sighed and collected his thoughts before answering. “I miss you Jacqs. I miss talking to you. I miss waking up and having to pee but not moving because you look so cute sprawled out with your head on my chest. I hate that I haven’t held your hair once even though that’s my baby in there. I hate that I made you cry and that I hurt you. I hate that I can’t take that back but more than all that I miss you,” Dougie said, his eyes searching Jackie’s face looking for some kind of answer. “You know, I make really good lunch. I can cook for us back at my place. Logan won’t be home until tomorrow,” Jackie suggested a small smirk growing on her face. Dougie smiled and got up offering Jackie his hand. Admiring the snowflakes falling around them when they headed back to her place Jackie smiled. Everything felt right, her boyfriend was laughing at her as they walked and they were going to be a family.
“Lunch can wait,” Jackie declared as soon as they walked into her condo. Pulling Dougie’s face to hers by his collar, Jackie molded their lips together and continued to walk back towards her bedroom. Dougie stopped and picked her up causing Jackie to gasp in surprise. Dougie slipped his tongue into her mouth. Pulling each other’s clothes off they explored each other’s bodies as if they had never been together before rather than a two and a half week gap. Letting his hands roam over her naked body Dougie stopped at her stomach and bent forward placing kisses from her stomach to her breasts. Jackie sucked in a breath when he started licking and sucking her nipples. She tangled her hands in his hair letting him continue to the other before pulling his mouth back to hers. The kiss was filled with passion and longing as Dougie pulled her body tighter to his. “Dougie,” Jackie whined when he teased her lining up at her entrance but not moving. With one swift movement Dougie entered her, thrusting hard. She met him thrust for thrust and before long she was yelling his name with her fingers digging into his back.
“Are you excited to see the baby today?” Jackie asked popping a strawberry in her mouth. Dougie smiled trying to hide the nerves. He was thrilled to see his first baby on the ultrasound but it made so real. “If it makes you feel any better I’m scared shitless. Poor Logan’s been talking me off the ledge at least twice a day,” Jackie said with an awkward chuckle. Dougie wrapped his arms around Jackie from behind. “Don’t be scared Jacqs, this is exciting just nerve wracking because we’ve never done this before,” Dougie said his hands resting on her stomach. Jackie sighed and leaned back melting into his body. “You know the more I do the math I realize I’m probably only seven weeks along max so we might not be able to see the baby but we might be able to hear the heart beat,” Jackie said after a moment. Dougie smiled, of course she would go right back to thinking about the appointment. “We had better get going if you don’t want to be late,” Dougie said checking the time. Jackie scrawled out a quick note to Logan before grabbing her purse and Dougie’s hand. “Let’s go hear all about little baby Kane-Hamilton,” she grinned up at him standing on her toes to give him a quick kiss. Laughing at her transition from excitement to nerves back to excitement Dougie led her out to the car listening to her chat about her babies at work and how she had told them about her baby.
Laughing Logan caught Julie Chu off guard and tackled her to the ice. “Choo Choo!” she giggled before quickly getting up and skating away. “Oh you’re going to regret that LB!” Julie called skating after her. “You’ll have to catch me first,” Logan spun around to stick her tongue out. Julie continued to skate after her trying to knock Logan onto the ice but Logan was too fast for her. “You forget Choo Choo, I was known for my speed,” Logan laughed skating passed Jessie Vetter and Amanda Kessel. “Sorry but she’s right. LB stands for Little Bullet after all,” Amanda commented watching the failing pursuit. “Hey where’s our favorite Kaner?” Molly Schaus asked noticing the brunette wasn’t among the girls on the ice. “She had lunch plans with the BF today and I wouldn’t let her break them to come skating,” Logan said making all the girls laugh. “Speaking of, how’s your goalie doing? Is he picking you up? I would love to meet him,” Jessie interrogated. “Jeez Jessie take a breath or something!” Allie Thunstrom called making her way over to her teammates. “Al!” Logan squealed tackling her into a hug. “Good to see you too Logan,” Allie laughed returning the hug. “Someone doesn’t get out much,” Julie staged whispered as she skating leisurely by having given up on getting back at Logan. “Fuck you Julie! I live a very busy life between the hospital, Jackie and my hockey players I don’t see any of you lot much,” Logan said flipping her teammate off. “We’ll always have hockey players. It’s an occupational hazard,” Amanda laughed and everyone else nodded her agreement. “Sometimes I miss it,” Logan admitted can-can skating by a small cluster of the girls. “And I stand by, someone doesn’t get out much,” Julie repeated and Logan laughed with her. “So how has everyone been? How was the wedding? And Jessie I want to see the ring again! Tell me everything!” Logan exclaimed throwing her arms out wide skating towards the group slowly. “Why didn’t we get her cut again?” Amanda muttered to Molly. “Because she’s amazing when she’s not annoying,” Molly sighed shaking her head as Jessie started to tell her all about the proposal.
Alex looked down at his phone, according to the tracker in Logan’s locket she should be walking passed him within a minute. He saw her coming with red cheeks from the cold and a bright smile from spending time on the ice. “Hey Logan,” Alex greeted with a wave as if he just happened to see her. “You look chilled to the bone,” he fretted when she got closer. Logan laughed, a sound he could never get enough of. “I’m just a bit chilly but it’s not a long walk home,” she said brushing it off. “I can give you a ride if you want, you would just have to hang tight while I run my last errand,” Alex offered. Logan thought for a moment before she accepted. She had told Jackie she wouldn’t be home until dinner so what would few more minutes hurt. “Awesome, hop in,” Alex said with a smile opening the door to his car for her. “Why thank you,” she giggled getting into his black Toyota. “I haven’t seen you in forever. How’s life been?” Alex asked. He figured if he could keep her talking it would take longer to notice that they weren’t heading towards her condo. “It’s been good. The kids are great at work, Jackie and her boyfriend are doing well, I just got to go skating with some of my teammates and now I’m getting a ride home from a friend!” she beamed. Alex laughed at her enthusiasm. “How’s Ben?” he asked remembering her favorite patient. Logan’s smile grew if it was even possible and she turned towards Alex to tell him all about her patient as he got on the highway. “Hey Log, sorry to interrupt but my phone’s dead, can I borrow yours to call my roommate real quick?” Alex asked. Pausing in her story about Ben, Logan handed him her phone. Alex dialed his own phone number and left a fake message for himself before slipping the phone under his thigh. “So how’s Ben’s little friend? What’s her name Charlotte?” Alex asked drawing on his knowledge of Logan’s life. Logan didn’t hear the question as she noticed for the first time they were outside the city. “Where are we heading?” she asked wondering just where his errand was. “I’m taking you to my mother’s. She’s been dying to meet my girlfriend Logan and invited you for Christmas,” Alex said. Logan panicked and looked at Alex. “If you’re thinking about calling Jackie I have your phone. But you don’t need to be worried, I just want my two favorite ladies to meet,” Alex said reaching for Logan’s hand to offer her comfort. Logan pulled away from him. She had never realized Alex was crazy, quirky sure but everyone’s quirky. He was truly insane.
Notes
A lot of you probably don't like him but Alex is my favorite character I've ever written, I just love the guy
My heart hurts for what's happening to Logan :( the drama is a very good driving force though. I'm so happy that Tuukka finally vocalized his feelings, and I hope that he gets her home soon so they can be together and happy.
