'Kieran's POV'

As November went on I spent more time with the Stars team, making friends with some of the other players and a few of their girlfriends even welcomed me into their little "club". Becoming friends with the team made it easier for me to be around Jamie, we were friends now the awkwardness was gone for the most part and we could now talk freely. One Monday night I found myself tagging along with Tyler to Jamie's place to watch the Monday Night Football game. Everything was going smoothly as I laid on the carpeted floor in front of the TV reading my book minding my own business until Tyler and Jamie started talking about the Dallas Charity Gala. I tried to tune most of the conversation out until I heard Tyler tell Jamie that he couldn't go alone.

"Dude you're the captain, and the only player that has to go you can't go alone." Tyler told him. I could hear Jamie groan, "I am not taking some random girl to a charity event dude, besides it's too late to find someone, it's next week." Uh oh, I thought this isn't going to end well, and then there it was. "Hey Kier," Tyler yelled from the couches behind me, I pretended to not have heard what they were talking about, "What?" I asked in an annoyed tone, pulling myself up off the floor and sitting Indian style facing the boys.

"Will you go to the charity gala with Jamie?" I closed the book in my lap and took a deep breath, and looked over at Jamie who was clearly embarrassed that Tyler had asked for him. "You don't -" I cut him off, "Sure, why not. As long as I get to wear a pretty dress." Jamie smiled and Tyler laughed, "Wow, look at you being a girl for once." I got off the floor and flipped Tyler the bird as I walked into the kitchen.

Pulling myself onto the counter I took a sip of the blue Gatorade that I had gotten out of Jamie's fridge, I was scrolling through Twitter when I heard footsteps stop in front of me. I looked up and met Jamie's dark eyes, "Hey," I said locking my phone and setting it down next to me. "Hey," he returned slowly, "you really don’t have to go with me Kier, I'll be fine." I shrugged my shoulders, "I'll only go if you want me to Jame, it could be fun." He smiled down at me, "Alright then, you're going with me. It's next Friday.." I bit down on my bottom lip as I slid down off of the counter leaving little space between Jamie's body and mine, looking into his eyes I spoke softly, "It's a date.." Walking back into the living room leaving Jamie alone in the kitchen, his head probably spinning just as fast as mine. Was this really a date? Shit, I thought did I want it to be a date? Jamie Benn was tearing through the walls I had built like a wrecking ball, and to be honest I kind of liked it.

Taking a half-day at work I had plenty of time to get ready for the event. I wasn't nervous until I realized how much attention Jamie was going to have on him as the Captain of the team, and therefore eyes would be on me as well. God I hoped this went well, I did not want this to make the relationship I had been building with Jamie go backwards. The event started at 7 and Jamie was picking me up at 6:30, so around 4 I got started on the process of making myself look presentable.

I showered and shaved my legs very carefully, as the dress I was wearing had a slit up the side. Letting my hair dry into its natural wave to add texture to the bun I was going to attempt to create on top of my head. I dressed in a black floor length gown with a high neck and cutouts at the waist with a slit up the side, I paired the dress with black open toed heels, black and gold dangly earrings, as well as gold and black bangle bracelets. I dubbed myself "as good as it's going to get" and waited for Jamie to pick me up.

'Jamie's POV'

I am freaking out. Was this a date or was she joking? She was probably joking, right? Oh god, I have never been this freaked out over a girl before. Walking towards Kieran's door I thought about barging into Tyler's for a last minute pep talk but I decided he would just laugh in my face for being nervous over Kieran. Standing in front of her door I took one last deep breath before knocking on the wooden door, preparing myself to see Kieran's gorgeous face all dolled up for a night with me.

When she opened the door she was smiling, "Hey," she said with that southern Irish accent that drove me wild, "let me grab my clutch and I'll be ready to go!" I followed her into the apartment, watching her walk as the long black dress hugged her body and the slit on the side showed her mile long legs. Looking away I swallowed hard, she was so damn beautiful. As she glided back towards me I noticed she was exactly my height, and I wanted nothing more than to crash my lips into hers and not leave the apartment, I however did not think that would go over well with Kieran.

Stopping in front of me she surveyed my outfit, nothing special just a normal black tie suit, "I'd tell you that you clean up well J, but I see you like this like twice a week." I smiled at the girl in front of me, "Thanks?" I questioned, she let out a small giggle, "You look gorgeous Kier, and thanks for not being taller than me." A blush crept across her pale skin, "Thank you, and you're welcome I know you hockey boys are sensitive." she spoke giving my chest a small shove. Focusing on anything but looking at Kieran tonight was going to be a real struggle.

'Kieran's POV'

The event was held in a hotel ballroom downtown, a "red carpet" was setup as soon as you walked in the door. We hadn't even been inside for 5 seconds when a man approached Jamie and I immediately stiffened. This was going to be a long night. The man gave Jamie a card with our table number on it and moved onto another couple. Jamie must have noticed my uneasiness as he put a hand on my back and whispered softly so only I could hear him, "relax K, you look beautiful." I looked up into his eyes the light making them look caramel colored and immediately felt better, "They're all going to think we're together, I never thought of that being a problem for you." He shrugged, "It's not, we're friends right?" I nodded, "I'm allowed to bring friends to events." This man was too perfect, he was melting me into a puddle and didn’t even know it.

Walking the "red carpet" our pictures were taken time and time again, Lord knows we were bound to be in some Dallas newspaper or magazine. Each photo Jamie's arm was slinked lightly around my waist, and my hand rested on his chest, explaining that we weren't "a couple" was going to be difficult. Seeing that we both looked abnormally good for the evening we took a few pictures and posted them on our Twitter and Instagram accounts, my social media is private so I wasn't scared of the mob of angry Jamie Benn lovers. But as soon as it was posted, even with the clear caption of "Dallas Charity Gala with the best friend I've ever lucked into @IrishKierBomb" Jamie's phone blew up, some comments were nice others were down right mean. We were both used to it, after all I had gotten worse things for hanging out with Tyler.

The night went on, and I had made it through countless introductions of people I would probably never see again. Policemen, councilmembers, even the Mayor of Dallas, everyone wanted to talk to the captain and his "friend". Even if it was the truth not many people bought that Jamie and I were just friends. Every time I was asked what I did for a career, to which I responded "I'm a veterinary medicine resident" the person we were talking to would tell Jamie not to let me go, or that I was a keeper. Little did they know Jamie didn’t even have me. We sat through speech after speech and Jamie was just as bored as I was. I caught him looking at me a few times and he had even put his arm around the back of my chair but none of that bothered me anymore, Jamie was still in the dark to it but I was falling for him.

Finally getting back to my apartment Jamie walked me to my door, if this had been a "real" date it would have been the picture perfect moment. I had his suit jacket draped over my shoulders as we stopped in front of my door, I slid the jacket off my shoulders and unlocked the door. Looking back into Jamie's eyes I spoke, "I had fun tonight Jame, thanks for getting my mind off of studying." He smiled, and he pulled me in for a hug that I never wanted to be let go from. He spoke softly, the words muffling in my hair, "Anytime Kier, goodnight." We pulled away and I placed a kiss on his cheek, "Night J, see you at the game tomorrow." He smiled and took his jacket from me, waving as he walked away. And it was in that moment that I knew that the walls were all gone, and my heart was open.
