Being back in Pittsburgh felt pretty great. Geno insisted that I moved out of Sid’s house and into his. I wasn’t so sure about that, so I often stayed the night at Sid’s. Geno and I decided to keep the pregnancy a secret until my first trimester was over. There was less risk of losing the baby. In fact, we were going to tell his parents about my pregnancy over Skype here in a few hours. I was extremely nervous, Geno kept insisting that I didn’t need to be. There was some truth to that statement. His family loved me, they often spoke about their son and I getting married and having children. I guess they were spot on with their prediction, well we just mixed it up a little bit. I had already started to prepare the guest room for the arrival of mama Malkin. I knew her so well that once she heard the news she’d be on the first plane here to Pittsburgh.
“Ready to tell parents?” Geno asked kissing my cheek. I nodded, and he sat down on the couch next to me. His parents’ happy faces soon showed up on the computer screen. I gave a small smile and wave.
“Mama, Papa, we have something to tell you.” I felt my heart rate speed up as Geno spoke. I quickly grabbed ahold of his hand, suddenly feeling nauseous. I wasn’t sure if it was the baby or my nerves.
“Keeley are you feeling alright? You look a little green and you look small. Have you been eating enough? Geno! Have you been keeping an eye on her?” Natalia asks, giving her son a serious look. I know we have to tell her now other wise I will chicken out. I squeeze Geno’s hand once again.
“Mama, Papa, Keel’s is pregnant. You’re going to be grandparents!” I heard both of them gasp, it was quiet for a few moments. I started to worry. Were they unhappy?
“Oh my! I’m going to be a babushka! Did you hear that Vladmir? Our little boy is going to be a father! I’m taking the next flight out of here to come and take care of you.” Natalia rambled on excitedly.
“I already knew you would be. I have your room prepared, let me know what time you’ll arrive and I will be there to pick you up.” I said with a smile. At least a few of my worries had been lifted off of my shoulders. We said our goodbyes to his parents before we relaxed back on the couch. I leaned into Geno and he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me closer into his side. It was quiet for a few minutes.
“Should we tell your fans?” I asked playing with the button on his shirt. He didn’t speak instead he just played with my hair.
“We take cute picture and put on Instagram. We send to team first.” He finally said. I agreed.
“We have to send it to my Chicago boys as well. Then once they all know we can reveal it to the fans. Are you sure you’re okay with this? I can take care of the baby by myself. If you don’t want to be here for it I understand.” I say not making eye contact with him.
Geno moved me so that I was on his lap facing him. “Keeley, I want this baby. It my baby too. I love you and I love him.” I couldn’t help but smile.
“Maybe it’s a girl.” I laughed as G shook his head.
“No. It boy. He play hockey like his papa.” He said puffing his chest out proudly. I couldn’t wait to watch Geno teach his child how to skate or how to play hockey. I had no doubt that if it was a boy he would be playing hockey.
“There’s only one problem with that, G. Who’s he going to play for? Russia or the US?” I asked with a smile.
“Russia best.” G said proudly. “After hockey done, we move to Russia.” I nodded telling him I was okay with it. I wanted my child to grow up around a real family. Since the only family I had was the boys in Chicago and the boys here, along with Geno’s family.


“Geno! Is Sid here yet?” I whined.
“No, he be here soon. You have to wait.” He smiled kissing the top of my head.
We were taking the reveal photo today and we were going to have Sid take it. He would also be finding out about the pregnancy.

“Keels! I missed you! The house is too quiet without you around. You look beautiful by the way.” Sidney smiled kissing my cheek. I thanked him and gave him a quick hug.
“G and I have a favor to ask of you.” I smiled batting my eye lashes at him. He rolled his eyes, “Of course you do.” I handed him my phone, the camera on the screen. Geno came into the room holding two small onesies, one looked just like the jersey Geno wore during the Olympics and the other looked like one the US wore. He handed me the US one and we each held it up, each of us pointing to the onesie we were holding and smiling at the camera. I could see the confusion written all over Sid’s face, but he took the photos anyways. He handed me the phone and I took a seat on the couch.
“So, uh. Is there anything you want to tell me?” He asked looking at me then back to Geno. I nodded at Geno who picked up a box wrapped up with a bow and handed it to Sid.In the box was a baby sized Crosby jersey and a picture of my sonogram that said “Hi Uncle Sid! I can’t wait to meet you!” He looked at me then back down at the picture and to me again.
“I’m going to be an uncle?” He asked in disbelief. I nodded my head wiping away a few tears. “I’m so happy for you.” Sidney said hugging me tightly. I smacked his shoulder, “Put me down. I can’t breathe.” I laughed as he gently set me down, making sure I wasn’t injured.
I showed the boys the photo before I sent it off to both teams.

“Ok, put on Instagram now.” Geno said folding the onesies.

I posted the photo and my phone started blowing up with comments. I somehow was able to see Kaner post a comment saying “The US of course, he’s going to be as good as uncle Patty!
