Save Me
New Girl in the Room
It was your first day as the official trainer for the Pittsburgh Penguins, to say you were nervous was an understatement. Hopefully it wasn’t going to be too bad being the only female on the training staff. As you pulled up to the parking garage and showed your pass you were quickly ushered in. Thankfully it was early so you didn’t have to deal with a lot of traffic coming in and out. You quickly found the door and slipped inside. Now to find Mr. Lemieux’s office. The CEC was huge, a lot bigger than I had thought. There were so many different hallways and doors. Looking at your watch I noticed that I only had about five minutes to get to his office otherwise I was going to be late.
“Ah, you must be Keeley. Welcome to the team. I’m Mario Lemieux. It’s nice to finally meet you!” He said firmly shaking my hand.
“It’s nice to meet you as well.” I said with a smile.
“How about we go meet the team? I’m sure that they’ll love to meet you.” He said leading me down a long hall way. He stopped in front of two large doors. “I’ll go in first and make sure that everyone is decent. Then I’ll call you in.” I nodded in agreement and watched as he walked into the locker room. I could hear hoots and holler’s as the seconds ticked by. The butterflies in my stomach were starting to flutter once again and I was getting more and more nervous.
“Alright Keeley. They’re ready for you.” Mario said peaking his head out from the locker room. I took a deep breath and walked into the room. The guys hadn’t noticed my presence yet and they were all talking and joking around with each other. Mario stood next to me and cleared his throat. I was suddenly very aware of the eyes that were now focused on me.
“Guys, I have someone that I would like for you to meet. She is going to introduce herself and I expect for you guys to give her your full attention. Is that understood?” The players nodded in agreement. Some of them took a seat on the floor in front of us while the others just sat in their stalls. Mario nodded in my direction. It was my turn to speak.
“Thank you Mr. Lemieux, for the introduction.” I smiled at him. “Like Mr. Lemieux said, my name is Keeley and I will be the new athletic trainer. I am excited to be here and to work with all of you. If you guys need anything you can always come to my office.” I smiled and took a look around the room at the players for the first time. A few of them nodded and grunted a welcome as they exited for practice. A few players hung back. Mario had left the room telling me that he was going to watch practice and let me get settled. Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal, Sidney Crosby and James Neal stood in front of me. I wasn’t short but these guys were giants compared to me.
“What can I do for you guys?” I asked with a smile.
“We want to welcome you to team.” Evgeni said, the rest of the guys nodded in agreement. “We kind of have to get to practice but would you like to come out to lunch with us after? We can get to know each other a little better.” Jordan asked with his signature smile. I wasn’t sure if he was flirting or if he really did want to get to know the girl who would be their new athletic trainer. I debated it in my mind for a moment before I spoke. “I have a lot of work to do, but come to my office after practice and I’ll let you know. Does that sound good?” I asked. The boys nodded and walked out of the locker room and down the hall to the rink.
“Oh Keeley!” Jordan sang coming into my office. I couldn’t help but laugh. “Yes, Jordy?” I asked turning away from my computer. “Whatcha doin?” He took a seat on my desk knocking a few things over. I rolled my eyes. “Working. What are you doing?” I asked with a slight smile. “Oh just the usual, annoying you.” Jordy did have a habit of coming in here just to bug me. Actually all of the guys did. I had gotten used to it not long after I had first started here. The boys became the brothers that I had always wanted. I turned my attention back to my computer. It was quiet for a little bit before Jordy cleared his throat. “Yes?” I asked not taking my eyes off of the computer. “Well uh there’s this party tonight at G’s house and we wanted to know if you’d like to come.” I smiled. “Who is we exactly?” I asked, even though I knew his answer would be Geno, Sidney, himself, Nealer and a few of the others. “Really Keeley? I’m sure you already know.” I laughed. “Alright boys, get out of the hallway and come in here.” I watched as they filed into the small office. “How you always know?” Geno asked. “I’m just that good. Alright. So what time is this party that you’re having Mr. Malkin?” I asked facing the boys for the first time since they arrived. “You come at 7.” He said in his broken English, his Russian accent coming through. “G, I get off at five. That only leaves me a few hours to get home, get ready and then drive to your house. I doubt that will work.” They seemed to think about something for a moment before James spoke up. “I have an idea!” He basically yelled. “That’s scary.” I mumbled with a small laugh. “I can come pick you up.” He said, the guys seemed to agree. “No!” I practically yelled. The boys giving me an odd look. “I’ll just meet you guys at Geno’s. Now I have work to do and you all need showers. Get out of my office!” I laughed and watched them leave.
***James’ point of view***
“Did you guys find that as odd as I did?” I asked the boys. We were the only ones left in the locker room. They all nodded in agreement.
“Has anyone actually been to her place?” Sidney asked taking a seat at his stall.
“I haven’t.” I spoke. Jordan, Sidney and Geno all agreed.
“Maybe she doesn’t want anyone to know where she lives?” I questioned. “We can ask her about that later. We need to get stuff for this party!” I yelled! “Geno, you’ve booze right?” I asked. He probably only has vodka. Damn Russian.
“I have best! Vodka for all!” He yelled with a smile.
“Alright. I’ll pick up some beer, Jack and a few other things.” Jordy spoke up.
“I think everything is covered.” I spoke. “I’ll see you guys later tonight.” I said walking out the door.
***Keeley’s point of view***
I brought my attention back to the computer screen in front of me. I had a lot of paper work to finish but I had absolutely no motivation and I had no focus. Great. Thank you boys. I checked the clock, two more hours and then I’m out of here.
Thankfully the two hours passed by quickly. I managed to get most of it done, what wasn’t finished I could just do on Saturday night after the game. Now it’s time to head home and get ready for this party. What am I supposed to wear to this thing anyways? I groaned and sent a quick text to Geno.
“What kind of party is this? Formal? Informal?” I sent it and threw my phone into my bag and started my drive back to my place.
“Justin, I’m home!” I yelled walking into the living room where I found my boyfriend of a few months sitting on the couch drinking what appeared to be his fifth beer. “What took you so long? I want my dinner!” He growled at me.
“I’m two minutes later than I usually am. Chill out.” I instantly regretted my choice of words. Justin flew off the couch and before I could do anything he had me pinned up against the wall, his hand pressed firmly against my throat.
“Don’t speak to me like that.” He brought his hand up, slapping me. “Now get your fine ass in there and make my dinner.” He shoved me to the floor and kicked my abdomen. I scurried off the floor and into the kitchen to start his dinner. Hopefully he would be passed out cold after he finished the pack of beer that he brought and I wouldn’t have to worry about telling him where I was going.
“Is my dinner ready yet?” He yelled from the couch. I rolled my eyes and yelled my response.
“Can I get you anything else?” I asked setting the plate of food in front of him, along with his napkin, silverware and another beer.He didn’t reply so I left the room to get ready to head to Geno’s. I finally checked my phone and Geno had replied.
“Jeans and nice shirt work.” I sighed and pulled out a pair of my jeans along with my black long sleeve V-neck. I got a quick shower then started on my hair and makeup. I’d have to wear more than normal to cover up the bruise that would be on my cheek before the night was over. I sighed and quickly blow dried and straightened my hair. Then I started on my makeup. When I went back into the living room I found Justin passed out on the couch just as I had predicted. I sighed and grabbed my coat, phone, bag and keys before exiting the apartment.
