The Ice Prince and The Snow Queen

Jonathan’s Date With Patrick...And With Kala

"Shit! I gotta meet up with Jonny!"

Patrick wasn’t usually one to swear, but the reminder had him swearing like a sailor and grabbing one of the scarves on his bed in a hurry. He needed to get going, or he'd be late to what might be one of the most important events of his life.

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t that big of an event from an outside perspective, but to Patrick, tonight was huge. Tonight, he, Patrick Kane, would be going on his first date (at least, one that counted) with an amazing and simply gorgeous guy that just so happened to be his best friend. This was something he couldn't be late for. If he was, he’d lose the best moment of his life.

He rushed down the stairs, shoving his wallet and cell phone in his back pocket, checking his reflection in the window as he ran towards the door. The door slammed behind him, and Patrick unlocked his car with sweaty palms. God, he was so nervous.

Jonathan Toews lived approximately twenty minutes away from the United Center and his place and the revival theatre (where they are going) was another thirty minutes from Jonathan's house, so it wasn’t like Patrick was running late. The show started at 6:30, and he'd get to Jonathan's at five, giving them a little over an hour to have dinner. He'd actually make great time, which meant…

Patrick hung a left, following the road to a cute little florist that had been there long before Patrick was born. He distinctly remembered seeing the story of it when he was visiting the city of Chicago at six years old. His dad brought him to another shop similar to this one in Buffalo long ago to buy a bouquet of flowers on their anniversary. Apparently, Patrick's mom had worked there when she was a teenager and into her college years, which gave the little shop all the more sentiment.

He parked his car right outside the florist, and hurried inside. A breeze of cool air hit him, and he took a nice whiff of the shop. No surprise, the store smelled of the pleasant scent of assorted flowers. He quickly selected his flowers and made it back to the car.

In no time, he reached the familiar, extravagant neighborhood that his boyfriend lived in. Patrick pulled into the empty driveway, and took a deep breath, as he made his way up to the door and knocked hesitantly.

He was nervous beyond words. Not even sure why, because honestly, it was Jonathan, and he'd never been uncomfortable being himself around the him. They always just clicked and they had been best friends for a while now, but Patrick was still anxious this time around. This time was different.

The door swung open, revealing an equally nervous looking Jonathan who had a small smile on his face. He looked so good and yet so adorable in his outfit, and oh God, was that…?

"Is that a bowtie?" Patrick blurted out before he could stop himself.

It fortunately broke the ice. Jonathan's face broke out into a grin, and he nodded excitedly. "I kind of have a thing for them," he said sheepishly.

"It's adorable," Patrick declared, and Jonathan's grin widened further. There was a small, rather awkward pause, and Patrick revealed the flowers from behind his back. "I, uh, got these for you. They're daisies, cause you know—uh…" Patrick said quickly, trying for a small smile.

Jonathan cut him off with a laugh, his eyes sparkling. "Patrick, they're beautiful like you." He took the flowers with one hand, the other staying behind his back. "Ironically, I got you flowers too."

From behind his back, he produced a beautiful and fairly large bouquet of red and yellow flowers. Patrick gasped. "God, Jonathan, this must've cost a fortune… they're absolutely gorgeous."

Jonathan shrugged modestly, smiling shyly. "It's worth it," he reassured.

They met eyes, and for what seemed like an eternity, Patrick stared into two beautiful orbs of chocolate. Jonathan was absolutely stunning, and wow, Patrick found himself pretty damn lucky to call him his.

It was Jonathan that finally broke the stare. He cleared his throat, stepping away from the door. "You want to, ah, put these into a vase until you drop me back off?" he suggested.

Patrick nodded. "Sure, that works."

Jonathan took his hand, pulling him inside the massive house (or is it a mansion?) towards the kitchen. After they quickly placed the two bouquets into separate vases, they headed back outside to Patrick's car.

Jonathan opened Patrick's car door, sending him a sweet grin, and Patrick had to fight back his laugh. "I think we're doing this a bit backwards," he noted as Jonathan climbed into the passenger seat. "Just a little untraditional, you know?"

His boyfriend—holy crap, his boyfriend—chuckled. "Patrick, I think the last thing we are is traditional."

The ice was totally shattered by now, because Patrick burst out into laughter, Jonathan quickly following, and they spent several moments in the car just laughing so hard Patrick was sure he was going to cry.

When they finally composed themselves, Patrick started up the car, and with Jonathan's help, he drove towards a restaurant that Jonathan suggested. A few minutes into the drive, Jonathan took the hand that Patrick wasn't driving with his own, intertwining their fingers.

Jonathan didn't say anything, and neither did Patrick. It was quiet, save for the soft lyrics of a love ballad playing in the background, and the sun was beginning to set in the horizon. It was simple, but it was enough.

And glancing over at the beautiful man in his passenger seat, Patrick decided that he had to be the luckiest guy on the planet.

He was never going to lose Jonathan Toews.

And yet…

...he had no idea, the man was double crossing him with Kala.

The next night,

Jonathan Toews walked up to the door. He was dressed to the nines in a white suit coat with contrasting black tie and pants. With nervous hands, he pushed the button on the sensor that served doorbell. The few seconds it took for the door to whoosh open was just enough time for Jonathan to calm his breathing and steady his hands. The automatic Ancient doors opened and there she stood a huge smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye.

Kala Mari wore a beautiful dark-purple dress that fell just past her knees. The satiny loose material accented her curvy figure perfectly and had just enough flair to make twirling a necessity.

"Um…hi." Jonathan broke out into a grin.

"Hello handsome." Kala winked and then twirled, the gown flowing around her.

"Don't you look lovely tonight?" He said, causing Kala to blush all the way to her ears. He took a step forward, pulled her close in a warm embrace.

Breaking the hug, she playfully nudged her date. "Really, Jonathan, where are we going?"

"You'll see, love." The hockey player’s brown eyes danced. They began walking away from her room, down the hallway toward the double doors that would take them close to their final destination, the outside. Kala heaved a sigh and then giggled as Jonathan offered his arm as a gentleman should.

One second and they were standing at the edge of a small, private beach, just a short walk from Jonathan's big surprise. The sea-air of the perfect late summer night touched their faces as their walk took them outside to the long pier on the southern part of the city. The dark sky was filled with thousands of stars, twinkling like diamonds in patterns and numbers that could never be seen on Earth. The couple lost themselves in the moment, just walking with each other under the glorious night sky.

As they neared the end of the pier, Kala gasped in surprise. Jonathan had set up a table, complete with candles and a single red rose in a crystal vase. The doctor had bribed the kitchen staff to prepare a special meal for them and the staff did not disappoint, the food was delicious.

After an hour of eating and talking and laughing together, Jonathan pulled a small remote control from his pocket. With the touch of a button, music began to play through nearby speakers. The slow cadence of classical music was perfect for dancing slow. The doctor stood and walked over to her. He reached for her hand and placed a gentle kiss on it, his soft lips brushing her fair skin. She smiled and blushed a little bit, love lighting up in her eyes.

"Will ye honor me with a dance, sweet lass?"

Jonathan Toews, a French-Canadian trying to mimic a pirate was the most hilarious thing in the world. Kala couldn’t say no to him.

"Of course, my dear sir." Kala said coyly and allowed him to help her up. Hand in hand, the couple glided over to an open area near the edge of the pier. Jonathan placed his hand on her waist, and she reached up for his shoulder.

And with that, they lost themselves in the movement of the dance, everything disappeared from their minds. The golden and white lights of Atlantis herself created the backdrop of the dance floor. Time went by, and eventually they slowed to a stop, their gazes still locked.

"Kala, you are the best thing that has happened to me." Jonathan said, the truth of it showing in his brilliant blue eyes. "I love you."

Without letting her get a word in, Jonathan leaned down and pulled her into a loving and passionate kiss. They stood on the pier, oblivious to everything else; their only witnesses were thousands of stars sparkling like glittery diamonds in the endless darkness of space.

Eventually they started along the beach, holding their shoes in their hands and walked side by side with the ocean waves pounding against the shore, creating a rhythmic beating. The water lapped close to their feet but didn't hit them.

"Isn't the sunset beautiful?" Kala asked, starry-eyed.

"Yes, it is," Jonathan replied but instead of looking at the sunset, he was looking at something much more beautiful. Her.

Kala sensed his gaze and returned it, her eyes reflecting the sinking sun. They stopped walking and turned to face each other, parallel to the ocean shore. She felt his hand brush a stray strand of hair behind her ear. He wrapped his arms around her, drawing her close. She rested her head against his chest and held his body as close as her arms would let her.

"I love you so much, Kala," he whispered into her hair, inhaling her sweet smell.

"I love you so much, Jonny," she breathed, as a single tear rolled down her cheek..

"Please don't cry," he wiped away her tear with his thumb. “What’s wrong?”

"Im sorry, it's just so perfect. But I know you’re with Patrick...I can’t come between you two, it’d be wrong."

“It’s not. He doesn’t have to know. I can have you both.”

Deep down, Kala knew this was wrong...but her heart told her it was right. She wanted Jonathan Toews as her own. No matter what.

They just stood there for quite sometime while the sky turned beautiful shades of oranges and reds that swirled around the sky. It was for them, only them. It was perfect.

Notes

Uh...don't double date. Not smart.
