We all headed into the kitchen and Zach helped Ava up into her seat and pushed her seat in. I couldn't help but stand there and stare at the two of them. It was such a nice picture of someone helping Ava. Even though Ryan had been there for Ava and I, he had never been like that with Ava. I was the one who always helped her. The more I thought about it I felt a lump grow in my throat, at that moment I realized that maybe Ryan tolerated her more for my benefit. Don't get me wrong he loved her in his own way and took care of her. But we both knew that Avalon would never really be his.

"Hey you ok, Maddi?" Zach asked, breaking me from my thoughts.

"Yeah, why do you ask?" I asked, shaking my head to clear it and swallowing the lump in my throat.

"Well because your crying," he replied softly.

"Am I? Silly me," I sniffled.

I reached up and felt my cheeks and felt the wetness on my cheeks. I used the back of my hand to wipe off the tears.

"So Zach do you want one of my cinnamon rolls?" I asked, trying to change the subject off of me.

"Sure, I think I can indulge in one. Plus if Ava says there the best theres no way I can pass up trying one," he replied smiling, but his eyes held worry in them.

"There really yummy Mr. Zach," Ava replied, smiling and nodding her head.

Zach and Ava went on a discusion about something else. I couldn't help but keep an eye on them as I plated up the food. I had to smile at the way Ava was talking animatedly with Zach. She was usually such a shy child. I carried the plates over to the table and set them down.

"Would you like coffee, juice, or milk to drink?" I asked Zach, after setting his plate down.

"Thanks this looks really good. I'll have a coffee and juice," he replied, smiling widely.

I went back over and poured all of our drinks and made two trips carrying the drinks to the table. I finally sat down and started eating. Silently watching Zach and Ava still carry on a conversation. I felt a pang in my chest as I realized we looked like a real family, but unfortunately we would never be a real family.

"So where are your kids this morning?" I asked Zach, as Ava stuffed her mouth with food.

"Alisha took them to school," he replied, looking at me. He had a dark look pass over his face again when he mentioned Alisha.

"Oh, well that must be nice to be able to take turns taking them to school." I responded.

"Yeah I guess. I mean usually Alisha takes them and picks them up because of my schedule. And of course when I'm out of town," he said, shrugging his shoulders.

I swallowed the food in my mouth, realizing if Avalon went to that school it looked like I would be running into Alisha more than I wanted to.

"So twins huh?" I asked.

"Yeah twins," he replied, with a sad smile.

"That must be nice. You got a boy and a girl in one-shot. Their both really adorable. And once again I'm really sorry about yesterday. I really thought she was Avalon," I started rambling.

"Hey like I said don't worry about it. You were in a hurry to get out of there. Good thing I knew who you were and could easily find out your address," he laughed, "And thank you. Their my life, I would do anything for them."

"So Mariann is your daughters name. What's your sons name?" I asked.

"Michael. His name is Michael," he replied, with a huge smile.

"Momma I'm done," Ava said.

I looked over at her plate and saw she ate half of her food.

"Ok Ava. Take your plate to the sink and than go upstairs and get dressed and cleaned up. Make sure to brush your teeth good. Than go play or watch cartoons. Today's your last free day, you go back to school tomorrow," I told her.

"Ok momma," she replied, pushing her chair back and taking her plate to the kitchen.

"So you and Ryan?" Zach asked, after he watched Ava leave.

"Don't start this Zach. I really don't want to fight. I told you yesterday yes me and Ryan," I sighed.

"I'm not trying to fight. I'm just trying to find out how that happened," he responded.

"He was there for me. After everything that happened, after what happened to me. Well he was there for me and supported me. He encouraged me to continue through college and to get my degree even though I was pregnant. He was there even when my family wasn't," I responded.

"Ally said you were in a accident and you lost some of your memory. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you Maddi. I didn't know or I would have been there for you," he said, reaching over and squeezing my hand.

"Yeah I know she did. But hey it's ok, I mean you were newly married. I didn't want to be a burden," I snapped bitterly.

"Hey Maddi, it wouldn't have mattered to me. You were still one of my best friends. I still would have liked to have known something had happened. I could have been there for you and supported you also," he replied.

"Really you sure about that? I'm sure Alisha would have really loved that," I said sarcastically.

"What does Alisha have to do with this?" he asked in confusion, scrunching his eyebrows.

"Nothing. Just nothing forget I said anything," I responded, getting up and taking my plate to the sink.

"No I want to know what Alisha has to do with this," he said.

"Zach I'm just saying do you think your new wife would really like you supporting your ex-girlfriend right after your wedding?" I asked, turning around and leaning back against the sink with my arms crossed.

"It wouldn't have mattered if she did or not. You were still my friend," he answered.

"So where have you been all this time?" he asked.

"Here there everywhere. We've been in Portland, Aniheim, Portland again, Aniheim again, Carolina, Florida, and now here," I answered.

"So you've been on the move a lot?" he asked.

"Yup pretty much," I answered, with a shrug of my shoulders.

"That must of been hard on you, with a baby and all and finishing school." he said.

"I guess so. But we made it work. I just hope being here is a little more premanent with Ava being in school now," I answered.

"Understandable. So she's not Ryan's?" he asked.

"No," I whispered.

"Really? So who's is she?" he asked inquisitively.

"What does it matter to you Zach?" I asked, I could feel myself starting to get defensive.

"I guess it really doesn't. I'm just wondering who's she is, if she's not Ryan's. I mean really Maddison were you really that sexually active that you don't know who the father of your child is? Come on Maddison, I mean really your not that stupid are you? Your not that irresponsible to not know who the father of your child is are you? I know your better than that," he stated, starting to get frustrated and standing up. He knew he wasn't handling the situation well and it was starting to get out of control, like his temper.

"I DON'T KNOW ZACH. I DON'T KNOW WHO HER FATHER IS," I yelled, I covered my face with my hands and sobbed. Sitting down on the kitchen floor.

"Maddi I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you upset. I didn't handle that very well," he sighed, sitting on the floor next to me and putting his arm around my shoulders. He pulled my body into his.

"I just....... Is it..... Is it possible that Avalon is my child?" he asked slowly, as if not to piss me off more.

"W-what?" I sniffled, looking up at him in shock.

"Could Avalon be my child?" he asked again.

"What? No. No there's not any way she could be yours Zach," I answered, pulling away from him.

"Ok look Maddison, just listen for a moment. I'm going to say this without trying to upset you further. But just think about it for a moment. I mean she looks nothing like Ryan and you've already said she's not his. So just think about it, is there any possible way she could be mine? I know several people have already said she looks like me. I've also seen her with my own eyes and I can't disagree. She also looks exactly like Mariann," he stated, looking into my eyes.

"I just.... Just don't know Zach..... I don't think there is," I sighed.

"Ok let me ask this what is the last thing you remember about us?" he asked.

"Uhhhhh that night of your stupid junior party. When you wanted me to go and I couldn't and we broke up," I responded.

"Geez that far back," he cringed.

"Yep pretty much," I answered.

"Ok than, well would you be willing to do a paternity test?" he asked.

"Why?" I asked, curiously.

"Wouldn't you like to find out who her father is? If not for you, at least for her," he asked.

"I....... Yeah I would. I would love to know who her father is," I replied, I almost felt giddy at the thought of Avalon being Zach's.

"What about Alisha?" I asked, suddenly remembering her.

"What about her? She has no say in this," he replied, once again a look passing over his features.

"Ok, I'm just thinking of your marriage." I said.

"This has nothing to do with her and I. But if Avalon is mine, than I'll deal with Alisha when the time comes. Alright?" he asked.

"Ok," I answered.

After Zach left I sat in living room and thought about mine and his whole discusion. Part of me was scared and the other part of me felt relieved at the thought of figuring out who Avalon's father was. Than I thought about Ryan and what he would think. Than also what would happen when Alisha found out. Would she say I tricked Zach into sleeping with him? Would she try and take Avalon from me? I guess I would have to take one thing at a time as they hit me.
