Russian Mystique (On Hold)

Nikita’s Secret

It was a few months before Nikita Zadorov’s birth. Sergei and Xenia were messing around in their gothic-style bedroom.

Compared to the warmth and the bright red walls and the new modern furniture outside in the main room, this room was a cold disappointment. No colour except a stormy grey with the occasional historic red brick was to be seen on the walls. The area was filled with tons of gothic furniture, including the bed - still looking brand new. The furniture graced the bedroom in a ghostly silence and the chairs arranged in a circle as if awaiting a group of guests now long forgotten. Stood up against walls and chairs were the portraits with sombre expressions. Boredom and self-importance etched in their long, serious faces: the Zadorov family line.

Outside it was a cold, clear and eerie night- the moon shining as various animals, including a dog barked and made noises in the distance. The atmosphere was much the same in the damp palace. The trees outside moaned at being disturbed by the firm, gentle breeze which carried on coercing them, getting stronger making the trees moan louder and their old bones start creaking. The moonlight partially obscured by the moving silhouettes filtered through the window.

The only source of light in the room came from a medium sized pentagonal window - the moonlight illuminating the peaceful specs of dust happily swimming in the vast cold, dark and silent sea, illuminating a small part of the eerie basement. Shadows danced and slid across the walls as the wind persisted to pester the trees which continued to sway.

When they had finished making out in the classic Moscow-Russian-Gothic bed, an old man, who looked like a current, older image of Pavel Datsyuk, poofed into the room via a smoke cloud. He stood at the foot of the bed with a long scepter and had black robes on. He looked like a wizard...or like a male-Maleficent. The couple was slightly startled at the sudden appearance of the man.

“Sergei Zadorov,” Pavel Datsyuk spoke, his voice booming around the room as though it was amplified by a speaker. “You have dishonored the Zadorov name. That child that you will give birth to will posses the power of telepathy and telekinesis.”

“What do you mean?” Xenia gasped.

“The child is special. He will have telepathy and telekinesis and he will get into trouble.”

“You lie!” Sergei spat. He pushed himself into a sitting position, leaning toward his wife.

“If I lie, go ahead and test it, but your fates, as well as his are sealed.” Pavel waves his staff around in the air before him. “The child will possess these powers and there is nothing you can do about it.”

“And who are you to tell us this?” Xenia snapped, sitting up as well now and eyeing the stranger.

“I’m a Datsyuk. We do not lie.” Pavel grinned.

“Get out of here. Our child will be fine and normal!” Sergei snarled. “You have no right being here!”

“You’ll see I am right and when I am, you’ll thank me.” Pavel turned and waved his scepter in a circle around him. He vanished into the air in a poof of smoke, like how he’d arrived to the room.

Sergei and Xenia remained frozen still for a little bit. Then Sergei laughed. “Thank you? Yeah right. We’ll never see him again and our child will be perfect. Superpowers? Ha! Those aren’t real!”

“I’ve been thinking of names...I like, Nikita. It’s bisexual, for both a girl and a boy and it means, ‘people’s victory’ or ‘unconquered’ and that is what our son will be.”

“Nikita? Nikita Zadorov?”

“Nikita Zadorov. It’s perfect, just like our baby son will be.”

“I like it, Xenia.”

Nikita looked at Mackenzie, who was anxiously waiting for the truth of Nikita’s grand secret. The young prince took a deep breath and then he said, “I never know why I was always the center of attention, why strangers kept attempting to kidnap me...and I just learned the truth not to long ago from my father. I never knew what it was until it accidentally came up. It was after Val got hurt and Pavel was hanging out with me.”

“Pavel?” Mackenzie questioned, raising an eyebrow at the unfamiliar name.

“Pavel Datsyuk, he’s a friend. He technically saved me...and Val too.”

There was a moment of silence.

“And why do people wish to kidnap you?”

“Because...according to my dad, I’ve got telepathy...and telekinesis.” Nikita looked down at his feet. “I was born with the powers and I was meant to be special. I don’t want to be though.”

Mackenzie felt sympathy for the young man. The poor guy didn’t ask to be born with superpowers like this. But how did he have telepathy AND telekinesis? He’d never used either of them...or had he? She suddenly thought about the first self-defense lesson. Had he really used either on her without knowing it?

“Have you used the telepathy yet? Or the telekinesis?”

“No. I don’t know how. And I’m too scared to.” Nikita bit his lip, looking up at her with a worried look. “And if I do, wouldn’t that make things worse for me? Wouldn’t people come after me anyway?”

“No, not with me around...and besides, you’re ready to battle a kidnapper now. You could test them out now. Try them both on me.” Mackenzie dipped her head and got to her feet.

“Are you sure?” Nikita questioned, looking around the training grounds.

“I’m positive. If you’ve got powers, the best thing to do, is to use them and accept them. Let’s see how strong they are.”

Nikita got to his feet now. He sighed and walked away from Mackenzie a little bit, to give her some room and some distance between them both. He looked around again, making certain that there were no bad guys or any people around.

“You’ll be fine. If anyone attacks, we’ll fend them off together. You’re perfectly safe now Niki!” Mackenzie called out.

Nikita nodded. He raised his hands up and closed his eyes. He took a deep breath and then opened his eyes. They glowed a brilliant sapphire, crystal blue. He focused on one of his gloves on the ground beside Mackenzie and lifted it off the ground. No strings or tricks attached.

Mackenzie gasped. She took a step back.

Suddenly the glove fell back to the ground and Nikita’s eyes flashed back to the amber brown. He faced Mackenzie and without moving his lips said, How’s that?

How are you--whoa!

I’m using my telepathy communication. The glove thing was the telekinesis.

I know what both telepathy and telekinesis are.

Maybe you wanna kiss me?

No. Nikita. Nikita Zadorov don’t you dare.

Kiss me, Mackenzie. You know you want to.

No.

Kiss me.

Mackenzie walked forward and grabbed Nikita’s face with her hands. She pressed her lips to the young prince’s. “You’re terrible.”

“I know.”

They remained kissing and Nikita let his hands fall to his sides and he was able to telekinetically lift up a bunch of objects: the gloves, helmets, food, any small items that were around. They swept around the two of them in a circle, including dirty and grass. It was in a way, magical. Mackenzie was in shock and that he had such powers.

In a bush to the back of the property, Pavel Datsyuk was hiding, spying on Nikita. He was interested in the development of the young prince. He’d changed quite a lot. He’d been walking by and heard the noise and decided to watch the two fight. The training grounds were encompassed partially by a fence. In the middle of the fence was a gateway. And right to the side of that were a bunch of bushes grouped together on either side.

Then he heard Mackenzie and Nikita talking about some secret. Curious, he remained in his hiding place. He peered out and saw the glove lift off the ground. He smirked, as he saw it...and he was jealous. But he was secretly the older dark wizard, who’d appeared to the Zadorov couple to tell them about their son. He’d gone undercover and befriended the family, to get close to Nikita and keep an eye on him. He’d also been the one behind all the attempted kidnappings. Now that he’d been born and that he had showed off his powers, it was time for Pavel to return to his real age and form.

As he watched the show, Pavel snickered sinisterly to himself. “It’s time. It’s time to move on with the plan and get those powers for myself! I will rule the world and it’ll be thanks to Nikita Zadorov!”
