Fate Has A Way

Chapter 3

The last couple of days for Avalon and I to say the least were quit hectic. I guess the good thing was that Ryan and had already had an idea where we had wanted to live. So as soon as we reached Travis and Ally's house after they had picked us up from the airport and we got settled at their place. I had called the Real Estate Agent right away and set up an appointment to see the house the next day. Ally had taken Avalon and I the next day while Travis was at practice to see the house.

I had fallen in love with the house as soon as we pulled up. It was a beautiful two story house, with a porch and was fenced in. It had a large back yard that Avalon was going to love playing in. The house was everything that I wanted. I had told the Agent we would take it and she had laughed and asked "shouldn't your spouse see it first" or course my only response was "who cares what he thinks. We'll take it anyways." Which had got a laugh out of the Agent and Ally. A few hours later the papers for the house were signed.

After seeing the house Ally had showed me where the closest grocery store was and park and the rink. The house was luckily in close proximity to all of those things. She had even showed me where one of the local elementary schools was at. But Ryan and I had already decided to put Avalon in a private school, not to be snobbish and show off our money. But it was to keep her safe and it was something we wanted. Several of the other players on the Devils who had kids, sent their kids to a private school and only had good things to say about this school.

The good thing with having a house was we had somewhere to live. The bad thing was our stuff wasn't supposed to arrive for a few more days. But at least we had somewhere to put it. But we didn't have a place to stay until our stuff got here. Luckily Ally and Travis were nice enough to put Avalon and I up with a place to stay. The first day and a half were good days, but this last day and a half Travis had been irritable.

Ally had assured me that it wasn't me that was making him irritable. It had something to do with his captain and the team. In the seven years I had known Travis and considered him a friend, I had never seen him act the he was. I could only hope that these last few days at the Zajack household went by smoothly. So that everything could go back to normal for Travis and Ally.

I had talked to Ryan everyday since I got here. If I was lucky it was twice a day, although most of the talking had been through text messages. When I had been lucky enough to actually speak on the phone with him. I was lucky if I got a complete sentence out of him. We still hadn't talked about what he wanted to before I left and was avoiding the subject. He "promised" we would talk about it when he got here, that it wasn't something to discuss over the phone. I was getting frustrated that he wouldn't talk about what he needed to, and I was missing him terribly.

***********************************************************************************************

It was early morning the day the movers were supposed to arrive. Ally had offered to come with me and help direct the movers where to put furniture. But I had declined the offer and asked instead if she would watch Avalon one last time. I didn't feel comfortable having Avalon running around while the movers were trying to move things. Of course Ally had more than happily agreed to watch Ava. I knew Ally adored Avalon, but I felt bad for leaving Ava with her when she had a two year old to look after.

I was dressed in a pair of comfortable black yoga pants and an old t-shirt of Zach's that I had stolen from him when we were kids. I was tossing my strawberry hair up into a messy bun heading towards the kitchen, when I stopped abruptly outside in the hallway. I could hear Travis and Ally having a quiet heated argument. I hated eavesdropping because I wasn't one of those kind of people that listened to other peoples conversations. But it was like an oncoming train wreck and you couldn't help but be nosey and listen in.

I scrunched my eyebrows together because I was desperately trying to concentrate on what was being said. But it was hard to figure out what they were talking about since they were talking lowly and I could only make out a few words here and there. It was obvious they were talking about someone but not themselves. I inched along the wall as quietly as I could to get closer to the door, to hear better.

"She needs to tell him Al," Travis said.

"Tell him? Tell him what exactly?" Ally sighed.

"I don't know Ally. But I just know she needs to tell him. I can't keep this up anymore," Travis sighed.

'Who are they talking about? And tell who what?' I thought to myself, scrunching my nose again.

"How is she supposed to tell him anything? When she herself says she doesn't know," Ally hissed.

"Ally I don't know but something needs to be done. It's like walking on god damn eggshells around here. And it's making me irritable. I mean she looks like his damn clone it's not even funny. I mean she has to know, I mean somewhere inside she knows she is his. I can't keep this from him Al," Travis sighed, I could hear the frustration in his voice.

I was clearly becoming confused as who this 'she and he' were.

"Trav, she's my best friend and I believe her when she says she doesn't remember. There's a whole part of a year she doesn't remember. I'm not denying that little girl looks just like him, but it's up to her if she tells him or not." Ally snaps quietly.

I suck in a deep breath and hold it hoping they didn't hear me, as I realize their talking about Avalon and I. A part of me wants to storm in there and demand to know what the hell Travis's problem is. But another part wants to stay put and give me any clue as to who Avalon's father is, seeming as that's the 'he' their referring to.

"God Dammit Alison I can't do this, I can't keep this from him. He'll hate me if I've kept this from him and I knew all along. Not only are we on the same team, but he's also my Captain. And it's not just about being on the same team and keeping peace. He's my Best Friend, actually he's more than that. He's like a brother to me," Travis snaps, than the sound of a hand coming down on the table and a chair being pushed back.

I decide now should be the time I make my presence known. I walk into the kitchen, acting like I'm still fixing my hair.

"Morning," I say happily, and look up.

Ally's sitting at the kitchen table and looking down at it like its the most interesting thing in the world. Even though she's not looking at me I can tell she's fighting off tears. Travis is standing by the sink with his dishes. He glances over at me and nods, I can see the strain in his face.

"So big day today, huh?" Ally asks trying to sound cheerful, wiping under her eyes and smiling at me.

"Yeah," I replied.

"Have you spoken to Ryan?" Travis asked snipply.

"Travis," Ally says quietly.

"Nevermind," he snaps, and storms out of the kitchen

"What was that about?" I asked, turning to look at Ally after I lost sight of Travis's back.

"Nothing," she sighs.

"Al," I say quietly.

"So you sure you don't want my help" she asks, with a smile changing the subject.

"Nope. Sure you don't mind watching Avalon?" I ask, looking back to where Travis stormed out.

"Nope," she replied.

"Ok, well I guess I should get going" I say.

Ally only nods and gets up to go to her purse and dig out her keys. She hands them over and smiles. Than starts cleaning up the kitchen. I watch her for a minute, than grab a banana before I head out to my new place. I just couldn't wait to get into my new place tonight. Maybe later when I bring Ally's car back and get Avalon and she takes us to our house, I can ask her what her and Travis where talking about.
