I had totally forgot the one problem with dating a Capitals player. Alexander Ovechkin. I could tell from his facial expression that he totally recognized me. I took a deep breath hoping that me that he wouldn’t call me out. Not now at least. “Hi” I said. “I’m Palmer.”

“Alex” He said as he shot me a look. I hoped Nicky didn’t notice. I really liked him and I didn’t want this to screw things up for us. We all sat down in the family room and made awkward conversation for the longest fifteen minutes of my life. Finally Nicky’s phone rang and he said he needed to answer it. He got up and left the room.

I looked down at the ground. I knew what was coming. “What the hell are you doing here?” Asked Alex. Shit. I didn’t really know what to say. Why was this such a huge deal?

“I moved here last year.” I answered.

“Yeah.” He said obviously annoyed. “What happen to your little boyfriend?”

“I caught him cheating on me.” I answered. “I had to get away from him.”

“Of course. What were you expecting?" He scoffed. "So you come here?”

“Yes. My parents live here.” I answered. “Seriously, Alex, this isn’t that big of a deal anymore. I tought we were done with this”

“Are you kidding me?” He snapped. "We were okay until you come here to get with my best friend. Does he even know?

“Shh.” I said. “I seriously don’t want Nicky to find out this way. Please I really like him.”

“Whatever.” He answered. “I don’t know how you could’ve even say you love him. Or stayed with him for a year. Or stayed in Pennsylvania to be with him. You were there for a month to play a tournament and then you never come back"

“I know.” I said quietly. “and I really am sorry I left.”

“You ducked out on your best friend.” He answered “And all for Si --”

“Stop.” I whispered as I heard Nicky coming. “Hey guys.” He said as he walked in. “You guys getting to know each other?”
