June 2013 (One week before the Trade)

“Why would you do that!?” Tyler shouted after Magdalena swatted the keys away from his fingers.

“I don’t know..maybe because I care about you and I don’t want you to drive drunk!?” Magdalena responded looking down to figure out where the keys may have landed.

“Maybe you should care less” Tyler hissed. Magdalena stepped back in disgust.

“Tyler, you know better!”

Tyler and Magdalena stood in the middle of the driveway and the music from the house that was just a few feet away from them was thunderous. Tyler was frustrated, angry and drunk. Magdalena too, was frustrated and angry, but definitely not drunk.

“Let me have my fun Meg, it’s the fucking summer!” Tyler slurred. Magdalena squinted her eyes shot a glare at Tyler.

“Oh you really want to have ‘your fun’ right now Tyler? Right now while there’s rumours about you potentially getting kicked off of the Bruins because of ‘your fun’ “ Magdalena crossed her arms across her chest and raised an eyebrow. Tyler clenched his fist, his testosterone levels had risen due to how much liquor he had taken in that night and if Magdalena wasn’t a girl, he would have hit her then and there.

“I’m leaving the party aren’t I!?” Tyler threw his arms up irritated at the fact that his keys could be anywhere. Tyler glanced around the driveway, where there were cars parked and people standing everywhere.

“Yeah but driving drunk Tyler? You can barely stand up, call a cab”

“Fuck what you say I’m not calling a cab, I’m Tyler Seguin,”

“Yeah you are; ‘Tyler Seguin one trick pony, the party animal’” Magdalena mocked. “Oh wait you do realize that this was your worst season right? You only scored..what..like 15 goals, played like shit during the playoffs, AND you guys lost” Magdalena spat at Tyler. She was sick of it all, the past three years with him had their up’s and downs and Magdalena was always the one who was there for Tyler, but he never listened to her and was never there for her when she needed him the most. The 2012-2013 season for Tyler was his worst and he didn’t seem to be taking it too seriously. It was more like the ‘2013 Season’ seeing that there was a lockout and only 42 games were played in the regular season. So far, this past summer Tyler had been going out to parties and drinking 24/7. Just last week he burst into her home and had a nervous breakdown because he had mixed drugs with alcohol; he was starting to lose control and Magdalena couldn’t take it anymore. She was worried for him and everytime she tried to help he pushed her away. She’d spend countless nights with no sleep due to her staying up waiting for him to call her to let her know he was okay. But lately he hadn’t been calling or texting her.

“Excuse me?” Tyler said as he stepped closer to Magdalena, and was now hovering over her, his broad shoulders and tall frame became very apparent. Magdalena looked up at Tyler angrily as he towered over her.

“Did I stutter?”

“You know if you’re so sick of me then why don’t you just leave me alone, no one’s asking you to be around me,”

“Tyler, just a little reminder: YOU WERE GOING TO DRIVE HOME DRUNK!? Hasn’t what happened with Derrek taught you anything?”

“DON’T FUCKING GO THERE” Tyler’s voiced boomed and caused everyone attention outside to be on the two of them. He startled Magdalena and she knew she was pushing his buttons at this point. Tyler’s nose flared and his eyes glared down at her. She had crossed the line and brought up a sensitive topic for Tyler. During December of 2012 while Tyler was in Switzerland his four friends back in his hometown [Toronto] had gotten into a car accident and caused one of them [Derrek] to become paralyzed from the waist down. It was a traumatizing event for Tyler that had changed his whole perspective. Magdalena was there for Tyler to help him vent, even though there was a five hour time difference between Boston and Switzerland, she put almost all of her time in Tyler.

“I just did.” Magdalena courageously responded. Tyler’s chest was rising up and down rapidly at how angry he was. He wanted to hurt her, bad. Tyler’s body language shifted and a smirk grew on his face.

“You want to know something Magdalena? I know exactly how you feel about me, and let me assure you, it’s never going to happen. You’re too frigid and boring. But I have to admit, it was fun leading you on, watching you fall so hopelessly in love with me,” A smug smirk was now on Tyler’s face, but on the inside he was beating himself up for what he had just said. He regretted what he said immediately, but he had no filter and she provoked him.

Magdalena’s shoulders dropped and she silently let out a breath.

How could he?

She was humiliated, everyone outside had heard what he said and they were paying extra close attention, anticipating what was going to happen next. Magdalena couldn’t even look Tyler in the eyes anymore and she looked over to her left where there was grass and noticed something shining, his keys. She didn’t even fight the tears that were streaming down her face, she walked over to the keys picked them up and shoved them into Tyler’s hands.

I hate you.” Magdalena choked as she looked into Tyler’s eyes one last time. As much as she hated herself for thinking it; she had hoped that something terrible would happen to Tyler, just so he’d know that he should have listened to her.

*******************************

Magdalena sat in the living room alone. All of her roommates were sound asleep and the tv was on mute while reruns of Saved by the Bell played. It was two in the morning and she couldn’t sleep. She turned her phone on and looked at her lock screen. A photo of Dougie and herself was her background, and she began to question everything she had felt for Dougie. She bit her lip as she began to get deeper in her thoughts. How did she really feel about him? Did she really picture her first time with Dougie? What about a family? Magdalena Hamilton? She progressively went from thinking about her relationship with Dougie, to how she felt about Tyler. Magdalena reminisced about all the moments she had shared with Tyler, the good parts and the ugly parts and it felt like her whole life had flashed before her eyes, because well, Tyler was her whole life. Magdalena let out a slight gasp when it really hit her that Tyler Seguin was pretty much her everything. She cupped her mouth and shut her eyes as tears began to go down her cheeks. She had been in so much pain the past couple months and her relationship with Dougie had been a way for her to cope with Tyler leaving. As much as she tried to move on and get rid of Tyler, she couldn’t. Soft footsteps began to approach the living room which got Magdalena out of her trance.

“Can’t sleep either huh?” Caro, one of her roommates came over with a tub of half-baked icecream. Magdalena shook her head no.

“Kind of missing someone” Magdalena spoke.

“Yeah I feel ya! Thank God we get to go home for Thanksgiving! Only two more days” Caro shrieked as she dipped her spoon into the icecream tub and tossed a spoon over to Magdalena.

“Mhm” Magdalena muttered as she wiped the tears off of her face.

‘Awe hun you must really miss whoever this is?” Caro asked and Magdalena took a deep breath and started to cry again.

“Yeah I really do..and it sucks because I feel like it’s all my fault and that there’s nothing I can do. He means so much to me and it’s killing me, I hate it”

“Awe, is this your hockey star boyfriend?” Caro grinned hoping to lighten the mood.

“Nope..” Magdalena murmured. Caro stopped smiling once she realized that Magdalena wasn’t just feeling homesick, something was actually wrong.

“Want to talk about it? It always helped me out to just let it all out you know?” Caro scooched over closer to Magdalena and crossed her legs on the couch so that she was facing Magdalena.

“Okay...So it’s always kind of been super complicated between this guy and I, and this past summer we stopped talking to each other. The guy is sorta from Boston too, and he had to move so we hadn’t spoken since he moved. After he left thats when I started seeing my ‘hockey star boyfriend’. But a few weeks back he was visiting and I saw him for the first time in months and he kissed me.”

“Oh jeez...What’d you do?” Caro said as she brought the ice cream tub closer to her face in anticipation, this story seemed interesting.

“I got into a cab and just cried. But that’s not even it...” Magdalena paused and tried to get a hold of herself. “That was the first time we had ever kissed.”

Caro gasped dramatically and set the ice cream down.

“Tell me more!” She clapped. Magdalena laughed.

“He’s called me twice at random times since then.” Magdalena smiled.

“Wow...what did he have to say?”

“He said he needed me. Which I don’t understand because the last time we ‘spoke’ he pretty much told me that he never felt the same way”

“Maybe he got some sense knocked into him” Caro smirked.

“I don’t get him.”

“I don’t get boys!” Caro laughed as she nudged Magdalena.

July 4th, 2013 (The Trade)

Tyler and his buddies pulled up in the driveway of the large home in Cape Cod after an hour long car ride. They had spent the majority of the day driving back and forth from Boston bringing things for their Fourth of July party. They also spent the other part of it filming tidbits of their day for Freddy’s music video for his song ‘Summer Nights’

“Going to be a wild night! I can fucking feel it!” Brandon said as he got out of his car and pulled out one of the many cases of beer that were in the back of his vehicle.

“Buddy I know!” Tyler said as he high fived Freddy. Tyler popped the trunk open and grabbed the cooler and walked it over to the house.

In the kitchen stood the rest of their friends on their cell phones texting, tweeting, instagramming, and facebooking. As soon as they stepped in Tyler was bombarded by his dog Marshall with licks all over his face.

“How we doing with the video so far?” Tyler said as he stood up.

“So far we just have the footage of you guys driving, that’s it,” Manda, one of Tyler’s friends and an amateur filmmaker and photographer. She would be recording someone the clips for Freddy’s video.

“How about we have a pre-party and record some stuff that way we can get me lip syncing the lyrics out of the way?” Freddy suggested.

“That actually isn’t a bad idea!” Manda laughed as she changed the lens of her camera. Freddy called everyone over and told them to drink and act as natural as possible for the video. As Freddy explain Tyler’s phone vibrated in his pocket. Tyler grabbed it and had received a text from his agent, John.

-Call Me ASAP. Important.

Tyler raised his eyebrows in shock and furrowed them immediately after. “Uh, I think I forgot something over in the city, I’m going to have to get it.” Tyler said sternly as he looked at Freddy for assurance. Freddy nodded and smiled slightly, he knew something was wrong. Tyler jingled the keys in his pocket nervously, he hoped to God that what he was going to hear during the phone call wouldn’t have to do with him packing his bags. Tyler slid slowly into his sleek blacked out Maserati and placed his head on the steering wheel. He was nervous. Tyler took in a deep breath and pressed the button to start his car. He pulled out of the driveway and began to cruise through the small Cape for a while as he let his thoughts run through his mind.

Please don’t get traded. Please don’t get traded. Fuck, What if I get released?

Tyler slowed down when he realized he had reached the beach. He put his car in neutral and stepped out to get some air. He looked at his cellphone, the text from his agent was still on his lockscreen, still unread. He was going to have to call his agent at some point. Was tonight a good time? Tyler slid his phone back into the pocket of his swim trunks and began to walk along the beach. The sun was still up in the sky, but it was going to be setting soon. Tyler had this horrible taste in his mouth and his gut felt empty, but filled with guilt and regret. He really screwed up this time. This time? No, his entire time with the Bruins was a screw up. Sleeping in, staying out late, tweeting inappropriate things, pretty much making the organization look bad with his shenanigans. Tyler shook his head to himself, how immature could he be? He had been warned, scratched, and punished for all his stupid behaviour, and at the time it may have felt like the worst case scenario, but now with all the rumours about him potentially getting traded, all those punishments and warnings were all just a slap on the wrist, a way for the Bruins to straighten him up.

“..Oh my God!!” Tyler’s head shot up and noticed a few girls approaching him.

“You’re Tyler Seguin!” One of the girls said and Tyler nodded, smiling with his mouth shut. Once he nodded they all screamed among themselves.

“Mind if we take a picture with you? We’re big fans!!” They said as they got close to him and pulled out their iPhones. Tyler was hesitant, but agreed.

“Mom, mom! It really is him! Come!!!” The girl with the short ombre hair called her mom over. “Here, take the picture!” Tyler stood in the middle of the girls and wrapped his arms around the two who were nearest to him. He could feel them shaking, which was always a little commending to him.

“Say Bruins!!” The mother said as she leaned back and tapped on the phone.

“Would you mind signing this too?”

“Uh, yeah sure! Do you have a marker, or pen?” Tyler said awkwardly. He needed to get out of there.

“Yepp!” The girl said as she handed Tyler the blue frisbee and a sharpie. “Could you make it to Nathalie! With an ‘H’” She giggled. Tyler looked at her and nodded as he signed the frisbee. Tyler could hear the other girls around them giggle as they snapped shots of him.

“Anything else?” Tyler asked as he handed the frisbee back. Suddenly the girls that were around him began to push their phones to his face and he signed them, one by one, all seven of them.

“Thanks SO MUCH!!”

“No problem.” Tyler smiled.

“What are you doing here anyway?” The one named Nathalie asked, she seemed to be the talker of the group.

“Just having a small get together for the Fourth”

“Oh cool! Have fun, Happy Fourth! and GO BRUINS!” She said as she got dragged away from her friends, who were still freaking out.

Go Bruins.

Tyler pushed his hat down further and continued on his little stroll. Twenty minutes had passed by since he had left.

“Hey! Segs! What are you doing out here? Shouldn’t you be at the house?” One of Tyler’s buddies approached him, with a dog on the leash.

“Hey, yeah just wanted to get some air, it got pretty stuffy in there” Tyler chuckled.

“We were actually wondering how to get there, we’re a little lost” One of them said as they all surrounded Tyler. Tyler gave them the directions to the house and they all gave eachother a bro hug and Tyler walked off and headed for his car. Alone, again. Tyler put the car in drive and began to head off into Boston. Tyler started to get distracted as his wonders of what his agent had to tell him began to cloud his mind. He pulled over on the side of the road and stepped out of the vehicle. He couldn’t wait any longer. He called his agent.

“Tyler.”

“Hey, John, I got your text,” Tyler sighed as he leaned against the hood of his car. Just the sound of his agents voice guaranteed that Tyler was about to hear some bad news.

“Pack your bags. You’re done with Boston.” John said on the other line. just like ripping off a band-aid he gave Tyler the news quickly, without beating around the bush. He didn’t sugar coat it on anything. Tyler’s head hung low as the cars to his left sped past him, he felt the breeze of the turbulence coming from the vehicles.

“Fuck..” Tyler breathed out as he ran his fingers through his hair. But one thing hadn’t been answered. Was Tyler released? Or had he been traded.

“Take a deep breath, because you’re lucky they didn’t just let you go. You’ve been traded, relax.Hate to say I told you so, but I told you to stop dicking around in Boston.” John said as Tyler remained silent on the other end. “The rumours were true. This is what happens when you pull the shit that you did.Be thankful that the Bruins at least let you play with them for more than one season, there are people out there who are still undrafted, or free agents right now, and you were lucky enough to get traded.”

“Wh-What team?” Tyler managed to say as he tried to hide every bit of emotion.

“Dallas.” Tyler shut his eyes in frustration and his shoulders dropped. “Don’t get your panties in a bunch Seguin. They’re pretty much reestablishing their whole organization. New coach, new GM, new jerseys, everything. Tyler, this is a great opportunity for you to cut the shit and scratch everything. A new beginning. Don’t beat yourself up over this, the Star’s wanted you, think of it that way.”

“Alright..” Tyler said softly as his voice cracked. He nodded his head, in a way to comfort himself.

“I’ll talk to you once I know more. Just wanted to let you in on what I know so far. But keep your head up! You’re a smart kid, and a great player. You can only go up from here” His agent assured.

“Thanks, ‘preciate it.” Tyler said as he scratched the bag of his neck and ended the call. Tyler stood next to his car for a brief moment and went back into his car. By instinct he began to go through his contacts to find ‘Magpie’ and was about to tap on the phone icon to call her when he stopped.

I hate you.

The last words that she had said to him since they had last spoken burned through him and prevented him from calling her. He had hit rock bottom, and needed her right now, at this moment, but his dumbass ruined everything between them. He couldn’t stop seeing the look in her eyes as she said those three words to him, it killed him.Tyler hit the palm of his hand on his forehead and wiped his face.

Fuck it.

Tyler said to himself as he tossed his phone onto the passenger’s seat and made a u-turn back to the Cape.

****************************

“Hey look, Tyler’s having a party!” Rachel said as she pointed at her laptop screen. Jen glared at her.

“How do you know?” Jen snapped.

“It’s on his facebook!”

“You still have that loser on facebook?” Jen gagged.

“I like to keep in touch” Rachel shrugged.

“What do you mean ‘keep in touch’”

“Chill...I haven’t spoken to him or anything, I was just trying to make conversation”

“Can it not be conversation about Tyler..”

“What wrong with that?”

“You know.”

“No, I don’t know, you guys didn’t tell me ANYTHING since I got back. I don’t even know what’s going on anymore..”

“Rachel, It doesn’t matter”

“Okay, then if it doesn’t matter then I think its fine for me to talk about Tyler.” Rachel said as she crossed her arms.

“Why are you so goddamn defensive of him! He’s a prick!!” Jen shook her head.

“I’m a lawyer...SUE ME!” Rachel laughed as she made a silly pun. “Well, trying to be”

“You’re so dumb!” Jen scoffed and laughed at the same time as she tossed some popcorn at Rachel.

“But seriously...what’s your deal with Tyler?”

Jen sighed. “He was an asshole to Maggie,” Jen paused and looked at Rachel who raised her eyebrows. Jen could tell that Rachel wanted to hear more. “He was rude to me, and super douchey. He always thought he was top shit and better than everyone. Like he’d show up somewhere and expect to have a bunch of people attack him or stare at him like he was some ‘god’ or something. And back to the whole Maggie thing, he fucked with her. He’d pretty much make her feel like she mattered to him, and then he’d go out and sleep with a bunch of chicks and then he’d go home and call Maggie and sweet talk her, like it was nothing. “ Rachel blinked fast at what she had just heard, she already knew everything that Jen had said, there was definitely more.

“But...what did he do to you? Guys are naturally just douchebags” Rachel defended, trying to get something out of Jen. Jen shut her mouth and held it shut for a while.

“He’d freak at Maggie and make her cry!”

“Yeah...Maggie, not you.”

“She’s our best friend!”

“Yeah, I know. But you seem to hate him more than Maggie does, why is that?” Rachel began to push Jen and put her on the spot. Her newly found lawyer tactics were beginning to pull through.

“Rachel, I don’t want to talk about it.” Jen said as she got up and went to her room, ending the discussion abruptly. Rachel sighed as she increase the volume of the tv.

Everything about Tyler’s life at this point was inscrutable, hard to interpret or comprehend. He felt like he had no direction, despite his now rising hockey career. He lay on his bed, sprawled out, on the American Thanksgiving day. Alone. He planned on going over to the Benn’s household and eating dinner there, since he had already spent the Canadian Thanksgiving up in Toronto with his family.

-Happy Thanksgiving

Tyler sent a text to the first person who shot in his mind. Magdalena. He didn’t even hesitate to send it, he wanted her to notice his existence, he didn’t care if he was annoying her.

-Thanks, you too.

She texted back almost instantly which caused Tyler’s heart to skip a beat and the butterflies in his stomach to get set free and float around.

-Wish I could spend it with you

Tyler sent hoping to get a response that was similar. The fact that Magdalena was with Dougie didn’t phase him at all, infact he had hoped that Dougie was reminded of who had Magdalenas heart in first place when they were having dinner a couple weeks ago.

-lol yeah.

She responded blandly. Again with the uncertainties.

-can i call you?

Tyler was lonely and wanted to hear her voice against his ear.

-not now. i’ll call you later.

Magdalena sent back and bit her lip in fear. She was in her family home in Boston and sat in her bedroom, and was nostalgic as she reminisced. She put her phone on do not disturb and set it on her nightstand table.

Tyler tossed his phone on his bed and sighed sadly. It felt like when they first met, her walls were up taunting him. He stood up and went into his bathroom to shower away the shitty mood he was in.

Notes

Chapter Four :). Finally! We find out what happened between Magdalena and Tyler. So the votes so far on how I should post whatever past Tyler and Magdalena have are favoring the idea of me putting them in as a memory. I'll put one up today as a memory just to see what its like. I really hope everyone likes this chapter. Thanks for subscribing/reading/commenting. I very much appreciate the feedback.
