A New Leaf
Chapter 5- TEXT HIM DAMMIT
I woke up to the sound of my phone alarm going off. Forcing myself not to hit snooze, I quiety hopped out of bed, careful not to make too much noise and wake up Erin, who was sleeping off a definite hangover from last night. Walking into my small kitchenette, which Erin's bed was partially blocking, I made a cup of coffee and downed it as fast as I could before running to the showers before work. Even though it was Sunday, the clinic was staying open, because the leafs had a big game tonight and some players were coming in for last minute treatments.
I decided to wear a thin black under armour hoodie, with a pair of black leggings and my red converse. I Also opted to pull my hair up into a high bun. The upside to being an intern was that I didn't have to wear dress clothes like all the other doctors. Before leaving my dorm room, I quickly grabbed my keys and left to find where I parked my car last night.
After locating the car not too far from the dorms, I got in and drove to the clinic. I was really looking forward to today, as we would be seeing quite a lot of athletes come in, which would mean more tasks for me, instead of just watching. When I first arrived, I was ordered by Dr. Williams to set up 3 rooms for the other doctors, who would be working all day with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I efficiently set up every room with the right equipment for stretching and injury maintenance. When I was finished, I walked out into the waiting room, where some players were already beginning to sit. Truthfully the only player I recognized out of the 7 that were there was Tyler, who opened his mouth to say something to me but was interrupted by a doctor.
"Mr. Bozak if you could follow me to my office please." Dr. Ferron said, barely looking up from his clipboard. Tyler looked at the male doctor, then back at me, a plea for mercy on his face, to which I couldn't help but laugh at. Dr. Ferron was a middle aged man, with short greyish-black hair and weathered skin. He may not be the players favourite person to see, but his work was top notch.
I spent the day with Dr. Williams, who tended to many players, with cases that ranged from torn ligament therapy, to simple muscle massages with foam rollers. The entire team brought such a strong energy to the entire clinic, which made me instantly realize how happy I would be pursuing a career in this. Plus the way players faces lit up when they saw that they had a young woman working on them was a great, not to mention hilarious, perk.
"That was a hectic day," Dr. Williams said, sitting down at the big chair behind her desk. "I hate being under such a time limit but helping those players makes everything worth it."
I nodded my head in agreement before taking a sip of coffee that I made after everyone had left. "Definitely, I'm so grateful for this opportunity, by the way."
"Oh I'm happy to help anyone getting into such a great profession, and you pick up fast, an asset to anyone on my staff!" Dr. Williams smiled. "Just so you know, we'll be closed tomorrow, because we were open today', so enjoy your day off!"
I thanked Dr. Williams once again before leaving her office and quickly walking out to my car. When I got in my car and turned on my cell phone, I had about 30 texts from Erin. I read the first few;
-Where the hell are you
- Oh right internship lol
- What's this phone number you left on the counter
- Okay it was in your purse not on the counter I lied
- Who's Tyler oooooohhhhhh
- I'm gonna call the number
I totally forgot Tyler had given me his number last night, and I prayed to god that Erin hadn't called him. Not that I was into him or anything, but if he turned out to be a decent guy, I didn't want him to think I was as psychotic as my friend. On the other hand I also didn't want her to call him and have her play wingman for me, because I was definitely not in the state of mind for a relationship, especially one with an NHL player.

Walking into my dorm room I was immediately grabbed and pinned against the wall by Erin, and she slammed the door behind me.
"How could you not tell me you got a guys number? And why the hell haven't you texted it. " she said, waving the napkin with Tyler's number on it in my face.
"I don't know. Why don't you text HOTTY at six o'clock and not worry about me?" I replied nervously.
Erin let me go from my crippled position on the wall, and I went to go sit on my bed.
"Because I danced with him but decided he was hotter than he was smart. I may seem easy, but I need brains too you know." Erin said pulling at her brown curls before she pounced on my bed, stealing my phone. "NOW HOW ABOUT WE TEXT THIS TYLER GUY."
She punched in his number, but I managed to pry the phone out of her hand. She hadn't sent anything, luckily, but I knew I wouldn't hear the end of it tonight if I didn't send a text.
"Maybe I don't want to talk to him, Erin." I said focusing on the tv instead of her.
"Maybe you need to man up. When was the last date you went on? When was your last hookup? Live, Mila, you're so boring sometimes" I cringed. The last hookup was the same day Jonathan and I broke up. Maybe she was right, I was single, now is the time to start living. I typed a text message but panicked before hitting send.
M: Hey! This is Mila! How's it going?
It was casual, but I didn't have enough nerve to hit send.
"Oh for the love of god. "Erin yelled, " Just text him dammit!" Before I could think twice her hand already hit the send button. Fuck.
T: Not much, just doing some pre-game pump up with the boys. You?
M: Just hanging out in the dorms, gonna watch the game!
"Pre-game? What the hell does that mean?" Erin intervened.
"He plays hockey." I said nonchalantly.
"For who?"
"The leafs." I smirked.
"Bullshi- WAIT, THATS NOT THE ROOKIE TYLER BOZAK IS IT?" Erin basically yelled.
I shifted my weight and laid back on my headboard.
"I don't know. Maybe." I said cockily.
"AND YOU DONT WANT TO TALK TO DATE HIM BECAUSE??????" Erin was practically on top of me , still screaming.
The rest of the night was spent with Erin attached to me, making me text Tyler. She was a leafs fangirl, and I'm pretty sure she was more excited than I was about having even a rookies number.
Love it :)
