Crossing the Line

Chapter Eight

“Are you ready yet? They’re going to be here any minute,” Logan sighed leaning against Jackie’s doorway watching her roommate scramble around. “Shut your fucking mouth and help me,” Jackie snapped and began to describe the bag she was searching for to put her jersey in. “The one I gave you or the one Pat gave you?” Logan asked looking in boxes Jackie still hadn’t unpacked. “The one Pat gave me. The black one that I got mad at him for spending so much on,” Jackie yelled from the bathroom where she was finishing straightening her hair. Logan finished digging through a box before moving on to the next. “Jackie I can’t find your bag! Did you let someone borrow it? Did I borrow it?” she asked running from Jackie’s room to her room to see if the bag was there. “Jacqs I don’t have it but do you want to just borrow mine? I have a similar one from Pat,” Logan called dumping the contents of bag on her bed and ran back into Jackie’s room. “I put your jersey in the bag now hurry the fuck up because I’m going to kill you if you’re not ready when they get here,” Logan threatened.

“Feisty,” a voice commented behind Logan making her jump. Logan turned to see Adam looking at her with a brow raised and a smirk on his lips. “Jacqueline, you had better be ready because they’re here and we cannot make them late,” Logan threatened sticking her tongue out at Adam who laughed. “Yeah yeah I’m ready,” Jackie said walking out and grabbing the bag Logan had prepared for her. “You know Logan shooting daggers with your eyes won’t actually cause anyone harm,” Jackie remarked as she brushed passed Logan and Adam heading down to the car. “I hate her so much,” Logan chanted under her breath as she walked out with Adam. Still laughing his wrapped his arm around her shoulders pulling her into his side. “Aw don’t say that Lulu, you don’t hate her you just want to put her in net with no padding,” Adam teased using Logan’s favorite torture threat. Logan rolled her eyes and kept grumbling about killing her roommate all the way down to the car.

It was hard to be anything but excited for the game when she made it down to the car and saw how excited Dougie looked. “Who’s ready to watch us crush the Flyers?” Dougie asked as Logan climbed into the back seat of the truck. “You better win, we hate Phili,” Jackie said grimacing at the thought of them. “But DZ,” Logan protested thinking about one of her favorite ex-Rangers. Adam scoffed, “You only like him because he gave you his number last year at a game.” Logan blushed and flipped him off. Dougie turned around with his eyebrows raised. “Logan is there something you need to tell us? Do you have a love for a team other than the Bruins?” Dougie questioned sounding like Cam. Jackie and Logan exchanged a look and burst out laughing. Their laughter subsided as they pulled into the player’s lot and excitement returned. “So what was so funny about other teams?” Dougie asked still curious as he held the door open for the girls. They dissolved into a fit of giggles and waved their goodbyes before leaving without answering the question.

“I still can’t believe they don’t know,” Jackie said when her laughter finally subsided. “They’re stupid idiots and don’t know anything. They don’t even know who I am or who you are,” Logan laughed leading them to the Bruins’ box where they planned on hanging out until going to their seats. Shaking their heads the girls entered the box. Without warning Logan tumbled to the ground. “Valentina!” Brittany scolded trying to hold back her laughter at the bewildered look on Logan’s face. “Auntie Logan!” Valentina squealed looking up at the person she accidentally tripped. “Oh you little devil you! You better run!” Logan mock threatened getting up at the girl giggled and ran away. “Auntie Mel hide me!” she cried for help going straight for Melanie Krug. Jackie and Brittany laughed watching the antics around them. “So what had you two in stitches when you walked in?” Brittany asked walking over to where a few other wives and girlfriends were hanging out. “Dougie asked us if there was another team we loved more than the Bruins after Adam brought up DZ and we were laughing about how they never seem to put two and two together,” Jackie said with a chuckle and Britt joined in understanding what she meant. “Mummy help!” Valentina cried out drawing the attention of the room. Everyone turned to see Mel, Katie and Logan holding Valentina and tickling her. When they noticed all eyes on them Logan and Katie stopped tickling and Mel put Valentina down. “So I hear we’re supposed to get snow early this year,” Logan said pretending to be casual. The box erupted with laughter as the three held a conversation about the weather.

“Fucking right boys!” Jackie said high fiving Logan who was laughing at her roommate’s drunken dancing. “Oh like you’re so much better,” Jackie sassed grabbing Logan’s hands making her dance to Dirty Water with her. Logan threw her back and laughed dancing with Jackie. “That guy is staring at you,” Jackie stage whispered to Logan causing her to whip around. “Matt!” Logan called out waving to one of Cam’s college teammates. “Who are you here with?” she asked when he got closer, looking around for her brother. “Cam’s not here. I’m with Ozzy and Alex,” Matt said smiling at Logan. In college Cam had been strict that no one could hit on his sister. “Oohh Alex,” Jackie teases from behind Logan grinning and poking her sides. Before Matt can ask what the teasing is for Ozzy and Alex came over. “Little Logan!” Ozzy cried out sweeping her up into a hug. “Hey Oz,” Logan laughed steadying herself with Jackie’s help when he got put back down. “Hi Logan,” Alex said smiling when she blushed. “We have to go, we’re gonna be late,” Jackie said tugging Logan’s arm after checking the time. “Are we still on for Friday?” Logan asked Alex ignoring the shocked and yet impressed looks his friends gave them. Alex nodded his head and Logan giggled waving goodbye before letting Jackie drag her away. “Jackie, how much did we have to drink tonight?” Logan asked as the two ran through the Garden giggling. “Well we each bought multiple and had multiple bought for us,” Jackie answered when they slowed down before turning to the hall by the locker room. “Well there you are,” Mel laughed seeing the giggling girls walking down the hall. “Mel guess what,” Logan said when she got closer. “I’m so drunk,” she exaggerated bursting out giggling. “So you’re a giggly drunk,” Katie observed fighting back a smile. Before Logan could answer the door opened and the first few guys started walking out. “Hey ladies,” Brad said with a smile as he walked by with Reilly who nodded his greeting. When Tuukka walked out a few minutes later he noticed Logan first. “Tuukka!” she exclaimed giving him a hug. “You played so good tonight,” she declared ignoring the snickers behind her. “Thanks Log,” Tuukka laughed. “I’m drunk,” she whispered as if it was some big secret. Tuukka laughed, “Then we should get you out of here. I’ll see you later Jackie, night ladies.” Logan said her goodbyes and laced her fingers with Tuukka’s as they left the building. “Drunk actions are sober thoughts,” Brittany said quietly shifting a sleeping Valentina on her shoulder.

Logan’s first waking thought was how happy she was to have Thursdays off. Her second was appreciating the comfort of her bed when she was hung over. “Morning Logan,” Tuukka whispered kissing the top of her head. Logan looked up at her best friend and saw the circles under his eyes. “Was that me?” she asked putting her hands on either side of his face, guilt starting to eat at her. “It’s fine Logan, it’s not your fault,” Tuukka said but she shook her head. “I shouldn’t have had so much to drink. Once I lose control the nightmares come and with the nightmares comes sleepless nights for you,” Logan said. “I’m going to go make some breakfast, you stay here and snooze I’ll bring the food to you,” Logan instructed kissing his cheek and crawling out of bed. She didn’t remember putting pajamas on and added it to her list of things to thank Tuukka for. After taking a few Advil with Gatorade Logan set to work making a protein filled breakfast. She hummed as she flit about the kitchen thinking about her date with Alex the next night. Logan stopped short when she realized that she was more excited about going to dinner with Tuukka than she was to go dancing with Alex. Putting the muffins in the oven quickly Logan went to Jackie’s room to see if she was in there. “Jackie can we talk?” Logan asked curling up under a blanket on the bed. “Logan go back to sleep,” Jackie muttered. Logan shook her head, “It’s important.” With a sigh Jackie opened her eye and propped herself up on her elbows looking at Logan to continue. “I’m almost positive that I like Alex platonically,” Logan admitted. “So?” Jackie asked failing to see how this was important. “I’ve never had to break up with someone normal before,” she whispered. “Logan give me some time, it’s early in the morning. We can figure it out later at a normal time okay?” Jackie said her brow furrowed trying to think about how to let someone down when you weren’t really dating.

Alex smiled to himself when he finished the locket. It didn’t open and that was exactly the way he needed it. The oval was just big enough to fit a wireless microphone. “Let’s see how this works,” he said aloud before putting the locket down and checking his laptop. Sure enough there was a recording of his voice as well as text to match his words. Works like a charm, Alex though putting it in a box and tying a ribbon around it. Alex pulled out his phone and texted Logan that he was excited to go dancing. Leaving his room, Alex turned off the lights in the main room before opening the door to the room next to his. “Let’s see if we’ve developed,” he said to himself as he took the photo paper out of the solution and hanging it up. After a few moments a picture of Logan walking with her brother appeared on the paper. Alex continued down the line until the room was filled with his newest pictures of Logan. Some with her and Jackie, some with Cam, some with various Bruins players, but Alex’s favorites were the ones he got of her by herself. They were mostly her leaving or going to work but he didn’t care if they were all the same picture, any picture of Logan was one he wanted.

Notes

And to think, Jackie had a feeling there was something weird about Alex.

My heart hurts for what's happening to Logan :( the drama is a very good driving force though. I'm so happy that Tuukka finally vocalized his feelings, and I hope that he gets her home soon so they can be together and happy.

Really like this so far! Love the Jackie/Dougie drama in the latest chapter, either way it's going to cause some issues for them in the future! Keep up the good work! :)
