Love that We Deserve
I- Almost is Never Enough
~ One of the most painful goodbyes is when you know that the next time you meet, the hello won't be the same ~
The Dallas Stars would be playing in Boston against the Boston Bruins tomorrow night. Tyler Seguin, number 91 and the Stars’ newest addition to the team’s head spun in circles and his stomach was in knots due to the anticipation of playing against his former team for the first time this season. It had only been four months since the trade and although it was made so that there were no ‘hard feelings’, there definitely were some ‘feelings’ about how the trade went down. Tyler knew that the trade was because of the salary cap and actual business issues, but the Bruins management publicly humiliated him, they made it seem like Tyler was an immature, party going, douchebag that did not live up to their expectations. They made him look irresponsible. The trade was originally not personal, but then they had to go out and add fire to the flame to make for a good story and make Tyler look bad. Tyler didn't hate the actual Bruins team, they were like his family, Peter Chiarelli was the one that Tyler felt any sort of hate towards. Tyler never really got nervous, but he had been looking forward to this game since the team had received the schedule for the season. The dates for the first game against the Bruins was circled on his calendar and he had set a reminder on his phone. You could say Tyler was a little obsessed with making sure that Chiarelli would regret trading him to the Bruins, let alone releasing the ‘Behind the B’ footage of him talking shit about Tyler.
-Hey man can’t wait to see u! teams not the same without u bro, we miss u! kisses xoxo
A snapchat from Brad Marchand along with Patrice Bergeron and Milan Lucic read. A smile grew on Tyler’s face; since the trade, contact with his former teammates was extremely awkward and tense, and Brad informing him that the team wasn’t the same made Tyler feel a little better. Tyler wasn’t the only one from the Bruins team that got traded, Rich Peverley, one of the most versatile players Tyler had ever come across, had been traded along with him. But Peverley’s trade wasn’t made into a huge deal and it didn’t hurt his reputation, why? Because it wasn’t personal.
Tyler snapped a picture back with a pouty face.
-agreeed, miss u guys too <3 dont forget about dindin tonight bb
Tyler set his phone down on his lap and rested his head on Jamie Benn, his linesman’s shoulder.
“Think the game is going to be awkward?” Benn laughed. Tyler shook his head no and then stopped and slightly nodded.
“Can’t even lie about it, it’s going to be so awkward, I’m fucked if we beat them, and I’m fucked if we don’t” Tyler sighed taking his head off of Jamie’s shoulder.
“Think you’re going to get boo’d or anything?”
Tyler stopped to think about the question and shrugged.
“I dunno, it would be kind of cool if I did, but I don’t want this game to be about me,” Tyler looked over at Jamie who was now walking over to the baggage carousel and began to grab his things. It wasn’t long until Tyler’s own bag would appear. The team headed out to the bus, in which dropped them off at the Battery Wharf Hotel. Once they had arrived, a sigh had escaped Tylers lips, it all felt so odd, less than a year ago he would have been playing a home game which was always fun, but tomorrow night Tyler would, for the first time be playing an away game at the TD Garden, nothing but mixed emotions were in Tylers thoughts.
“Hahhahahahaa stop it!” Magdalena giggled as Dougie tickled her stomach and sucked on her neck. Her stomach and cheeks began to hurt as she laughed harder and her face grew a bright pinkish-red. Her toes curled as she continued to get tortured by her boyfriend, Dougie Hamilton.
“Dougie I’m going to pee my pants!” she exclaimed, and yet that didn't seem to stop him from tickling her.
“Get a roooom,” Marchand whined as he opened a beer. Dougie stopped and gazed at his beautiful girlfriend as she sat up and adjusted her shirt, she noticed almost instantly and began to gaze at him as well, and at this point their noses were touching. Dougie’s hand began to move up and down Magdalena’s thigh until she placed her hand on top of him, stopping him.
“Seriously?” Reilly Smith, one of the guys that Tyler was traded for, entered the room and rolled his eyes at the two young lovebirds. Reilly plopped down in between the two, breaking them apart and began to flip through the channels. Patrice Bergeron was having the team over along with their wives and girlfriends, just for a team lunch after their morning skate. Magdalena kicked Reilly and struggled to escape from the awkward position that she was in.
Reilly continued to flip through the channels until the NHL network came up. Tyler Seguins face was the only thing on the screen at the moment and that seemed to catch the majority of everyone's attention.
"Everyone get inside! Seggys on tv!" Brad called out and it didn't take long for the rest of the team to be in the living room and all their attention on the television with their former teammate. Reilly set the remote down and slumped down on the couch; Tyler Seguin, the man who was pretty much stealing his life over in Dallas. Tyler was a) on the Dallas Stars Team and b) Tyler and his ex, Ali, were getting really close. Reilly wasn't sure if he was totally happy to be on the Bruins Team or if he got the better end of the deal, seeing how well Tyler was doing in Dallas with the Stars.
"The Dallas Stars will be playing the Boston Bruins tomorrow night at the TD Garden in Boston, this marks the first game that the young, 21 year old center, Tyler Seguin will be palying against his former team, the Boston Bruins. Tyler had been traded to the Stars in July of this year, so just a few months ago, due to his off ice behaviour which apparently had affected his play during the playoffs to which the Boston Bruins lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in the final game of the season."
"Now now, I don't actually believe that it was because of his off ice business, Tyler Seguin is a beyond exceptional player, there is definitely more to that Trade-"
"He threw a party the day he got traded I mean come on! It [the trade] just had to be because of his behaviour, he is a frat boy playing with a bunch of adult, he needed to mature quickly and he couldn't live up to that one expectation!"
The sports reporters were sitting at a long counterlike table and they all sat on one side of the table in suits, they began to have a discussion on Tyler Seguin and the men of the Bruins team payed careful attention to everything that was being said, and some laughs and scoffs were thrown out there while the discussion progressed on.
Magdelena returned from the pool wrapped in a towel and noticed all the guys' eyes were glued on the television. She looked over at the other wives and girlfriends of the players hoping that they would know what was going on.
"Tyler's on TV" Patrice's wife called out from the kitchen, still cooking away. Magdalena's heart dropped and a warm feeling erupted from the pit of her stomach. Tyler was coming back to Boston. Tyler and her had shared an intimate relationship, although they had never gotten to call eachother 'boyfriend' and 'girlfriend', whatever it is that Tyler and herself had, it was one of the most intense relationships that Magdalena had ever been in. Unfortunately for them, they ended it all only days before his trade. Magdalena had hopes that they would make amends after their fight, but the trade made it harder for herself and Tyler to speak to eachother and make up.
"Oh," Magdelena said softly, her throat was dry at the thought that someone who she cared so deeply for and had in-explainable feelings for was going to be back, it made her heart ache.
"Maggie come here babe!" Dougie called out from the couch. Magdalena blinked slowly and walked over to the living room where Dougie pulled her onto his lap and give her a kiss on the cheek. Magdelena looked down ashamed, knowing that as soon as Tyler saw her with Dougie it would tear him to pieces.
"Man I don't really know how I feel about this game against Segs tomorrow night, hope coach doesn't make me body Tyler or anything like that, I just hope it's a clean game for Tyler's sake," Milan Lucic said when the commercials came on.
"You heard what he said at practice, whatever it takes, Segs or no Segs we are playing our game the way we play it." Bergeron reminded Milan, but it was almost as if he was reminding the entire team. Despite what Marchand had assured Tyler, he [Tyler] was almost obslete to Coach Julien along with the team, truth of the matter was: The team was no different with or without Tyler. Chiarelli knew that Tyler being in Dallas would cause better opportunities for Tyler to grow as a player and a chance for Tyler to play his natural position as a center and play in the first line instead of the fourth or the third. Heck! Tyler could have even gotten captain after his first year with the Stars, he had a lot of potential and could definitely lead this young team.
Dougies fingers began to rub on Magdalena's exposed leg, and she brushed his hand off. Magdalena had only been dating Dougie for a month, and to be completely honest it was because she needed to fill whatever hole Tyler left inside of her, and Dougie just wasn't doing it for her. Although Dougie and herself were the same age, she felt that Dougie was childish and naive. There were days where she would wonder why she was even dating him, but she stuck with him regardless in hopes that some kind of spark would fire between them, but she knew in the back of her mind that it really wouldn't. She wanted Tyler, no-she needed Tyler.
Tyler struggled tying his tie and he ended up just tossing it on the bed and going with a no tie look. Tyler was back in Boston, it felt like a homecoming for him. Am I even welcome here? Tyler thought to himself. It was already quarter to eight and everyone needed to be at the dinner by eight thirty. He went over to the hotel bathroom and ran some light gel through his hair. He sprayed some cologne on his wrists and ran his wrists along his neck. Tyler's phone buzzed, it was his Uber.
"Alright" Tyler said aloud as he made his final adjustments to his suit and put on a coat. He grabbed his cell phone and room key. Tyler shut the lights of his hotel room off and headed out to the Uber. As soon as Tyler stepped out of the hotel the lights of Boston were lit like a Christmas tree. There were cars racing past him on almost every street, something that did not always happen in Dallas, where the cars were usually cruising by. Boston was an edgy, busy city whereas Dallas was calm and cool (contradictory to the weather that was warm down there). Tyler exhaled and the cold Boston air created a cloud from his breath. He walked over to the black Rolls Royce vehicle that was parked, hoping that this was his Uber, it was always awkward stepping into the a vehicle and it wasn't the Uber.
"Mr. Seguin," The driver nodded.
"Hey," Tyler said as he sat down. Tyler gave the driver the name of the restaurant. As Tyler approached the restaurant, he couldn't help but look around at the city he used to call 'home'. So many memories flashed in his mind as they drove through the city, all the feelings and emitions were palpable at this moment and Tyler just wanted to wake up from whatever kind of nightmare he was going through and just be back on the Bruins. Tyler stepped out of the car once they had arrived, he gave his thanks to the driver and walked into the restaurant that smelled of garlic bread and pesto sauce.
"Reservation for Bergeron," Tyler said, to which the hostess looked down at the counter and then back up at him. She had light brown eyes which were coated with eyeliner and her eyelashes were covered in mascara almost to the point where they would look like spider legs, which creeped Tyler out a bit. Other than that she was pretty.
"Name?" She said, Tyler could tell she was nervous, she must have known that the Bergeron reservation was an important one.
"Seguin, Tyler" Tyler said as he began to lightly tap his foot. The girl crossed something off nodded at Tyler and smiled at him.
"This way Mr. Seguin," She said calmly and politely. Tyler pursed his lips in a slight smile, as soon as they entered the dinning area of the restaurant the chatter of the room grew louder than it had been out in the front. Blues piano music was playing in the background at the restaurant which created a jazzy aroma. Tyler spotted Marchand instantly and smirked, but he continued following the hostess as if he had no idea where the seats were.
"Here you are Tyl-I mean Mr. Seguin" She stuttered, she clearly knew who Tyler was and was embarrassed at how she had blown the front she was trying to put on. Tyler appreciated that she was trying to give him some kind of respect, and laughed in his head.
"Thank you," Tyler smiled at her and sat down.
"Seggys here!!!" Brad patted Tyler's back and let out a chuckle. Everyone cheered and clapped as he arrived, catching the attention of everyones attention at the restaurant. Tyler smiled at everyone and said his hellos and hugged them all. As the conversation carried on Tyler scanned the large table that they were sitting at and heard a faint familiar laugh. He couldn't pin point the name of the person to which the laugh belonged to but he recognized it. A scent of glorious perfume crept up his nose and Tyler's eyes furrowed when he realized that the scent was his favourite and in his past, it was worn by a certain person to whom he had no connection with in the present what-so-ever. Tyler looked back to see who else would be wearing the same perfume. It was her. She looked the same, medium chocolate colored hair that was always in these perfect large waves, same large bright blue eyes and plump lips. Same smile, same everything, except her arm was hooked onto Dougie Hamiltons arm. Tyler blinked fast and was stunned, were his own eyes decieving him?
"Could I get you anything to drink?" Tyler was now looking at the crotch area of someone wearing a skirt. Tyler's eyes made their way up to an older woman, maybe 30 something, with dark black hair that was pinned back, fair skin and very red lips in which Tyler imagined her sucking him dry with.
"Uh just a water for now, thanks" Tyler said.
"A water!?" Brad exclaimed. "No! No! get my man here some scotch on the rocks!" Brad scratched Tylers order and created another for him [Tyler]. Tyler chuckled and agreed with Brad as soon as the smell of the sweet perfume was unavoidable and Tyler realized it was going to be a long night, he needed a drink or two. The waitress smiled and walked off.
"Hey man! long time no see!!" Dougie's voice chirped up and Tyler looked over at him and stood up to give him a handshake/hug, just like how guys do.
"How are you doing man!" Tyler said completely ignoring the fact that someone he shared deep moments and emotions with was standing right there.
"Great bro! Missed you out here!! You look a lil different though, grew out a dirty beard!" Dougie joked. Tyler rubbed his hand along his beard and smiled.
"Trying something new, ladies love it in Dallas" Tyler winked. Dougie progressed on to say his hi's, hey's and hellos to his teammates and their dates, and left Magdalena to face Tyler and vice versa.
"Hey," Tyler said.
"Hi." Magdalena said finally looking directly at him. Magdalena was just under a head shorter than Tyler so she had to look up to really see him.
"How have you been?" Tyler's voice grew nice and soft, something that he only did with Magdalena, which made her knees weak. Magdalena could feel the emotions begin to rush to her head and cause pressure, she could feel a tingling sensation in her face and she fought the tears and won when she smiled and responded:
"Great! How's Dallas treating you?" She replied attempting to sound as energetic as possible. Tyler had pretty much repressed all memories and emotions that had to do with Magdelena in hopes that he would never see her again. She made him feel odd, weak, horrible, and good all at the same time. She made his balls ache and there was nothing he could ever do about it. As soon as Tyler arrived in Dallas he made sure that not a single thought of Magdalena would pop into his mind, he knew the effect she had on him and he resented her for that. When it came to her, she was the puppeteer and he was the puppet; he was like putty in her hand, she could control him if she wanted to. Tyler didn't like it.
"Good. Still getting used to it, moved into a big house all alone," Tyler laughed nervously. He immediately regretted adding the alone part, it made him sound desperate.
"Oh I'm sure you won't be alone for long," She assured him. Magdalena knew Tyler's ways. It was hockey, partying, sex, and girls. In that exact order, hockey was always first and girls were always last, or at least she was in her case. Tyler on the other hand wanted to just scream that he loved her, he wanted to drop on his knees and beg her to let him back in but he couldn't now, she was with Dougie, she had clearly moved on, and fast. He had only been gone for a few months and she had already found someone new and better.
"Maggie! Over here!" Dougie called out from the other side of the table for Magdalena, and she turned and walked over towards him. Tyler wanted to keep his eyes still but he couldn't help but look over and watch her leave.
"Tyler, heard you've been playing great down there! They're even saying that Dallas got the better end of the deal" Milan stated but Milan knew that the Stars were just a young team that only had potential skill, the Bruins truly got the better end with the seven player trade, Smith, Eriksson, Fraser and Morrow were the four new additions to the Bruins team, they were all phenomenal players and were only going to make the Bruins stronger. Tyler smiled, he really didn't want to talk about the trade.
"Meh, I think both teams got a good and fair deal" Tyler said and the waitress finally arrived with his drink and he took a quick sip of it.
"Thank you," Tyler said, looking straight onto her eyes. She smiled and winked at him.
"So polite Tyler!" Brad's date nudged him. Who was she again?
"Tell us about Dallas?" Brittany, Milans wife chipped in.
"It's quiet, no one knows much about hockey down there so I can get away with a lot more than I could here" Tyler joked.
"Any girls?" Brad asked. Tyler's eyes looked at Magdalena hoping that she was looking back at him, but she wasn't. She was too busy eskimoing with Dougie. It pissed Tyler off, how could Dougie do that to him? How could she? Tyler didn't know who to blame for whatever he was feeling, he just wanted to point his finger at someone for causing this pain.
"Oh yeah tons! They're a lot better than the girls here" Tyler chuckled.
"You would know right Tyler!" Patrice called out, causing Tyler's cheeks to flush. Tyler wanted to mature and leave behind whatever lifestyle he had in Boston, but it seemed that everyone seemed to see him as a party-going ladies man or something like that. He really wanted to settle down, the big house he bought was supposed to be his way of indicating that, and yet everyone seemed to believe that the house was just for parties and girls. Tyler shrugged and gave the table a sheepish grin, which cause all the guys to laugh and cheer.
"Are any of you ladies and gentlemen ready to order any starters?" The waitress asked causing everyone to quickly grab their menus and make quick glances.
"Can we start off with the garlic bread, and the spinach dip" Brad ordered for the table. Rich Peverley then showed up at the table, to which grew quiet as everyone looked over at him. Peverley could only receive love, the team loved him and appreciated everything he had done with them the past couple years he had played with the Bruins which was a shorter time than that of Tylers.
"Hey boys" He said as he adjusted the cuff of his inside shirt. Milan stood up first and hugged Peverley and soon the rest of the guys did so as well. Just like the trade, there was a huge difference between how Rich Peverley was treated and how Tyler was treated. Tyler was always going to be remembered for how he had exited the Bruins team, whereas Peverley was going to be remembered for how he respected the game and played so well. It baffled Tyler at how Peverley was treated so well, Tyler wanted to be on the same level.
"Thanks for coming out Pevs! We really miss ya man" Brad said as he and Rich parted and Brad sat back down. The waitress still stood there in an awkward stance, waiting for the starter orders, which then consisted of the soup of the day (that was on the house) and a couple more garlic bread orders.
"Alright, is anyone ready to order the mains or do you guys need more time?" She asked. Everyone shook their head no and she smiled.
"Anyone need refills?" She looked around the table and grabbed the couple empty glasses, Tyler's included.
Magdalena and Dougie sat on the opposite end of the table from Tyler and seemed to have been enjoying each other's company. Magdalena did her very best to keep her eyes off of Tyler and to keep her thoughts of Tyler out of her mind. It had taken her a long time to get over him, she spent countless nights crying over him and wishing there could have been a way for her to get him back, she regretted the way they left things off. Dougie had been there for her when she was upset, he was initially in the friend-zone when they had first met and she was well aware of the crush he had on her. She didn't mean for him to get the wrong idea at first but she eventually caved in and let some of her walls down and grew a small liking for him. He was sweet and cared a lot for her, which she appreciated.
"What are you going to get babe?" Dougie asked looking at his girlfriend, nevermind 'looking' he was gazing at her beauty, she was a goddess to him and he was thankful that he coud call her his. He was surprised that the entire restaurant wasn't drowning in a pool of his own drool by now because thats how she made him feel.
"Probably just some pasta," Magdalena shrugged.
"I think I'll get a steak," Dougie responded, despite the fact that Magdalena didn't ask. Magdalena smiled at him and continued looking at the menu after looking through it a million times. She was only doing so to keep her eyes on something other than Tyler. She could hear Tylers voice on the other side of the table talking about some kind of experience in Dallas, something about horseback riding and a shooting range? The waitress came back after a while with everyones starters and everyone gave the waitress their main dish orders and she went off again. As everyone dug into the garlic bread and spinach dip Magdalena found herself sitting and just staring at the soup with no apetite. It was so upsetting. She looked up to find Dougie looking at her and he reached a hand and grabbed hers.
"Are you okay?" Dougie asked.
"Yeah I'm fine, I'm just going to go to the bathroom," Magdalena pushed her chair back and got up. She wanted to cry, she couldn't fight the Tyler thoughts anymore. It killed her that he could just sit there and act as if nothing ever happened. She made her way to the bathroom and burst into the tears that she had been holding back causing her head to pound with how much pain she had to hold in, she wiped the tears away and her eyes were now puffy and red from all the crying. She left the restroom and went back to the table.
"I'm not feeling so well, I'm just going to head home, alright?" She whispered to Dougie and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"Text me when you get home, feel better baby" Dougie said and gave her a peck on the lips.
Tyler noticed how quickly Magdalena had gotten up and could tell she was upset about something. He watched how she came back and whispered something in Dougies ear, grabbed her coat and left. What was wrong?
"One sec, excuse me guys" Tyler said as he got up and followed Magdalena footsteps outside. He desperately wanted to know what made her leave the table. Did Dougie do something wrong? Tyler spotted Magdalena standing outside on her phone clicking her heels against the cement sidewalk and was holding her coat in her hand.
"Meg!" Tyler called out. Magdalena turned towards him and looked at him and the tears began to stream down again. She said something on the phone and hung up. Tyler rushed over towards her. It was dark out and the only light was the post that was hovering over her, she hoped that it was just dark enough for Tyler not to notice her crying.
"You must be cold!" Tyler said as he grabbed her coat and slowly placed it over her shoulder. Magdalena let out a faint laugh at his gesture.
"Thanks Ty," Magdalena said as Tyler began to rub her shoulders in an attempt to warm her up. Tyler then stopped rubbing her shoulders, wrapped his arms around her chest and pulled her into a hug. He placed a kiss on her temple and rested his chin on her head.
"I've missed you.." He mumbled as his grip tightened. Magdalena said nothing as she reached up and unwrapped Tyler's arms. She didn't want to fall for him again, not like this. She was with Dougie, she couldn't do this to Dougie and she definitely didn't want to go through all of their bullshit again.
"Ty.." She turned to face him, only making a mistake when his lips crashed into her own catching her by surprise. She wanted to continue kissing him but she pushed him away.
"Meg.." Tyler exhaled out, desperation oozing out of his voice. "Please.." He begged as he reached for her waist but she only backed away. He could see the hurt in her eyes and it was eating at him that he couldn't stop the pain. Did he do this to her? Or was it Dougie?
"Tyler please don't do this" Magdalena said, her voice shaky. A cab pulled up and Magdalena got in before Tyler could say or do anything. As soon as the door shut Magdalena burst into tears and couldn't even get words that made sense out of her mouth.
"Drive, please just drive!" She cried out to the cab driver as she began to bawl her eyes out.
