"Ally" called Ashley "Hey where'd ya go. You zoned out on me." "Sorry" said Ashley "I am a mess when he is around. I just thinking back to the day I met him. I should have ran at first sight of Letang." "Nope, we wouldn't have Nat" replied Ashley "She is worth every tear. Plus I'm not sure many women would have the ability to run from Letang." "He's practically married to Catherine." reported Ally "They have Alex who is two. I am hoping since Alex he is better at not picking up random chicks." "Damn it, why are the pretty ones always gay or taken." asked Ashley pouting "What about Capt. Canada? Had no idea that Sid the Kid was pretty." "How about no?" replied Ally "I have enough Pens causing havoc in my life." "Mommy" yelled Natalya "They are calling for the clowns. Am I pretty?" "You are perfect Zvezdy" said Ally "Go hurrying Miss Lauren is calling. Ash and I will watch." "Will you be with Papa" she asked as we fluffed her tiny tutu "We will see Evgeni after the final curtain. He wants us to all go to dinner.""Uncle Sid and Kris" she asked as they were being led from the room. "I'm sure everyone will be in the lobby waiting Natalya." replied Ally "Do your best." He came from Pittsburgh just to watch her dance after he played in New York last night. " answered Ally "It's not as simple as working the third shift in a coal mine he is a professional hockey player and an Olympian. You can all stop fucking judging and her name is Natalya not Natalie." Ally walked off in a huff with Ashley trailing behind her. Ashley didn't say anything to Ally until they climbed in their seats. Ally was intently watching the pan flutes. Ashley finally busted out laughing. "Sssshhh" said Ally looking at Ashley. Why in the hell was she laughing? Ally was maniacally laughing "You are laughing over the sound track." "You drop a bomb the size of Hiroshima, tell the dance moms to fuck off, and then walk out like the queen of England" whispered Ashley "You just told them everything about Evgeni in one breath." "Well they pissed me off" replied Ally "Great now they will all be staring and talking." "Maybe you should have told them he is Russian mafia." giggled Ashley as the pan flutes left the stage. Ally and Ashley both clapped as Mother Ginger rolled onto the stage. All the tiny clowns came bounding out from under the skirt. They danced, hopped, and wiggled around the stage in their tiny yellow tutus. Ally was proud of Nat she had her arms in correct position and she was executing her movements perfectly. When the girls crawled back under Mother Ginger's skirt Ally and Ashley headed back to the dressing room with the rest of the clown moms. Ally stopped and told Ashley that Nat would be held backstage until final bow and that she was going to grab Evgeni's mother. As she climbed the stairs towards Evgeni and his family she felt multiple sets of eyes on her. She leaned over and whispered quietly to Evgeni. "Would your mother want to come back to the dressing room and help get Natalya dressed for dinner? She won't be back there until after final bow but she can walk back with me." "Da" said Evgeni he smiled up at Ally "She so happy just see Natashka." Evgeni leaned over and spoke with his mother in clipped Russian. Natalia was on her feet and scrambling over her husband and Evgeni before he was even finished. Ally laughed at least she was excited to see her baby girl. "Thank you" said Natalia following Ally to the dressing room. They climbed over the blankets, dolls, clothes, and general carnage that was having 200 k-2nd graders in one room. They went to sit beside Ashley to wait on the girls to return. "It's kind of wild in here" said Ally "Sorry she will be here soon.""I wait forever" said Mrs. Malkin "I know you not know we come. Evgeni he just does. But please let her know us." "I won't ever keep you all away from her. I didn't even in the beginning that was the lawyers." replied Ally. She turned and saw all the tiny clowns running into the room. "Did I do good?" asked Nat bounding over to Ally. "The best Zvezdy" answered Ally "We need to get dressed so you can see your Papa." "Babushka did you see me dance?" asked Nat squeezing her grandmother around the legs. "Da, Natashka. You beautiful dancer." she answered with tears shining in her eyes. Ally felt horrible and happy all at once. She wanted Nat to know all of her family but it was hard to let go off the past. Nat stepped out of her tutu. Ash hung it on the hanger and went to place it on the costume rack. Ally managed to zip Nat back into her frilly dress. She was busy introducing her friends to her grandmother from Russia. Nat was pulling her grandmother through the sea of fluff and sparkles. The last time she saw a smile like that on Natalia Malkin's face was when Evgeni was the winner of Conn Smythe award at the Cup finals. But surely 1st recitals couldn't be as rewarding as the her son being the Cup mvp. Ally and Ashley gathered all of their belongings. They left the blanket in place to hold their spot for in the morning. "Natalya Evgeniya come on your daddy is waiting." "And Uncle Sid and Kris" she replied dragging her grandmother towards the door. "That he can't watch me because I would have to watch him." said Nat seriously. Ashley, Ally, and Mrs. Malkin all laughed because it was true. "No remember Uncle Jay got traded to Nashville" answered Ally walking them closer to the main lobby "Remember we went and watched Uncle Jay play. Because he is closer now." Ally wasn't sure if she was judging or just asking. "They all love Nat. It's like having a bunch of Uncles and a playmate with James in the mix." she answered "Some of them were around when things were very bad with Evgeni." Mrs. Malkin simply nodded as if she understood. "Papa" bellowed Nat as she ran towards Evgeni. He caught her mid jump. They were conversing in Russian. Though Nat had a habit of answering in English and switching back and forth. Evgeni held her up so that she was seeing everything from his 6'3 perspective. Sidney was tickling her as Evgeni held her. She went from Evgeni to Sidney. He gave her a Nutcracker dressed in a Pens hockey uniform. Sid had signed the bottom the gift since it was bearing his number. Kris gave her a kiss on both cheeks. He bragged on her beauty for handing her a bunch of candy cane striped roses. She giggled and kiss Kris back. She kept running her hand over his shorter hair. Kris handed her back to her daddy. Evgeni's parents gave her the nesting dolls. Ally gave her nutcracker shaped like a penguin. Ashley handed her the ballet nutcracker. Evgeni took the box his dad was holding. Ally saw it was from the American Girl store. She just shook her head. Evgeni opened the box to reveal a doll that looked identical to Natalya but was dressed in the white and pink frock of the main character from the Nutcracker Clara. Evgeni handed her the doll. She was busy thanking him and hugging him. She was again speaking in both Russian and English. "I know you say too much" said Evgeni pulling Ally over to his side "I in hurry ask Jenny she say American Girl." "I'm so telling Jen you blamed her" laughed Sid. "Well I am actually kind of surprised it's just the doll Evgeni" she replied looking up at the handsome Russian. Kris and Sid both burst out laughing. "What" asked Ally looking at them like they were mentally ill. "Wait til you see what iz in the trunk" said Kris "I was surprised it would even close" "In his defense I did buy several Christmas things for my Goddaughter" laughed Sidney They were all walking to the cars. When they arrived at the cars Nat wanted to ride with Evgeni. Kris agreed to come with the Ally and Ashley to the Mexican restaurant that Nat chose. Evgeni opened the trunk of the rental car to put Natalya's dance bag inside. Ally saw all the boxes and stuff from the American Girl store. She just looked at Evgeni. "Is Christmas" he said smiling at Ally. "Some from Sid. Some from my parents. A lot from me." Kris kissed her cheek and smiled. Ashley and Kris were then arguing over who was sitting up front. "Hey wait for me" called Sid "They are only speaking Russian in that car. It seems weird to make the 4 year old translate." Ashley shoved Kris to the front seat and climbed in the back with Sidney. "I see 'ow it iz" said Kris "No love for me. But everyone loves Sid." "Did she hurt your monster ego Letang?" asked Ally. "Non, but I like to give Sid hell." laughed Kris. He settled into the seat and grabbed Ally's iPhone. As they navigated out of the traffic towards where Evgeni was parked Kris started laughing. He cued up "Leavin" by Jesse McCartney. "You still like the lil boys that sing like girls." "Um who is singing Letang" she asked "Not me my dear French Canadian." Kris smiled at her. Kris Letang's smile should have to registered as a weapon. "Please Tanger no Jonas Brothers." called Sid from the back seat. Ashley started giggling beside him. Sid looked at the dark haired girl beside him. Why had Geno never mentioned that Ally had an equally hot best friend. He heard Kris cue up that stupid song he played in the locker room. "It iz not the Jonas Brothers. Ashley, Ally, and Kris were all singing along with the high falsetto on the track. Sidney was looking at all of them like they were crazy. "Come on Captain Canada you can sing along." Ashley raised an eyebrow at his high pitched laugh. "Well Captain Canada has a flaw. I'm shocked. I'm calling the media." said Ashley laughing "I thought you had to be good at everything." "Skills competition doesn't involve singing" he fired back as they pulled into a parking spot. Ally and Kris were laughing at the exchange. "Ash crawl at Sid's side the car beside us is sidegoggled." explained Ally. Ashley crawled across the back seat. She was surprised Sid put his hand out to help her out of the car. "Thanks" said Ash smiling at Sid. "We Canadians are mannerly people" said Sidney offering his arm to Ashley. Ally and Kris came to join them on the side walk in front of the local Mexican restaurant. Ally heard Nat long before she saw them. Evgeni was carrying her. He had apparently had enough of his suit coat as had Kris and Sid. Nat was happily chattering in Russian. Her grandparents were nodding at her every word. She would have to take Nat to Russia soon. She would talk to Evgeni about when he wanted to take her. Hopefully, she could go with them if she could get off work. "Nat are you talking them to death" asked Ally "No she perfect" said Vlad Malkin "She lot like Zhyena." "Evgeni wasn't a quiet child" inquired Ashley. "No the quiet come as he get older." said Natalia Malkin "When learn English and he get quiet." "Mama" said Evgeni "I was not bad" "No but you were all boy" said Natalia. When they entered the restaurant Nat waved at Gabriel the owner of the restaurant . "Hey Gabriel" she called "This is my daddy." The guys who worked at the eatery all looked a little shell shocked as they took in the hockey players. They started rapidly talking in Spanish. "We need a big table and cheese dip." It was business as usual for Nat. Ally was following behind the crowd when Gabriel looked at her questioningly. "Chica, you never say who her dad is. Then show up with Team Canada and Russia." asked Gabriel . "I thought you all watched soccer." said Ally Gabriel laughed "Even Mexican's know Crosby and Malkin." Ally just shook her head this was going to be a mess to clean up when Evgeni went back to Pitt. Ally finally made her way to the table. She was looking at the seating arrangements. Nat yelled for her to sit beside daddy. She sat down beside Evgeni. Nat was playing with Kris's phone. She was looking at pictures of Alex. Kris facetimed Pauly so he could talk to Nat. "Uncle Pauly" called Nat the screen. "Wait who are you?" teased Pauly "My favorite girl doesn't look like a grown up ballerina." "It's me" she squealed at the screen "Are you lonely without Uncle Jay? Oh you have Goffrey." "We all miss you Princess" said Pauly "You coming to Columbus?" "Mommy are we going to Lumbus?" asked Nat. "Yes" called Evgeni as Ally said "We'll see." "Glad that is decided" deadpanned Pauly "Uncle Jay said you all are coming to see the ice and lights." "Yes it's a big hotel and they have an ice grinch" replied Nat "He is life size so I will be the size of a who." "Make Uncle Jay take pictures." said Pauly "You are beautiful Nat. In the light blue dress she really did look like a snow maiden. He couldn't stand being this close without touching her. He put his arm around her. He was pleased when she didn't flinch away. Ally was watching as Nat climbed across laps until she had managed to snuggle up to her Ded. Vlad looked like he was in heaven holding the little girl. She was talking to Natalia. "Spasibo vy lyubite." whispered Evgeni into her ear. She turned to face him. Those blue eyes flashed at him. "Mama schastliva" "I'm not your love, Evgeni" she replied "I'm glad your mother is enjoying her time with Nat." Evgeni leaned closer to her ear "Vsegda" he whispered. She shivered in her seat. She hated that she still reacted to him that way. Their meal came and they ate. It proved to be too much excitement for Nat. She was passed out asleep on Evgeni's shoulder. Evgeni stood up and tossed a credit card on the table. "No G" said Ally "You don't have to pay." "Is my baby's first recital. Of course I pay." replied Evgeni "No call me G." Gabriel came by and collected the card and bill. While the other waiters collected plates. Gabriel returned for Evgeni's signature. "Oh lil chica fell asleep." he said looking at Nat "Tell her we owe her fried ice cream." "I will Gabriel. Thanks for putting us back here away from everyone." replied Ally "See you sometime this week. We'll be in for lunch." Evgeni easily carried Nat where Ally struggled with her. She petted her dark head. Ally threw her coat over Natalya. Evgeni steadied it with his hand so she remained covered. Once outside they were all standing around the cars. Natalya stirred from her sleep "Papa you stay" asked Natalya.
"Nat your daddy has to go practice and play hockey" reminded Ally. "I stay until Friday" said Evgeni "If okay with your mama." Ally looked at Ashley in a panicked manner. Nat was cheering because her daddy was staying. Ally was wondering what she was going to do with everyone. "We have to go back to Pittsburg tonight. We have a flight out of Huntington WV at 12:15 am." said Sidney throwing an arm around Ally "Mr. and Mrs. Malkin are going to fly home with us. G needs to be in Florida by 7pm Friday." He squeezed her against his side. "G needs sometime with you all." Kris came over and hugged her. "Eh Belle, you spend some time with Geno. Put 'im to work with the bebe. Give 'im a chance." "I'm scared Kris" she whispered "I can't do this again." "It will never be the same Belle. But it could be better. Evgeni loves you and the bebe. 'e knows 'e fucked this all up. But give 'im a real chance. 'e will make you see 'e still loves you." replied Kris "And if 'e fucks it up this time I will kick 'is ass and you can always marry Pauly." Ally started laughing as Kris kissed her cheek. "Bye Kris. See you soon. Does Pauly know you volunteered him as tribute?" "Non, but it will not matter. Unless you think you might want to marry Nealer?" he teased "Depending on the day Vero might give you Flowers." "You are an evil Frenchman Kris Letang" she replied "Oui, but you love me." he said stealing another kiss. Evgeni watched the exchange between Ally and Kris. He always wondered why she wasn't drawn to Kris as more than a friend. But from the day they met it was a teasing sibling style relationship. It still however hurt that they had inside jokes and she was much more talkative to Letang than him. He hadn't even known that she was taking Natashka down to Nashville to see Lazy play. He couldn't pin point what bothered him about that particular arrangement. But it might be that neither her or Lazy mentioned it. "You take care of them" he said to Kris pointing at his parents. "Oui, no worries" said Kris he motioned for Evgeni to come closer "Do not screw this up mon ami. She iz listening. She iz scared. Stop fretting over Nealer. 'e is more of a pet than even me. It iz you she loves. Make 'er see it." Evgeni nodded at Kris. He hugged his parents while the guys transferred all the stuff in the trunk to Ally's Escape. Evgeni was still lugging a sleeping Natalya. He didn't seem to mind. Both his parents pressed kisses on the sleeping girl. Before getting in the car his mother pressed something in his hand and told him to fix all of their mistakes. Evgeni looked down at his hand and saw the ring he had bought the day he found out Ally was pregnant with Natalya. His mother had taken it to Russia. She knew he wouldn't defy her and buy another. Now he just had to convince Ally that it was his intention before anyone else knew she was pregnant. He had 3 days then he would be back with the team. Evgeni fastened Nat in her car seat. He went around to the passenger side and crawled in the backseat beside Nat. "Giant Russians upfront" said Ashley looking at him. "No I ride beside Natashka. Please I see her so little." he replied. Ashley shut the door and climbed up front. They headed towards their apartment. It was a quiet drive. Ally noticed that Evgeni had held Nat's hand the entire way home. She looked so fragile beside her daddy. When they arrived at the apartment he immediately unbuckled Nat and picked her up. "I can get her Evgeni" said Ashley as she unlocked the door "You can get what you need from the car." "Bags will wait" he said "not Natashka. Where her room?" Ally kicked off her heels at the door. Evgeni followed her up the stairs into Nat's room. The entire room was Natalya to a tee. Everything he had given or sent for Natashka was right there in her room. He wanted to laugh and cry. The entire room smelled like his baby. She wasn't even a baby any more. "Let me unbutton her dress and pull off the tights." instructed Ally. Evgeni laid the sleeping child on her bed. Nat stirred and looked at her mommy then searched for her daddy with frantic eyes. "I here" said Evgeni coming into her line of vision "I be here in the morning Natashka." Ally then managed to wrestle her into her Pens shirt that she slept in. Evgeni leaned down and kissed her forehead and smoothed her hair back. He started to leave but Nat held on to his hand. "Papa will you sleep with me" she asked. Evgeni was staring into his own eyes sat in Ally's fine features. "Da" he said toeing off his shoes "I not sure I fit, Zvezdy. But we try." Ally watched him fit his large frame into the twin size lavender and white princess bed. He was speaking to her in Russian. Ally could only understand parts of the conversation but it sound like snow queen. She guessed he was telling her the Frozen story in Russian. Ally slipped out of the room so as not to disturb them. Ally entered the kitchen and saw Ashley at the table with two glasses and a bottle of Maker's Mark. She poured a double in the second glass and thrust it at Ally. Ally didn't realize how wound up she was until she drained the bourbon. "So what are you going to do with the Russian for three days?" asked Ashley. "Not a fucking clue" said Ally sipping her second bourbon "I can go to mom and dad's so he can have my room" offered Ashley. "No he can have my room and I can crash on the couch." said Ally "You can come snuggle with me" teased Ashley "Not a bad offer" laughed Ally "What am I going to do?" "Let him help you this week. Make him see what you do in a given week." "The daddy part is easy" replied Ally "It's the still loving him part that is the bitch." "Then I suggest you tell him how you feel" said Ashley "I'm pretty sure the big Russian is head over heels for you. His eyes never leave you or Nat." "But it can change in the blink of an eye." "I would climb that boy like a tree" said Ash "Hence why you leave me home when you go see Uncle Jay." "Go to bed" said Ally rolling her eyes. Evgeni laid in the tiny princess bed. Maybe he should have bought her at least a queen size bed. Her bedding was Monster High. Ally had set it up perfectly for the little girl. She had everything she wanted and needed. The light lavender walls were beautiful. He wasn't sure if he should laugh or cry when he noticed the life size wall mural of himself. He hadn't sent it. So he guess Ally bought it for Nat. He saw the smaller ones of Lazy, Sid, Tanger, and Flowers. His baby was softly snoring beside him. He wanted this every night. He hadn't noticed that Ally was back in the room. "She perfect" said Evgeni looking at Nat "You do so good for her. Why you ruin pretty room with ugly hockey." "Nothing would do after Jay showed her his new Nashville one. Jay sent them all up to her after we went to the last Preds game." she explained. She saw his face fall. "Evgeni Jay is like big kid with her. It's good for him. You love him like a brother why so upset." "You so close to Kris and Lazy. I miss" he said shrugging his shoulder. He sat up and climbed out of the bed "I get my bag. We get all stuff tomorrow." "She isn't getting all of that tomorrow" replied Ally "It's Christmas remember. I will help you wrap them so I can put them under the tree for you." "Her Clara need the bed where she sleep" he said smiling at Ally. "One outfit and the bed. Everything else is Christmas Evgeni." she replied. He nodded. He put his shoes back on and headed out the door. Evgeni returned with his carry on bag and duffle bag. Ally was in her room getting ready to change the sheets.
"What doing?" "Stripping the bed so you will have clean sheets" replied Ally "I sleep on couch." said Evgeni Ally laughed. She took him down stairs and showed him the plaid couch and the floral chintz couch. Ally could barely lay on the couches and she was only 5 ft tall. "You furniture for dollhouse" he laughed "No worries I sleep in floor or with Natashka." "You won't be fit to play" she responded "You get my bed. I'll crash with Ash, Nat, or on the couch. Just let me change my clothes." Evgeni wondered the hall and stairs of the apartment. He looked at all the pictures of Natashka. He has the same ones. Ally even hung them just like this in Pittsburgh. Evgeni ventured into the kitchen. He saw the two glasses and the bottle of bourbon. He looked at the lip prints on the glasses. He grabbed the one with the pale lipstick and poured some bourbon. He sat in the chair and drank the bourbon out of Ally's cup. She came back into the kitchen "We have clean glasses." she admonished. "No make mess" Evgeni looked at Ally. She had braided her hair to the side and the braid hung heavy over her shoulder. She was wearing a black tank top and bright neon pink Nike pros. She was scrubbed free of make-up. But Evgeni could smell the raspberry vanilla scent he associated with Ally. She was perfection. "We've got an early morning and it's past 11. I need to get some sleep. I'm sure you are jet lagged. Let's go to bed." she said. He wished she meant it. "Towels are in the closet in the bathroom. Feel free to use anything you need." Ally retreated to the living room. Evgeni headed upstairs. Ally heard him moving around and then she heard the shower. She attempted to watch the news. But all she could think about was Evgeni. He was here. She heard the shower shut off and realized she had been spaced out. Ally turned out the light but left the TV on. Evgeni came out of the bathroom. Since Ashley and Nat were in the apartment he had pulled on a pair of lounge pants. He managed to plug in his phone. He got a message from Sid that they were waiting on the plane. He stretched out in Ally's bed. Her smell engulfed him. He couldn't stand it he wanted her here with him. He laid in the bed and tossed and turned for 20 minutes. It was 5 until midnight. He was out of the bed and headed to the living room before his brain could tell his heart to stand down. Ally heard him come into the room. She wasn't asleep but she had her eyes closed. She let out a squeak of surprise when he picked her up bridal style. "What the hell are you doing Evgeni?" "I no sleep in bed with you down here. Can't" he replied. Evgeni was taking the steps to the stairs 2 at a time. He walked into the bedroom and deposited her on the bed. Pick you side of bed." When she didn't move he said "хотеть". With that simple please she crawled to the spot against the wall. He climbed in the bed beside her. She set the alarm on her phone. She knew she should argue with him. She should get up. But she couldn't. "Evgeni will you turn off the lights." He got up from the bed. Ally took in the sight that was Evgeni Malkin. He moved across the room with an ease that only he possessed. Rolling muscle. Lots of muscle. He was bigger than he had been 5 years before. He climbed back into the bed with her. The minute his head hit the pillow he pulled Ally over to lay on his chest. "Ev this is a bad idea." she stated but she made no motion to pull away. He was rubbing circles on her back. He looked down at her on his chest. His mouth was on hers before she even had a chance to protest. It was over as quickly as it began. "Spokoynoy nochi" he said and kissed top of her head. "Goodnight" she responded in English. Ally gave up the pretense that she didn't want to be there. She kissed him just above his beating heart. Evgeni was the last person she had been with. She had been a full time mom.
