dude, that's my sister!

chapter 07.

“I know why you ditched me the other night.” His voice was rough, but I could easily pick out exactly what he was saying. I silently praised that he wasn't here in person, or he would easily pick up on my silent terror.

“Hey, Johnny, what's up? Oh, I'm good, thanks! I miss you, too, we should hang soon!” I tried to laugh, but it simply came out as awkward — luckily, he chuckled on the other end. “What are you talking about?”

“I'm assuming you've seen the stuff about Kaner —” I stayed silent, simply replying with a mumble, which he clearly took as a yes. “I thought it was you.”

I fell utterly silent, scrambling to think of some sort of response, “Are you serious? Yeah, as if I could get Patrick Kane — thanks for the belief though, really.”

“No problem,” he laughed, “I got that same reaction from Kane, but, hey if you've found someone bring him to the game tonight!”

“Uh, yeah, sure! I'll see you then, I guess.”

“Alright,” I could hear the sense of victory in his voice, “see ya!”

He ended the call, and I dropped my phone on the couch beside me with defeat.

How the hell was I supposed to find someone to come to a Chicago game with me, pretend to be my boyfriend, and do so while having to meet the team? I picked my phone up again, scrolling through my contacts rapidly, stopping at someone I knew would pull through.

“Hey, Andrew? Yeah, I'm gonna need you to do me a huge favour.”

( * see: characters - andrew mcbay. )

“Okay — so — you — wanna — come ———— to my —— game ————— tonight?”my words were mumbled against her lips between kisses, my hands trailing over her fervently, holding her against the wall.

“Uh, yeah ——— you ———— can get —— me — in?” she started at working on my shirt, ripping open the buttons without any care.

Allison's fingers had tugged on the same shirt, gently, swiftly... not as rough, nor careless... Jesus, I sound like some whipped idiot.

“Uh ——” I pulled away, stepping back to begin working on my shirt again, “just be at the arena around 7:00, I'll make sure they know your name...”

“Alana,” she game me a skeptical look, picking her shirt up off the ground to pull it back on. “Whatever, I'll see you then... Is Sharp gonna be there? I'm a —— fan.”

“There's gonna be more than him there... trust me.”

“Call me babe whenever you can — we met in school, obviously, and we've been going out for...”

“Two weeks?”

“Yeah, yeah that's good. Okay, you ready?” We were just getting seated, Andrew looking more excited than nervous, as opposed to myself who was practically shaking as the Blackhawks skated out. I smiled lightly as I saw my brother, trying to send a wave in his direction, but he clearly didn't catch it. Patrick, however, spotted me immediately as my smile dropped. He nodded in my direction, although his expression was anything but pleased, either.

“You're Toews' sister, right?” The voice came from a girl to my right, tall, skinny, with practically flawless brunette hair — basically, every girl's dream.

“... uh, yeah.”

“Alright, Patty told me to sit with you —— I'm Alana, his date,” she sent a fake smile in my direction, extending a hand to shake mine, and then Andrew's.

“Great!” I mumbled with fake enthusiasm, feeling Andrew's arm tighten around me.

“Well, I'm glad this is gonna be fun,” he chuckled, and we both shook our heads as the puck dropped.

“We met in class, and we just kept going out, I guess. What's it been —— two weeks?”

That was my cue to save him from conversing with my brother and Patrick alone, “Yeah, just about,” I smiled, my expression dropping, however, when I met Patrick's glance. I cleared my throat, an arm curling around Andrew's, “Anyway, are you done attacking him yet? I kinda wanted to bring him home in one piece.” Everyone smirked lightly, although Patrick rolled his eyes, turning back to snake an arm around his date and pull her in for an obviously forced and uncomfortable kiss. I tried to avoid staring, leaning in to hug Johnny with a smile, “Great win, see you soon?”

“Yeah, definitely —— nice meeting you, Andrew,” he managed to smile, reaching a hand out to shake his, most likely trying to enforce some sort of intimidation.

I remember thinking it hurt, seeing her with him.

Not a great, massive pain, but a sharp lingering one, one that flared up as she brushed a hand over his chest or smiled as he spoke. One that made me feel crippled as she kissed him, and relieved when she let go.

Alana tried congratulating me on my goal, but it was useless — we'd won, but I was sorely losing right now. This guy shows up, all pretty and in good shape, talking about business and Allison like he was some sort of god. I was stuck with a trashy girl from the bar who'd left half the night to send snapchats with Sharp, who simply smiled and made it clear that'd he'd told me that chicks loved older guys.

I remember that this lingering pain, the insane jealousy, didn't really stop. Not even when she was giving out goodbye hugs once Andrew had gone to grab the car for them. But even when she was alone, she clearly avoided me strategically, leaving me for last when Alana was finally by me again.

“Hey, how 'bout you say bye to Sharp and I'll meet you by the exit,” I mumbled, and she didn't really fight.

When I looked back, I slipped my hands in my pocket, a smirk curling at my lips as surprise shifted onto her expression, realizing it was just me again. “Heading out so soon?”

“Where's your date? Emily? Rachel? — Do you remember her name?”

“Oh, Alana? She's off wheeling Sharp, actually,” she couldn't suppress a laugh that time, shaking her head as she reached out a hand. I looked curiously at it, shaking my head and grabbing it, pulling her aside into an empty hall, away from everyone else. She stepped back against a wall, looking up at me with arms crossed.

“Seriously? I've got someone waiting for me.”

“And you'd rather be with him than me?” I questioned, canting my head as I stepped closer to her, “Because I know I'd rather be here than anywhere else.”

“Patrick ——” she pleaded, her glance reaching mine for a moment before breathing a mumbled shit, pulling me against her. We stayed there for a moment, mouths hovering over one another, but neither really making a move. Finally, I reached my hands to hold her face, pulling her lips against mine. She was hesitant, but gradually returned my kisses, my tongue grazing over her teeth as she curved against me, hands gripping desperately at my shirt.

It was only for a few moments, though, before she pushed my away with a scared look. “I —— uh, good job, tonight. Bye, Patrick.”

She shuffled away with her head down, pushing through the doors without glancing back, leaving me in an empty hall with my phone vibrating, texts from Alana being the only reminder of why the hell I wasn't chasing after her.
