Trouble in Paradise

New beginnings

Chapter 6
The last week has been really weird around here. The guys seem to be walking on thin ice around me and acting like I could break at any moment. I’m really not even sure to think about what is going on. It’s almost like they know something I don’t. Hell, even Evgeni has been acting different. He’s been trying a lot harder to talk to me, though I’ll admit I haven’t exactly made it easy on him. Everytime I look at him, I can’t help but think of the night that we had our fight. I also haven’t really spoken to Kaner. He’s sent me plenty of texts and calls but I haven’t found it in me to respond to any of them. I’ve talked to Jonny, Hjalmarsson, Sharpie, Shawzie and Steeger and from what they’ve said Pat is a complete mess. He doesn’t understand why he’s the only one out of the guys that I’m not speaking too. I think Jonny has it all figured out but he hasn’t said anything. I think I’d be more relieved if he did call me out on it though. I heard Jordan calling my name from the bathroom, knowing him, he probably just needed some help tying his tie before heading to the arena. I peaked my head into the bathroom and couldn’t help but laugh at the sight in front of me. Jordy was struggling like crazy with his tie, just like I had expected. “Need some help?” you ask smiling. He turns his body towards you, obviously frustrated. “You never were good at these things. How do you survive without me on the road with you?” You questioned laughing and fixing his tie for him. “Are you sure you don’t want to come to the game tonight? You haven’t been out with us in like a week.” He groaned. Jordy did have a point. I had mostly been cooped up in the hotel room, only coming out to go to breakfast with the team or to go to the next city. I felt bad about it but I didn’t want to ruin their fun. “I don’t know Jordy, I don’t want to ruin your fun. We both know I haven’t exactly been the best person to be around.” I joked, he nodded his head in agreement. When I wasn’t laying in bed I was puking my guts out. I had done a pretty good job of keeping it hidden from Jordan but I was honestly starting to get worried. It wasn’t normal to be sick this often. “Come on, please just come to the game tonight. We need all the help that we can get against the Bruins.” He wiggled his eyebrows at me making me laugh. “Alright, alright. I’ll come but let’s make it clear, you talked me into it.” I laughed as he lightly pushed me into the bedroom. “Get ready then. We have to leave soon.” I laughed and went to my suitcase. I hadn’t had the time to wash any of my jerseys, so my only clean one was Malkin’s. Did I really want to do this? I wasn’t entirely sure. “Jordy, the only clean jersey I have right now is his.” I couldn’t bring myself to say his name. I flung myself onto the bed. “I can’t go now.” I noticed Jordan roll his eyes. “Kellie, are you ever going to forgive him? He’s been trying really hard to make it up to you. You and I both know that. I also know that you miss him like hell. You love him and I can’t imagine how it felt to hear the things he said to you that night, but I do know that he didn’t mean it. You know he broke up with Oksana, right?” He questioned. I shook my head no. “Do you remember the night we played Chicago and you passed out on the couch in the lounge?” I shook my head yes. How could I forget it? I woke up in an unfamiliar room wearing someone’s hoodie. Jordan and Sid came in with my bags and told me it was time to leave when I woke up the next morning. Though they would never tell me who’s room or sweatshirt I was wearing. “Geno carried you from the lounge onto the bus. I offered to take you from him but he refused. You stayed cuddled up to his chest the entire way to the hotel. It was the first time that I saw a real smile on your face in a while. He wouldn’t let you out of his sight, well until Sid and I came over that is. I don’t think he slept at all that night, to be honest.” My brain couldn’t process the words that Jordan was saying. Evgeni carried me to his room? This was becoming so confusing. “Why’d he break up with Oksana?” I asked, though it probably should’ve been the last thing on my mind. “That my dear you will have to ask him.” Jordan said kissing my forehead and walking out of the bedroom. I slipped G’s jersey on and changed into a pair of jeans with my black converse that had all of my boys numbers stitched on. I straightened my hair and applied a light amount of makeup before meeting Jordan in the lobby. You saw a lot of the guys there but there were still quite a few missing, Geno being one of them. You released a sigh and walked further into the lobby. “Looking good.” Sunshine called and whistled at you. You sent a dirty look in response his way. “Well this is surprising.” Letang whispered in your ear. “I haven’t seen you in awhile. Finally decide to come cheer us on again?” He asks hugging you making you nod in response. After a few minutes of mingling you were left standing awkwardly alone by the front door, which you didn’t mind too much. “I like. Jersey nice.” I heard his accent in my ear. His minty cool breath hitting my neck, causing my breath to hitch in my throat. He wrapped his arms loosely around me, almost unsure if I was going to allow him to do so. “Geno.” I whispered, saying his name for the first time in weeks. “I need to talk to you. What if I come by after the game?” I questioned looking into his eyes. “After game we go out. You come too. We have good time.” He said trying to hide the fear in his eyes. “Fine, I’ll go out after the game, but I’m not staying long.” I warned. The bus pulled up in front of the hotel and the team began filing out to load up. I wasn’t really feeling the whole walking thing. I had barely kept anything food or liquid wise down for almost a week and my body was feeling it. I was exhausted just by the walk from my hotel room to the elevator and the elevator to the lobby doors. “Geo!” I called making him turn back towards me. “Carry me? It’ll be like old times.” I added in for good measure. The look in his eyes reminded me of a little kid on christmas. He turned and hoisted me onto his back, carrying me onto the bus. He sat me down in a seat and took the one next to me. “You okay? You no look to good.” He asked rubbing my hand softly. “I’m just really tired. I haven’t felt like myself this week. I can’t keep much food in my system.” I let the last part slip. Geno immediately grabbed his bag from under the chair and pulled out a yellow and blue gatorade along with a stash of his snack crackers. “Pick color.” He ordered handing me the bag of crackers. “Geo, no. Those are for your game. You need to keep your electrolytes up. I’ll get something at the game.” I could tell he wasn’t going along with my idea, he handed me the yellow one. Which happens to be my favorite. I smiled slightly and thanked him. “Take little sip.” He ordered making me laugh at his seriousness. I felt my phone vibrate a few times in my pocket. I expected it to be a call from Kaner, but I would’ve taken that over who it really was. I had a text from Ty, I’d read that one later, and a text from a number that was no longer saved in my phone. I instantly knew who it was. I felt all of the color that I had drain from my face, I even dropped the crackers and the bottle of gatorade. They made a crashing noise when they hit the floor. I quickly picked the things I dropped up off the floor and opened the text from Brandon. “Can’t wait to see you tonight.” Was all that it said. There was no way he would be able to get back to the locker rooms to get to me, right? What if he knew where I was sitting? He couldn’t.I didn’t even know where I was sitting. I wasn’t even going to go to the game. Maybe that’s it. He wasn’t expecting me to be at the game. He was expecting me to be at the hotel room by myself. He would have one hell of a time trying to figure out what room I was in, seeing that I bounced around from room to room. I didn’t always stay with Jordy. I excused myself from Geno and attempted to find Sidney. When I finally found him he was sitting in the very front of the bus with Flower, playing their PSP. I never could get the hang of whatever game it was that they played, so I normally just watched and cheered them on. I bent down so I could whisper in Sid’s ear and ignored all the shouts from the team. “Sid, I need to talk to you asap. It’s really important” He nodded and I went back to my seat. next to Geo. If Brandon was going to be at the game it was going to be a long night. The bus ride to the TD Garden wasn’t very long, it probably only took twenty minutes. I was thankful for that. I waited until most of the guys were off the bus before I got out of my seat. Geno was always the last off the bus, Sidney was second to last and I was before them. I followed them into the locker room and sat down on the floor next to G’s stall, and listened to Coach give the boys one of the pre game speeches. After he was done talking the boys usually warmed up with a game of two touch and I usually participated, but I really wasn’t feeling like it today. Instead I wanted to walk around a bit and talk to Ty. I really missed my best friend. I left the locker room and walked around the arena. “Hey Tyler. How have you been?” I asked moving out of an employee's way. Her voice sounded off, it didn’t sound like the Tyler I knew. “Kellie. I think I’m pregnant.” Her voice shook and I could tell she was about to cry. “Wow. That’s awesome. I’m so happy for you and Sunshine. You’ve told him right?” I asked stopping and leaning against the wall. She was quiet for a while. “He doesn’t know yet. I think he knows something is off with me though. I’ve been really sick. He was ready to come home last night. I told him not too though. I don’t want him missing any games. There’s only two weeks until he comes home anyways.” I thought back to what she had said about being really sick. Could Tyler and I both be pregnant? No. There’s no way. “Have you taken a test?” I asked whispering, I didn’t want anyone to overhear. “Yeah, seven. I’ve gotten three yes’ and four no’s. I don’t know what to do.” I sighed. I really wished I was home with her now. She shouldn’t be alone. “Here’s what you need to do, make a doctors appointment. It can be before or after I get back, if you want me to go with and then run to the store and get two boxes of donut holes. You’ll need both. Just sit on the couch, eat them and watch movies. Don’t think about it anymore tonight. Okay?” I asked. I knew she’d love the donut idea, she could eat them all day and never gain a pound. “Thank you. Oh, please don’t tell Beau. I don’t want to distract him from the games anymore than I already have. I’ll talk to you tomorrow though.” We said our goodbyes and hung up. I slid down the wall and sat on the cold arena floor, my head in my hands. I picked my phone up again and dialed Abbys number. It rang and rang but she didn’t pick up. I mumbled some curse words to myself before dialing Patricks number. After a few rings he picked up. “Hey doll face. I miss you.” He said. Hearing his voice brought tears to my eyes. I couldn’t help but think of how much simpler my life was in Chicago. “I miss you too Sharpie! I really need to ask you something. I tried calling Abby but she didn’t answer.” He just laughed. “ She’s out with some friends right now. It’s just Maddie and I hanging out at the house. What do you need to ask me? Are you okay?” I could hear a little bit of panic in his voice. “I’m good.” Not really but he didn’t need to know that. “So a friend of mine thinks she may be pregnant but she isn’t really sure. Do you remember how Abs knew she was pregnant with Mads?” I asked, it wasn’t entirely a lie but it wasn’t entirely the truth either. Either way, he didn’t need to know. “Well with Maddie, she was sick all the time. She couldn’t keep anything down for a week, she lost at least five pounds during that time. The only thing I could get her to keep down was crackers and some gatorade. I can have her call you when she gets back. She would know more about it then I do.” We both laughed. Sharpie was an excellent dad, but he wasn’t exactly the most observant. I told him that that was fine and was about to hang up when he spoke again. “Now it’s my turn to ask the question.” I immediately knew what this was about. “What’s going on with you and Kane? He’s been playing like shit and he looks like it too.” I could hear the confusion in his voice. I felt really bad about ignoring Pat but I couldn’t face him just yet. “Talk to Johnny, I’m sure he has it figured out.” With that I hung the phone up, smacking the back of my head on the wall in the process. I brought my hand back to the painful spot and mumbled an ouch before getting up off the floor. The game should be starting before too long so I really should make my way back to the locker room, if I could remember how to get there. I dialed Sid’s number hoping he would answer but I didn’t have such luck, I sighed frustratedly before hanging up. I guess I would just have to find someone who could point me in the right direction. It didn’t take too long before I noticed a giant of a man walking down the hallway. He was obviously a Bruins player, judging by his uniform. I didn’t really want to talk to him, but he had been the only person to walk by here within the last hour hour at least. I really didn’t want to wait that long or longer for someone else to come by. I approached him cautiously. “Excuse me. I’m kind of lost, could you please point me in the direction of the visitors locker room?” The man smiled. “I was actually headed in that direction. I’d be happy to take you.” He said taking a step. It took me a second before I started to follow him. “I’m Zdeno, I didn’t catch your name.” He said smiling at me. “I’m Kellie.” I smiled back. We walked in silence for a few minutes. I didn’t realize I had gotten this far away from the boys. We stopped in front of two large doors that had the Bruins logo painted on them. He turned towards me. “It’s faster if we go through our locker room. “ He opened the doors and I followed him inside. I got a few wolf whistles from some of the players but I noticed Patrice Bergeron and Milan Lucic, the bad boy of the NHL, smack the back of their heads and Big Z, as he’s called, send them a dirty look. I couldn’t help but let out a little laugh as they winked at me. Zdeno walked me to the locker room doors. “Thank you for walking me back to the room.” I said kissing his cheek and entering the locker room. “Who’s ready to kick some Bruins butt?” I yelled jumping onto Sidney’s back, causing everyone to laugh. “Oh thanks for answering my call too.” I fake pouted. Sidney just rolled his eyes. “Alright boys! You better win this game for me!” I stood at the door patting them on the back and giving a few of them a playful nudge. When it was just Sidney, Geno and I left in the locker room I whispered something in Sid’s ear. Causing him to smile. I could tell G didn’t like it too much. When he came near I whispered “Score a goal for me.” into his ear and kissed his cheek, just like I had with Sidney. He nodded and I followed them out the door. I could already tell that this was going to be a good game. I made my way to my seat, which happened to be right behind the Penguins bench. I couldn’t help but smile everytime Chara, Lucic or Bergeron would skate by, they either winked or made a funny face. The entire first period was uneventful. I walked into the locker room and asked each of the guys if they needed anything. I wrapped up Sunshines wrist, taped up another stick for Nealer and got an extra gatorade for Duper. I sat down on the floor next to Geno once I was done with all of that. “When are you going to score me that goal?” I joked. There was something off with G but I couldn’t put my finger on it quite yet. “You no see I try!” He practically yelled. “I no focus. You flirt with other team.” He got off his stall and stood over me. “Why you wear my jersey and no theris? Whores no wear my jersey.” With that I got up off the floor, I was fuming. “What in the fuck is your problem Evgeni?” I asked trying my best to get into his face, it didn’t work too well, he was too tall. “You hear.” He yelled back. I got up onto his stall and was finally face to face with him. “I am not a whore Evgeni! How dare you accuse me of that. All because I smiled at guys who helped me out. Am I the only one who sees a flaw in the way that you think?” I yelled. I saw Evgeni bring his hand up, I flinched expecting him to hit me. Instead I felt someones arms wrap around me. I was shaking so hard I didn’t think I could get off of the bench by myself. I hugged on to Jordan tightly as he rubbed his hand up and down my back trying to comfort me. Just when I thought that things were going back to normal with Evgeni, it all crumbles again. I pulled away from Jordan and stood at the door. It wouldn’t be long before they had to head back on the ice for the second period. When my boys got to me they gave me a reassuring smile and a kiss on the cheek. Sid did the same and I wished him good luck. I walked out of the room before Geno could even blink. I was halfway down the hall before he could even leave the locker room. I quickly went into one of the private bathrooms and locked the door behind me. The tears were free flowing my now. I hurt so much, I couldn’t take it anymore. I grabbed the pills out of my purse and crushed them up quickly. I took one last look in the mirror before I fell onto the floor. I don’t know how long I was passed out on the bathroom floor but when I checked my phone, I knew it had to be the third period by now. I quickly opened the door and rushed to my seat. I had only missed the second half. I saw the relieved looks on the faces of Jordy, Sid and Nealer when they noticed that I was there. I sent them a small weak smile before they went onto the ice. The score was 2-1 Bruins, but I had no idea who had scored. The third was going by pretty uneventful. There were a few checks into the boards near my seat that I would flinch at every time it happened. With three minutes left in the third Milan Lucic scored tying the game at 2-2. I was on the edge of my seat. I really wanted my boys to win. The minutes ticked down so there were only seconds left. Sidney won the faceoff and Duper grabbed it sending it up the ice to Letang. Letang shot it to Evgeni. He shot the puck and it went straight past the legs of Tukka Rask. Evgeni scored the game winning goal. They won! I jumped up, not caring that I was dizzy and seeing double of everything, I was happy that they had managed to pull off a win. I sat back down and watched as the players went into their locker rooms. I stayed there looking at the ice for at least ten minutes before I slowly made my way to the locker room, stopping and leaning against the wall outside. I knew I’d be there for a little bit before the guys were all showered and dressed. “Not going to celebrate with your boys?” I heard a voice that I never wanted to hear again. “What are you doing here?” I spat, he came closer. I could feel his breath on my neck. It made me shiver. “Get away from me you asshole!” I felt his hand connect with my cheek, I knew that there would probably be a bruise there in the morning. I fought back the tears that were threatening to come. “You do not speak to me in that manner. Do you understand me?” He growled in my ear grabbing my jaw, making me look him in the eyes. I nodded my head as best as I could. “Now how about we go out for a little bit tonight?” He asked kissing my neck. “I’m not going anywhere with you.” I will not let him dictate my life anymore. I saw the anger flash in his eyes. He brought his hand back and punched me in the face. I couldn’t stop myself from falling to the ground. “Get up, bitch.” he ordered kicking me in the ribs. I groaned in pain. I got on my hands and knees, attempting to get up but I was quickly knocked back onto the ground again. I braced myself for another hit but it never came. I looked up and was taken into the arms of none other than Zdeno Chara. Milan Lucic had Brandon pressed up against the wall by his throat. I buried my face in his chest. The locker room became suddenly quiet. I wasn’t sure if it was because I was in the opponents arms or if it was because Zdeno Chara was standing in our locker room. I was ripped out of his hands and in the arms of Duper in ten seconds flat. Evgeni and Jordan had Zdeno pressed up against the wall. “Guys stop! He didn’t do anything!” I yelled even though it hurt like hell. “Someone go help Milan! He’s alone with him.” I yelled. Evgeni and Jordan let Chara go and ran into the hall. I was set down on a bench and Chara was kneeling in front of me. I was suddenly aware of all the eyes that were now focused on me. “Where are you hurt?” Chara asked moving some hair out of my face. “Honestly, everything.” I sighed. Someone handed him a towel and he wiped the blood off of my lip. “Who was that guy?” He asked rubbing my arm gently. I suddenly just wanted Evgeni here with me. I wanted his arms around me, I wanted to smell his cologne, I wanted to be pressed up against his chest and I wanted more than anything for him to tell me that he would never let anything happen to me, but I knew that wasn’t going to happen. “He’s an ex.” I whispered so only Z could hear. “Is Milan okay? Please tell me he didn’t get hurt.” I stood up and walked to the door, peeking my head out. I saw Milan, Sidney and Evgeni standing in the hall, but no Brandon. He didn’t escape did he? I rushed out to them even though moving was unbelievably painful. “Are you guys okay? Please tell me he didn’t hurt you. I will never forgive myself if he did.” I spoke, my words all in one sentence. Milan laughed lightly. “We’re all fine. We’re actually more worried about you. Are you okay?” He touched my face gently. I let out a breath. “Where did he go?” I asked suddenly aware of how far I was from the safety of the locker room. “I wouldn’t worry about him coming around you ever again. We got him pretty good.” Milan laughed. “I was pretty sure Geno broke his knuckles there for a minute. He just wouldn’t lay off of him. The dude will probably have a broken nose, a broken jaw, and a few broken ribs.” Sid laughed, “Broken jaws suck, he deserves it.” I smiled before thanking them immensely. Who knows what would have happened if it wasn’t for them. “Let’s go get you checked out.” Milan suggested. “I’m okay. It’s not the first time this has happened. I’ll just have a few cuts and bruises. Nothing I can’t deal with.” I said wrapping my arms around Milan and Sidney. We went back into the locker room and found Z chatting with some of the guys. This was a huge surprise. I didn’t expect that. He also had a gift bag sitting next to his foot. I sat next to him. “Thank you for helping me. I don’t want to think about what would have happened if it wasn’t for you and Milan.” I said honestly, laying my head on his shoulder. He laid his head on top of mine. “We got you a little something.” He whispered handing me the bag. I gave him a confused look but he just smiled. I opened the bag and pulled out all of the black and gold colored paper. I pulled out three jerseys. There was a Chara, Lucic and Bergeron one. I couldn’t help but laugh. “Now you can cheer us on no matter what.” He laughed. “There’s a special note in one of them, but you can’t look to see until you get back to the hotel.” He winked, kissing my forehead and leaving with Lucic. What could this surprise be? I suddenly couldn’t wait to get back to the hotel.

Notes

What do you think the surprise is? Who do you think it's from? A little cliff hanger(: (: (:
