• “Mom” Jordie yelled “We’re home”

“Kitchen” A sweet voice yelled. We all made our way to the kitchen, Jamie fished for my hand interlocking our fingers tightly together. Looking up at him I mouthed “I love you” before he kissed my temple.

“Hey mom” Jamie smiled as he hugged his mom from behind “I want you to formally introduce you to Katie, my girlfriend”

“Nice to meet you Mrs.Benn” I shyly spoke "Jamie always talks so highly of you"

“Hello dear. Its such a pleasure to meet you and please call me Alice. Mrs.Benn is my mother in law” She smiled going into a hug with me “Jamie talks about you so much. A majority of our phone calls he is just talking about how gorgeous you”

I could feel my cheeks getting red. “Oh he does?” I laughed “Why thank you babe” I laughed striking a sarcastic pose towards Jamie

“Hey for the record” Jamie blushed grabbing a beer from the fridge and tossing it to Jordie “I talk about other things besides your good looks, for starters I talk about how funny you are”

“Mhm sure Jam” Jordie chirped “Is Dad in the man cave?”

“Is your father every anywhere else?” Alice announced “Leave us girls to talk before dinner”

“Alright” Jamie kissed my forehead as he hugged me quickly grabbing my butt “Scream if my mother tries to kill you”

Jamie went into the fridge grabbing another beer before him and Jordie headed downstairs leaving their mom and I alone together as christmas carols played in the background. As i looked around the kitchen that connected to the dining room, I noticed the yellow walls were covered with all memorabilia things of Jordie and Jamie from Jamies gold medal from WJC to Jordies jerseys framed up all around the room, I felt proud.

“So Katie where do you go to school?” Alice asked as she set the plates around the table

“Here let me help” I announced grabbing wine glasses and placing them on the table “I go to University of San Antonio, last year there”

“Whats your major?” She questioned

“Oh yes, my major is Journalism” I smiled proudly “I would really enjoy going into fashion journalism”

“I can see why” She acknowledged “You look absolutely stunning in this outfit of yours”

“Thank you ma’m” I softly spoke “You look stunning too”

“Oh dear, I just threw this on” She laughed "Are you from from Dallas?"

"Yes m'am, originally from New York, Long Island however. But I lived in Brampton since i was 5" I went on

"Ah so are you secretly a rangers or islanders fan" She laughed

"Secretly a rangers fan, my father and I went to so my rangers game when we live there" I forcefully smiled

"I would love to meet your father one day,Well its dinner time, i’ll go grab the boys” She ran off

I stood there in utter shock, wishing that my boyfriend and his family could meet my parents and that we could celebrate Christmas back in Dallas with my family. One of these days when someone mentions my parents I won't flinch and I won't feel as if my heart is escaping my chest



JAMIE POV

Dinner was going well. My mother made brown sugar ham with mashed potatoes and asparagus, Katie seemed to relax as time went on coming out of her shell. “Ma, this is delicious” I chewed

“Close your mouth Jamie” Dad announced “Are you prepared for the Olympics Jordie?”

“Yes. Jamie and I stay late at the arena and either have a skate workout or we go to the gym” Jordie went on “Don’t worry pops. Im ready and for fucks sake so is Jamie trust me”
Throwing a green bean at Jordie “Hey no cussing at the dinner table young man” Mom yelled

“So katie will you be attending the Olympic games?”

“Yes sir” Katie swallowed “The second semester I will be taking online classes. That way I am able to go and I will be able to graduate ahead of my class”

“Oh wow, you’ve really thought this out” Dad replied “And what do your parents say about this”

Jordie and I heads shot up from our mashed potatoes. My eyes quickly turned for Katies seeing the shocked face she had on, her mouth hung open slightly, trying to process the right wording before speaking.

“My parents passed away when I seventeen” She sighed “The Seguin family took me in after that, i’ve been living with them since. I grew up with Megan and Tyler, they’ve been family friends. Thats how I met your son, through Tyler; and Jamie has helped me open up about my family situation after having a seizure. Your son is a wonderful man, he is charming, funny, caring and he is himself which helps me be myself. He was a blessing in disguise and I am in love with my blessing.”

I looked over at my mom and i could see the tears slowly falling, reaching for Katie's hand i felt the tears fall down my scruff. “I love you to the moon and back” I cried wiping the tears from my face

“I love you too” Katie kissed my cheek “Im really sorry for making you all cry”

“Oh sweetie” My dad smiled “Don’t apologize, please don’t”

After we all collected ourselves and cleaned the table, we all gathered in the living room to give out presents. My mom and Dad gave Katie the scented Yankee candles, pink sand and clean cotton with a gift card to Bloomingdales in return Katie knitted my parents a blanket with the color scheme of green and white for the Dallas Stars color. May i just say I was completely unaware of the fact my girlfriend knitted. Now it was my time to give Katie her gift, “Here is yours” I smiled as she opened it revealing Scrabble she let out a laugh “Since we have travel scrabble I only thought it was appropriate to get one for home for us but you have one more gift” I cheered. “Thank you baby and what?” She smiled as I handed her a large box, after tossing the wrapping paper into the fire she opened the box to find two skates. “I thought if you date a guy who makes a living on the ice you should skate too” I kissed her. “Thank you, and here is yours” she handed me a small kohls box when opening it I couldn’t stop laughing at a mens size watermelon sweatshirt “Now we can match” She hysterically laughed. “I love it thank you baby” I laughed.

“I really love your parents babe’’ Katie smiled resting her head on my shoulder as we sat outside on the front steps “They’re amazing people”

“They are practically in love with you” I laughed “See you had nothing to worry about. And you are my blessing too baby”
