Decisions

Chapter 9
“Say that again. I don’t think I heard you correctly.” Johnny stated blankly.
I really wasn’t in the mood to repeat what I had said.“You heard me Johnny. I really don’t know what to do right now. You’re the only one that knows. I don’t want Patrick to know until I find out if it’s true or not. I just couldn’t hold it in anymore. I had to tell someone and who’s better than my best friend?” I was trying really hard by this point to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill from my eyes. “Where are you guys at now?” He asked sighing. “We’re in Toronto now and we’ll be in LA tomorrow and Thursday then we’re back home on Friday.” I told Johnny as I laid back on my hotel bed. “Okay, here is what you need to do, I know there is a drug store around the corner from the arena. Take one of the guys, that you trust not to say anything and go now. Take it while the guys are out or while you’re at the airport. If you do it at the airport then you won’t have to worry about one of the guys seeing it. I want you to call me as soon as you know. Kaner better be the first one you call if it’s positive. I love you to death but you can’t keep that from him. It isn’t my place to tell him either. I have to go now, but I’ll talk to you later.” We said our goodbyes and hung up. I couldn’t hold my tears in any longer I just let them all out. Suddenly I didn’t feel like being alone, I wanted someone here with me. I just didn’t know who I could call. Jordan was definitely out of the picture, he wouldn’t understand. After running all of the guys through my head I decided on calling Sidney. The phone seemed to ring forever before he finally picked up.
“Hey, Kellie. What’s up?” He asked, moving away from all of the noise in the background.
“Si-Sidney, I need you.” I sniffled.
“Wait. Are you crying? What’s wrong? Are you okay?” I could hear the panic in his voice.
“I just need you. Can you please just come back to the hotel?” I asked wiping away more tears.
“I’ll be back in ten minutes. Do you want me to go to your room or meet me at mine?” He asked. I assumed he was walking back to the boys because the background noise got louder. I told him I’d meet him at his room and hung up. Getting off the bed I grabbed my make up bag and went into the bathroom. I took out two of the pills and started the whole process. I checked my nose to make sure you couldn’t see any of the powder before I left my room. The walk to Sidney’s room was a quiet and quick one. He was only one floor up from Jordan and I. I sat down in front of his door and waited for him to come back.
*Sidney’s point of view*
The guys and I decided to hit up one of the restaurants a few blocks away from the hotel. Tanger tried to get Kellie to come along but according to him she just wasn’t feeling it. I didn’t blame her, she looked exhausted. I was really hoping that she would get some sleep before the team dinner that we had tonight. We all needed our good luck charm, especially for the next two games. Thanks to her we were undefeated on our road trip, and the guys were all pumped up about it. As the boys and I walked into the bar/restaurant we were noticed by a few people but we were thankfully left alone. We all ordered a beer and looked over the menu. I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket and pulled it out looking at the caller ID. “Who is it bro?” Tanger asked bumping my shoulder. Unfortunately it was Kathy, my ex. Ever since she met K she started acting differently. She hated her and I wasn’t going to have someone in my life that didn’t like my sisters. So I dumped her. After all family is everything to me. “It’s Kathy, again.” I sighed ignoring her call, “She just needs to give up already. I don’t have anything else to say to her.” Tanger nodded his head and went back to looking at his menu. When the waitress came back we all got the steak, it came highly recommended by the hotel staff. I went back to joking with Duper and Geno when I felt my phone start to vibrate again. I rolled my eyes and was about to press ignore when I noticed who was calling. I answered and excused myself from the table, walking to a quieter place in the bar.
“Hey, Kellie. What’s up?” I asked her confused as to why she was calling.
“Si-Sidney, I need you.” I could tell that something was wrong just by the tone of her voice. I was pretty sure she was crying.
“Wait. Are you crying? What’s wrong? Are you okay?” I was panicking by this point, all of these thoughts were running through my mind. Did Brandon find her again? There’s no way he would do something like that again, not after what Lucic and I did to him. The hotel wouldn’t give out our room numbers to people either, plus there was no way he would know who she was rooming with during this trip. I was so focused on my own thoughts that I almost didn’t hear what she said.
“I just need you. Can you please just come back to the hotel?” I could tell she was beginning to cry harder and it broke my heart. I hated to see or hear her upset.
“I’ll be back in ten minutes. Do you want me to go to your room or meet me at mine?” I asked turning my attention back to the boys, she told me she’d meet me at my room and hung up. I walked back to the table and pulled some money out of my wallet, placing it on my place mat. “This should cover it, if not let me know.” I told Tanger. “Where you go?” Geno asked taking a sip of his beer, turning all of the attention back on me.
“I’m not feeling so good right now, I think I just need to go back to the hotel and rest a little bit before the team dinner You guys enjoy dinner and I’ll see you later.” I heard a chorus of goodbyes as I left the restaurant, walking as fast as I could back to the hotel.
When I got onto my floor I immediately saw Kellie sitting on the floor leaned up against the wall. As I got closer I noticed that she was asleep. I picked her up and somehow managed to open the door. I set her down on the bed and noticed as she started to stir. She opened her eyes and looked over at me.
“Hey babe.” I said sitting down on the bed next to her. She gave me a slight smile before letting out a long sigh. “What’s wrong? I don’t like seeing you upset. You can tell me anything.” I said running my fingers through her hair. She looked up at me, “Promise you won’t get mad or judge me.” I held up my pinkey and took hers in mine, this caused her to laugh a little. “Okay, well when we were in Chicago I met up with some of the guys after the game for dinner. We all had a good time and I wanted to spend some more time with them so a few of us decided to go out to one of the clubs. Well one thing led to another and I guess I drank way too much because I kind of sort of woke up in Kaners bed.” Kellie didn’t look at me the entire time that she spoke. “It was a total mistake. I don’t even like him like that. He’s my best friend. I can’t even look at him or speak to him without thinking about that night. I don’t think he remembers any of it though. If he does, he hasn’t said anything.” I was a little confused as to why she was this upset about it. It was a mistake, one that she can move on from, Kaner doesn’t remember it.
“Okay, what has you so upset about this? If he hasn’t said anything then I doubt he remembers.” She still didn’t make eye contact.
“Things with Geno are finally getting better and I want to be with him so badly but I think I messed up big time Sid. I think I’m pregnant with Kaners baby.” Kellie was crying really hard by this point. I was shocked but immediately took her into my arms and rubbed her back in an attempt to sooth her. When she had calmed down a little bit I was able to speak.
“How about we walk down to the drug store down the street and we can pick up a few tests. You can take them in here that way it stays between you and I. The guys are still at the restaurant so we shouldn’t run into them anytime soon.” I rubbed her back again and she nodded.
Kellie’s point of view
Minutes later Sidney and I were on our way to the drug store down the street from our hotel. I’ll admit, I’m scared as hell about what these tests are going to show. Right when things were getting better between G and I, my life throws me a curveball and I have to deal with this. What if the test comes back positive? Would Kaner even want the baby? How would we even make it work? He lives in Chicago and I’m in Pittsburgh, there’s no way I’m moving back and Kaner wouldn’t leave his team. I decided to send Kaner a text. I pulled my phone out and quickly typed out my message, “Hey Kaner, some of the guys and I were talking and we made a bet. Would you ever want kids? I bet no so I better win. haha talk to you later -K” and pressed send.
“Sidney?” He looked over at me. “What if I am pregnant?” I asked grabbing ahold of his arm. “Well do you want to be?” He asked moving out of the path of a bicyclist. “No, there’s still so much that I want to do. Plus if I’m having anyone’s baby, I want it to be Geno’s.” I laughed. “It sounds weird since we aren’t together but I love him Sid. I love him with everything I have. Everything that he has said and done during this trip doesn’t change that.” I felt Sid wrap his arm around my shoulders pulling me into him tightly.
“I know things are weird with you two right now but he loves you too. I know he does. Pull Kuni aside during dinner or while we’re walking back and ask him about what happened when you crashed in their room the other night.” By this time we had reached the entrance for the drug store.
“Do you want to stay out here? If anyone sees you with me while I buy these then it may just be all over the internet. I don’t want to cause any trouble for you.” I said pulling my jacket closer to my body. Sidney laughed and pulled the brim of his hat closer to his face and put on a pair of sunglasses that he pulled out of his pocket.
“There we should be okay now. I don’t think anyone will recognize me.” I laughed and walked into the store. Sidney followed close behind.
“There has to be at least fifty different kinds!” I mumbled to myself. “Which one should I get?” I whispered to Sid.
“Kellie, we are the only one’s in the store, you don’t have to whisper. “ He laughed and pointed to a box that had “Voted number one” in large yellow lettering and “Weeks estimator” in purple. Seven bucks for one test I sighed and grabbed four off the wall. “Alright there are a few other things that we need to pick up.” Sidney said walking in the direction of a different aisle. I followed him and noticed that he had now acquired a basket. I wasn’t sure when he had picked it up. I followed him into the drink aisle and watched as he put three gallon jugs in. I raised my eyebrow but he didn’t say anything, instead he walked to a different aisle. I watched as he put bags of chocolate into the basket. “I didn’t think chocolate was on your diet.” I laughed as he gave me a sarcastic look. “It isn’t for me, it’s for you. Now lets go pay for this so we can get back before the guys do.”
Checking out was quite awkward. I kept getting dirty glances from the older employee. I smiled and remained friendly through it all. “Your total comes to 41.70.” I went to pull my wallet out of my pocket but Sid quickly handed over his credit card. The lady ran it and handed it back to him with a slight nod. I grabbed the bags and walked out the door onto the city street with Sid by my side. I felt Sidney grab the bags out of my hand. “Here “ he handed me one of the gallons of water. “Start drinking.” He laughed as I took a giant gulp. I was halfway finished with the gallon by the time we reached the hotel. I would definitely need to pee pretty soon.
“Sid will you bring me the tests?” I asked putting my hair up in a bun and changing into a pair of sweats that he had loaned me. The door opened and the bag with the tests inside was being held in the bathroom with one of Sid’s hands, while the other covered his eyes. “What are you doing?” I asked him laughing so hard I almost snorted. “I’m being a gentleman!” He laughed. I took the bag, kissing his cheek and thanking him. I opened all of the boxes and laid the tests out in a row on the counter. “Alright, where’s the other jug of water?” I picked it up off the nightstand and took another large drink, jumping onto Sid’s bed next to him. He was going through the channels on the TV, so I decided to check my phone. Maybe Kaner had texted back. Lucky me he did. I took a deep breath before opening his message.
“Hey K! Miss you. You’re right, I never want those little shits. haha. Call me later? -Kaner” I felt all of the color drain from my face.
“K, what’s wrong? Who texted you?” Sid asked shaking me out of my trance. I couldn’t speak. The words weren’t forming, so I shoved my phone in his direction. He grabbed it out of my hand and read the text a few times. He tossed the phone onto the couch and turned his attention back to me, wiping away tears that I didn’t know were falling.
“Hey, it’s okay. You haven’t taken the tests yet, so we don’t know anything. If you’re not pregnant then great. If you are then that’s great too. You have an entire family here with the guys. We all love you and will support you with whatever decision that you make. Kaner doesn’t realize what he’s missing out on. Let’s take this one step at a time, okay?” Sid asked and I nodded. I took another drink and wiped away the tears that had thankfully stopped falling and walked into the bathroom closing the door behind me. Here goes nothing.
“Sidney, set the timer for ten minutes please.” I set the last test down on the box on the counter and washed my hands. I closed the bathroom door and curled up next to Sidney on the bed, laying my head on his chest.
“Will you check them with me?” I asked playing with the blanket that he was laying under.
“Of course. What kind of friend would I be if I just abandoned you in your time of need?” He asked playing with my hair. The ten minutes seemed to take an eternity. My heart seemed like it was going to beat right out of my chest ,I felt extremely nauseous and I was shaking really bad. I closed my eyes and focused on taking deep breaths.
“Alright, let’s go check on them.” Sidney said turning the timer on his phone off. I groaned as he pulled me off of the bed and into the bathroom. “Are you ready?” He asked. I nodded my head. “On the count of three we’ll look at it. Ready? One….Two…..Three.” I grabbed the first test. “Negative.” Sidney and I both said at the same time. I moved on the the second test which was also negative. “I bet you five bucks they’re all negative.” Sidney said. I shook his hand and looked at the third. It’s negative. “There’s only one left. “ I said picking it up. I took a deep breath. Negative. I let out a huge breath I didn’t know I was holding. “Looks like you owe me five bucks.” Sidney laughed. “How about I buy you a beer at dinner tonight instead?” I asked wiggling my eyebrows at him. “That works for me too.” He laughed picking me up and throwing me over his shoulder. “Sidney!” I yelled giggling. “Put me down!” I ordered. “No. You’re not pregnant so that means I can do this.” He threw me on the bed and sat on my stomach tickling me. “Sid…...Sidney….Siiiiid. Stop.” I said in between breaths. “What do you say?” He asked tickling me again. “Sidney is the hottest NHL player there is and he isn’t a cry baby. Happy now?” I asked. He laughed and got off of me. “You’re phone is ringing.” He said tossing it to me. I pressed answer and said hello.
“Jordy, calm down. I’m fine.” I laughed. “I’m with Sidney. He told me he wasn’t feeling very well so I came over to keep him company. I’ll come back in a little bit, you can get your panties out of a bunch now.” I laughed as he mumbled something and hung up. “I guess the guys are back now.” I laughed. I felt my phone vibrate again.
“Yes, Jordan?” I asked rolling my eyes. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the thick accent on the other line.
“Not Gronk.” He laughed. I blushed turning my back to Sidney.
“Sorry I just got off the phone with him.” I laughed again. “So what’s up?”
“Go out after dinner?” I could tell there was a little bit of nervousness in his voice. It was kind of cute.
“Sure! I’d love too. Are we going to the club or what?” I asked getting excited.
“No dress normal. I see you tonight.” He said hanging up the phone.
I turned my attention back to Sid.
“Geno call you?” He asked a huge smile on his face. I nodded .
“Knew it!” We both laughed.
I pulled my phone out and sent a quick text to Tazer.
“Guess what! No bun in this oven! - K.” I smiled and jumped on the bed next to Sid.
“ Movies?” We said at the same time looking at each other and bursting out into a fit of laughs. I was thankful things were finally getting back to normal.
*Fast Forward to right before the team dinner*
Sidney, Jordan, Geno, Kunitz and I were the first ones in the lobby waiting for the rest of the team to go to dinner. I checked my watch for what seemed like the thousandth time. I felt my stomach growl, I was starving. “If the rest of the team isn’t here in five more minutes I’m leaving without them. That’s a promise.” The boys laughed and I saw Kuni slip away. Where’s he going? I thought to myself. The minutes ticked away and my stomach continued to growl. “Ugh! I’m so hungry!” I whined. By this time Kuni had reappeared. “Here.” He handed me a candy bar. “Why?” I asked not paying much attention. “You’re not you when you’re hungry.” He mimicked. I couldn’t help but laugh at him. “You gave me a snickers? That’s my favorite!” I jumped out of the chair and into his arms. “Thank you thank you thank you!” Kuni put me down as the rest of the boys finally decided to join us.
“About damn time!” I yelled.
“Kellie, language!” coach yelled back.
“Sorry.” I laughed blushing a bit.
We all headed out the doors and down to one of the steak houses a few blocks away. I pulled Kuni away from Beau and made it so that we were behind everyone in the group.
“I have to ask you something. What happened when I crashed with you guys the other night?” I asked making sure to keep my voice low.
“You were in the bathroom for like a half an hour and it was kind of weird because you didn’t have any of your stuff with you or anything. Geno hot concerned and knocked on the door. You didn’t answer until he was knocking so hard that he was pretty close to breaking the door down. When you did open the door I guess you fainted and he had to catch you. He picked you up and put you on his bed. I figured he was just going to lay next to you, but he made me turn around and he put his shirt on you instead of Lucic’s. He stayed up all night making sure that you didn’t stop breathing or some shit like that. He cares about you, a lot.” I was amazed by what Kunitz was telling me. Geno made him turn around so that he couldn’t see me in my bra and he wanted me to wear his shirt. I felt my cheeks get a little bit warmer. “Why wouldn’t you open the door anyways?” Kuni asked. I cursed under my breath. “I guess I was just so tired after being out pretty much all night I just crashed in the bathroom. I was exhausted.” I was hoping that Kuni would buy that. “If that’s the story you’re going with then I won’t question it. Just so you know when you went out with the Bruin’s G was a mess, it didn’t help when you fainted and were breathing all funny and turning blue when you crashed with us either. That messed him up. Try not to let him see you like that again. Okay? We all care about you and we’re here for you no matter what. You know where to find me if you ever need someone to talk too. Okay?” With that he kissed the top of my head and went back to walk with Sunshine. Did the guys know about my pill issue? There’s no way. I haven’t been that careless about it. I’ve hid it well, haven’t I? I guess I’ll just have to be even more careful about it.
“K! You here!” Geno pointed to the seat in between him and Jordan and across from Sidney. I took the seat and quickly ordered a beer for myself and Sidney. When the waitress brought it back to the table I could tell she was trying hard to flirt with the three boys surrounding me, it was quite pathetic actually. She had unbuttoned a few of the top buttons on her blouse so that you could clearly see her boobs, she made it obvious that she wanted them to see all of her goods. I took a big sip of my beer and tried to avoid rolling my eyes. So far it wasn’t working. “So which one of you is getting her number tonight?” I asked looking at each boy. Geno put his hands up in a surrender. “She’s not my type.” Sidney replied. So that left Jordan. “Looks like it’s just you buddy.” I raised my glass in his direction and quickly downed the rest of my beer. I motioned for the waitress to come back and ordered another beer. “Doing some catching up sis?” Jordan asked with a laugh. “Hell yeah. I haven’t had a drink in two weeks now. That ended tonight!” I laughed. The waitress brought a new beer over and stalked off after I laid my head on G’s shoulder and stuck my tongue out at Sid. “So Geno, what are we doing after this?” I asked with a large smile. “Surprise.” Was all he said before he went back to looking over the menu. I groaned, I was never one for surprises and took a sip of my beer. “Hey Sid!” Pascal yelled from the other side of the table. “Can I room with you tonight? Kuni wants to room with Tanger tonight.” Sidney laughed and shook his head yes. How could you say no to Duper? You couldn’t. I felt my phone vibrating in my pocket and excused myself to the restroom.
“Hey Johnny, what’s up?” I asked leaning against the wall.
“Guess what! There’s no bun in my oven! Does that text sound familiar?” He asked.
“Yeah, I sent that to you earlier today.” I said confused as to why he was upset.
“No, you didn’t send that to me. You sent it to Kaner. He put two and two together. He figured out why you weren’t talking to him for so long and why you sent that text about the fake bet on kids. He’s pissed. We’re at the bar now and Kaner’s going hard. Not his usual way either. He’s doing nothing but hard liquor tonight. I told you to be careful. But you didn’t listen did you?” Johnny’s voice was filled with anger.
“Jonathan, I don’t understand why he’s so upset. He didn’t want any little shits running around remember. I don’t understand why you’re so pissed at me either. We dogged a bullet here. Kane and I are not together. We have no business bringing a child into this world. Neither of us are ready for a child anyways.” I was getting angry by this point in time.
“You should have told him.” I hung up before Johnny could say anything else. I stormed out of the bathroom and back to the table.
“You okay?” Geno whispered in my ear. I gave him a slight smile and went back to looking over my menu.
